Politics / Re: Jonathan Sent Anyaoku To Beg Buhari Not To Probe The $20 Billion Missing by betty202020(m): 9:21am On Jul 16, 2015
Elbubs:
A panic-stricken former President Goodluck Jonathan has sent former Commonwealth Secretary General, Emeka Anyaoku, to plead with President Muhammadu Buhari not to launch an official probe of his administration.

Emeka Anyaoku and former President Goodluck Jonathan
Several sources in Abuja, including aides of President Buhari, briefed SaharaReporters exclusively about former President Jonathan’s dispatch of Mr. Anyaoku as an emissary to his successor.

One of our sources said Mr. Jonathan moved quickly to send powerful intercessors to the Presidency after the Buhari administration began to question massive last-minute withdrawals and disappearance of more than $20 billion in government funds orchestrated by former President Jonathan as well as his closest ministers and aides.

One source familiar with Mr. Anyaoku’s desperate mission to President Buhari revealed that the former Commonwealth chief executive urged the new president to remember that Mr. Jonathan voluntarily decided not to contest the results of the March 28, 2015 presidential election, won by Mr. Buhari, on the understanding that he and his administration would not be subjected to a probe.

Our sources disclosed that Mr. Anyaoku spent a little more than two hours in a close-door meeting yesterday where he sought to prevail on President Buhari to halt the ongoing probe of what happened to billions of public funds during the last few months of the Jonathan government.

Before imploring Mr. Anyaoku to plead with President Buhari, Mr. Jonathan had also asked former military head of state, Abdulsalam Abubakar, to speak to the current president and suggest a suspension of all ongoing probes. Mr. Buhari has put in place several investigative committees to probe the illicit withdrawal and disbursement of public funds by the Jonathan administration. The presidential committees are charged with advising the administration on strategies for retrieving any public assets stolen by officials and cohorts of the Jonathan Presidency.

One of the committees has already discovered that Mr. Jonathan and some members of his cabinet apparently colluded in the dying days of the previous government to loot billions of dollars. The funds were looted via the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Ministry of Finance, the Nigerian Maritime Authority, the Federal Capital Territory, and several other departments. A source within the investigative committee revealed that Mr. Jonathan and his closest aides and political appointees made illegal withdrawals of funds to finance his failed bid for re-election.

Former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has stated that former President Jonathan asked her to withdraw more than $1.2 billion from the excess crude account. Even though Mrs. Okonji-Iweala continues to maintain publicly that she did nothing wrong during her tenure, a source told SaharaReporters that the former minister, who coordinated economic affairs during the former president’s tenure, has been quietly cooperative with the Buhari administration. According to the source, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala has offered what amounts to a dossier of corrupt deals authorized by the former president.

In an attempt to curry favor with the new government, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala recently directed officials of her polling agency, NOI Polls, to give President Buhari a 70% approval rating among Nigerians. “The polling results were simply cooked up,” a professional pollster told SaharaReporters. Prior to the 2015 general elections, the former minister’s fake polling organization kept repeating that Mr. Jonathan approval rating was up even as his political fortune plummeted.

SaharaReporters also learned that former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, is also actively cooperating with the Buhari administration. As earlier revealed by us, Mrs. Alison-Madueke had struck a deal with the new government to submit a document to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) exposing her collaborators at the NNPC. The former Petroleum minister, who was one of the closest cabinet members to Mr. Jonathan—and the mastermind of numerous money laundering deals on behalf of the former president—currently shuttles between the UK and Switzerland. A source close to Mrs. Alison-Madueke said the former minister was receiving treatment in the UK related to breast cancer.

After emerging from his marathon meeting with Mr. Buhari yesterday, Mr. Anyaoku claimed that he had visited to offer “advice” to the president regarding his forthcoming official trip to the US. Mr. Buhari is scheduled to start his US trip on Sunday.

A source at the Presidency told SaharaReporters that Mr. Anyaoku had misrepresented the purpose of his visit. “The elder statesman [Anyaoku] did not come to advise Mr. President about the trip to the US. The plans for the trip were already concluded a while ago, with all logistics and programming support,” the source added.

