This is horrible news,
Did he not have a visa?
Did he not have a personal physician in the USA/UK/GERMANY/SPAIN?
Is the man not rich enough?
Why did the AD allow this to happen?
Could they not have hired an air ambulance and sent this man abroad?
I feel for the family,
I really feel for the family, I think the AD may have just proved a point, but why use their presidential aspirant?
May the good Lord keep his soul and give his family the courage to bear this irreparable loss
Guys, take it easy; this is not the time to shoot this guy for making a sincere comment.

Can't you feel or see that this guy is upset?

Amazing!

You see, the problem here is, instead of people in general (including you) to forget the hate for Big B1 and focus more on the topic; no, they choose to neglet the subject and focus on attacking Big B1, bringing brother down, regardless of whether his recommendation is bright or not.

And that is totally wrong and sad.

And that is also why you're having headache. Read the topic, pay attention to my points and you will quickly discover that my recommendation signifies long term resolution that will be beneficial to all forever.

Nigeria candidate death casts doubt on poll schedule
Thu 29 Mar 2007, 14:45 GMT

ABUJA, March 29 (Reuters) - A Nigerian presidential candidate died on Thursday, President Olusegun Obasanjo said, casting doubt over whether landmark elections will be held as scheduled next month.

Adebayo Adefarati, 76, candidate of the opposition Alliance for Democracy (AD), died in the southwestern state of Ondo, private radio Ray Power FM reported. The station said Adefarati, who was diabetic, died in hospital.

Obasanjo, speaking at a campaign rally of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the capital Abuja, asked the crowd to observe a minute's silence in memory of Adefarati.

Nigeria's Electoral Act stipulates that elections can be postponed if a candidate dies after the deadline for substituting candidates passes, which is the case now. Obasanjo did not say anything about any postponement.

The constitution obliges Obasanjo to hand over power to a new administration at the end of his second term, on May 29. Any postponement of the polls would have to fit within that timetable.

The Electoral Act says a postponement can only be decided by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Spokesmen for the INEC and the AD were not immediately available to comment. It was not clear if the AD would request a postponement of the elections to allow the party to produce a new candidate.

Nigerians are due to elect their president, state governors and state and national legislators in polls that should mark the first fully democratic transition in Africa's most populous country since independence from Britain in 1960.

The gubernatorial and state assembly elections are scheduled for April 14 while the presidential and National Assembly polls are due to be held on April 21.

News of Adefarati's death comes at a time of heightened tensions in Nigerian politics. Opposition parties have accused Obasanjo of seeking ways to prolong his tenure, which he denies. (Additional reporting by Felix Onuah

15 months after the privatizing transition of NEPA has been completed, I predict that Nigerian citizens will experience 80% improvement in power supply through out the nation.
Politics › Re: Nigerian Electricity Under Construction by BigB11(m): 3:55pm On Mar 29, 2007
Good point, but I'm not sure if it is an excellent recommendation to resolve this problem.

As we all know, this power failure issue has been an on-going problem in Nigeria for more than 40 years; during these years we've had different leaders or different regimes and it seems that none of this era is competent enough to come up with a solid strategy to rectify this power failure issue forever.

To me, I think it's time to move on and allow private sector to invest their money to fully develop the electric power in Nigeria.

How long are we willing to wait for these incompetent leaders?
How long are we willing to wait for Federal Government (the invisible entity) to start performing magic?

Privatizing NEPA will give a sense of responsibility to the private sector and will also give Nigerian citizens tangible premise to hold someone (an organization) responsible for power failure.

At the moment, I do not think anyone is responsible for this failure, but the invisible Federal Government.
How long do we want to live like this?

Enough is enough, it's time to change things for better and forever; I say 100% PRIVATIZATION

I do not know what it is, but I truly admire the first president of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He was an outstanding leader; he was very tough, knowledgeable, focused and had a clear vision.

I'm still move today by his incredible powerful speech delivered at the United Nations in 1960.

He was the man, a great communicator who couldn't be manipulated by any entity.

Do u think d government would do dt?How stable will b d rate if private investors come in?
Just because something is privatized doesn't mean that it is fully controlled by the private sector.

NEPA could be privatized with strict Federal Government regulations to protect the citizens.

There is absolutely nothing to be scared of, this is the only way to change constant power failure for better and forever.

Get what? One moment you are talking about not having any need for EFCC as ICPC could do the job and the next minute you are saying the opposite.
My man, even the topic says "EFCC should stay". What are you talking about?

OK, I will make this easy for everybody.

EFCC as a vital Federal Government organization should be restructured or should be left as it is?

Could you please present your suggestion?
Politics › Re: Nigerian Electricity Under Construction by BigB11(m): 8:20pm On Mar 28, 2007
Definitely, privatization is the obvious and only solution. Waste time not, NEPA should be divided into 3 parts and privatized immediately.
Dividing it into 3 parts will promote positive competition between the 3 organizations and this will also give Nigerian citizens option to bargain between the organizations for the best services.

