Sirjamo: If this raw material can be processed in Nigeria, it would create thousands of jobs and put money in people's pockets. It doesn't cost much to process it it Nigeria. It's greed for USD that motivates these exports....but it's a short sighted approach.... cocoa processing machine costs less than USD5000 and they would make more usd exporting chocolate, cocoa butter. Another case of short sightedness of people who seek immediate gratification. |

Nuzo1: Ol boy, this is by no means near a good news.
Serious countries left extractive industry centuries ago. Migrated to industrial production, then hitech production. But here we are still talking about selling raw cocoa for almost free.
You export a raw bag of cocoa at N20,000. White man refines it at the cost of N10,000. Sells the byproducts (cocoa drink, chocolate etc) at N200,000.
White man makes N170,000 profit from your N20,000 years of sweat.
Extractive production impoverishs a nation.
As a matter of urgency, we must learn to add value to our raw materials, be it gold, diamond, crude oil or cash crops like cocoa and cotton. The cocoa processing machine costs less than USD5k. Look it up on Alibaba. It's 1. Low iq 2. Love for foreign currency. Exporting to another African state would have been better than exporting to the United States. |

GLeesMODEL: Anambra Gov Election: Maduka picks PDP form, promised to lead state out of democratic disadvantage
Ahead of the Anambra state governorship election scheduled to hold in November, the leading contender and foremost gubernatorial Aspirants on the platforms of PDP Dr. Godwin Maduka has picked his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the Nov 6th Anambra 2021 as he officially joins the race.
Maduka while briefing news men at the national secretariat of PDP Abuja moments after picking the form retreated his determination to bring about the needed people oriented leadership and assuring them of his well articulated 10 point agenda for the state. According to him " I did not come for your money, I did not come for power, I did not come for fame but have come to lead the state out of democratic disadvantage.
He noted that today, Anambra state is faced with many challenges hence the need to be united in their stance and face up to difficulties with fortitude and determination to respond to differences with an inclusive attitude.
“The journey towards liberating Ndi Anambra and restoring our pride of existence has just begun in earnest. I seek your prayers in your daily devotion and your supports. There shall be indeed showers of blessings; seasons refreshing; precious reviving and sound of abundance when we assume office.
I bring message of hope to the unemployed youths, to the deprived pensioners and the oppressed people of Anambra State. I am confident that together we will emerge victorious. We are one people, one destiny. With eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we shall carry on this great task of rebuilding Anambra state and deliver it safely to future generation.”
The picking of expression of interest and nomination form has sent jitters down the spines of Maduka's opponents, as the Las Vegas medical practitioner and Okosisi Orumba has been tipped as the one to brace the tape of victory in the Anambra State governorship election.
The outing at the PDP national secretariat attracted prominent Anambra sons and daughters across FCT and a mammoth crowd of his supporters in Abuja.
Before picking the form for Anambra governorship race , Maduka has made huge impact on the people of Anambra State, through his numerous philanthropic and humanitarian activities across the State.
His forthcoming declaration has been adjudged more or less, a victory party in advance, as his giants strides in the State has already earned him overwhelming support for his governorship ambition.
Maduka has promised to bear his international exposure, to change the sorry state of Anambra and improve the well being of the people.
He has promised radical changes in key sectors of the Anambra economy such as health, education and also vowed to open up the State to the global economy
https://www.abujapress.com/2021/03/anambra-gov-election-maduka-picks-pdp.html?m=1 These things mean nothing; the elected councillors - what are they doing, local govt chairpersons what are they doing? The Nigerian ppl can't develop this country by themselves - the Chinese should keep developing Nigeria. China did not pick pdp or apc form yet they have layed rail tracks in Nigerian. Look for results not politics that end up wasting a lot of time. |

Does your response make sense to you? Nigerians appear not to be able to build anything but are quick to run down built ones. Isn't it a shame that China gave you money to build tracks and also built the tracks. Not only that, they are laying the tracks across the country. Subsidybad21: Actually the problem with African economies is simple. We are not industrial
Someone once made the comment about Ghana once earning 2 billion dollars one year from selling cocoa. Meanwhile a company based in the UK used part of that cocoa to make prodicts worth 17 billion dollars.
We sell raw materians and then use the money to import goods whos9ie value exceeds the value of our raw materials. And then the income from our raw materials ia subject to a price we don't control.
This is complicated by a lack of interest in going into manufacturing, an education sector not interested in training vocational and technical people, a power sector hobbled by most people refusing to pay their bills, and poor policies I've personally priced chocolate production machines and cocoa processing machines - they are not that expensive.... Africa just dey dull.... |

Subsidybad21: Where do you think we get 80% of our revenue from? Selling sand?
Oil is our major revenue and forex earner. Has been since the 1970's when Gowon made the mistake of hooking us up to oil (the decline in agric exports to the UK around the same time was not helpful either)
And don't talk about taxes either, as most states have poor tax to gdp ratios below 3%(most below 1% even)
Also mineral mining in Nigeria is so so unregulated (see Zamfara for example). Most of the revenue from there that is due to the state never goes there.
And no, it does not make me happy @ the bolded; if Africa developed it's economies well it won't need to earn GBP/ USD. Does UK look to earn forex from Africa?? Also instead of Africa to focus on trade among it's States, all the African countries dump trade among themselves which in actual fact will strengthen their currencies - instead they go pursuing trade with UK and EU who laugh to the bank and calls Africa dull |
