He who pays the piper calls the tune.Did you expect them to pick Nigeria over their own best business interests?

SportsPesa is an East African superbrand which is the major shirt sponsor for Everton FC and Hull City FC so naturally they'll agree to an East African tour organized by their sponsor.

Lol, actually Lagos is a large city and some parts can be mistaken for Europe and there are many other medium or low income areas showing the hustle and bustle of the completely urbanized state. Note there's also Lagos state and then Lagos city in Lagos state.
There are many other cool parts of Nigeria for tourism and other serene environments.
Funny how you want parts of Lagos compared to Europe but yet when other Africans in other countries dress more western then they're labelled "slaves to western culture and dressing".That they "lack originality and pride in their own stuff."

If you guys are gonna school other Africans about pride in african inspired Aso oke and Agbada clothing then might as well make Lagos look and compare to Lagos or Jos or even Abeokuta .Stop comparing it to Europe or London.

Africans amaze me .We don't like to do stuff that involves too much effort ,too much thinking /planning ,lots of diligence ,stringent focus and well executed good organization...and then we blame everybody else when our societies fail.

Have you ever wondered why the most organized countries ala Singapore ,Japan ,USA etc are also the most advanced /richest? No pain no gain in this world -Africans simply don't wanna apply/strain themselves hence our dirty ,poor and backward status.

If we can't manage very simple basic cleanliness then Africans forget ever graduating into computer manufacturing ,designing rockets or graduating from our perennial dependence on raw commodities for export earnings.

Have you ever seen an open gutter anywhere in the U. Shuh

Why won't people throw stuff in an open gutterhuh
Yes ,i live in the US and there quite a few open gutters in my neighborhood. When there's strict enforcement and better orbanised society then even open gutters are able to stay clean.

USA is clean bcuz they have strict enforcement ,Kigali ,Rwanda is very neat bcuz they have strict enforcement ,a maintenance culture and an organized society that's been cultured to respect rules. That is not so in the anything goes man eat man societies like Lagos and a few other cities.

Nigeria is the giant of Africa. Period. The sooner other africans accept this fact however painful it is the sooner africa chats a better future for itself working with Nigeria. This is what Britain did acknowledging America´s leadership after the Suez fall. South Africa is expected to do the same or continue to wane into insignificance in Africa´s geo-political equation. You can deny all you want for national pride and ego but the indices point to that fact whether now or in the future. South Africa rather will find its relevance in a working relationship with Nigeria not outside of it. It is still an important country. On the map Egypt and Algeria may be in Africa but geo-politically speaking its interests does not lie here; they are not arming for Nigeria neither is Nigeria arming for them. They have their bitter histories of internal conflict and conflict with european powers and Israel to make them continuosly be in a state of war for which they generously spend. Nigeria is not at war with any state. If there was an existential external threat it would arm appropriately for that. Nigeria´s military planners today contend with 14 internal threats chief of which is Boko Haram and same time plan for potential conflicts across Africa. It buys what it needs and not what it wants. Nigeria´s military is africa´s most secretive and for good reason. Nigeria´s navy chief will tell you his boys operate some of the most sophisticated assets but won´t give anything away until the shooting starts. Nigeria´s air chief will tell you the F-7s are very good aircraft and makes you wonder but guess what they are up-arming. The Nigerian Air force today can deploy on multiple theaters of war. Senegal on the door-step of Gambia has an airforce but only Nigeria could deploy air combat capability over Gambian airspace many kliometres from its homeland. Air power is not just airframes but actually an organisation that can bring it to bear in combat effectively. Pls dont mention Chad, it has no pilots and no airforce rather a dictators mercenary protection unit which can be sabotaged on the ground by special forces. You want us to believe a lie that the chadians captured land against boko haram? Last we checked It was the Nigerian army that still cleared Dikwa not Chad who was given a beaten and took heavy losses fighting rebels like rebels with little to no armour. Mali? Nigeria withdrew its combat forces cos the UN will not give it command which if it had the story will be different today but Joe Biden and Yankees were too jealous to allow it going to the western press to yell falsehoods abut us being unprepared: shear jealous seeing the speed of our rugged deployments with C-130s. Let francophone africa continue playing Paris script until Nigeria outgrows France economically. Uganda run by a dictator who emptied his Central Bank to buy Sukhios with no air to ground munitions to play african strong man but in a war with Kenya will lose. If Nigeria was in somalia the story will be different because of its air over-lay capacity and army on the ground. But no Museveni wants to have command but Nigeria said no its our commanders calling the shots or you carry your cross. So we gave them our police. You ridicule Nigeria for Boko Haram which if they existed in anyother african country that country will cease to exist. These are Islamafascists who come to die and not fight and which it has defeated against the odds. Nigeria just like anyother country has its shortcomings and challenges but its natural place of africa´s leadership is irreversible except it implodes from within which is the way empires fall and not by external military aggression. Nigerians as a rule must know hegemons are hated by lesser powers and should of course understand that hate expressed here by some; you can´t wish it away. You can reel off numbers of weapons and equipment but wars are won with a combination of factors: political, economic, military, strategic global alliances and most importantly people and by that I dont mean numbers but human capacity and that Nigeria is not lacking. Nigeria alone will be producing 40% of Africa´s GDP in some 20 years. Lagos State alone is about 35 african economies combined. Kudos to the Nigerians here who stood up for the homeland against hate. Our african brothers we dont hate you even if you seek our downfall at every turn like when we faced the worse evil of all time: boko haram. Nigeria will prevail. This debate will be interesting. When time permits...
Lol ,you couldn't beat rag tag boko haram ,you can't keep your power on 24/7 ,your budget mobilization is below par, South African companies dominate Nigerian marketplace ,your HDI is lower ,still can't get rid of polio .......and yet here you're thinking you 're gonna rule africa? SELF DELUSION is okay to have but it can be risky.

