Just seeing this now https://nairametrics.com/fg-agrees-to-pay-%e2%82%a623-billion-allowances-to-ASUU/ ....the N23Bn is all about 'earned allowances' it seemed CzarChris: The FG should bring up policies that mandates the private sector to fund university research, but in my other post, I made it clear that the FG must increase funding to the universities. Do you know the bottlenecks we face to even get consumables to use in the lab to teach students? I'm not talking about research here, don't even get me started on the challenge of electricity.
I say this without contradiction, Google how much the US, EU, UK, Canada and Australia spend annually on funding university education, then you will know that we have lost it in this country. Look ASUU's demands, is not all about pay, it's more about the infrastructural development and funding of the university. |

Thanks once again ...ASUU really need to make clear their demands like I mentioned before. They need to draw up a business case highlighting all these issues so that the whole nation would know where it pinches them. All the best CzarChris: The FG should bring up policies that mandates the private sector to fund university research, but in my other post, I made it clear that the FG must increase funding to the universities. Thanks for the clarification UT you're still echoing what I've been saying "encourage the private sector to sponsor research works". If the government through u guided policies is preventing the academia from accessing enough of this private sector funding, then it is bad and should be addressed correctly. ASUU on their part should explore ways to make the populace understand clearly the issue at hand and not make us all believe they're clamouring for salary increment under other guise. ASUU should also find a better means of fighting the government and always embark on strike. The effect is on the students who might be their only hope for tomorrow. If I suffer under persistent strikes I understand nothing about, when I become a minister, I would careless about ASUU. CzarChris: let me assume you made this comment out of ignorance of how university education is run in this country. This is like the local governments asking for autonomy from the state governments. How can you carry out needed research when the government and NUC pegs how much you get, with little or nothing left for research, and you will still come here to say we produce half-baked or theoretical graduates?
I totally agree for the 1st time with Oby on this one, we have a lot of multinational companies with heavy business interests in this country, the should be encouraged(mandated if need be) to sponsor research in the areas they operate in this country, rather than sponsor reality TV shows that add zero value to the country. Without bankable researchs going on in our various institutions how do we expect our academic products to be recognised worldwide? I have a friend in the UK, he is in the academia. This guy got a research grant worth over a million euros. Why won't he do exploits and be taken seriously the world over. For our universities to be ranked at least among the first 500 in the world, we must fund our universities.
UNESCO wasn't crazy when they mandated countries the world over to give atleast 30% of their yearly budget to the educational sector. Nigeria gives less than 2.5%, and you believe we will develop further than this? ASUU, is doing the country a favour, take or leave it. |

No one is saying they should come up with schemes to raise money for the 'Government', what we are saying is come up with schemes to raise funds to take care of needs such as research work, training etc. I've not read online (correct me if I'm wrong) where it is mentioned, US Government or UK Government funding research works in Harvard or Oxford, those professors go to the private sectors to source for funding. They don't go about asking government for those funds. Government funding for research abroad accounts for less than 1% of total funds available to the various institutions for their training and research works. We too like 'government idle type of jobs' in this country that's why most became lecturers to earn that free idle cash. Have you seen or heard of a lecturer in a law department or medical doctor in the department of medicine that has no private practice or working in a hospital? Once you're a professional or qualified in a profession, nothing stops you from practicing but not so with our lecturers....they must be pampered. proffemi: Jeez. Everybody wants ASUU to come up with schemes to raise money. Are you sure you want me devoting only 5% of my time to educate the future leaders in my field just so I can generate ideas to raise money to subsidize ...arrrggg.
Lets keep it simple. I was employed to teach and conduct research, not come up with business plans to make it cheaper for you to get a world class education. Why should that be my job |

Sure but then there are a thousand and one scheme the ASUU people can use to raise funds other than school fees. They know it but are just too lazy to do anything. How many of our professors have chairs instituted in their names by corporate organizations in Nigeria today? None! These are one of the ways professors abroad get funding for research (one of the usual issues raised) etc but here in Nigeria, it must be government. On students hostels, get private bodies to setup or manage the hostels. Governments don't have a hand in all these things abroad and they know it. kings09: U know school fees will be one of those schemes n guess who protest most |

