did u read the link i gave u at all ,  i have explained everything u need there ,  perhaps if u had then u would have seen all u know and more and i wont be reposting what i have already written again ,  it took me a week to wirte that shit ,  its wasnt easy for me  but i tried to make it as easily understandable for newbies as much as i can ,  so am going to help u now ,  but if u or any other person has a problem again,  please check the guide if u didnt see the a solution to your problem then u can reach me through the thread i created in Nairaland.for that purpose so that we don't make computer section clustered ,

now to your problem
for some reason the compiz fusion developers have blacklisted your driver i.e your intel driver ,  i guess it did not meet with some specifications or some shit ,  however u can get a turn around ,  this and make compiz ( the desktop effect) skip check ,  this would make compiz run fine on your system , however the side effect is that u might get some weird color when u are viewing videos with your system,  this too can be corrected ,  but try the command first , so

open terminal ,  Terminal is here ,(  Application/Accessories/Terminal ) and run this (copy and paste)

mkdir -p ~/.config/compiz/ && echo SKIP_CHECKS=yes >> ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager

press enter

log out your system and relogin

i wrote a guide for ubuntu recently i guess u must have missed it , like the Moderator said google is ur friend , and ubuntu forum is a greate place , by the way i need to know what graphic card u are using , nvidia, ati or intel, if its an intel the compiz sould work by default , if its an ati card or nvdia u would need to the extra driver and this can be done from System/Adminidtration/Restricted driver manager when u open the tool make sure u enable any driver u see their if any , ubuntu would install everything , pls check my ubuntu guide all u need is there , u can see the guide in www.bigbrovar.
ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by bigrovar(m): 10:30am On Apr 17, 2008
well to have it on  your system u have to install what is called grub-gfx which is the tool that give some applelling visual effect to grub ,  to install
u can download it here http://quasarfreak.googlepages.com/grub-gfxboot_0.97-5_i386.deb

please note this tutor is involves the use of commands ,  if u are not comfortable with sing commands then i would suggest u don't try this ,  it could damage your system and kill your kitten  cheesy

make sure that u remove grub first from your system before u proceed ,  open synaptics and remove grub or sudo apt-get reome grub in terminal

u can follow the rest of the tutor  here  http://tuxenclave./2008/01/18/how-to-install-gfx-grub-in-ubuntu/

Mehn am surprised pple still reason this way , Power is a Constant problem in Nig, Its been a problem since i was born , i have never experienced a 3 day in my whole life without a power cut, yet that didnt stop me and millions of Nigerians from Buying ,T.v set,DVDs,PC, fridges, mircrowaves, the very thing that the young man here hope to control with his pc uses light , did u get that let me repeat , THE VERY THING U CONTROL WITH UR PC USES LIGHT, if the power problem did stop me from buying a tv,dvd, fridge and all , it wount stop me using my pc to control them when eventaually nepa brings light and there work , go to alaba the electronic business is a boom business in nigeria , so is the computer market , no sooner do i put a post of a lappy for sale do i strat getting offers on phone , pple are living their lives and have known how to adapt with nepa , having a system to coontrol basic appliances is not an out of this world possibility in ngeria , i know pple who connect their dstv to their lappy and use it to record movies , its not for everybody , definitely not for the poor , but that does not mean it is not relivant , its not a crime to be rich, so what if he hopes to setup a company that provide that can of service in Nig do are u saying he wont suceed, oh well i guess we see things differently
ComputersRe: Final Year Project: PC Control Automation Of Home Appliances by bigrovar(m): 3:44pm On Apr 12, 2008
man check my post , if u have the time , pls check all my post here , i have never felt the urge to call sum1 with a contrary view to mine daft , but urs is the closest i ever came to doing that , u feel because i connect my pc to an external monitor, and i have external speakers connected , that its sooo impossibe that only ur Dog can believe me , all i can say is that dont rule out the fact that some Dogs do out smart their owners , and the fact that u dont believe something is possible , shows more of the limitation of ur exposure than anything else , like i said read more , go out more , u really need to broaden ur horizon , in ur sUPERIOR way of thinking , because power suppler is bad , then every project in schools should be about how to create cheap power alternatives , hmmm every one of them , and no one should write about such things as "irrelivant as PC HOME AUTOMATION" now if u hear some where that a Nigerian developed a device that could be uised to automate a house and its being hailed as a break thru , u would say , "mehn we have tanlent in this country" this guy had a talent and he wants to see it thru , all u can do is push him down and call it useless just becus ur hrizon is very limited, when i was in secondary school i know a guy who was working on ho w to make a robot , and he made a primitive one that uses a remote , it was made of old cans of inseticide, rotor and sone improvised materials , it was very primitive but he did and made it work , well the guy never went to sci class becus he was not encouraged , he stutied art , today i have not see him since we left secondary sch, and i have not heard about him since, perphaps if Nigerians encourage our own science brians , that guy would not have gone into oblivion

