biolabee: iwefactria:Please no guessing. If you know the answer please state so, giving a brief explanation of why. Answers with no reasoning given will be taken as a guess, and subsequently ignored (even if right). |
davidif:I doubt she is eligible for the above mentioned scholarship The Rhodes scholar program is for students from a Rhodes constituency to pursue post graduate studies in specific fields at the oxford university. The student does not posses an undergraduate degree, and Nigeria is not a Rhodes constituency anymore. The fulbright scholarship is for US citizens to pursue experiences in another country, and for graduate studies in the US. She is ineligible as she does not posses an undergraduate degree. |
Capital punishment should always be on the table, but should be applied with the utmost of caution. Some crimes are just too heinous, that the idea of keeping the felon alive on the basis of the futile hope of his rehabilitation (which puts at risk future victims if he does not), while he lives off the taxes of his victims, is just not fair. Even if he does rehabilitate, where is the justice for the victims? I say hang him and let the world move on. We can all argue about the pros, and cons, of capital punishment, the only incontrovertible fact is that, after execution, same felon shall sin no more (which I believe is what everybody desires)! |
bawomolo:Like I said earlier, never compare a knife to a gun, as they are not in the same league. At least you must have heard the saying 'you don't bring a knife to a gunfight'. Your average bob wouldn't know who to ask about where to get a gun illegally. Even if he did, the fact that he has to think about it will make it a premeditated crime, which excludes the moment of insanity that is possibly when Bob has a gun permit. gun collectors shouldn't be punished for the actions of a select amount of people.and what is the punishment they would have to bear. I repeat, it is not about banning guns, but rather control and policing so as to reduce repeat occurrences of someone shooting up kids at school, killing of spouses and children, or just random shooting of humans. there is enough control in my opinionOk so what is your recipe for stemming gun violence in homes and schools? we should arrest the dead perpetrator? People like you are all pro gun talk, until it hits close to home, then you start shouting blue murder. If you had ever lost a loved one to a domestic homicide, or to a school shooting (which is has happened at all levels from kindergarten to Colleges), you will not be online arguing about gun control. Everything has a primary purpose: As a pen is to writing, so is a gun to killing |
bawomolo:and what does that do? isn't it illegal to kill? The point was that, for anyone that wanted to modify a semi-automatic, it takes little effort to modify the gun. you can't carry a gun in cook county i believe.Unless there have been recent legislation, your believe is wrong. The ordinance in cook county banned 'most' common firearms and assault weapons. It affects residents of cook county, and does not restrict transportation by non-residents, as long as the gun is 'unloaded' and not 'immediately' accessible. Even if they banned non-residents as well, does the police check every car that drives into cook country? and what's wrong with this, why stop a gun lover from having gunsWhat is wrong with it is that the gun lover may not love you or value your life. Do you think some Chicago gangbanger gives a shit about a license.Do you work/school/live/hangout with gangbangers? It is cos of career criminals that we have law enforcement agencies. The real question is what do you do when Bob, the guy in the next cubicle who got laid off yesterday (due to his incompetence or just global downturn) comes to the office with a gun and opens fire on all? Would you see it coming when you go in for a lecture in college, and a fellow student gets in front and opens fire on the whole auditorium? Would you have the foresight that your spouse, being pissed at your lack of attention to him/her, is about to make 'till death us part' a reality? It will be unfair to expect the police to protect you from such, rather it best you minimize the plausibility. Most of the gun collectors are usually veterans, hunters, or people who just love to keep guns around. That is a far cry from people that own guns. There are people that just genuinely like guns and mean no harms by them. In fact I would guess that most people that legally own guns are not your career criminals, but that fact does not protect their victim(s) from their one moment of madness. guns don't kill , people kill peopleThe age old argument! Nobody said you should ban guns, rather that it needs tighter control. The constitution that gave them the right to bear arms 'AND DEFEND THEMSELVES' didn't have the purpose of domestic homicide in mind. |
bawomolo:In which state in the US? Your are restricted from getting the permit 'if you have been adjudicated as mentally defective or incompetent or have been committed to any mental institution and are currently diagnosed with a dangerous mental illness'. In most states you basically fill a form and come back to pick up your permit in like 15days. There are no interviews (forget about psychological evaluations). You are awarded or denied based on your record. It easier than getting a driver's license. Even after the permit, there is no monitoring to that effect. Some require an additional permit to carry a concealed handgun in public you can't get this in many states in the US.Modification kits for semi-automatics are available from online retailers, and can easily be carried out by anyone with the slightest dexterity. having a loaded gun outside one's home in Illinois is a felony but Chicago still has one of the highest murder rates in the country. People that want to do harm can get guns if they want toIllinois has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the US and is not typical of the rest. Illinois and (iirc) wisconsin don't have conceal-carry weapon permits. Forget about the gun laws in states like Arizona. The fact that you are not permitted to carry a loaded gun is moot, as it does not bar you from carrying the ammunition along with it and loading the gun at your destination (it doesn't take that much time to load a gun). Any US citizen above 21 who has not been certified a criminal or a nut job, can get himself a permit, and hence a gun. Beyond that all other laws, regulations, and/or precepts, are like medicine after death -the idiot is already licensed to kill! |
The references for the case are public records in the US and can easily be verified. The case proved that Tinubu got money from a drug barron, and doesn't specify his level of involvement in the actual trafficking. |
