I will go with Dallas over Denver. Denver are 3-0 'cos they have only played Bengals, Browns and Raiders. Their upcoming opponents are of much better quality (Dallas, Pats, Chargers, Ravens, and Steelers). Wont be surprising if they end up 3-5 (and don't see them being better than 5-3) after week 8, . Take away their running game, and its obvious that Orton is not a big play QB. The reason he doesn't get picked, is simply because he rarely makes big plays. Dallas have only lost to the Giants, and if Romo can limit it to not more than 1 INT, I think their defence is good enough to hold the Broncos and help them win. |
Baltimore @NE: Hope they beat up on Brady and the patriots Tennesse @ Jacksonville: The jaguars should soften them up for us. Seattle @ Indy: Colts 4 - 0 ![]() Dallas @ Denver: A good test for both teams, particularly for the Broncos as this is their first serious opposition. Romo is always entertaining to watch, irrespective of who dallas is playing. San Diego @ Pittsburgh : Hate Rivers and the Chargers; hope the Steelers crush 'em |
dayokanu:So all u can do is nit pick at my post? ![]() Firstly. you were the one that made an issue of Owen being injured. Acting smug as if Bayern has never been stuck with a glass vase. I only pointed the case of deiisler, and am sure, if one digs enough, there will be other players. Even with his injury problems, bayern were unwilling to sell Hargreaves, so dont make it like if they sold him out of foresight. Woodgate was bought for £13.4 million, played 9 games in 2 seasons, (after seeing his injury problems over two seasons) was loaned to middlesborough in his 3rd season, and eventually sold to them for £7million. The key part is that we did not keep him for the 10 seasons you were projecting. We saw that his problems were not going to be resolved and cut our losses which was effectively £6.4 million over 2 yrs On the other hand bayern kept deisler for 7 seasons hoping for a miracle even after the guy had voluntarily retired fropm football. Feel free to nit pick again. ![]() |
dayokanu:and you should try and go to school, or at least take English language lessons. I suggest you start with reruns of the English comedy series 'Mind your language' ![]() His contract did not expire, nor was it cancelled, nor was he released from it, but was simply held in abeyance i.e. he is under contract but the terms of the contract were not effected. Whether (or how much) they paid him is irrelevant; he could have played his entire career for free for all I care. Point was that he was under contract with Bayern, and thus a Bayern player, till June 2009. Still, even 68 games in 5 season is nothing to write home about. |
dayokanu:He gave up on playing in 2007, but his contract was held in abeyance, and only expired in June 2009 For 7yrs, he was a Bayern Munich player! ![]() |
dayokanu:Sebastian Deisler: 62 games, 8 goals, in 7 seasons with Bayern ![]() |
illusion2:Dont get ahead of yourself. Lets see how you do in the next three matches (against Lyon 2x, and away to Debrecen) before making plans for the group stages. Lyon are fully capable of beating you in both matches, and getting points off Debrecen in Budapest might turn out to be more difficult than it seems at first. The group is still wide open, and any two of Lyon, Liverpool and Fiorentina, are capable of making it through at the expense of the third. |
Next for Liverpool is the in form Lyon, who beat Fiorentina 1-0 on matchday 1, and have demolished Debrecen 4-0 in Budapest. |
Zanetti is having a great game in the midfield and having too much time on the ball. |
Fiorentina 2 - 0 Liverpool The 19yr old has his brace and is en route for an hat trick |
Liverpool missing Mascherano badly. Fiorentina are finding it too easy to spray passes from central midfield to down both flanks |
19yr old Jovetic scores! Fiorentina 1 - 0 Liverpool. The lad is showing quite the potential. |
Wolfsburg are fully capable of capitalizing on any slip ups. ManU cannot afford to make the kinda mistakes they were making against Citeh. Tricky opposition for ManU, but they should be able to handle their biz. |
Disappointing performance from the flying eagles. It simply confirmed that which was evident in the first game against Venezuela. The boys have the skill but lack the acumen. 80% of football is played in the head, and those boys have low footballing IQs. Their play was littered with awful decision making, which made it impossible to convert our on the ball skill superiority into goals and a win. |
