They are not tolled because the UK and Canada have other ways of funding the road

It's called taxes.

Uk and Canada have tax to gdp ratios of 33.3% and 30% respectively. Nigeria has a tax to gdp ratio of 5.8%

And with that comes great differences in revenue.

That's why i support the toll. Not because i am a buhari supporter or because i think that we are the best in the world, but because the revenue we earn as a nation is not enough for all of us.
Please share your source of your UK and Canada tax to GDP statistics....

Absolutely correct - in fact earth is part of the heavens. There are types of heavens - the first heaven refers to the cosmos incling earth galaxys etc. The real heaven is where God dwells....

Policemen are under-paid, under-trained and under-equipped but over-utilized. If we want anything to improve in this Country we need to take better care of our policeforce by improving funding, increasing personnel and incase I forgot to mention IMPROVING FUNDING
Even if they were well trained the results will be same. And well trained by who?? Chinese or europeans? Nigerians should train themselves for once.... must foreigners do everything for una??

Which can be stopped by we taking part im the democratic process by being more active participants

Instead of sitting at home and complaining about how corrupt and powerful they all are

Plus how can we fund a budget on a low tax to gdp ratio and a oil price that is low for our needs too? Apart from dealing with corruption ?
First of all there is no "we" or "our" in Nigeria - it's a country of the self by the self for the self.

But you have made valid points.... especially participation in democratic process. With this said toll is not a good idea in a poor country. N50 stamp duty on bank transfers is already a form of toll and that generates big moni already.

You would hv had a strong argument if lekki epe express was sound but it isn't. Basic things like lane markings aren't there. The express roads in Nigeria that were being tolled before, basic things like lane markings not there.

Second of all states can fund their road works. You make it sound as if States don't hv money they do!

Finally active maintenance of highway isn't that expensive since there's no snow. It won't pass N250k per month without any major works

Discipline does not pay maintenance costs.
Maintenance cost is a fixed cost. Toll money is generally excess of that fixed cost which gives room for corruption.

So how else do we fund road maintenance and repair in this country with a limited works budget?

Simple. We take another loan or we avoid loans by raisng taxes on the gdp.
By creating Corruption Trust Fund where all the money recovered from corruption is put - an interest bearing account.

By removing excess compensation of government officials such as senators and ex governors and reducing costs of governance and putting the miney in same trust fund.

They have good roads precisely because the tax burden is too much

And also because uk people actually do take part in their democratic process. Not Nigeria where we vote and leave it to the politicans, forgetting we have to do our bit
They have good roads and sane drivers on those good roads because of DISCIPLINE - not because of anything related to money.

Nigeria has all those taxes UK and Canada have and even more! There really isn't any excuse.

Road maintenance is a fixed cost. Toll generates excess revenue - what will happen to the excess revenue?? What is happening to the excess revenue on lekki epe express??

God bless you for this. You are have travelled far and wide to see the truth. If you want to toll road, you provide alternatives. In Houston, Dallas and other cities, you have a choice. Look at Lekki-Epe you pay and follow unending hold ups around Ikate, Agungi, Igbo-Efon, Chevron. They brought MD LCC, Yomi, he could not say how much toll gates make in a month.
They think we are mumu.....
The person couldn't say how much it makes a month because it's a lot. It speaks volumes of black people that despite these huge amounts at least basic things like lane markings and proper lighting at night isn't there..... this is why racism exists. This is why Nigeria can be rightfully called a shithole country.

Obasanjo government removed toll gate because the money being collected from it was entering private pocket. he never prosecuted anyone. He then put the cost of maintaining the roads on petrol one of the reasons he increased pump price.

Today the money to maintain the roads is still in the petrol price and they want to reintroduce the toll gate. That is not pathetic , what is pathetic is that the useless youths are here singing praises already, wasted generation
Tolling is synonymous with money entering private pockets.... it's easy to generate excess revenue from tolling and road maintenance is a fixed cost for the most part.

