Yes before you start castigating me... I posed the question to get ur attentions... But it is indeed true some Igbo men were caught as BH suppliers in suleja last year and others were caught trying to bring arms into the country throu Ghana sometimes back.... So what am getting at is let's stop all this tribal bashing, there are Igbo, youruba, Hausa criminals amongst us; under the umbrella of boko haram or PDP, it doesn't mean all Igbos are criminal, neither does it mean yorubas are sponsors or hausas executors.... What it's means is that " every soul that sinneth shall die" (bible) and "no burden bearer shall bear the burden of another" (Quran).... So a ciminal is a criminal. Let's stop this childish ethno-religious branding ![]() Just imagine the enemy (however u choose to describe it) is united in killing Hausa, igbo and Yoruba and makes no distinction when detonating a bomb, yet we are chidishly divided in solving and facing the enemy.. Common guys we can do better. |

The only person I can compare to this guy in the current north is buhari.... I don't care from where a leader is if only they could exhibit half of this humility.... Just imagine what Nigeria would be globally if a leader like this would be at the helm! All the trillions stolen daily would have been put to good use. |
A lot has passed under the bridge since the miracle baby clutching a Quran was discovered. Some say it's miracle, some say it's a fake, whle some make a mockery of the religion for it. The reason I opened this thread is because even some Muslims seem to believe it hook line and sinker, and are even disgusted at the fact that some other Muslims doubt the story. So what do we do? In Islam one of the miracles (and the greatest) is the Quran itself. The Quran even welcomes challenge on the authenticity of it's claim and encourages people to reason, think, ponder etc. So if the Quran can be challenged, I dont see anything wrong in questioning the story of the 'Quran baby' or even further investigating it- coz nigerians could be funny a times. Another point is that when Allah mentions the Quran does he mean the book form we carry around today, what is the hearts of men or the ever purified KITAAB with Allah? There are evidence for the latter two but none fore the former. For instance Allah describes the Quran as : "Nay! these are clear communications in the breasts of those who are granted knowledge; and none deny Our communications except the unjust."(29:49). In other words e Quran is first and foremost preserved in the hearts before it is a book! Another evidence for the accretion is where Allah states : "Most surely it is an honored Quran, In a book that is protected, None shall touch it save the purified ones"(56:77-79) This above ayaat are very crucial to understanding what the Quran really is. The 'book' been refered to as protected here is the 'lauhul mahfuz' or the guarded tablet! And not the hard copies of the Quran we have today, the reason is the word used in the last ayah above "MUTTAHIREEN" which could best be translated as everly purified. Man cannot be everly purified because he sometimes enters a state of najs or impurity, the mensturating woman is in a state of impurity until she purifies herself, that's why Allah describes us as "MUTATAHIREEN" instead of "MUTTAHIREEN" which means one who purifies himself. Thus from the above we can say that the Quran is the ayyaat in the hearts of men (and trust me there are a lot of people who have memorised the Quran word for word) and also the original which is with Allah. But for easy communication man has transcribed the Quran into a book! Infact the original text was written in a form that some modern day non Arab Quran readers would regard as unreadable. The dots on some Arabic letters were not utilised by early Arabs, because they could read the 'naked' letters, so which one is the Lagos boy holding? The modern day writing format or the early Arabic writing format? Besides the prophet performed a lot of miracles in madina (read the Hadith books) but Islam wasn't then and is still now not propagated on miracles. THE GREATEST MIRACLE IS THE ESSENSE OF THE QURAN AND THIS IS BECAUSE IT CHALLENGES U TO USE YOUR GREATEST GIFT- UR INTELECT. AND ALLAH KNOWS BEST |
tbaba1234: I am Muslim but i think this story is false...Seconded |
I guess at this stage he is preparing his plan to be executed in his nxt tenure..... But on a serious note I hope nigerians will learn a lesson from this that regional/religious politics takes us know where. Vote based on merit even if you don't like the more virtuous candidate because we all will live to regret it. |
