@fyneguy I am at a loss as to what warranted your long post. I would assume you read the first sentence of my post, misconstrued it and went off on a tangent. While I disagree with your notion that salvation and reconciliation are the same thing (agreed that they are related) and would suggest you first check the meaning of the words before concluding on the phrases, yet I would rather not debate the semantics with you as this would draw us away from the main issue at hand. All the first few sentences meant was that the purpose of preaching Christ should be to win souls into the kingdom of God, and not for acquiring material wealth. Hopefully that is clear enough to enable you read the rest of the post. If you still have a problem with understanding my post, I hope you would be able to at least answer the question: "Must a true christian be rich?" |
netotse:correct!!! |
michelin89:when? as I wasn't referring to a specific instance. It was just my (possibly erroneous) observations and deductions. All I said was I don't feel that she should always apologize irrespective of if she was in the right or wrong. |
eyonigger:so cos i no dey talk am for pidgin, u think say I dey 'display'? sorry o, but I chose words that I felt conveyed my ideas as clearly as possible. Even if wanted to 'display', I doubt I could impress more than a handful, as I am sure (and have seen evidence of) there are many on NL with a much finer grasp of the foreign language than my O'level acquaintance. A fitting example being the gentleman with his name in the thread title. |
showbobo:I believe I am making sense, but if you do feel otherwise, please ignore the post, as I do not have the intent to proselytize anyone, nor have the time for a discourse on English comprehension (or lack thereof) |
realpastor:Now you are being contradictory. Why do you "accumulate my tithe for 3 months and take it to the poor and to the widows" if it is not part of the christian life |
ikeyman00:I suspect the problem comes from your choice of words. Soludo does NOT oversee the running of the banks (that is done by the Board of the Bank). The CBN is a regulatory body, and thus makes, and enforces policies, as it affects the banking sector (not specific banks). They are to apply sanctions when needed to ensure that banks act within the set regulations. The moment the CBN and/or Soludo starts to oversee the running at a bank, it has overstepped its boundary as a regulatory body. No amount of policing should positively affect the performance of a bank (except the bank is engaged in malpractices, in which case the argument is moot) To borrow your analogy of soccer, The FA does not score goals, and goals are what decides football matches. No matter what the officiating tone may be, the result (except in the case of malpractice) is decided by goals scored on the pitch. That being said, being on the Forbes list is not as noteworthy as you seem to make it. There are several companies on the list that are struggling for survival e.g. Citigroup and Yahoo. Personally, I am yet to hear from the proponents of Soludo's capitalization efforts brilliance, coming forward to tell us what problem capitalization solved in the Nigeria Banking sector. |
In the adult human circulatory system, which of the following blood vessels does not carry blood to, or from, the heart 1. Portal Vein 2. Venae Cavae 3. Pulmonary Artries 4. Pulmonary Veins 5. Aorta |
biolabee:Correct!!! Nigeria was ranked 5th in April 1994, shortly before the FIFA world cup of same year in which were eliminated in the Round of 16 by italy. |
@ikeyman00 You obviously have no idea about banking or economics. Question: Which problem did capitalization solve? BTW does the English FA win matches? cos according to you Lord Triesman, the Chairman of the Board of the English FA should be credited for Manchester United (or any other english club) winning the champions league or the premiership |
Gettolove:Often when a supposed solution was passed around at an exam center, and same was detected by JAMB officials/invigilators, all student with exact same solutions as the culprits are flagged and their results withheld (not canceled). When your result is withheld by JAMB, you should be able to contact JAMB to prove your innocence. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done. |
I too am a bit suspicious of some of the results. Particularly the 23yr and 47yr old, who are likely not taking the exam for the first time. Also few of the students seem to have applied to the more competitive programs like law. Being Nigeria, would like to see their SSCE results to corroborate the story. In the past, the news agency used to run detailed profiles on top students |
@gabrywyl I am a bit bemused at the ease with which you apologize. An apology is not a silver bullet, and when misapplied could actually engender wrongful behavior of another. |
What was Nigeria's highest ever position in the FIFA World Rankings (men) 1. 1st 2. 5th 3. 9th 4. 12th 5. 15th 6. 18th 7. 21st 8. 25th |
eiete:
Corect!!! Caused a bit of an uproar then, but now their slogan is 'State of the Caliphate' |
A case of pot calling kettle black. |
realpastor:which mean you pay your tithe, you just don't pay it to a pastor. A tithe is a tenth of your income and it has nothing to do with where you pay it to. |
The gospel of Christ is towards salvation of the soul and reconciling man with God. This for the most part is independent of worldly riches. The fact that you are a christian does not guarantee you worldly riches. You could be poor or rich, it has less to do with your faith, and it could even be argued that the former makes things difficult (though I don't think the latter is a slouch either). The story of the Rich young man (Matthew 19:17-30) lays credence to the challenges of being rich. David prayed, Psalm 30:7-9 "Two things I ask of you, O LORD; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you, and say, 'Who is the LORD ?' Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God Same as in the Lord's Prayer "Give us today our daily bread" |

