@cristalz
I hadn't been active in the sports section till recent (and would likely move on soon enough). My trying to create the real Madrid thread was simply to help attract attention and get more people active on the board.
I am not a recent Madrid fan, and am less bothered even if they don't win anything (as I don't get money when they do). I simply do it just for the fun of it. Compared to NL sports section, I spend more time on dedicated football forums, and Madrd fan forums.

I actually didn't know there was an existing madrid thread before trying to create one, and the unorganized directory did not help matters (I read as far as Enyimba and simply gave up looking). Sorting the list by leagues, purpose or alphabetically, would help.

There were recent happening in the club, and there were no discussion on the thread. IMO, if a thread is not serving its purpose, you should let it die and let another one replace it (and not necessarily wait for the 100 pages limit). There is no point in calling it a top priority thread if most don't know of its existence. The other alternative is to sticky the threads (but that would take up most of the first page).

I felt the OP didn't do enough to attract attention to the thread. The thread title is like a newspaper headline, if it is not attractive enough, you don't read the article.
If one creates a thread, I feel it behooves you to make an effort to keep it alive, at least till the thread reaches critical mass, particularly since each club is restricted to one thread.

Anyways, segunpc seems active again, has edited the OP, and hopefully will stick around for a while for others to join, which should not take long with all the recent signings and the soon to follow fair weather fans.

Like I said, I am a forum nomad. Nairaland sports section and the single thread per club is just another passing fad (previous stop was NL politics). I will likely soon move on to another section or to another site entirely.

Villa Saga Takes Another Twist As Soriano Returns To Valencia
Los Che may once again pull their star striker off the transfer market as their ex-president takes another stab at solving their economic crisis.
Just a month after resigning as president of Valencia, Vicente Soriano is set to make a swift return to the Mestalla following reports that he is about to become the club’s main shareholder.
According to various sources in Spain, Soriano yesterday completed the purchase of the remaining 37 per cent of shares from his predecessor, Juan Soler, to give him the majority stake.
“I do not want to go into the details of the operation in respect to how much I had to pay for the shares, but it is an agreement that I had with Soler back in September,” Soriano told AS.
“My idea is to regain the presidency and the control of the club and what is clear is that one of my companies now has 51 per cent of the shares.”
While the Madrid-based sports daily believes that he will reveal all during a press conference on Monday, Valencian newspaper Las Provincias believes that the deal is already sealed and the first order of business for Soriano will be to convince David Villa to stay with Los Che.
It has been reported that the newly installed owner has already contact ‘El Guaje’ over the past few weeks to inform and reassure him that there’s a new project in place which will be built around the superstar striker.
Soriano also went on to affirm that not only will the squad’s other key figures such as David Silva and Juan Mata be retained, but the club will also reinforce the team with high-profile signings to mold a competitive side.
Villa has reportedly agreed personal terms with Barcelona and has already set his mind on a move to the Camp Nou, regardless of the latest development at the Mestalla.
Las Provincias quoted sources close to the player saying, “He knows clearly that he has to leave Valencia. He needs to play Champions League football and to win titles and he is aware that Barca is the best option for him."
The paper also speculates that the new chief will target Javier Mascherano, the Liverpool midfielder, as his first big-name signing. shocked

Manchester City Set To Sign Bayern Munich's Lucio
As the price for John Terry sky-rockets, the Eastlands side have turned their attentions to the Brazilian captain.
This morning Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti attempted to put an end to speculation linking John Terry with a move to Manchester City by telling them that he is not available at any price, but it appears City have a contingency plan in the form of Bayern Munich star Lucio.
According to The Daily Mail, Lucio is willing to listen to offers due to fears he is not in trainer Louis van Gaal's plans for next season. As a result, the 31-year-old has attracted the attention of Manchester City, who could bring him to Eastlands for just €7 million.
The Brazilian is also being followed by Inter Milan, who are also in the market for a centre-back. Negotiations have been ongoing with Chelsea for Ricardo Carvalho, but they appear to have broken down after a fee could not be agreed, and the English tabloid reports that the Nerazzurri have turned their attentions to Lucio.
The central defender made his name in Europe with Bayer Leverkusen, before joining Bayern Munich in 2004. He has made 84 appearances for the national side, and won the World Cup in 2002. His latest triumph, achieved as captain, was leading his side to the Confederations Cup in South Africa in June.

Yes if we sign Nsofor next season then you would have to re-adjust the OP again.
As long as your post is the first on the thread, and we are restricted to having only one thread, then it is your responsibility to keep the OP relevant to current events, so as to attract the other fans.
If you feel that would be too much wahala, you can simply ask for the thread to be deleted, and the mod or anybody else would create a replacement.
The fact that a thread for a club like real madrid has less than 150 post in a year, points to something being very wrong. I only gave my suggestions on how I feel we could correct it and get other fans involved.
Even the thread for Tottenham has almost 10x that amount of posts. or do spurs have more fans than madrid? undecided
Most don't even know there is a Real madrid fan thread.
Anyways, suit your self

What people say gives you a second opinion on things and is always a valuable perspective. One should learn not to look at the person criticizing, but to evaluate the basis of criticism for opportunities to improve.