Former President Jonathan is currently in Abuja where he remains in constant touch with Abdulsalam Abubakar and other political players to prevail on President Buhari to halt the probe of his administration.

One source at the Presidency revealed that Mr. Buhari was not receptive to Mr. Anyaoku’s pleas. According to the source, the president told the former Commonwealth chief executive that the massive theft of funds by officials of the previous administration had robbed him of funds to start meeting his promises to the Nigerian people. “The president’s concern is for everybody who stole funds, including the former president, to disclose their willingness to return their loot to the Nigerian people,” the source added.

Politics / Re: “yes, Babangida Killed Dele Giwa” – Major Debo Basorun, Rtd by betty202020(m): 2:38am On Jul 16, 2015
folks4luv:
Twenty-seven years after the brutal murder by a
parcel bomb of the journalist Dele Giwa, the fog
surrounding those behind his death has been
substantially cleared by 70-year-old Major Debo
Basorun (retd.), former Chief Press Secretary to
ex-military President Ibrahim Babangida. In an
interview published this morning in National
Mirror, Basorun was asked: “Are you saying
categorically that it was Babangida who ordered
the killing of Dele Giwa?” His answer: “Yes, yes
and yes.”
The septuagenarian had yesterday broken down in
tears as he recalled Giwa’s dastardly murder
during the launch in Lagos of his book, ‘Honour
for Sale: An Inside Account of the Murder of Dele
Giwa’.
In the explosive interview, Basorun also accused
his erstwhile boss of bringing corruption to the
highest level in the country and of committing a
lot of atrocities. Please read on:
Question: What informed your decision to write a
book about some salient events in the nation’s
history?
Immediately I left this country for exile in United
States of America in 1989, I gathered all the
materials for the book. I started making jottings
on long hand. By 1994 the book was ready and
the transcript was given to Prof. Wole Soyinka
during the NADECO struggles. But for one reason
or the other, I could not put it through
Why did you go on exile?
I had to run when my life was in danger. I was
then the Chief Press Secretary to General Ibrahim
Babangida, the former Head of State. Since I
know some facts surrounding the death of Dele
Giwa, the government was uncomfortable with
me, therefore they were looking for how to
eliminate me.
Babangida’s government was involved in the
planning and assassination of Dele Giwa. And
because I was privy to that information, the
government was unhappy, unsettled; it was jittery
and wanted to get rid of me. It suspected that I
could say the truth. When I saw the handwriting
on the wall and between life and death, I ran for
my life. I had to escape from the country after I
took them to court. I was the only principal
officer serving that will take the government to
court.
Despite several injunctions, at the Lagos High
Court, the military government then just refused
to come to the court to present their side of the
story. The court said they should leave me alone,
but they were hunting for me everywhere and
since my life was no longer safe, I had to leave.
What are the salient facts that you have in your
custody that made you think the government was
looking for you?
These facts are hidden in the book and if you get
a copy, you will see the intrigue that was woven
round the killing of Dele Giwa. You will see the
role certain characters played in the murder. I
was even induced with money, but I refused, that
was the time I had to run away. Now I believe it
is better to state the fact the way it was no
matter whose ox is gored. It is better to run
away than to collect money from the devil.
Are you saying categorically that it was
Babangida who ordered the killing of Dele Giwa?
Yes, yes and yes.
What about the involvement of Cols. Haliru Akilu
and A. K. Togun?
Yes, these guys were in the military intelligence.
They were all involved. If there is any dirty job to
be done, the military intelligence would do it. I am
a dramatic personae in that unit, therefore there
is nothing they are doing that I would not know.
The bitter truth is that Dele Giwa was killed by
the Babangida regime. The whole thing was
surrounded by mystery of our government. It is
unfortunate that nobody has been brought to
book.
Are you not afraid of your life now that all those
you implicated in your book are still alive?
That was then that I used to fear, I am old
enough to die now. That is the reason why I
wrote this book, ‘Honour for Sale’. If eventually it
leads to my death, I have no regrets. Why did
they tag you a rebel while in the army, especially
on the issue of a strong memo you wrote to your
superior officer. What happened then?
That was when I was in the army. The issue that
forced me out into exile was that Babangida was
the President. There were two different scenarios
here. One of the things that endeared Babangida
to so many troops was his sense of fairness and
sense of accommodating, no matter where you
come from. After I became his spokesperson in
the army, I realised that most of our gadgets in
the army had inscriptions written on them in
Arabic.
Despite the fact that I was a Muslim, I found it
offensive that English was our lingua franca and
that those things ought to have been written in
English. I raised a memo and sent to him. He did
not want to act on it, when Akilu, who was the
Director of Military Intelligence got wind of it, he