Which of the following states in Nigeria initially bore the slogan 'Born to Rule' 1. Lagos 2. Kano 3. Imo 4. Oyo 5. Niger 6. Borno 7. Benue 8. Sokoto |
eiete:Please see correction above, as Calabar was the capital to the Southern Nigeria protectorate and not Nigeria |

Your proposed solution sounds like OBJs justification of increased local fuel price to discourage smuggling. The first move should be to regulate the market by licensing the practice, and criminalizing noncompliance. |
Shaz:
edited. Correct In 1900, there were three British territories under separate administration within what is today known as Nigeria: the Colony and Protectorate of Lagos with Lagos as capital; the Protectorate of S Nigeria administered from the capital, CalabaG and the Protectorate of N Nigeria with capital first at Zungeru and later at Kaduna. A series of constitutional changes gradually raised the status of Lagos. The first series of constitutional changes began in 1906 when Lagos and its Protectorate of Yorubaland were amalgamated with the Protectorate of S Nigeria. The new political unit was designated the Colony and Protectorate of S Nigera and Lagos was made the seat of Government. Eight years later, in 1914, the Colony and Protectorate of S Nigeria and the N Protectorate were amalgamated into one political unit known as Nigeria. Lagos was naturally retained as the country's capital particularly as it was normal for the administrative headquarters of colonies to be located in leading seaports, the main points of contact with their imperial masters (Muir, 1975; Fig 1 ) |
PapaBrowne:So what matters to shareholders, being on forbes's list? The primary concern of a sound investor is the profitability of his investment instrument and the associated cash flow of the underlying asset. The size of the asset is lower in the pecking order? Walmart is doing fine in this global recession, not because of their size, but because of their positioning. Walmart aims at the lower priced market (which is not always same as low income). The global crisis has led to a reduction in average purchasing power. Thus while businesses which aim at luxury shoppers suffer, walmart business booms as more people willing/unwilling shop there due to reduced disposable income. On your earlier phrase "the biggest would very likely turn out the fittest", i would have asked that you read Who Says Elephants Can't Dance? Inside IBM's Historic Turnaround by Louis V. Gerstner Jr. but on second thought a book on basic economics might be the wiser choice |
It's always a challenge to manage a forum, and mods+admins can't always meet the expectations of each and everyone. I am often surprised when people make mention of mods on NL , as I rarely saw them in action in situations I felt warrant their intervention e.g. when becomrich is spamming his satellite images, or the recent spam of Kumuyi Obituaries (both on politics board). It's good to have a feedback medium for the mods, and even better when the information is utilized positively. On the other hand, the absence of a feedback channel is always bad. Even if some posters were getting out of hand, the right action was to sanction the offenders, in hope of bringing things in line, and not to lock the thread I am nomadic when it comes to forums, and compared to other forums I have been on, NL has a long way to go. <dons flamesuit, grabs a drink and rests in an easy chair> |

(easy) Which of the following cities was the first capital city of Nigeria 1. Calabar 2. Ibadan 3. Abuja 4. Lagos 5. Lokoja 6. Zaria 7. Port Harcourt |
PapaBrowne:Tell that to the shareholders of citigroup, wachovia, lehman brothers, MCI, Enron or any other 'big' company that has ever gone belly up. Of what use is the size of a company if it is not profitable? As per your illustration, it is definitely better to invest in the mai suya who turns profit, than to throw away your money waiting for returns on your investment in the 'distressed' automakers. The point I was making, that you failed to grasp, is that the increased 'size' is a direct consequence of the capitalization requirement. Now if you feel the size of a company is all there is to it, then I advise you start taking basic lessons in economics (or petty trading). |
Pastors are not exempt from paying tithe Numbers 18:26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe. |
RichyBlacK:
Correct. Earlier leaders (like Ironsi) were titled 'Head of State'. IBB was the first to use the title of 'president' (of the AFRC). |