Brother,
I must confess to u and please don't take it personal but your project is senseless!!! and don't even think u might need it here in the western world. PC Controlhuh`Home Applianceshuh Oh God have mercy!!! who gave u that project to write on? Wht does he expect from u? setup some kind of Radio, TV, Microwave, Washing Machine, DVD Player, etc all in one Control Software? Or probabaly write some kind of imaginary story on how it might workhuh Wht exactly do u want to dohuh Place "LAN" or maybe "WLAN" on your TV to your PC (which is definitely not possible)huh Turn your Computer ON to switch ON/OFF your TV, Radio or probably increase the volume grin. Dude, if thts really your Final year project, i must tell u right now that u've definitely visited the wrong school. And also tell whoever gave u that project to get a new job. You should be writing projects on Power Supply, ways to generate cheap, sufficient and efficient power supply for selfuse or Nationwide, not "PC Control Automation Of Home Appliances". and its not about being useful, its about not making sense!!! I'm sorry to have taken it this far but its senseless.
after reading ur post , i found it difficult to digest the fact that u come from this century , maybe u came here from the 19th century using a time machine , or perhaps u are a relic or a lost tribe from God knows where , WHAT IS SOOOO IMPOSSIBLE about using ur PC to AUTOMATE home appliances , mahn u need to read more and get out more , today the margin btw computer and everyday appliances is fading by the seconds , as far back as 2006 i could control my T.V,DVD,CD DESK from my symbian s60 Smart phone , in case u dont know what that is , its a Nokia phone and an old one for that , today on every OS , Vista and Linux is what is called a media center , which is meant to be the center point of all ur media needs at home , me for one my lappy is connected to a flat screen monitor , and to external speakers , we i would easily control my Media needs without leaving my computer screen, everything being made now are becoming smart , fridges, light bulbs, house cooling/heating systems , their are all coming with chips to make them respond to external control and in the age of wirless tech , the roles of wires would still very remote in our everyday lives, so what is impossible or useless about developing technology to make it easy to have a level of control over home appliances , u can use a mobile phone to control many home devices as far back as 3 years ago,

u want him to write about how to make cheap energy for homes , fine that is usefull but check the project archive of many schools u would we over 1 millions project talking about solar /wind/coal and how to harness them to produce energy, so dis guy wants to be different and write about something which would be gold mine in the nearest future , what is wrong in that,

bigrovar, why not just answer his questions right here?? undecided
I have written a 12 page Guide on how to use ubuntu which i posted in my blog , i and friend also wrote series of guides on ubuntu which were posted in ubuntu.nigeria , to allow pple not just Nigerians but pple world over to read and appreciate , so u want me to answer his question by duplicating the same tutor here , what is wrong in pasting a link which provides the answer to question huh? i and some other guys wrote those guides as a poin to of rereference , so is it a sin to point some one to it , mahn i dont get u perphaps u should explain ,

If your project isn't useful in Nigeria, it's useless.  People abroad already have these things.
Thank God u don't decide such things , and u sure do have a Broad* mind for someone that create sumtin as awesome as Nairaland ,  am sure if 5 years ago someone had post about needed help on how to create ATM machines in Nigeria your reponse would have been
Why would you want to use an ATM machines  in a country where power is scarce?
thank God u didnt have a say in that too cus we would still have been in the dark ages of banking ,

i for one would love to control my tv,lights, pumping machine etc from my pc ,  and if there is no light i would swicth to manual ,  but wait minute home appliances even need light to work ,  so i guess if we are to follow your superior way of reasonings then we should not even buy home appliances ,  in a country where there is no lights abi , thank God we know better ,

@geebow work on your project bro ,  and if u are able to develop it ,  am sure a lot of people wouldnt mind having it in their homes ,  if appliancies need lights to work ,  its not s sin for sumtin that could control them from a computer to also need light ,  if the former is widly used in Nigera then the latter too would be embraced

Projects are supposed to be useful.
, and should not be limited by ur physical circumstance some of the bigest inventions were made when pple doubted their usefullness to the society , u write project about what u have a passion for, the guy obviously has a passion for what he wants to wtite about, that passion would drive him to greater invention , allowing the situation in Nigeria to dampen his reason and spirit would be a recipe for failure and under achivement , damn! tell me pple didnt try to dis courage u when u wanted to build Nairaland at a time when most Nigerians didnt have light or Internet connection or Computer or were computer literate or even had an idea about what a forum is or how it is used, but u did and the rest is history , the young mahns project is very relivant in this world which is a global village, dont limit what is useful to the boundary of Nigeria or the cloud of our limited infrastructure , he just might have sumtin up his up in his head which the whole world would benefit ,

its a frigging project for christ sake,  the guy didnt say he wants to install it in his house ,  he just wants to write a project on the topic ,  the fact that there is no light doesnt mean  u shouldnt learn such things ,  he might not live in Nigeria for ever and one day he might go somewhere where the knowledge would be needed

u can do that try going to www.getdeb.net there u can download individual packages to install , however u have to learn to use synaptics cus its the way ubuntu was built , and it sure makes thing easy especially when u have a program that has dependencies , it would install them for u , so my friend get used to synaptics , it would say u from having to jump from one site to the other looking for downloads ,

