The military government of Mali have officially announced an end to diplomatic, military and economic ties with France which it claims is according to the demands of the Malien people. This was contained in a communique sent out by the spokesperson of the transitional government led by Colonel Assimi Goita Malick. The government said its decision to sever cooperation agreements with France was effective from Monday, the 24th of January 2022. It also announced an end to its participation in the Economic Community Of West African States ECOWAS and noted that henceforth Mali will no longer be a member of ECOWAS. The Malian military government also announced that as of the 24th of January, French seized to be the official language of Mali, adding that Bambara will henceforth be the official language of Mali. The government of Mali also called for the immediate exit of France and its troops from across its national territory, the immediate closure of the French embassy and all French institutions in the country within 72 hours. The government of Mali calls on all the youths, civil servants, civil society, and religious authorities to mobilize and take charge of their destiny. tshtsh: It cannot be overcome by any airline. Even virgin Atlantic backed virgin nigeria was incompetent in on-time performance. Same with arik, aero now Airpeace. Once they start operating into multiple airports their service standard drops But how come all the foreign airlines all take off and land on time. United Nigeria takes off on time and lands on time as well. My brother I humbly appeal to you to shun all these excuses.... tell me all the airlines cant come together make the airport to work. once theres a will theres a way. We cant just say "thats just how it is" and fold our arms.... |

tshtsh: That’s a function of the environment they operate in. As an airline in a sane climate all you need to do is buy the right aircraft & hire the crew. Roll out your schedule and kick off operations with the relevant licensing . But in Nigeria airlines deal with lack of FX to purchase spares, scarcity of aviation fuel , Ill-equipped airports making it impossible for aircrafts to land when they need to, issues with customs withholding aircraft parts & airports like Lagos that have few screening machines/passenger facilitation mechanisms. All these make it impossible for an airline to operate efficiently without delays and disruptions. New airlines with few routes and aircraft usually seem efficient but once they scale up operations to operate multiple aircrafts into multiple airports the lapses of the system begin to manifest . For me I use only morning flights to minimise the risk of delays but even at that flights to port harcourt tend to be delayed in the morning these days because of low visibility Keep making excuses for them until they start canceling flights....all these things u mention can be overcome by airpeace. No excuses. |

There's a reason why Nigeria records the highest amount of smuggled oil amongst the major oil producing countries. You didn't read when the fat Senate president Lawan enjoined senators not to discuss that in public sometime last year? The oil majors kmow more about the Nigerian waterways than The Nigerian navy! Investigate.. Concessioning national security to a foreign company is a national disgrace..... and the entire successive FG doesn't deem it fit to bring it into the country. National disgrace! |

owobokiri: West Africa is collapsing and the western imperialists are gearing up for some scramble. Huge oil and gas deposits offshore. Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso already had their coups riddled with all sorts of volatile realities. Cotedevoir is on the edge. Niger, Chad and Cameroon are all ravaged by some low intensity warfares. Nigerias implosion starts sometime this years when a myopic Buhari starts to press all the button as he doubles down on Fulani colonialism.
There will be a push back which might ignite all sorts of violent activities. Knowing the west and how greedy they're when it comes to feeding from the carcass of the dead, like vultures, the sharks are circling. We will start fighting and they will be distributing arms to different parts to keep you all busy while they suck all the oil and gas offshore.. They did it in somalia, they are doing it in Congo Kinshasa as we speak.., looks like the next bus stop is Lady Shaws Nigeria. Blame the jan-jaweed party and her evil supporters.. But why is no west African country protesting this?? This means the sea borders are still as vulnerable as they were in 1850 and any of these ships could technically invade Nigeria... We should start by changing "Lagos" to a Yoruba name else when it's Portugals turn to Patrol dem go dey think say na dem get Lagos. |

The European Union (EU) has disclosed its commitment towards extending the Coordinated Maritime Presences (CMP) programme, enabling it to continue to deploy its members’ warships to the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) to stem piracy in the region.
The EU, in an External Action Service memo, addressed to the Political and Security Committee, stated that the Gulf of Guinea has continued to be particularly dangerous for seafarers. It noted that none of the coastal navies, with the partial exception of Nigeria, can operate the required high-sea patrol boats to respond to attacks.
This followed the review of the CMP pilot programme in which member states have been deploying warships to the region over the last two years. The EU expressed the need to maintain its presence, considering the ongoing threat of piracy and other illegal activities in the region.
The bloc is proposing a two-year extension of the CMP mandates, starting from January this year and has outlined deployments of Danish, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish warships into the region.
According to the EU, Denmark will patrol West Africa’s waters for four months; Spain, seven and a half months; France for 11 months, Italy for eight months and Portugal for three and half months.
The deployment will ensure a continuous EU presence in the Gulf of Guinea with at least one ship in the area.
The EU added that West Africa’s coastal navies’ response to the threats on the high seas is not always a possibility or a priority.
Recall that the Gulf of Guinea experienced a nearly 50 per cent increase in kidnapping for ransom between 2018 and 2019, and around 10 per cent increase between 2019 and 2020. Although the region accounts for just over 95 per cent of all kidnappings for ransom at sea, the number of incidents in piracy and armed robbery remained consistently lower in 2021 than in 2019 or 2020.
The EU believes that the risks of pirate activity this year remain high, mainly in the coastal waters of Togo and Gabon, with Nigeria as the centre of gravity.
“Possible attacks might focus on targets closer to the Niger Delta, changing the modus operandi in light of increased naval presence. Pirates might start operating closer to their place of origin, enabling them to flee if being intercepted.
This result could be assessed as a consequence, on the one hand, of the efforts made by regional navies and security agencies and, on the other hand, the increased and permanent presence of international assets in the area,” the EU memo noted.
The EU launched the CMP in 2019 and commenced its implementation a year later, responding to urgent pleas from European shipping interests. Last year, five-member states deployed naval ships in the region, granting the continuous presence of at least one ship throughout the year.
The bloc believes that the pilot programme has proven that the CMP concept can be an effective and useful instrument to contribute to maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. |