I believe in Allah His messenger and those before him PBUT, the books, the angels and the last day and I believe in destiny..... Also I pray 5 times a day, fast in Ramadan, give alms, and hope to go for hajj..... When ever I send blessings to the messenger (which i do at least five times a day) I include members of his household. I am neither Shia nor Sunni but a proud Muslim. I dare anyone to tell me am wrong or will go to hell SOLELY because I don't know or don't want to know what happened among the sahabahs some 1000 years ago. (Allah bless them all for their good deeds and forgive them their shortcomings) |
Who is better in advice than Allah? Thus I use these 3 ayaat to summarise my position what ever the reason for the original divide: Below Allah speeks of bad incident that happen to early Muslims 1. "Surely they who concocted the lie are a party from among you. Do not regard it an evil to you; nay, it is good for you. Every man of them shall have what he has earned of sin..."(24:11) and after that incident that occur to the early Muslims an advice from Allah to us: 2 "Allah admonishes you that you should not return to the like of it ever again if you are believers....(24:17) And finally 3 "And a burdened soul cannot bear the burden of another and if one weighed down by burden should cry for (another to carry) its burden, not aught of it shall be carried, even though he be near of kin. You warn only those who fear their Lord in secret and keep up prayer; and whoever purifies himself, he purifies himself only for (the good of) his own soul; and to Allah is the eventual coming."(35:18) In essense let's not fight other people's war while our house crumble over us(the best we can do is think well of the believing men and women {24:13}). I even wonder why anybody would call himself Sunni or Shia when Allah the most high throuh the lips of his most beloved (Ibraheem) chose the name 'muslims' for us? |
You would also need a niche strategy, something to make you standout yet fulfilling your goal. There are many dawah groups doing the job mainly focusing on the entire ummah, but there is hardly any group that is mainly youth oriented focussing on the idiosyncratic needs and problems of the Nigerian youth... I think a group that can win the heart of the (educated) youths will be a hit. |
I have heard times without number that one of the problems of Nigeria and by extension Africa is bad leadership, but hardly do you find the masses been examined for any iota of fault. Now I am proffering a new paradigm to this self perpetuating evil of leadership. It's my humble belief that the masses share more blame than is admitted due to the following. 1. Most well governed society have highly educated populace with foresight of what benefits their nation before self, ethnic or regional consideration 2. Every nation gets a leader from it's people nowhere in the world is a leader of a nation imported from somewhere else. It therefore follows that any country saddled with successive bad leadership is an indication of deccay in the majority of the society 3. Another indication of bad followers rather than leaders is the approach of the public to national issues. Take for instance the serial corruption in the Nigeria oil industry, there are still a sizeable population who still believe this a smear capaign on a particular region or group and hence support the stance of the the govt not to take action. A more objective assessment would have been: fact- there is corruption in the Nigerian oil industry. Assumption- indictment is targeted at a group. Now any nation that thrives on assumption, rumours or presumptions in the stead of facts is definitely a sign of uneducated, semi educated or assumed educated masses. Due to all of the above I believe nigeria's problem is mostly of bad and ill educated masses and not necessarily that of leadership. |
But Isn't Latvia was one of these former soviet blocs? I would have prefer western Europe |