was bitter with me. He called me all sorts of
names and came to accuse me for initiating such
a memo.
Was there any sinister move from Akilu over what
you did?
He was just harassing me, but Babangida
shielded me, and told me that I should lie low.
There was a time he told me that I should not
mind him. I was doing a good job and the image
of the army, which had been battered, was being
restored gradually.
Don’t you think that the society will blame you for
concealing such information you are divulging
now for many years?
No; they will not, against the backdrop of what
went wrong then. I knew why I went to court and
refused to be posted to where they can kill me.
There was a precedent, they have killed people in
that unit before and nothing happened, therefore I
didn’t want to be killed. If I did not have my
facts, I will not go to court. That was why they
muzzled everybody including the court. They were
very powerful and there was nothing they could
not do.
Was that the reason why all the cases of glaring
assassinations the country have been witnessing
after the killing of Dele Giwa cannot be traced?
It is only now that the police investigate cases of
assassination and other organised crimes. Those
days, the police cannot investigate anything. In
fact, during the time of Babangida, the police was
just a toothless bull dog. They were just there at
the beck and call of the powers that be, then and
there was nothing the rank and file could do.
Is it true that the IBB you know can do anything
to bribe his way out of any situation?
I can tell you authoritatively that Babangida was a
corrupt man. He was very corrupt. Several times,
I had collected bribe for him. I am not claiming to
be a saint, because I was a part of that
government.
It is ‘obey the last order’ in the military. I know
bribery is not good, but it was a military
assignment that you must carry out; it is a duty
that you must do. If the society wants to blame
me for that, I will take up the blame. IBB
introduced a new dimension to corruption in
Nigeria on a large scale.
Recently the same IBB came out to condemn
corruption in the country, how do you react to
that?
It is very unfortunate that he, who took
corruption to the highest level, could do so. Every
Head of State in this country, apart from Muritala
Mohammed and Muhammadu Buhari, were all
corrupt.
The idea behind the book is just to call on
Nigerians that they should not allow impunity to
continue, enough is enough. After Dele Giwa, a lot
of people, including journalists have been killed by
the powers that be, yet nobody has unravelled the
killings. What that is telling us is that the media
is not doing enough to come out with such
investigative stories, one day nobody knows who
could come next as their target.
That is the challenge I pose to them now; let
them come and kill me. I no longer fear for my
life. I am old enough to die now if that is the
sacrifice to pay for telling the truth and exposing
all the hidden facts in our past brutal political
history. I don’t want to go to my grave with this
heavy load on my chest, today I have children and
grandchildren, so if death comes now, I have left
a legacy for the next generation to ponder on.
They offered me money to keep quiet, but I
refused, knowing full well that a day like this will
come.
In 2010, Babangida wanted to use the Chief of
Army Staff as they came up with spurious charge
that cannot withstand the test of time against me
that I stole money in the army. I took them to
court, but they could not defend it.
After that all other Chiefs of Army Staff who had
sat on that chair realised that the issue was a
political one and decided not to dabble into it.
They did not want to dabble into it for the fear
that a day like this may come where all the
hidden facts will be in the open. They did all that
could be done to rubbish my image and harass
me publicly but it all failed.
Was there any specific attempt on your life in the
course of this crisis?
When I was in exile, Babangida wanted to
eliminate me, but all his attempts failed. He used
the Nigerian Embassy in America to prosecute all
these atrocities, he even got in touch with some
corrupt US agencies to do the shady deal for him,
but all failed. I was forced to go to court there
before I was vindicated. Babangida was afraid of
this day, when all his misdeeds of the past would
be laid bare in the open to the public through my
book.
As an insider, do you believe that there were few
cabals that were controlling the destiny of this
country?
Yes, Babangida is one of them. Let me tell you
the bitter truth: all those who have been
controlling the political power of this country are
few cliques who are re-cycling themselves, either
military or civilian. Most of them are in
government by proxy; all their agents are in
government.
Let me give you an example, there are some
people, who were with me in Dodan Barracks and
who are still in the present government. For us to
move forward, let all the old brigade hands off,
including myself. Let the young people take over
the reins of power and run it. With all these dead
woods around, former this and former that, we
are not going to get anywhere.
Would you say we need revolution to make things
right?
Revolution is the last resort. Yes things are not
going as it ought to go, but Nigerians can endure
a lot, however there is limit to human endurance.
When Nigerians are pressed to the wall, revolution
will come naturally. The handwriting is clearly on
the wall.