Imagine, so it isn’t even tolled? Chai!
No it's not tolled. In Toronto, Ontario, the 407 highway is a private highway and is tolled; the toll conpany make PROFITS from it. The 401 highway (Canada) is a public highway and is excellent just like the UK one you posted and it isn't tolled.

Most UK highways aren't tolled at all.

Why shouldn't I say Nigeria is cursed from the foregoing?? Lekki epe express has been collecting toll for years and nothing to show for it. Uk and Canada don't toll most highways and they are world class. Isn't it a curse?? The difference in oyinbo and naija management is clear!

Lol

Truly, Nigerians are the ultimate in suffering and smiling.

I am not against all tolls, but against tolling already existing routes.

You just posited that the highways in the UK are smooth because of toll, so what happened to the lekki epe expressway that was tolled? Why wasn’t the road smooth?

Why doesn’t lekki epe expressway have lane markings?

Why is the lekki epe expressway dark at night?

I don’t know why you guys must always fight for evil in Nigeria. You fight for old corrupt leaders, you fight for bad roads, you fight so your leaders have the gall to make you suffer more... I just don’t get it.

Look at the picture below of a UK highway and compare it to Lekki Epe, where we used to pay N250-N300 per pass. Do you see how the lanes are marked so PERFECTLY on the UK expressway below?

Or maybe you will argue again, but this time, against your very own eyesight.

Is lekki epe highway anywhere close to this?

Suffering and smiling is just too much in this country abeg
Leave cursed black Africans to keep babbling - and that UK express road you have the picture isn't tolled oh!!

Politics › A Question For Nigerians by BigBashiru(op): 10:54pm On Feb 21, 2021
In 1960, accredited Nigerian Universities used to issue correspondence degrees - u could go to unilag or ui graduate and be awarded a University of London degree. By 1980, the effects of the British leaving had manifested in moribund schools. As of today, Nigerians are rushing to UK to physically study.

Won't it have been better if the correspondence system remained so there's no need to physically go to UK to get the same education??

Will it make sense to call the British back to support the president e.g. by appointing them as minister of education? This includes British born nigerians - so this isn't a racist question.

I agree that men are more violent but that statistic is flawed.

My stance is the degree of their violence is more.
A man will get angry and Beat a woman but if women are to be violent she will burn him with kerosine
You lie. Men have been killing themselves since time immemorial. Not so with women. That's what's called TOXIC MASCULINITY. Nigerians hate telling themselves the truth.

In over 100 police departments of major world cities, police records show 98% of the perpetrators of violent crimes were MEN in every single of those 100 cities.

Men are the perpetrators of violent brutalities TO THEMSELVES and in many cases to women too.

It gets better: If men are more evil why are more women infected with AIDS and HIV?

In 2016, more than 46,000 young women were infected with HIV compared to 33,900 young men
In 2017 only 2% of males between 15 and 19 and 4% of females had tested for HIV in the last 12 months

That's because men are having less sex than women.. Its not uncommon for women to have multiple sex partners using sexuality as a bartering system and men are happy to trade.

In 2018, the mortality rate for women was at 324.96 per 1,000 female adults, while the mortality rate for men was at 364.32 per 1,000 male adults in Nigeria.

in all rights you are an idiot... after a boy has been abused by mostly his mother or abandoned, cheated on by his girlfriend or wife.. gutted by a failing government and job and struggles to survive. Men literally have a $hiter mortality rate than woman. In reality men are PROTECTING women at a rate that they on average live longer than men. This blows away your stupid 350 to 1 statement.

Let me teach you something.. Gasoline is powerful. It can create energy and it can be destructive. Men are the same: They simple yield power to create or destroy. So instead of crying about violence, I suggest you teach women to make better decisions when selecting a mate so they can have better fathers to teach them to create. wink
Your long type up to the defensive is further proof that men are the undisputed masters of violence