I am a bit clueless as to what issues you might have with the new signings. The whole idea for me is to have the title and OP reflect the club and associated current events.

I actually agree with Jalether a bit.
While Cech is till a very good goal keeper, since his return from the head injury, he has been far less than his exceptional self, at times going as bad as having barthez moments.
I am actually worried for him, and hope the medical guys didn't miss anything.
PoliticsRe: This Is How Nigeria May Treat Biafrans Who Remain In Nigeria by biina: 10:54pm On Jul 05, 2009
It seems Bialegend feels they are going to eat their cake and have it.
If Biafra secedes from Nigeria, they would no longer have any interests or influence in Nigeria, and will be treated like any other African country (if not worse).
Your ability to maintain businesses in Nigeria would be at the discretion of the Nigerian government, and, if all the allegations are true, I doubt they would be accommodating,
The influence of the developed countries comes from colonization and the differences in the level of development. That would not apply in the case of Biafra.
Every country reserves the sovereign right to kick out any foreigners from it shores and even allowing you to have an embassy.
The most you can do is to in turn ban Nigerians from Biafra, any thing else is simply an implicit declaration of war.
PoliticsRe: Group Opposes Sale Of Nitel by biina: 8:18pm On Jul 05, 2009
In Nigeria, I can only think of the NNPC joint ventures, where NNPC has 60% but the oil company is the operating partner, yet its a different sector, and essentially a different ball game from the Nitel situation.

Even without precedence, I think their is enough merit to the argument to give it a try, as opposed to the failed privatizations that has been recurring with Nitel.
PoliticsRe: Group Opposes Sale Of Nitel by biina: 7:55pm On Jul 05, 2009
The quickest to come to mind would be Deutsche Telekom of Germany, which was created in 1996 from the 'privatization' of the government owned Deutsche Bundepost. The government still holds like 30% stake in the company.

China's main telecom companies are all state run, but that is hardly a good template given the government system in china.

One could also look at BTs gradual privatization, with the initial sale in 1984 being of only 50.2%, with the rest being sold a decade later.

ElRazur:
I was going to post something along those lines before.

The problem here is while I agree with you, most things work upside down in Nigeria. The government currently runs and owns nitel and what do they have to show for it? Like someone rightly pointed out in my opinion, it is a front for embezzling money. Private sector should be allowed to come in for the short run. A government intervention may however be needed to avoid exploitation in the long run.

Mobile phones is a good example that fits into this - Before privatisation, how many people had mobile phone in Nigeria? But look at how the changes came in fast and quick once it was left to the hands of private companies.
That why I suggested that government be a majority share holder, and not just the federal givernment, but also state governments. For example , we can have 20% held by FG, 31% held by the states, and the rest held by the public (you could actually limit the government shares if one pegs the total number of shares any entity can control directly or by proxy) .

I think something similar would also be viable for NEPA, though with a bit of 'regionalization' at the generation and distribution levels, while the transmission is maintained by a single national entity.

We can't on the excuse of our history of upside down implementations take decisions that we know are inherently flawed. I prefer we take the right decision, and then worry how to carry it out properly. I think the system can work if enough checks and feedback are incorporated.
PoliticsRe: Group Opposes Sale Of Nitel by biina: 5:53pm On Jul 05, 2009
I think the aim should be to make Nitel autonomous, and not necessarily privatize. It should be run like any other company, except with the government being majority shareholder.
A pure capitalist/market driven industry has severe long term short comings, as it will always head towards a monopoly or oligarchy, which is usually bad for the consumer.

The move would be unethical and unfair on the valencia management.
Creditors are like hyenas, and if left to them, they would sell valencia bit by bit to recoup as much money as they can.
I would rather they restrict their negotiations to the club management and player, while letting the management deal with their creditors, and not involve people who are less interested in the sport.
Abi na valencia go first owe money? A few good runs in the champions league and they would be back healthy.
So why would they try to bring external pressure on the club to accept a bid that is lower than the clubs evaluation of the player.
A move that may catalyze the failure of the club.

Barcelona To Make Official Offer To Valencia For David Villa Via Bancaja
The Blaugrana are set to lodge a formal offer to the Mestalla offices for ‘El Guaje’.
Valencia and their president, Manuel Llorente have spent the past few days bluntly denying rumours that they are currently engaged in negotiations to sell David Villa to Barcelona.
That has largely to do with the fact that the Blaugrana have yet to table any formal bids, which they are now ready to do, according to various reports in Spain.
Both Sport and El Periodico believe that Barca will make an official offer of €40 million plus Keirrison (on loan) and Martinn Caceres. It is believed, however, that the Catalan giants will not submit their proposal directly to Los Che. Instead, they will go through Bancaja, the financial institution currently overlooking Valencia’s debt, which has now reportedly amounted to €547 million.
Barca are hoping that the organisation will pressure Valencia to accept the deal

as the Mestalla outfit have frequently persisted that they want more than €40m in cash for Villa without any player swaps included in the agreement.
It has been reported that ‘El Tricampeon’ have already agreed personal terms with ‘El Guaje’ in a deal worth €7.5 million per year for five seasons