this is about the best comment I have read in support of this argument. You may have a genuine complaints about marginalization, and trust me there are so many nigerians who also believe you have been unduly marginalized politically, but the solution to a headache is not the cutting of the affected head. There are so many better ways you could have gone about it, not always threatening the north as if it is solely responsible for the inbalance ,afterall north has only ruled for 2years in the last 16 years while you have had the opportunity to produce the highest number of chairmen of national assembly(senate president) within the period. What happened to the igbo agenda then.
no, the imbalance was created by northern military. remember northern military ruled up to 28 or 30 years at a stretch. and state creation was done by them. instead of adding a state to east, so part of east was carved out to southern states to weaken the political strength of east. know it that before abacha created Bayelsa starte, the need to create a new state has been made known. OK can you tell me the agitation of book hara that federal government is calling to come and negotiate. Nigeria government does not value peaceful negotiation. if u can call terrorist for peaceful negotiation, then why not call for same legitimate negotiation for igbos?

that man did absolutely the right thing. the president has no such powers to unilaterally release such amount. it must go through national Assembly. again, does it mean federal government did not pay states federal allocation due to the states? what did the fg do to stop further occurrences? and what stops the fg from investigating the income and expenditure of each state to ascertain how the state federal income is spent?

The first time i saw two men kissing was in London, specifically at the St James's Park on a cool summer day many years ago. I still remember the shock and revulsion i felt.

I stood transfixed, staring at them for about 5 Minutes and was just turning my head around like AM I THE ONLY ONE SEEING this, and then it hit me, i was no longer in Africa and even if i had been living in the US, i was yet to see two men kiss. It was a cultural shock for me to see two men make out.

I hated gays.

Then one day in Church, at a bible study. Somebody asked the pastor that if the Church preaches a lot of things about repentance and acceptance, why then do they still find it hard to accept gays?the pastor's reply was an eye opener.

And then it hit me. Why do i exactly hate gays?they don't bother me, they sleep with each other, they marry each other, they pay their own bills,i don't even know them.

As i grow older, i have learned to be very tolerant of others. I have also learned to mind my business with how others handle their lives, that is why i do not judge married women/men when they cheat in their marriages, i am not in their marriage so don't know what lead to the infidelity.

While i do have my personal reservation about the gay thing, i have come to accept the fact that my feelings will not stop people from being gays, or stop them from loving each other. i have also come to accept the fact that no matter what, there will be others that will have sexual orientation that is different from mine.

In Nigeria, there have been instances where men have been caught making love to goats and chickens. Nairaland even carried some of those pictures.

So what am i saying?people should let other people live their lives the way they deem it fit. what you cannot correct, leave alone.

you have nothing to contribute. that men made love to animals is not enough reason to legalise gay. bestiality started from bible time and God did not pardon Sodom and Gomorrah who practiced gay and destroyed it by fire. now if bible preach against it, is quo ran that adheres to it?