I am amazed that you keep to this line of argument even after been overwhelmed by evidence. 1. You claim KITAAB in 6:38 means the Quran even after yove been presented with the context. Nay it means the ummul-KITAAB 2. On what basis do you reject the Hadith? You have meticulously shown where we are ordered to obey the Quran, BUT YOU'VE SO FAR FAILED TO SHOW WHERE WE ARE ASKED TO REJECT THE PROPHET OR HADITH (if anything, ample evidence have been shown to you that the Quran asked us to refer to the prophet SAW in rulings of religion. 3. the Quran went out of it's way to quote STORIES ("indeed in their stories are signs". Yusuf) DEEDS ("and he (ismail) used to command his family with prayer and charity..". Maryam) WORDS("and when Abraham said to his father...". Anam) AND PRAYERS ("and when Abraham said O lord keep this land safe...". Baqara) of previous prophets as source of guidance for us. And you are here telling us to throw the examples of our most beloved out of the window. FA AYYUL FARIQAINI AHAQQU BIL ANM? 3. Among the duties of the prophets is not just bringing the message but explaining it("and We have not sent a messenger except in the language of his people that HE(the messenger) may explain to them". Ibrahim) So I don't know what else you need to know. Take for instance a professor of statistics tells a class to pass my exam read only the statistics textbook you will find all you need. But under the topic review of hypothesis testing the text book asks you to refer to your T-tables so as to get the values of t at different degrees of freedom. IS REFERING TO THE STUDENT T TABLE CONTRADICTING MY PROFESSORS INSTRUCTION OF USING ONLY THE TEXTBOOK.? Of course no! Because both the textbook and the t table serve one purpose- solving the problem. (thus do We make our signs clear to them - Quran) |
Dude am not in the habit of refuting baseless claims. I gave you a particular exegesis of the Quran by the Quran, of the verse which was the premise of this entire argument (not by the Hadith nor scholars) if that doesn't answer you I wonder what will. Even some of the references you gave are wrong (for instance where you quoted "we have left nothing out of it" and I am not going to indulge you further by given you the right reference) As I said earlier words appear In the Quran with diffenrtt meaning in the Quran based on different factors like context, asbabunuzul, etc. By mere seeing you translating every KITAAB you find in the Quran as meaning the Quran, I know your problem stems from understanding classical arabic and structure of quranic verses. But it's not my place to teach you that, go and learn from scholars and stay off the Internet until u r able to separate chalk from cheese. As I said earlier may Allah guide all of us. |
Pardon my late reply. Ive been busy all day and was just doing my routine Internet surfing b4 I go to bed when I saw this, so I will insha-Allah answer you. And Allah knows best. Why I asked you if you where a Muslim was not as an insult but as I said due to your choice of terminologies, (probably the seeming disconnect between when you addressed issues straight and when you quote from the submission sites ) like when you addressed me as striving to make it into Gods kingdom? Anyway that's By the way.I will address the premise of your argument and hopefully your derivatives therefrom should all as in the premise, be null and void. First in general you speak of the SCIENCE OF HADITH as if there are no rules governing them. Islam is the only religion with chains of narration of the prophets life himself right from his time to present day (I.e. When they were put in written form) and the condition of acceptance are so stringent that the hadiths have various level of authenticity varrying from sahih to daif. If I may ask how is it that you accept the Quran of the sahabas which they heard from the prophets and reject instructions which they convey to us from the prophet.Ifs it is on the basis of distrusting the sahabahs (whom Allah himself is pleased with) then why accept Quran? And if it is on basis authenticity then conduct content and textual analysis and prove the mustalahal-ahadith wrong rather than blanket and general condemnations. Another reasoning I want us to use before I proceed to the verse in question is. What was the position of the closest companions of the prophet on the issue of hadith? Were they also rejectors of Hadith? Now to the verses you based your argument on. Although I quoted a verse from suratul nisa'i, I don't know why switched it to the one in baqarah, but nonetheless, the verse clearly states "and what He sent down to you of AL-KITAAB AND AL-HIKMAT" you claim that the 'bihi' that followed would have been 'bihima' ONE THING I WANT YOU TO KNOW IS THAT THE QURAN WAS THE BASIS OF ARABIC GRAMAR AND NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. So as