Man City 3 - 1 West Ham. Brace from Tevez, and returns for Santa Cruz and Johnson Next is Aston Villa, and Ade returns from his suspension. Ireland should also be available for the match and (excluding Robinho) we should have a full squad available against villa. |
Colts (3-0) 31 Cardinals (1-2) 10 P. Manning C/ATT 24/35 YDS 379 AVG 10.8 TD 4 INT 1 RATING 130.5 |
Manning and Colts handling their biz in Arizona. Starting to like the new kid, Pierre Garcon. But Arizona is too explosive to write off |
eyonigger:and? nothing will be tested until november when we will know who has the edge |
Na wah for dis weekly 'come from behind' ritual. one day, one day, monkey go go market, no go fit comeback. ![]() |
Romo has to be the most entertaining QB to watch play; not a single dull moment. He is either making great plays while running outside of the pocket, or throwing INTs like if they were going out of fashion. The guy is always good for one! ![]() |
~Sauron~:Typical brainless rant. Try to engage your brain before opening your mouth. So beating Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in a competition is an easy feat in your clogged up mind? Are you a Philistine?Real Madrid and Bayern weren't playing in the European cup because they were not good enough in those years. The quality of opposition depends on the tournament and not the name of the club. Only a nincompoop will think otherwise. This was the same league that Celtic and Rangers have dominated for years.so wining with a team that had finished second on a couple of occasions is outperforming with resources? In fact in his first year they finished worse than they did before he took over ![]() What was Capello's achievement in prime Europe with Roma, Real Madrid and Juventus?and did I say Capello achievement in Europe outside of milan is any different? Yet more evidence that this poof should be sectioned under the mental health act.I know English is not your first language, but your lack of basic comprehension skills is just appalling. One was in reference to his achievement in Europe, the other was a general assessment. Since Ferguson left, Aberdeen have not won the league title and have not even come near winning anything in Europe.Aberdeen finished 2nd in the league before SAF took over. SAF took a 'nearly made it' club all the way. He didn't turn around a mid table club or a relegation battling team like your are painting it. The only thing it points to (and not conclusively) is possibly that the coaches that came after him at Aberdeen weren't as good as him. It doesn't make him a managerial genius. Under Alex Ferguson's guidance, the club won 3 league championships, 4 Scottish Cups, the European Cup Winner's Cup, the European Super Cup and a League Cup—all in the space of seven years.Stupidity in its rawest form. ![]() So winning the premiership is a lesser achievement than winning the Scottish league? ![]() and winning the cup winners cup takes a stronger team than getting out of the group stages of the CL (Shaktar comes to mind)? ![]() Mourinho was at chelsea for 3 yrs while SAF was at Aberdeen for 7. what did SAF win in his first 3 yrs? Mourinho won 2 EPL titles, 1 FA cup and 2 Carling Cups, while SAF won just 1 League title. and you think SAFs achievements were greater? ![]() Your case is obviously hopeless. One should never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time, and annoys the pig. ![]() Anyways feel free to continue wallowing in your self delusions. I do not have the time (nor the inclination) to proselytize anyone. |
~Sauron~:You shouldn't be saying nonsense just to win an argument. The quality of opposition is different in each competition. The cup winners cup had team of lesser quality when compared to the European Cup/Champions League. Madrid and Bayern were playing in the Cup winners cup courtesy of winning their FA cup equivalents and failing to win their respective leagues (only one entrant was allowed per league in those days). They were not the best that their leagues had to offer. Under SAF, Aberdeen won the scottish League in 1980, 1984 and 1985, and thus they played in the European cup in 1981, 1985 and 1986. Back then the tournament consisted of 32 countries and there were no group stages. - in 1981, Aberdeen lost in the second round 0-5 (agg) to Liverpool - in 1985, they lost to Dynamo Berlin in the first round - and in 1986, they lost to Gothenburg in the 1/4 finals SAFs achievement in prime Europe with Aberdeen is mediocre, as he never got beyond the 1/4 final on 3 attempts in the European cup which featured the best clubs from other leagues. Comparing that to a champions league victory is signs of senility at a very young age. What he achieved with Aberdeen is laudable, but ManU fans tend to blow it out of proportions. In the 10yrs prior to SAF taking over at Aberdeen, the club had finished 2nd 3x (including in 1977/78 just before SAF) and 3rd 1x. Aberdeen were playing well and often in contention for silverware. Like Mourinho with Chelsea, SAF simply took them to the next level. He did not bring them from obscurity as ManU fans tend to paint it. In fact, in the 10yrs following SAF's departure, Aberdeen finished 2nd 5x and 3rd 1x. SAF didn't work miracles. |