ComputersRe: This Is Not Vista ! But You Will Not Believe It ! by bigrovar(op): 3:58pm On Apr 08, 2008
yah, i don't like "experimental" or "unstable" but the wubi in hardy is pretty stable, you can trust it with your WINDOWS files. i got a 3cd red hat 9  pack but yum is such crap, and im sorry but the packages are weak compared to the kubuntu i virtualized long ago (6.06). looked around but repos are relatively fewer than ubuntu's at every hit in google. me, i like tons of repos.

media plays right off in ubuntu (except for mp3 codecs) but in RH i had download xine, flac, libfame, alsa and tons of libs and rpm'd - ivh like crazy in xterm just to play dvds and mp3s. sharpish i took it off and reverted to ubuntu on the partition. i left redhat from version 7 but ithought by now they have gone farther than these debian offshoots but sadly im diappointed. you'd think they'd advance way beyond canonical by now
well i cant say that am surprised , redhat is actually ment to be used as a server and not a desktop , hence the problem! but if u are really crazy about redhat then u should try fedora , which is not just ment for the desktop but is actually as free as air , and its desktop friendliness is way better than RH, although its not has user friendly and easy like ubuntu , but u should know that the mein purpose of ubuntu is to create a linux based os that is targeted at desktop user, and that is ment to be friendly,

hey, is there anything like wine, but better? i have some games i need to play. ive gone a bit rusty on my linux, that manual of yours sure would help.
well am not much of a gamer but i heard that cedega is a very good program for playing window games in linux, and its targeted particularly at windows games , cedega is a translation layer -- it translates DirectX and Windows API calls to OpenGL, OSS/ALSA, and Linux APIs - its suport the following games World of Warcraft, Civilization 4, Battlefield 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Half Life 2, Counter Strike, and Fifa 2006 -- just to name-although not everything runs perfectly.but its way way better than what u can get in wine, u can read more about how to install cedega here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Cedega u can also check here , http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=9473 , i heard that its not free beer and it cost 5$ a month embarassed anyway check the ubuntu forums there are bond to be guides on how to better play windows game in linux.

am still working on the guide oh i have sooo much on my head but am almost thru with it , just the screenshot which i need to take for illustrations that remains ,

your mac clone looks good, but its closer to tiger than leopard, even though you have stacks in grid view on the dock. you may want to replace the dock icons with proper pngs of os x icons, and that honking big butt ugly clock is marring the sublime desktop somewhat. mac doesnt have your fire fonts, but i wish it did.

impressive.
thanks bro am actually working to get as close to a mac as i can get ,

seriously, i DL'd hardy Heron iso yesterday, i like the new installer that lets you install within windows, and the fact that now it can read/write ntfs.
u most be talking about wubi , right , it and the ability to read and right on ntfs came preinstalled in gutsy only that the wubi in gutsy was just experimental , however i would still prefer a hard drive installation any day i cant trust windows with my ubuntu files , but i have to say its another good and friendly way to install ubuntu esp. for pple new to linux,
NB i think u will do every well in Linux, and just give it a try, problem arise , but its nothing a good cup of coffee,a face towel, and a time with google wont solve , look forward to hearing from u on how it went ,

Did u see my mac mod ?

NICE!!!!!!!! grin my mum has a MAC and your work is close, real close just doesn't have that gloss of a MAC,still nothing more tweaking can't solve.anyway
well u can try all u want but there would always be limitations, cus in reality only an apple can be an apple , we can only TRY to imitate , but i guess its a good bargine especialy if u dont have the money it would cost to get that extra gloss of a real mac, but u want the look and feel , thanks for the comments wink
when's your guide coming out.got a live CD days back but it's not connecting to the net,dnt knw why.it sees my modem but its greyed out and dnt knw what to do,any suggestions

well i dont know but make sure that ur have installed all ur restricted drivers , u can check System/Administration/Restricted Driver make sure that every thing their is checked , hope that helps , u can always go to www.ubuntunigeria. or better still go to ubuntu forums www.ubuntuforum.org if u have any problem since ubuntu is not complete without the community , and that is where u would find the biggest community of ubuntu users ,