This your commentary shaaa ...spot on! RIP the dead Josephjnr: Death everywhere. Explanation of likely way of departure: punctured injury as a result of force from the front to the chest, in turn puncturing the lower segment of the right lung. As a result of injured blood vessels, blood filled the lung causing its collapse and obstructing breathing. The blood may be too much thereby flowing from the right lung into the trachea and left lung aided by the lying position of the man which may cause complete airway obstruction. And the bleeding of this magnitude will consequently cause extreme reduction in circulating fluid(total fall in blood pressure), body compensation failed and death occurred within a short time. #Traditional ME# |

Thank you for clarifying. I was meant to ask if the tickets were hoarded so that means the passengers were being given a free ride instead naaa. People can just fabricate lies and post. Thanks Mynd Mynd44: 1. These seats are not first class seats of the Lagos-Kaduna trains. I have been in them so I know. The only time the first class seats are"headed" is when the the train leaves the Idu station in Abuja. Some seats are reserved for passe. Gers at Kubwa station. But this is not the first class coach
2. Those seats are not empty. You see them from the back and think so because the chairs are large and you can seat in them and be totally covered
3. The problem of people standing is due to corrupt officials who sell even after being out of tickets. I remeber during my trip, theu collected cash from some people.
4. Some managers were recently fired for doing 3 above.
5. More coaches are needed along with more trips; this is the only thing that can stop ticketers collecting money after the tickets have been sold out. If passengers know if they miss the 7am train, there is another at 11am and 4pm, they will be less inclined to pay to stand. Also if there are more coaches, there will be more seats for people |

See the CBN circular to the banks to that effect below. amicable09: You speak in future tense. Till then, CBN won't permit any bank in this country to accept that for common tier 3 savings account type not to talk of a current account.
BVN is easily verifiable. National drivers license is. Permanent voters card too. International passport, yes.
But NIMC, not yet. No bank is ready to pay huge fine for N1 account. No, not one.

You need to ask if proper hand-over were done by the arabs when they left. Very possible the top technical team of the former Etisalat left too hence the new team struggling to stabilize the network. It will get better with time. shachris02: When the news broke that Etisalat is going going to be managed by Nigerians, I immediately knew that the end has come for that once flourishing network...the best we've ever had.
Since after the handover, I've been experiencing glitches that affirm my suspicions the more that it's only downhill from here. These guys are going to run this network aground.
Take for instance this network challenge that I've been experiencing since the past two days. Something I've never heard of in the days of Etisalat. I called and was informed that it's a general issue. People in my area have not been able to browse for 2days now and 9 mobile abi 419mobile has not as much as issued at least a public acknowledgement to reassure us that they are working on it.
Same thing with Glo...Crab. Glo is being run like an LGA firm.
The same Etisalat that was been managed by the Arabs...same equipments... nothing has changed except management.
This is what is wrong with the black mind. |

They can bulk verify with NIMC if and when NIMC releases a web service to handle such requests. But currently there are attempts aimed at converging all identification platforms in the country such as BVN, National Driver's Licence, Permanent Voter's card and SIM registration amongst others. amicable09: Do they have a portal to verify it? There are accounts that can be opened with NIMC temp slip but it will have loads of restrictions and limits. |
Business › Re: NIMC's Response To Sterling Bank On Temporary Slip As Means Of Identification by bigtt76(f): 6:47pm On Aug 17, 2017 |
The temporary slip contains your NIN which even the card itself does not contain. So its a valid means of identification. amicable09: But it is non verifiable Na.
Banks or should I say most that I know, don't accept nimc temporary slip as a valid means of identification.
NIMC should contact NIBSS instead of trying to exchange word with Sterling. I think they are speaking from the position of all banks. Compliance won't even allow the account be opened with that paper |

They should come an sweep Lagos naaaa ChangeIsCostant: Two Nigerian immigrants have gotten international attention after volunteering to sweep the streets in Italy. According to reports, it’s hard to find a job if one is in the process of claiming asylum but this group of Nigerians living in a migrant camp in Rome have started a voluntary street sweeping collective.
The sweeping collective was founded by Wisdom and Osas, who came up with the idea because they had no money but did not want to beg on the streets.
In an audio interview with BBC, the Nigerians revealed that they've been in Italy for nine months and decided to sweep the streets rather than remaining idle in the migrant camp. They revealed that they are more than 300 Nigerian guys sweeping the streets as people give them money to appreciate their work.