Cool, you know much about Memphis and Tennessee, do you live there?

seems you live in the USA, well interesting explanations from you overall.
You'd be better off in more dynamic cities of Nashville ,Knoxville or Murfreesboro cuz Memphis much like Detroit in the 70's is declining. It used to be the largest city but now its 2nd.
Also most of the big firms and employers (Nissan,VW ,Eastman Chemical) are in the eastern half of the state though Memphis still has Fedex,Autozone and Int'l paper. Most of the cultural sites are also in eastern portion of Tennessee and driving accross state from end to end can be like 4hrs and tiring.
Rent and housing can be cheaper in the smaller cities and quality of life in smaller cities is pretty good too with a good job market too.Memphis tends to be higher in violent crime nationally so...be advised. Its also on the Mississippi river which once in a while floods the cities along its path,Memphis included.
Overall ,Tennessee is better than other southern states like Alabama,Mississippi or Arkansas but there's a good number of hidden racists groups in the state(like KKK) but its more cosmopolitan cities are okay.

No matter how well the govt tries, there will always be people complaining, and this is not unique to Kenya. These types of people want roads, ports, more power, railways etc but they dont want to hear about debts. What? The same people know that our economy is not powered by underground mineral resources like oil or gold. We generate revenue from services and agriculture. Its inexorable that we have to borrow to expand our infrastructure because our revenue sources arent as big. The debt ratio which currently stands at 52 % of GDP is also not a thing to worry serious economists, of which the CS's of Industry and Finance are. Just to give you an idea of where we are, the UK has a debt to gdp ratio of 92.2 %, France 96.5 %, Canada 98.8 %, Cyprus 104.6 %, Belgium 106.7 %, Singapore 110.5 %, Cape Verde 116.8 %, Portugal 126.2 %, Italy 132.5 % and Japan 234.7 %. That is even without mentioning the likes of Greece, Spain and Brazil who are or have been in some serious jeopardy lately. Those of you who have businesses know just how important borrowing loans is to growth. What should concern everyone is whether the debt is sustainable. Not that it is 50 %. Japan has such a huge loan and they're still borrowing because they know they can pay back. Meanwhile, they are using their money to expand their already sophisticated economy by any standards. Kenya has never been at risk of not paying back its debtors, not even now. We will soon be exporting oil and paying back the debts will only be smoother. I am not insinuating we should borrow more because we have oil now, no! But with oil we will have a deeper source of revenue. Imo, the subsequent governments should use oil to grow the infrastructure countrywide. The Dubai model is an excellent one. If they do so, we will shift from where we are now to something close to them in a very few short years, corruption notwithstanding. Its when the huge projects that are being undertaken start paying dividends, which might take some time, that many will realize the benefit of borrowing to expand your infrastructure. The issue is not whether you are borrowing, but whether you have the capacity to pay back.
Yup,your'e very right .Its mind boggling that some folks choose to ignore certain facts when it doesn't suit their skewed political narrative .Trying to argue that far more companies have set up shop than the few that've left isn't popular here.Lack of unga is a very big factor but somehow greater regional drought is not.Debt is a big concern but lets not notice the new railway and the bunch of roads built ,power plants expanded and the stable power supply gained ...its all really illogical and nauseating.