they would say in mathematics THE QURAN DOMINATES GRAMMAR. returning to the bihi in singular mode this is meant to be an emphasis that both sources KITAB AND HIKMAH have one origin and you can't take one and leave the other, (this is one of the beauty of the Quran, this is the reason why if it's not arabic it's not the Quran)How do I prove this meaning? From the same Quran you claim to only believe in. ALLAH most high says "verily those who disbelief in Allah and His messenger, and they seek to differentiate between Allah and His Messenger, and they say 'we believe in some parts but reject some parts' and they seek to hold a path there in between. Indeed these are true disbelievers, and we have reserved for the unbelievers a humiliating punishment" Quran-(5:149-150). Note how Allah described them: they say they believe in some part but reject others (how is that? Not by taking 30hizb of the Quran and rejecting the other 30hizb) it started by YURARRIQUNA BAINALLAHI WA RUSULIHI I.e separating between Allah and His messenger, by saying WE BELIEVE IN QURAN GOD'S WORDS BUT REJECT THE AHADITH THE PROPHETS WORD. Well guess what? ALLAH gave those kind of people a MAIDEN NAME "ULAAIKA HUMUL KAFIRUNA HAQQA" i.e these are the true disbelievers. So in essence q 5:149-150 is just an exegesis of q2:231 Now another verse that backs this translation in essence is "...and obey Allah and obey his messenger and those with authority amongst you, and if you differ amongst yourself concerning anything then refer it to Allah and his Messenger" quran- nisa'i I know we can refer cases to Allah by referring to the Quran, but I ask you how do we refer to the messenger MUHAMMAD PEACE BE UPON HIM? And if you truly submit to Allah here is what he commands you "But nay, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you the judge of what is in dispute between them, then they shall find in themselves no dislike of that which you have decreed, and submit in full submission. q4:65 note that what is at stake is not what Allah says but our acceptance of what Muhammad (saw) says, why? Also the Quran says "Whoever obeys the Messenger, he thereby surely has obeyed Allah, and whoever turns away--We have not send you as a watcher over them. Q4:80 Now on all the places you went about quoting the word himat, hakeem or it's other derivatives, this shows lack of understanding of the Quran using words out of context. I will just answer that by one simple example just becoz Allah refers to himself as ALIYYULHAKEEM and the Quran is refered to as ZIKRULHAKEEM (note hakeem in both instances) does that make the Quran Allah, or does it make Allah the Quran. Dude u need to contextualize words to understand how they are used. Finally before I go to sleep here is a stern warning from the Quran on those who take your path. The Qur'an 24:63, {. . . So let those who go against his (the Prophet) command beware, lest a trial befall them, or there befall them a painful chastisement.} Brother I end with pointing out the fallacy of rejecting the hadits in blanket generalization (nothing wrong in rejecting the daif among them) there are lots of verses which you cant reconcile their meanings like the ones i quoted above except you "obey Allah and his messenger and find no grudge against the prophets sayings and submit in utter submission" may Allah guide me and you to the right path. |
what is this addiction with translation? ok, ok.... why is shaikh Abubakar Gummis hausa translation different from that of my great grand father? for heavens sake its bcoz they are all translation of the original arabic. thank goodness the quran is the only book which is still in a living language, unlike other religious scriptures. now immagine for example a letter written by odudua (yoruba deity) in hausa! (what?), now thats one of the contentions with the bible. jesus was jewish, he had jewish deciples he spoke aramic, but the 'original' bible is in greek! why? how? |

usisky: @ Biger boy- peaceAllah foretold this in the Quran. In sura Ali Imran: " ...and assuredly you shall hear from those who were given the books before you (Jews and christians) and from pegans many derogatory words..." So it's nothing new, they called the prophet many names during his time on earth, so why expect less from the disbelievers now. But with patience, fear of Allah and constant clarification, LA YADURRUNA KAIDUHUM SHAI' A. |