chic2pimp:Alves, Maxwell, and Marcelo are poor defenders, and only make up for it with their offensive contributions. Arbeloa is decent defensively and versatile, while Abidal is obviously past his prime. Ramos is a good defender with the potential to be great, but his lapses in concentration are often calamitous. Albiol is the best central defender at Madrid and is no where near the likes of Ferdinand or Nester. Pepe is a good athlete but a poor defender. Milito is the best central defender at Barca but has been unfortunate with his recent injuries. Marquez is decent when fit. Puyol's enthusiasm and versatility hides his inadequacies, while Pique is simply overrated. One major positive is that in Yaya, Lass, and Gago they have some of the best (and young) DMs around. Mascherano is probably the oly one of their peers that is better. These really helps in shielding the back lines. I advise you watch some of the goals conceded (or almost conceded) by either team, before giving their defence a pass mark. The key to their success is keeping the ball away from the opposition (i.e. barca) or posing frequent goal threat (madrid), so much that the opposition spends most of the time in their own half. |
Barca and Madrid have two of the worst defences and poorest defenders in La liga. They just don't get tested often enough. Both teams overwhelm the opposition with their attack, and can't sit back and defend a lead even if their lives depended on it. That is why they often lose games in which their attack is misfiring. and BTW Valdez is a basket; he doesnt even make the spanish bench. |
SAF would not have succeeded at Madrid as the working conditions are much different from what he has at ManU - He would have little say in transfers - He would be expected to provide results from his first season. There will be no grace period for team building. - He would be required to deliver silverware every season and would be fired at his first failing. - He would be required to make adequate progress in the CL. Failing to qualify from the group stages like ManU did in 2005/06 (finished bottom of the group) is unacceptable - He would be required to play entertaining football - He has to stay in the shadow of the president. - depending on his fluency in Spanish and Portuguese, he could have difficulty with communicating. Fergie would likely have been fired in his first season. The achievements of a coach or manager should always be taken in context. |

Capello CV speaks for itself, and his work with England just buttresses the point. |
Cristalz:Leeds is my favorite English club. Followed them from the days of Yeboah, and really took to them when O'leary took over and modeled them after Real Madrid( ). I stopped following the EPL seriously after Leeds got relegated ( ![]() I have a favorite club in most of the top leagues, but numero uno will always be the white storm: 9x European champs! ![]() |
Nice game from the lads. Shame to have lost the game to a goal scored against the run of play. Leeds were the better side on the night. Promotion is the priority this season, and we will have our pound of flesh soon enough. |
dem don start again. Clear Leed's goal disallowed ![]() |
mystikal:I am not really partial to one, as it all boils down to assignment of responsibilities. A good manager supported by a good coach or assistant coach, is same as a good coach supported by a good sporting/football director. For me its more about the skill set of the individuals and how those match to their job responsibilities. Example, while Capello is definitely one of the best coaches around, I think he would fail as manager in the kind of setup that ManU has, as he doesn't have the man management skills for the job. The only thing I require is the insatiable hunger to win, and that is one department that I feel Wenger lacks when compared to someone like SAF. |