If you read the news below you will see that it is all the colonial countries taking turns to Patrol West African waters. Recall "Lagos" is a Portuguese name so maybe Portugal is patrolling their colonial possession?
The annoying thing is they always pretending as if it's to "help". This was how they came into mali and sahel under the presence of fighting jihadists.... in actual fact they were training jihadists in kidal, mali.
This deployment is in response to the coups in guinea, mali and burkina.
Europe has not left Africa alone.

I don't like military rule, but i agree with the rationale given by the military for overthrowing civilian elected government in Burkina Faso, 100%. The number one job of every government is safety and protection of its citizens. As cited by the military, there is clear evident of insecurity in the country of Burkina Faso---leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.
The UN and OAU are now calling for restoration of civilian government in Burkina Faso, I disagree. Where were OAU and the UN when the citizens of Burkina Faso were being killed and in need of help? That is why i am in support of the Military takeover in Burkina Faso/
I wish the Nigerian military has the courage to do the same thing. Nigeria is losing too many lives of its citizens to allow President Buhari to remain in power. At the text I bolded, ECOWAS has been compromised by France and UN. AU is compromised by EU and UN. UN itself is an evil institution run by the West. AU, ECOWAS and UN never condemned and sanctioned these countries for unacceptable loss of lives. |

Also, you that is shouting western intervention....have you joined a party to articulate your views, or formed a party? All you Nigerians do is play victimhood. Democracy and good governance is hard hard work. Here's a recent news article that shows western Europe are still fighting themselves over Africa: www.rt.com/russia/543196-wagner-sanctions-zakharova-response/amp/Believe you me my brother they never left us alone in 1960. As I speak to you France wants to take over mali and its sovereignty; it was Russia and China that vetoed and blocked UN support for ecowas sanctions against Mali. Finally, western media tries to portray African leaders as tyrants who once they get onto power they want to cling to power but its not true. Merkel ruled German for 16yrs! The reason African leaders cling to power is because they are trying to protect their country from western interference. As for minerals the mineral resources need to be traded with friendly states. Africa can no longer be ignored on the world scene. Even eu themselves have acknowledged Africa is a rapidly rising power. |

Monarchy is even worse. Yes, UK has a monarchy, which has been thoroughly defanged that it is not as powerful as it was 400-500 years ago, when a king could tell people that he was basically god's two i see .France got rid of its monarchs ages ago. I won't enter into a long argument with you. I will just give you the relevant facts to do what you want with. Part of the issue is that the effects of colonization has been downplayed. 1. Native Americans in Canada DID NKT SURVIVE COLONIZATION. 2. Native Americans in USA DID NOT SURVIVE colonization; they almost extinct. 3. The natives of Australia and New Zealand did not survive colonization today they are in the background. It's because colonization did not succeed in Nigeria though it almost did permanently that you are still arguing by saying "colonization was a long time ago, stop playing victim etc". Military high handedness my opinion is what will make Nigeria work.... that harshness is what makes it work. UK works because it's strict (just like military) Who told you monarchy is not as powerful as it was 400 years. Problem with Nigerians be say una go just dey talk and argue without facts. The Head of State in Canada is the british monarch. In Ontario, Quebec etc there's governor generals who all report to the Queen. Same in UK prime Minister reports to Queen. So the queen of England is not just powerful in England but also in all colonies because the "independence" was only nominal. Why isn't Africa prosperous?Africa is prosperous but you have been brainwashed by western media yo believe it isn't. As I speak to you western Europe are still fighting themselves over Africa il send you link in a separate mention. Africa even today despite all the instability is much better than western Europe. There's instability India and China and Venezuela too.... Many Africans abroad are returning home. 95% of the infighting I'm Africa is instigated by the west. You need to understand that western countries are poor and they need Africa more than Africa needs them. They are like poor thieves constantly on the prowl for without all their colonies they will quickly become poor. Nigeria is prosperous but is overpopulated. |

backbencher: It does, and in ten years they will be begging for democracy.
Military rule does not guarantee good governance. It didn't in Burkina Faso.
What guarantees good governance is people holding people to account at all levels, and taking an active part in the political process, and also being realistic sometimes, not just voting, going home and expecting goodies to fall from heaven Long before democracy there had been other forms of government. The countries that promote democracy today aren't really democracies. For example in Britain, Queen Elizabeth is the permanent Head of State without elections. The elections done to select a prime minister is a sham since whoever is prime Minister would still report to an unelected queen so its not a real democracy. The west (eu, USA, Britain France etc) promote democracy as a way to meet their selfish interests in the countries they are promoting "democracy" Britain and France would hate it if an African country gets a monarchy because it means they can no longer manipulate that country. |