Nothing can be funnier than waking up to read a news that gave a distinctive pass mark to a government that is yet to put anything on ground. First it was Lai Muhammed that came on air to tell whoever cared to listen that Buhari's achievement in TWO weeks has eclipsed that of his predecessor. Today, came NOI poll giving Buhari 70% pass mark.

According to the report, "Respondents mentioned reasons for approving the President’s performance after 30 days in office, stating that security has improved (20 per cent), he has good intentions and he is good so far (16 per cent), and stability of electricity (15 percent) among other". I don't know whether to laugh but I think we should analyse this together.

1. Security Has Improved(20%):
Which country's security improved? Between the period in question (May 29-June 30), Boko Haram strucked Nigeria's North East 17 times, killing OVER 500 Nigerians in the process with thousands displaced. No single bomb has been thrown at BH terrorists by Nigeria forces since Buhari came onboard. Buhari inherited a motivated military that had so much success against Boko Haram terrorists between February and May 28 this year. In fact, the failure of Buhari against BH insurgency was corroborated by CNN in their July 14 publication. According to CNN

"Earlier this year, the Nigerian military launched a major offensive and recaptured much of the territory it had lost to Boko Haram. But in the last six weeks, over 500 people have been killed in attacks across the northeast of the country."

Which security did they say Buhari improved? We are all aware that the Army under Muhammadu Buhari is yet to kill any Boko terrorist. Is it the security of the terrorists? I will not be surprise if another poll score the President 80% in improved security for July 2015 despite repeated Boko haram attack.

2. "Good Intentions and He is Good So Far"(16 per cent):
How did they measure the intention of the President? I have flipped through the needs of Nigerians and the promises of APC, I couldn't find "Good Intention" as part of our needs. I am equally much confused on "He's Good So Far". Good in what sense? I think these people were out to insult us. This is ridiculous.

3. Stability of Electricity(15%):
Like I said in one of my article "though some areas have seen improved power, many other areas are experiencing difficult times when it comes to power." Some areas have experienced downward fortune with respect to electricity since May 29. I beg to ask "How many megawatt of electricity has the Buhari administration added since May 29?" It is even pathetic that No new policy on electricity has been initiated nor implemented by the buhari administration. So what are we saying?

It will be safe to conclude that the respondents of that poll(if any was even conducted) were members of Buhari family, APC Chieftains and staffs of Aso rock. The poll is an insult to Nigerians especially to the victims of Boko haram terrorism. It doesn't matter whether the "poll" was conducted by NOI poll or Aisha's poll, it is nothing but a sham and a mere wish of the organisers and the Buhari administration.

May God Bless Us All
chai na so Nigeria take die finish? if within 45 days naira has deprecated to the tone of $1 =245 as against $1=195 when buhari took over and he is proud to spew this trash, then it will be recommended Garuba go for brain tumor checkup. not to talk of bakoharam mass killings in jos, kano, Kaduna yobe and Maiduguri. maybe he is counting on gay marriage he is going to import from USA in few days time. if he bring back gay, God who destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah will destroy him before the arrival of gay bill to NASS. Amen.

Crime / Re: Woman: I Poisoned My Husband Because I Hated Him [PHOTO] by betty202020(m): 10:15am On Jul 15, 2015

Seventeen-year-old Beninoise woman, Abiodun Ojo, who killed her husband, Jimoh, in the Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos State, has said she poisoned her husband because she hated him.

Abiodun, during an interview with PUNCH Metro, blamed her father for forcing her to marry Jimoh, who she said never took care of her.

She said she had run away from the deceased three times, and was sent back by her father, who she described as the architect of her problem.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Abiodun had been handed over to Jimoh as wife by her father to stop her from marrying her boyfriend.

She was said to have given birth to a baby girl, Hannah, and was living with the victim in their home on Apolo Street, Makoko.

However, she was said to have met her former boyfriend’s elder brother, Wensu, who allegedly gave her the poison to put in Jimoh’s drink so she could marry his younger brother.

