EducationRe: Top 10 African Universities In Computer Science: Covenant University Ranked by Bifrost: 12:44am On Jan 13, 2018
Statsocial:
Not only OAU, it includes UI(already on the list), UNN, Unilag, OAU and Covenant.

Every year when it's time to collect all the data. Each university from Harvard to Standford, MIT even to University Of Ibadan and every other Uni that are being considered would turn their Financial, Academic and admission record to Times Higher. The record would for example include all the money realised from research, and industry collaboration. Total number of staff and students. Number of international faculty and students, number of academic staff that have PhD and got it from the University.

Then Times would send 18000 surveys to the best Researchers across top notch Institutions Globally - Presumably to US, Europe and some in Asia. The researchers would be asked to pick the current best universities in their field of work e.g Prof. Melissa Franklin of Nuclear Physics, Harvard would have to pick top institutions in Nuclear Physics(Research and Teaching) she may return Harvard, Oxford, MIT and Caltech on the survey. Then it would be tallied(Nigerian Universities rank severely low here barely getting 1% score)

Then they use bibliometric/webometric tools to extract all research work ever produced by universities in consideration between the last five years and obtain Citations, Research Co-Authorship, Research Volume etc

After that, they would now exclude any University in Consideration that does not have at least 1000 research work publication(indexed by SCOPUS) and minimum of 150/year in the past five years.

The Result are then interpreted and audited by Price Water Cooper House(PwC) and released-So you see why it is completely trusted by Governments because it is a very rigorous process.(over 95% of US higher Institutions don't make the top 1000 rank)
I love this.

Who are you Statsocial? Who are you?

Wow! 60MW is a lot! 60MW can power 15 universities the size of UNN-i hope there is proper funding available for it and wouldn't those workers of such plant be unionised by NASU?
It's properly funded. And the project also hopes to solve the electricity needs of neighbouring communities.
EducationRe: NASU threatens to Shut UNN's Electricity and Water Supply by Bifrost: 8:03pm On Jan 11, 2018
Statsocial:
Joint Action Committees (JAC) of trade unions in the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), on Wednesday threatened to shut down electricity and water supply in the university. University of Nigeria Nsukka Trade unions: Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), said they were participating in the on-going strike to press for improved welfare.

Mr Paul Arua, UNN’s Chairman of JAC, told newsmen in Nsukka, that the nationwide strike of non-academic staff of universities would continue until the Federal Government meets demands of workers. “I am leading the enforcement team to ensure that no non-academic staff enters any office to work in UNN until government meets our demands, then national executives will suspend the strike. “As part of making the strike to be total in UNN, the enforcement team will on Wednesday shut down electricity and water supply in UNN.’’

He advised students that have returned to go back home as non-academic staff currently on nationwide strike would not allow offices and classrooms to open for office work or lecture. “The best thing for the students is to go home till non-academic staff suspend its strike; there will be no lectures, there will be no electricity and water supply in the university,” he said When contacted, the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in UNN, Dr Ifeanyichukwu Abada, said lecturers were ready to teach students since ASUU was not on strike.

“Students are welcome back to campus and should prepare to receive lectures because lecturers will be coming to class to teach, ” he said. In swift reaction to the threat of non-academic staff of the university to shut down electricity and water supply , the Vice-Chancellor of UNN, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, said what it means that leaders of non-academic staff in UNN have a hidden agenda.

“I know non-academic staff of universities are on nationwide strike, I have not heard any university where the union shut down electricity and water supply in campus. “Unless leaders of non-academic staff in UNN have hidden agenda and want to hide under the ongoing nationwide strike of non-academic staff to execute it,” he said. It would be recalled that UNN students were expected to resume academic activities on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 after the Yuletide. NAN SSANU, NASU, NAAT shut down UNN, UniCal, RSUT others December 6, 2017 UNN postpones 2017 post-UTME screening exam September 9, 2017 UNN postpones its 2017 post-UTME screening exam September 9, 2017

I read the news as soon as the report came in. It's funny when NASU-UNN threatens to shutdown academic activities. It would be a futile attempt. UNN academic calendar has been stable for close to a decade. Hence, this ploy by NASU is sure to fail.

And I must say, Non Academic staff in UNN are among the laziest set of civil servants in the country. I am pained by this because I know students who have suffered because of their laisser faire attitude. I wonder if this is same in other public universities.

Just thinking the impossible
But it is not impossible. However, a lot needs to be done. Imagine what the likes of Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, MIT are doing (or have been doing) to stay top. We have a long long way to go.
EducationRe: UI Admits 3,783 Out Of 56,172 Applicants For 2017/2018 by Bifrost: 11:32am On Jan 11, 2018
This is impressive, UI is an institution I respect in the South west. With such acceptance rates, lecturer-student ratio is bridged to a favourable standard.

However, the incessant strike action is what UI should look into, probably pull out of ASUU, NASU, SSANU and the likes, seek better means of generating funds besides federal government allocations, attract alumni funding (which I'm sure they're on it) and UI would rise above to be among the top 900 in the world.

please dont let us take masturbation as child's play becus there are a lot of young ones on this thread who are taking notes.
Masturbation negatively affects a lot of things in the life of a person, most especially the male
people who say its not bad are probably married people who masturbates maybe once in a while when madam is not at home.dont compare it to an average guy who has no wife or even girlfriend and decides to masturbate often to please himself.
Masturbation affects the body, mind and soul negatively
Masturbation can help prevent prostrate cancer. One doctor said. grin

I studied Urban and regional planning at bachelors I have a msc in that same field and also I'm a registered TPL. Out there in the real world, TPLs jobs are taken by other professionals and little is left for TPLs to do.

Right now I'm running an MSC in environmental management a paradigm shift from URP.
And Environmental Mgt is a specialisation for Geographers. In fact in some universities (vis, Unilorin), it's BSc (Geography and Environmental Management).
EducationRe: Geography Vs Urban & Regional Planning: Which Should He Go For? by Bifrost: 6:57am On Jan 10, 2018
The only thing making me laugh is one ignoramus who said that most universities around the world are scrapping Geography from their curriculum. I laugh again.

*Oxford* still offers Geography, (as Geography & the Environment)
Other top schools in the UK still offers *Geography*, University of *Cambridge*, University of Leeds, University of Edinburgh, University College London, and a host of others.
In the USA, although Harvard, Stanford, MIT do not offer it, some top schools do, Dartmouth College, California state University... The list is endless.

No course supersedes the other, it's just that in a well structured system. All of these disciplines have something to offer.