I'm a business minded person and i'd really love to see this upward trend kept up and the pace even speeded up and whatever is politically convenient for some should come 2nd .Heck i'm proud of the vast improvement in the ease of doing business ranking achieved by this administration (3rd most improved in the world) Also check out the 2017 Global Innovation Index rankings that came out in March 2017 where Kenya came 3rd in SSA thanks to the momentum of the current govt.

NairobiWalker:
1. The GDP should have been triple - of course it should. Rampant looting and negligence that saw several local industries close shop or brought to their knees (sugar industry for instance) while others moved to other countries (e.g Sameer to India) while we saw former petty politicians like Duale who barely owned anything other than their MP salary become billionaires plus a host of other scandals prevented this.

2. Oil discovery came with lots of speculation and more investments came in creating a multiplier effect that played it's part on the GDP. Go to Turkana county and see what's happening their. Remember the Chinese who considered Tanzania their biggest E African ally moved to Kenya after the oil discoveries. Avic is setting up a mega headquarter in Westlands now. Lappset - the largest project in Africa currently is happening because of the oil discovery.

3. See - Kenya's GDP was $55 billion in 2013 after rebasing. Contrary to Kikuyu1's assertions, it never doubled unless you consider the 2013 figure before rebasing. The population of Kenya is said to have increased by around 5M over the same period. This translates to a GDP per capita rise of just about 20%. (from around $1370 to $1666). Meanwhile see the prices of some basic commodities over the same period.

1. Bread - KES 40 - KES 50 (20% increase)
2. Kilo of beef - KES 240 - KES 450 (87% increase)
3. Maize flour 2KG - KES 90 - KES 160 (78% increase)
4. 500ml milk - KES 30 - KES 60 (100% increase)
5. Electricity token - KES 12 - KES 18 (50% increase)
6. Sugar 1kg - KES 100 - KES 240 (140% increase)

Those are just a few examples of the most important products in the country - and before I forget, the national debt rose the fastest during those 5 years. Now tell me with a straight face if the gains in GDP within the last 5 years has really improved the living standards the ordinary Kenyan other than the corrupt tenderprenuer. You don't want us to be like the Nigerians who take pride in GDP figures while the ordinary mwananchi can barely afford basic needs.
Too much selective "facts" and misrepresentations here .

First off ,Lapsett was never about oil discovery it was mooted as part of Vision 2030 way back in 2008 - thats 4yrs before oil was 1st discovered in 2012,and in any case the total cost of Lapsett is way way above the small value of oil discovered .

You mention collapse of sugar industry but fail to say some of its woes are tied to Kidero - the NASA man widely held responsible for Mumias woes .And some of the chief accusers of looting and corruption were asked to go give concrete evidence to EACC they refused -cuz it was all for political mileage but with no supporting evidence.

You just mention one industry relocating but fail to highlight the many that've set base in Kenya.Daimler came in 2016,VW set up not too long ago,Hela clothing came in March 2017,many respected global hotel chains have opened shop,Volvo Trucks is opening an assembly plant in Mombasa and many other smaller firms have same plans.AVIC also set up their HQs here not bcuz of oil mind you.

You mention GDP not doubling and prices going up but you fail to say other factors like exchange rate went from 85 per $ to average 102 per $.In any case no country can lift its millions out of poverty in just 5yrs - even China with its massive growth of 10% for nearly 20yrs hasn'tbeen able to lift every Chinaman from poverty hence you see them trooping to settle in Africa.Real GDP growth has to go for long time in a sustained manner for you to see the dividends (has Ethiopia which is grows even faster managed to eliminated poverty?)

Lastly the debt rise has its visible effect - the roads ,power plants ,the massive rise in electrification rate ,the better hospital facilities (two specialised centeres in every county) the port dredging and capacity enhancement .the SGR ....all these are visible effects of debt rise and they'll have a knock on effect on GDP.

Now tell us with a straight face that living standards haven't improved and all these other factors don't have a net effect on the overall sitution? Lets not argue with emotions but let facts come naked with no skewed and selective way of looking at the big picture.

A country with a higher population and greater landmass always have the potentials of becoming bigger, better and more relevant than smaller ones.

But they are one cities signled out of a million pestilential squalours. My experience in Dar: The African culture is eroded by the western values (major stakeholders in national economy). I was always begged to pay for anything in Dollars. The restaurant are filled with white people and continental dishes. Beautiful beach where I only found a local drink. Outside Dar, then unimaginable slums. I have East Africans as classmates especially Kenyans. They always have this funny superiority complex amidst other Africans.