If you don't think this is the answer, please think back 10 to 14 years back, when people used to line up to make phone calls at their neighbor's house and see what we've done lately with our telecommunication.

No need to rely on baseless federal government, most of these officials have Generator to supplement power failure; they don't give a rassss. Allow investors who are capable of developing and taking our electricity resource to the next level.

I say "PRIVATIZATION"
Politics › Re: Efcc Should Stay! by BigB11(op): 7:44pm On Mar 28, 2007
For the 255555th time, no one is asking for the EFCC to be dissolved; we are only presenting a recommendation to have their protocol and operation style restructured, so that Nigeria as a nation can fully benefit from the implementation of this organization. (I hope this is the last time I will be making this statement). Sometimes people make me feel as if I'm speaking French!

I thought you will be nice enough to tell me one innocent person in EFCC net.
I restate my case, I simply don't know why a law abiding Nigerian will want Ribadu gone.
Your question is the same as show me a clean politician in Nigeria, therefore I do not have an answer for you; but regardless of what may be going on in Nigeria, we should all still embrace doing what is right the right way; not doing what is right the wrong way.
Believe me, this is the only way our country will be listed among the fully developed nations.
I'm sick and tired of African way of doing things (rushing and short cuts), which is the same thing as doing things without basic common sense.

Do you get it, AFAM?

I hope so!

My man, you're mixing things up.

Identifying the different between the two organizations absolutely has nothing to do with whether EFCC should stay or not.

Make no mistake about it, EFCC is a great organization, a gift from God to Nigeria as a nation; but is this how to operate a credible organization?
With all these questionable allegations dropping left and right regarding the close relationship between EFCC and inaccuracy, can will truly and clearly count on this organization?

Abeg, pay attention my man; Nobody wants EFCC to go away, all we want is some modification and restructuring.
Any clear headed Nigerian should understand without any hesitation why this recommendation is very important to all of us and absolutely necessary to move our country forward effectively and efficiently.

Mind Your Language, AC Tells Ribadu

The Action Congress (AC), has warned the chairman of Economic And Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to be mindful of the kind of language he uses on national issues.

The Chairman, publicity committee of AC, Lai Muhammad said in a press release sent to Daily Independent.

Lai said: "We are alarmed and disgusted at the kind of uncouth and dangerous language being employed by the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, to vent his anger at the Senate for having seen through his little game with President Olusegun Obasanjo to mislead Nigerians on the issue of the PTDF ."

Muhammad said it was too bad of Nuhu "to describe the Senate as unserious and threatened that Nigeria will collapse because the bottom has fallen off the charade of an investigation he conducted on the PTDF is not only uncharitable but treasonable."

"What gave Ribadu the audacity to be so contemptuous of a chamber of elected representatives of the people?

What is the source of his self-arrogated power?

"In other climes, a man like Ribadu would have apologised and resigned in shame for wasting public funds on an investigation that could not stand the simple test of fairness, instead of opening his mouth to continuously utter arrant nonsense.

"The truth is that the report of the Senate review committee has shown that it was President Obasanjo who misappropriated PTDF hence he was indicted accordingly, instead of the accusing finger pointed at Vice President Atiku Abubakar by a blatantly partisan EFCC and its puppeteers."

He continued, "it is amazing that Ribadu saw nothing wrong in the hatchet job done by the Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba committee, which could not make a connection between the body of its report and the conclusion it wanted to foist on the Senate."

"The same Ribadu turned the other eye when seven of the nine members of the Ndoma-Egba committee were conveniently given choice plots of land, complete with certificates of occupancy, at the same time they were named into the ad-hoc committee on the PTDF."

Politics › Re: Otunba Mike Adeniyi Ishola Adenuga Has Been Cleared By The Senate. by BigB11(op): 12:17am On Mar 26, 2007
PTDF: Senate committee clears Adenuga, ETB again

FOR the second time in barely one month, another Senate committee has absolved the chairman of Globacom Limited, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr and the Equitorial Trust Bank, ETB, of any complicity in the management of PTDF money placed in ETB.

The Senator Umaru Tsauri-led review committee on the ad hoc committee report on the PTDF, in its recommendations, said there was no link between the agency’s funds placed in ETB and the funding of Globacom. The committee said it was “satisfied that due process was followed” in the manner ETB administered the fund placed with it.

The review committee also sustained all the findings of the Senator Ndoma Egba-led ad hoc committee report on PTDF which had earlier cleared Adenuga, Globacom and the ETB of all speculative charges levelled against them in the EFCC report on PTDF.
The Senate ad-hoc committee had, in clearing Adenuga and Globacom, about three weeks ago, stated that after five months of investigations, it could neither establish any connection between Adenuga and PTDF nor between the fund and Globacom.