Our correspondent reported that Jimoh, a carpenter, who was retarded, had returned home from work on June 19, 2015 when his wife poured the poison into his soft drink and forced him to drink it.

The deceased was said to have collapsed and died despite spirited efforts by residents to resuscitate him.

Abiodun, who initially denied involvement in the crime, later confessed to community leaders, saying she was given the poison by her former boyfriend’s elder brother, Wensu.

The two suspects were said to have been arrested by policemen from the Adekunle Police Division and were subsequently transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation.

Abiodun said she never knew the poison would kill Jimoh.

She said, “I was born in Lagos, though I am from Cotonou, Benin Republic. My father married two wives and he had nine children. My mother had six children for him and I am number four. I did not go to school because my father did not allow me.

“I had a boyfriend, Papa, whom I dated for two years. I wanted to marry him, but my father refused because my elder sister was married to Papa’s brother.

“I was at home one day when my father brought some people and said I should look at all of them and say if I liked them, and I said yes. He then asked me to go. It was the next day that they took me to Jimoh.”

She said she was taken to a community in Ogun State, where the victim usually came to make love with her until she became pregnant.

She said when she returned to Lagos, she was not well treated by the deceased and she complained to her family members, who asked her to endure the hardship.

“On three different occasions, I ran away from home. But whenever I got home, my father would ask me to go back, saying marriage was always full of challenges.

“On the fateful day, I went to the market to buy fish for my sister-in-law when I saw Wensu on the road. He gave me the poison and said I should put it in my husband’s drink. I put it in his drink and he took it himself,” she added.

She said she regretted marrying the deceased because she never loved him.

It was learnt that the boyfriend, Papa, had travelled back to the Benin Republic.

His elder brother, Wensu, a herbalist, denied giving Abiodun the poison, saying she framed him up.

He said, “I am a herbalist by profession and I was taught the job by my grandfather in the Benin Republic when I was a child. I met her sister in the community and we married legally. She had three kids for me.

“But when I married another woman, she divorced me and married somebody else. I did not give her any poison and I have never met her husband, Jimoh, in my entire life. She is lying.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Was the bailout to the states approved by the Senate or there was no need for approval from the Senate? Was there no need for a substantive Finance Minister to be appointed before such a decision would be made? Just wondering. . . .
its buharis high handedness that will soon lead to state of anarchy . APC should continue to assassinate our democratic system by causing confusion in our legislative arm of government.

You have spoken well. May we have more of people like you amongst us.
Even if we go our separate ways, we would be what we call "neighbouring countries"! Will igbos still not come to Lagos to do business and vice-versa?
The East has the goods, the West has the market; Its that not mutually beneficial to both?

I dont see Nigeria and Rep. of Benin being peopled with humans who hate themselves else, it will be even worse than now that "Nigeria" still binds us together!
thanks my dear. may God grant us peace.

The most interesting part of this Biafra thing is that at least 70% of the South Esterners themselves don't support it or associate with it (personal estimate). Generally, it's seen the same way students see cultists on campus. It's mostly selling online because anyone can publish anything.

In any case, I agree and believe that Igbos should never be sidelined in Nigerian politics! Buhari will not do that to the best of my understanding. Well, my major priority in this government is the welfare of Nigerians who dared all odds and voted the government in. We both do not agree on this part, but hey, that's my opinion.

Na lie Oh, we cannot live together. period!
OK like u said we can not leave together, I am igboman , if u say we can not live together, let the two tribes maintain peace. our people said for one to wash his two hands clean, left hand must wash right hand and vise vasa. let peace reign. nature has placed us in southern region of the country, we should bury our differences and forge ahead. the war was between east and north though the roles west played cannot be forgotten easily but we will not be like this forever. now even if we go our separate ways, won't we have ambassadors to odua republic or what ever name our Western brothers choose to bear. won't we have bilateral agreements? let peace reign . Okey now we have interethnic marriages going on between us on daily basis is it not enough reason for us to leave in peace? let us maintain peace .
