I thought I wrote Mid Western region somewhere when I made reference to the coup planner's origin/region?

Or, as we have come to realize now, people become Igbos when it is convenient for others to see them as Igbos and when it is not convenient they are identified as non Igbos.
I have no interest in twisting your words.

The fact remains that for Ironsi to be marked for death and he foiled the coup should make it crystal clear that the coup was not an Igbo coup because the coup was led by someone from the Mid West and not South East or Eastern region as a whole.
Your above statement argues that the coup  was not an 'Igbo coup' because it was led by someone from the mid-west, implying that someone form the midwest is non-igbo.
I have simply asked you to provide evidence in support of it.

Ojukwu helped in foiling the coup, Ironsi foiled the coup and yet Igbos had to be killed and blamed for the coup.

Surely not a good sign at all. I like Brett and have always struggled with players loyalty and their desire to win at all cost. I'm afraid he lost some points in the court of public opinion on this one.

On a side note, they can continue with the squabbles and distraction and watch the Saints get an even easier ride to the SB. Now, that would be sweet cool
Its good for the saints to know that they are not invincible ion the super dome.
I think the main threats to the saints SB trip are the Cardinals, Eagles, Packers and Vikings in that order, which is the same order for inconsistency undecided

Firstly - Context is everything! Paul laid down these rules for "propriety in worship"  in other words these guidelines, first and foremost were for when women came to church! A woman athlete running the 100m dash surely will be very scantily clad, with the entire definition of her fit figure contoured and showing, but is her dressing inappropriate for the occasion? of course not. When I go to the gym and play bball, I wear shorts sometimes, and a tight fitting tanktop - is it appropriate dressing for the setting? of course but would I wear such to church? of course not. And would I wear a dress suit to the gym or the grocery store or for when I wash my car? that would be silly and inappropriate.
So can I get an invite to the bball games? I would like to see first hand what appropriate dressing looks like wink grin

The problem with the cowboys is that they feel they have arrived, when they are nowhere to be found.
How can a team hoping to get into the playoff, and possibly go deep, have the worst kicker in the NFL?
How can your starting LT be the most penalized player in the NFL?
How can your #1 receiver have only 1 reception against the saints and droped the ball on a 3rd down that nearly cost you the game? Roy Williams has just 37 receptions for 592yds and just 6 TDS . He is behind Austin and Witten on the Dallas reception starts, and his ranked 53rd in the NFL (behind rookies like Collie and Hervin  shocked). This is a guy you gave up 1st, 3rd & 6th round picks for, and signed to a $54m contract. undecided

The cowboys win against the saint was a one off, and they will be back to their old self against the shitskins.

Do you realize he above highlighted assertion has absolutely no biblical basis [as you claim to fully believe in the bible] making statements like this is akin to adding to the word of God which i am sure you know is very wrong. The two examples of tithes we have in the bible had nothing to do with "all earnings" the abrahamic tithe is was a one off from war booty and not even from his massive wealth or income. The levitical tithes was strictly from agricultural produce and all other forms of income were ignored. Are you trying to show God that you know his will ore than himself by strecthing the jewish injunction to tithes there produce to mean christians[not jews] shuld tithe "all earnings" . I think you are the one expanding the definition of tithes to accomodate church promoted man made greedy an selfish doctrine.
Adding to the word of God? undecided  I simply stated my understanding of it. The fact that you have a different view doesnt make mine wrong.
Feel free to hold on to your own interpretation/understanding, but please refrain from such allegations as above, as I feel it is unwarranted.

aletheia:
Could you please clarify what you mean by the bolded statement above. Sounds to me like some form of "salvation by works". Pleasing God has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with tithing for Christians. Tithes were a part of the levitical priesthood, abolished at the cross. To insist on it is to be like the Judaizers in Galatians who insisted on circumcision ( I wonder why that one is not controversial, after all, by the logic of pastors preaching tithing; since Abraham practised circumcision, we ought to all be circumcised). We might as well go all the way and sacrifice a goat once every year!

Matthew 25:34-36
Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was unclothed and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
Not salvation by works, but simply subjugating your flesh to your soul by denying the flesh its desires (few would say their earning are excessive).
Circumcision was evidence of Gods covenant with Abraham. I dont see the similarity here.

aletheia:
1. Jewish sabbath - from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. So now you know.
Thanx. My initial guess would have been Sunday.

2. How exactly do I pay my "tithes" to God? Could you help me out there?
By setting aside the amount for His sake, and not simply because a pastor demand it or as an investment instrument. The reason for setting aside the tithe determines who you are paying it to.
Christianity EtcRe: Should We Stop Giving Tithe? by biina: 11:22am On Dec 21, 2009
I am not interested in Jewish traditions; its simply what my understanding of the issue is. For me the basis of Christianity is the entire Bible and not just the new testament. The people that did the will of God before the law, under the law, and after the law, should converge, as God is unchanged.