The development has proved as false, the claims by the EFCC that Adenuga and his company were involved in the mismanagement of PTDF money. With the verdict, both Adenuga and Globacom were absolved of any wrong doing in the alleged mismanagement of PTDF money. The report also debunked the stand of the EFCC that part of PTDF money was used to pay for the licence fee of Globacom.

The committee said contrary to EFCC report that PTDF money placed with Equitorial Trust Bank (ETB) in which Adenuga has interest, were used to pay for Globacom’s GSM licence, there was no evidence of any lending relationship between ETB and Globacom.
The committee also established that Adenuga is also a shareholder of ETB and that it could not establish any link between PTDF and himself. Both Globacom and Adenuga had consistently maintained their innocence of accusations by EFCC of involvement in the mismanagement of the PTDF money.

I think restructuring EFCC as an organization will be much more better for a new beginning and a new Nigeria.
Politics › Re: Efcc Should Stay! by BigB11(op): 4:45pm On Mar 25, 2007
As I've mentioned, Mr Ribadu is a fine man, a dedicated Nigerian who placed himself in a cage by fooling around with OBJ and Nigerian politics.
At the beginning, he was the man, he was focused, he had the support and respect of the majority; I must admit I was very impressed with his drive, infact I was one the first Nigerian to jump on the band wagon and I was very proud to do so at that time.
But this is a new beginning, new people, new attitude, new strategy and a new Nigeria.
Nothing against Ribadu; but for the sake of a fresh start and washing away OBJ's dirty era for ever, this man must go while EFCC is restructured.

There is no way our nation can move forward successful fighting this war against corruption if we continue to have questions and doubt about EFCC operations.

It is also important to understand the different between passing judgment and carrying out investigation.

FYI:I've noticed lately that EFCC fans are ashamed and mostly hidding their faces

Cool thread:

I'm glad that we are starting to wake up one by one by addressing all these little things all around us.  I have a strong feeling that very very soon things will change for better in Nigeria.

It doesn't make any sense to have a multi billion naira house, but to get there your car must go for a swimming competition in a big muddy pond next door. And it's also totally senseless that at the airport we have to chase the cows away from the run way so that plane can land safely.

Definitely, the infrastructures must improve.

May God bless Nigeria.

Politics › Re: Efcc Should Stay! by BigB11(op): 8:46pm On Mar 24, 2007
You know what? You're absolutely correct, there is no one criticizing ICPC.
And you know why?

90% of ICPC members are old school, well educated and very knowledgeable when it comes to law, politics and respect for human rights.
They did not take their positions only to impress the president or to make name for themselves. Their concept or manner of operation is a group oriented.

As we all know, Nigeria is a very entangled nation and it is very important to be careful and as a top federal official, not to get yourself involved with politics.

For example, few days ago Mr Ribadu made a comment regarding VP as a corrupt individual and the president as the saint from heaven.
Give me a break!
Statement like this should never never come from one that holds a vital position like Ribadu's; especially during this fracturable period in Nigeria. The statement is totally unacceptable and Mr.Ribadu should have known better.
Furthermore, Mr. Ribadu's position as the EFCC boss doesn't permit him to pass judgment, his position is to carry out a successful investigation.
Concluding and pointing out the thief between the two parties (president and the VP) is not the right thing to do; it only adds fire to the questionable and uncertain image of the organization.
Politics › Re: Efcc Should Stay! by BigB11(op): 2:58pm On Mar 24, 2007
I feel you and I understand where you're coming from and that is the problem in Nigeria; it is difficult to be clean (system is dirty and culture is corrupt).

But never the less, we should still find a better way to move our country forward.
I truly do not think there is any magic left for Mr Ribadu to perform; if we want a new Nigeria, a credible environment, then Mr. Ribadu must go.

It doesn't make sense to continue to have doubt and feeling insecure just because we are not sure who is truly behind EFCC operations.

New beginning New Nigeria.

We are not criticizing Ribadu, he's a fine man and he has done a lot, but if we want a fresh start, this man must go. He has placed himself in a cage by fooling around with OBJ and political holocaust.

It doesn't matter what he does from now on, the stain stays and we will always have doubt about his operation; and this is not the way we want to view EFCC. We want a reliable organization with incredible credibility.

This is a new beginning, why not take advantage of it and do it right this time around?
It will be better for a new Nigeria and the man himself if he can just move on and allow a fresh start with a better strategy to control the organization.

As per someone's previous post, this position is not a life time position; it is definitely a great idea to make this kind of change every 4 years.

I also believe that EFCC will function better and will be more successful if they focus on a group concept instead of one man show.

Once again, Mr Ribadu has done well; afterall no one is perfect, but he must go.

Just because you've started something nice doesn't mean you have to finish it.