bawomolo:The problem is not with the criminals (that is why we have law enforcement), but with every depressed individual who decides to end his life, but deems it necessary to kill a few classmates/colleagues in the process? People that perpetrate domestic homicide are like terrorists - they are not black and white, |
Kobojunkie:Never ever compare the lethality of a gun to a knife. People that do so, have definitely never seen the damage caused to the human body, when impacted by a copper coated, lead core, 9mm projectile moving faster than the speed of sound. The ease with which you can take a human life with a gun, is well above your 'kitchen knives, cutlasses matchetes and even stone'. With a gun, the proximity requirement is minimal and the repeatability of the assault is even worse (even with a single shot shotgun). With a modified semi-automatic, you could waste the entire clip by a single pull of the trigger and a time lapse of a few seconds. For example, an uzi fires 600rounds /min. Lax gun control, like they have in the US, would ruin any society. |
kritikul:It seems you misunderstood me. The JAMB (and the multi-choice section of the WAEC exam) are computer graded. Unfortunately, the scanners are sensitive to the size, texture, and darkness of the shading. Add the aging of the equipments, and it could be so bad that it often fails to recognize some shaded boxes (and then treats the question as unattempted). Working under time pressure doesn't give one the allowance for checking if you shaded the boxes properly (WTF!). It is always good to use the recommended (usually HB) pencil as it gives a good balance of hardness and intensity. The idea behind JAMB is right, but like everything else in the country, the implementation leaves |
(Hard) Find (as shown below) the sum of the infinite series, with the nth term defined as n*r^(n-1). 1 + 2r + 3r^2 + 4r^3 + 5r^4 + 6r^5 + 7r^6 + . . . . . . . . . . . . . = ? where |r|<1 1. Infinity 2. 0 3. 1/(1-r) 4. r/(r-1) 5. 1/(1-r)^2 6. (r^2)/(1-r)^2 7. 1/(1-r^2) 8. ln(1-r) Notes: ^ is the exponentiation function, and |x| is the absolute value of x. I will give a hint if no one solves it in the next 24hrs. |
<puts on kevlar suit, and grabs his 'ayeta' (bendel insurance). Makes mental note to self - one does not bring a knife to a gunfight > ![]() 1. Idea is need 2. one, two, three, both of you, follow me 3. (Teacher talking to a student) Bring your note, let me see if you copy down correct. 4. STOP MAKING NOISE!!! 5. Reverse backward <goes off to read posts of certain NLers for more 'great quotes'> |
maddock:That is explicitly clear and obvious. It is shameful though. |
kritikul:The fact that [b]YOU scored YOURSELF well, doesn't preclude your answers from being wrong. Yet, the most likely cause is that you didn't shade in the answer box properly. |
RichyBlacK:need to include options |
@fyneguy, hubreality (and maddock) and anyother CE members in the house. The simple question is "Is it right for a CE member to insult another?" |
@fyneguy If a christian could have no money, and same could also have lots of money, is there any dependence between being a christian and how much money you have? |
mcneal:Alas, one with a troubleshooter's mind! While most of the suggestions on this thread are often useful, they are not necessarily the cure for the ailment. The first step is for the poster to provide the details as provided above, and also qualify his problem 'running slow' in more measurable terms. For all we know, he might being desiring his PIII system run at the speed of a Core 2 Duo processor. |
iwefactria:I know, I was only try to make the question clearer by removing things I felt could cause confusion. (like the periods that could be interpreted as decimal points) |
Just an edit (hope its right) iwefactria: |
fyneguy:Thank you. now that wasn't so hard. Next question: True/False: A christian could possibly have much money in his pocket? |
iwefactria:This question format is not suited to the thread. Please provide another question (or rephrase same) in a multiple choice format and with no time constraints (just like the previous question on kids). |
fyneguy:The qualification was to limit your wriggling ass from defining every church goer or anyone else that is remotely connected to the church as a christian. Your correction is gracefully taken. so True/False: A christian could possibly have no money in his pocket? |
lady bam:Antivirus no give im wowo face chance ![]() |
fyneguy: A Christian who does not have money in his pocket is not poor.It seems you missed my earlier question, as I expected a simple true or false response. To make thing clearer I have repeated the question below. True/False: So a good christian could possibly have no money in his pocket? |
maddock:Is that not the crux of the issue being discussed in this, and a few other, threads? Was the discourse not to set things straight as to the supposed basis for all Kunle's (and others) tirade against Pastor Chris? If you felt paying him back in kind with personal attacks was the right approach, why bother engaging in the discussion? I apologize for expecting more from you. I don't need to seek your permission to say whatever i want to say to anybody here, you were the jumped in an issue that didn't concern you.Dont give me that crap about who is a christian or whose not, cos if you are really one you will never be a PIC to anybody thats does not have the slightest regards for spiritual authority. You do need my permission, if you intend to drag me down with you. It is a public forum and thus I can jump into any thread I so feel like. If you feel I was a partner in crime, then please state what the crime was? Kunle obviously questions the spiritual authority of Pastor Chris, hence your argument is flawed until you can set the record straight in that respect. |
fyneguy:True/False: So a good christian could possibly have no money in his pocket (i.e. materially poor)? |
maddock:Your response raises questions about your being a christian. You insulted someone and then tried to justify it - unfortunately it reminds me of Saul who always tried to justify his wrong doings. It would be wrong to assign your errant utterances to CE as even Pastor Chris's greatest detractors would give him the benefit of doubt that he didn't teach you so. If you wanted to insult Kunle, then do so on your own and be open about it, but don't cowardly use my post as a launch pad for your negative comments. BTW if you ever again dream of slapping me - you should wake up and apologize. |
maddock:@maddock That was totally uncalled for, and you should apologize. ![]() My earlier post was in jest, and was not meant to be a segway for anyone (read you) to abuse. Your near fanatical defence of your pastor seems to have (hopefully) temporarily clouded your judgment |
fyneguy:A dubious statement you have there. Lets make it simpler True or False: A true christian must be rich? |
KunleOshob: ![]() Oya maddock and fyneguy, declare una sef? BTW The yoruba word is mungun not mugu |