What I whsh to verify @ usisky is : With all due respect are you a Muslim? My question arises from your choice of terminology when u type, they r a bit strange to the Islamic 'register' I quoted for you the Quran (not the Hadith) to prove to u that the prophets lifestyle known only through authetic Hadith is also a source of authority in Islam Passionate appeal void of backing of the Quran ( which I assumed you should be well versed in since it is ur only authority) is meaningless to me. If you are not well grounded in that which you profess, then why should the seeing follow the blind? "and We revealed to you (O Muhammad) AL-KITAAB and AL-HIKMAT and we taught you that which you knew not..." Quran -nisa I suppose you can elucidate the meaning of the two bolded to us, O you person of the Quran. |
"verily those who disbelief in Allah and His messenger, and they seek to differentiate between Allah and His Messenger, and they say 'we believe in some parts but reject some parts' and they seek to hold a path there in between. Indeed these are true disbelievers, and we have reserved for the unbelievers a humiliating punishment" Quran-(5:149-150) @usisky if u r really a submitter then u should well grounded in 'sarf', 'nahw' and 'balagha' as these are crucial to understanding the Quran. Thus I will assume the above verse is self explanatory to YOU. But in case they are not I add: "indeed there is for you in the messenger of Allah exemplary behaviours...." Quran- ahzaab. I ask u where can you find these exemplary characters of the prophet "...and what ever the messenger brings for you then hold on to it and whatever he forbids you then stay away from it...." quran- mumtahanah "...and obey Allah and obey his messenger and those with authority amongst you, and if you differ amongst yourself concerning anything then refer it to Allah and his Messenger" quran- nisa'i I know we can refer cases to Allah by referring to the Quran, but I ask you how do we refer to the messenger MUHAMMAD PEACE BE UPON HIM? |
The guy is not dead he is in coma, except u all are praying he dies then your celebration is pointless. And stay off those rumour mongering sites |
deols: I heard an athar of Ali (r.a) where he said the people of the book mentioned in the Qur'an are the monotheists rather than the trinitarians of today meaning a Muslim man shouldnt even be married to the christians of today. Havent seen it ever ever though. Just statingAm not an expert but I think the Quran acknowledged the trinity doctrine in christaindom although it refutes it, but they are still pple of the book. 'OH PPLE OF THE BOOK DONT GO TO EXTREMES IN YOUR RELIGIONS AND DON'T SAY ANY THING ABOUT ALLAH EXCEPT THE TRUTH, VERILY JESUS THE SON OF MARY WAS A MESSENGER OF ALLAH AND A WORD PRECEEDING FROM HIM........ AND DON'T SAY TRINITY........,' Quran - nisa'i |

I am watching how the Mali coup leaders were Forced to start returning to civilian rule throuh economic and military threats by ECOWAS. Do u think ECOWAS or event the AU can force that on Nigeria? Just an hypothetical situation. I think they may bow to pressure from say UN but even that I doubt. |
It is my humble opinion that NL has got lots of potential e.g first mover advantage, large share of Nigerian online discussion space etc. And Although seun means good I believe he is fast running out of Ideas and NL is outpacing him. My suggestion is when ever venture matures and you don't have an exit strategy the end result is decline. 'you gatta know when to run' SO I SUGGEST NL GO PUBLIC THROUGH AN IPO seun can still retain some degree ownership with some of his cronies, but then new capital that will come on Will be accompanied with new ideas, and decision making will be more systematic. |
The theme is so not cool. It resembles those tech geeks forum where russian and Chinese hackers share and sell private info stolen from people's computer, and automated bots. |

Has Anyone Notice The Increase In Charcoal Sellers? Whats The Environmental Impact? I was driving bye today and every where I looked I saw huge bags of charcoal heaped on each other in front of people's home. Obviously these are retailers. I have also noticed lots of pickup vans cross crossing town with loads of charcoal. I also recall my friend mentioning to me that he bought one of these charcoal stove which his wife uses for heavy duty boiling to supplement the gas and kerosine cookers. MY QUESTION IS HAVE YOU NOTICE THIS TREND IN YOUR AREA? WHERE ARE THESE CHARCOALS COMING FROM? WHATS THE TOLL ON OUR FOREST? IS IT SUSTAINABLE? WHATS THE GOVT DOING TO SAVE OUR FOREST? |