Another example is the Sabbath. I do not know which exact day of the week the jewish Sabbath falls on, but I work at spending at least 1/7th of my time communing with God. One should not spend so much time pursuing the things of the world that you forget to spend quality time with God. this I believe is the purpose of the commandment to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

That your giving should be from your heart cannot be understated, as you cannot deceive God. its like the difference between being a church goer and a true christian. Tithe is not a toll fee for salvation.
Everyone has the free will to choose, I just dont see the  0-100% 'giving' range as being workable (as most would likely choose 0%). Of course one can argue that if your heart is right, you will end up giving more than 10%, but then the 0% lower bound gives the flesh the upper hand. If 0% is not acceptable, there must be a higher value that is.

To be against the abuse of tithes is fine, but that should not equate to being against tithes itself, because tithes should be paid to God and not to a Pastor or any man.
In Nigeria, people are quite religious, but we do not fear God (else our country wouldn't be in the state it is). Hence they follow the pastor blindly, simply doing whatever he/she says, and sometimes results in them being led astray. Still, you cannot throw out the baby along with the bath water.

Christianity EtcRe: Should We Stop Giving Tithe? by biina: 8:54pm On Dec 20, 2009
That you seem to narrowly define paying of tithes as a monthly payment to a pastor puts us on fundamentally different frequencies.

To me a tithe is 10% of all earnings, and tithing is setting aside (at least) 10% of one's earnings to honor God, as evidence of dependence on Him, and as a means of conquering the flesh. Abraham (out of something he did not keep eventually) and Jacob paid tithes and it wasn't because of the laws of Moses. It should not be because of any 10x reward system (and in fact I do not approve of 'prosperity preaching'). Like I said before, such is like seeking the kingdom of God because everything else will be given unto you.

Why the 10% lower bound? because that is the lowest fraction I have evidence of being acceptable unto God. I do not trust in simply using 'your discretion'. Cain used his discretion but came up short. If you feel the 10% is too much (or simply your income is not enough), I think you have failed in the purpose of depending on God. What we need, want, deserve and get, are often different.

Should it be paid monthly? Not necessarily so. If you earn your income monthly, then it is monthly; if you are contractor, then it could go with when your are awarded/paid for the contract; a retailer or a farmer might work out better on annual grounds. Bottom line, the amount should be set aside when it is earned, but I think you can afford to tally up depending on what eventual purpose you will put it.

What should be done with it? It should go towards the needy. The tithes paid by the Isrealites were not solely for the levites, and the reason the levites were included was because they had no inheritance. The common factor was being in need. If you have a pastor or church worker who (possibly because he is committed to the ministry full time and/or is not gainfully employed) is in need, he/she deserves a portion of the tithes. Depending on the specifics, paying to a church might enable one to be a part of a bigger project that could not be fulfilled easily by an individual (e.g. building an orphanage), but if your church uses the funds to simply support the opulence of a few, then you should reevaluate the credentials of said church and decide if you should continue attending such a church (talk less of paying your tithes to them). Deciding not to pay tithes to a particular church should not equate to you not paying your tithes and thus spending the money your self.

Must it be paid to a single entity? I don't think so. If you earn enough, distribution might be more in line with the true theme.

This is my understanding from my reading of the Bible and not just selected passages that suits my preconceived position. I do not believe in focusing on just one section of the Bible, but rather seeking out the harmony of the entire text (and when in doubt, I will incline towards God's words over Paul's). I believe every entry in the bible has a purpose, and think it is dangerous to interpret verses in isolation. We have most likely all read the same passages, but simply have different understanding of them.
Christianity EtcRe: Born Again Christian Women Wearing Make-up, Is It Biblical? by biina: 4:53pm On Dec 20, 2009
We have to go back to the topic of the thread, which I feel is an example of being focused on the literal interpretations of the words.
I doubt anybody would argue that a christian should be humble, modest, etc in not just appearance ,but in everything we do.
Most would also say that they are modest, while some would say anyone that wears gold or braids their hair etc are not modest. I say you should look at your/their deeds to find the truth, not the appearance.

I am sure you have read Mathew 23:23, but I am also sure you will come up with an excuse of why it is not applicable to you.
You have convinced yourselves that only the words of Paul are applicable to you (since those are the only text addressed directly to 'christians'), so feel free to ignore all other books in the bible.

A loss for Atlanta and 49ers this weekend will take both teams out of the playoffs and leave only the Giants looking in.
An additional bonus for Dallas is that a shot for the #1 spot has reopened for the vikings, and will likely go down to the the last game, which means the Giants will not get a free game at Minnesota.

I am not saying that you should disregard entirely what the passage says, but that one should not get caught up in the literal interpretation of the words used.
Like I said before, if your thoughts and thus your resources are dedicated mainly towards your physical appearance, then it is doubtful that your deeds would be as desired, and if your focus is on not braiding your hair, not wearing gold  or whatever you deem expensive, it is all for nothing if your heart and your deeds are not as should be.
Of course there are the extreme cases, that even a blind man can judge. For example, there are some clothes that are less for comfort and more for seduction. One who wears such cannot claim modesty, when all that she is suppose to be shy about is boldly displayed. shocked
