But na true talk, dis one wey arsenal dey tight fisted like say na dem go first build stadium. Ijebu suppose get limit, haba!
The sad thing is that if you guys dont win this season, a lot of those small boys e.g. cesc will start leaving. You can't expect them to keep laboring while their mates are winning trophies, BDO, and WPOY.
To worsen situation, the likes of ManCity and Aston Villa will soon buy their way to the top, relegating arsenal to the UEFA cup or intertoto grin

Now with Benzema going to madrid, and Villa refusing to leave spain, ManU need to concentrate on Eto, as that is the only rpoven striker availbel to them.
They need to act fast before Man City starts acquiring a reputable squad which would give them more credibility to attract others.

Huntelaar would be a nice signing for ManU, but doing business witrh Madrid means that madrid will make sure they get back a good fraction of the CR80. ManU should have included him in the deal for Ronaldo.

Villa has only Barca as an option to go to, and if Eto doesnt leave, I dont see how barca can afford him. Valencia blundered in not selling him to madrid and they also bleeped up ManU in the process, cos if Villa had gone to madrid, ManU would have gotten benzema.

Poor Guiza's chance of going to valencia has been diminished.

Aguero wouldnt be a bad buy for united, but I dont think he is the kind of player they need and wouldnt come cheap.

Ibrahimovic would be too expensive for SAF.

The other targets that would be of interest going forward  are Silva and Ribery. Unfortunately Madrid is likely to get one of them as well (likely Ribery, though I prefer silva)

The way this is going, Madrid might end up with the last laugh, as at the end their existing players like Robben would become quite attractive.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Champions Of England! by biina: 2:47am On Jul 02, 2009
Ronaldo is no longer the small fish in a tiny pond in manchester, he is now with the big boys in the biggest club, where being WOPY is not a license to celebrity status (unlike at ManU where dey never see am before cheesy)
There is no way he is going to be the center of attraction at Madrid. If any body is, it is going to be Kaka.
Kaka was Perez's main signing, CR was essentially a Calderon project.
Madrid delayed the unveiling of Ronaldo to maximize the publicity and marketing returns from the Kaka unveiling, and was not a choice by Ronaldo.
If Ronaldo doesn't deliver, he will get benched, but I think he will be fine given the level of talent he would be playing with.
At madrid, 80 million na beans. Madrid has the top 4 record transfers!, while ManU most expensive signing is 10th placed berbasoft.

As to benzema, I like how all the manU fanboiz are now condemning him.
He is definitely expensive at 35M euros (dont think he is worth more than 25M at the moment, but thats is Aulas for you), but he is definitely a better buy than berbatov (the return of Kanoute), and has the potential to become a world class finisher. SAF was willing to pay much more for him than the 35M. So unless you think SAF is senile, Benzema is better than the current striking options at ManU (except rooney IMO)

Madrid might not win a single trophy next season, but I guarantee that everyone (including all the 'manu fans' who we know are closet madrid fans) will be watching us. grin

Sorry am in a middle of a gaming session - playing someone one line and they wont wait for me.

I am saying "I would love to think. . ." because there is no way such acts would have been passed without consideration for the very thing we are discussing now.
Not exactly what I was hoping for (as it did not link the slavery to any specific religion or system of government), but it does raise a serious question on the definitions of slavery and human trafficking, as not everyone that is smuggled is against their will.
The subject of the video doesn't seem to be a slave in the traditional sense of it, but more like a victim of a forced marriage (as she said she repeatedly ran back to her family who brought her back).
Still it is sad that humans can still treat another being so poorly.

I suppose it depends on what camp you are on. smiley

A few nation in Africa still have a systematic form of slavery still going on. The government largely turns a blind eye to this. It is a well known issue with nations having black Africans and Arab-Africans as her citizens

This issue have been discussed before and from what I can recollect, the government and religion institution have all been implicated.
Could you please point me to the discussion.
The problem of human trafficking is not correlated to the system of government or religion as you propose, as I cant remember san francisco being in an islamic state or under a dictatorship, yet it is a prime hub for human trafficking.

I would love to think an extensive research and consultations on many levels was probably carried out. From where I stand, how hard would it be for a nation to implement those basic standards? To be fair, a nation as standard should have laws against trafficking. If this is lacking, then it is a fair move to deemed then probably "guilty" of flouting the basic laws. Or do you not agree? At least, this would politically motivate them to do something about what is perceived as a lax in their own laws [i.e offending nations]
you 'would love to think' and 'probably' are not phrases that ensconce confidence.
The fact that I dont have laws specifically directed at human trafficking could simply be because I have other indirect laws (like against prostitution). Yet my grouse is with using the fact that the US does not have adequate access to the efforts by the government to mean that there is a lack of it, or that the crime is engendered.

I personally would prefer a report based on figures on source, transit, and destination cities of human trafficking means, and not some compliance with an act, which does not really tell us where the problem is and how bad it is.

TIER 1
Countries whose governments fully comply with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act’s (TVPA) minimum standards

TIER 2
Countries whose governments do not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards, but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards

TIER 2 WATCH LIST
Countries whose governments do not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards, but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards AND:
a) The absolute number of victims of severe forms of trafficking is very significant or is
significantly increasing; or
b) There is a failure to provide evidence of increasing efforts to combat severe forms of trafficking in persons from the previous year; or
c) The determination that a country is making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with minimum standards was based on commitments by the country to take additional future steps over the next year

TIER 3
Countries whose governments do not fully comply with the minimum standards and are not making significant efforts to do so

so are you arguing that those Muslim countries should have been given a 1?
What in the above makes them not to deserve an f ?
[/quote]Watch the name calling. I have not stated anything that is untrue, and so I don't see what warrants the accusation.
English language is not as difficult as you make it seem. I said people with bad relations with the US are likely to end up in TIER 3, and NOT that all people in TIER 3 have bad relations with the US.
e.g.
The Government of Iran does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking, and is not making significant efforts to do so. Lack of access to Iran by U.S. Government officials impedes the collection of information on the country’s human trafficking problem and the government’s efforts to curb it.
and thus Iran ended up in TIER 3 undecided

With all your assertions, you are yet to state how non compliance with an act equates to being guilty of the crime as you imply in your posts.

Take time to read the over view of the act and tell me if it is not reasonable.

You surely do not expect the result to be bang on for every nation? The illustration provided as a result of this act is meant to be an indicator, not something that should give full details simply because not every trafficking case would even be recorded or known. Again, being a US initiative, do not mean it is biased in anyway from where I stand. This is about trying to do and give a voice to the victims, let us not over look that in the midst of "oh it is a US initiative".
It is not about it being a US initiative, but rather the leap from non compliance with an act, to being guilty of a crime. Its like saying the US not supporting the world court makes them the number one offender of war crimes.

Please read the classification methods:

TIER 3: Countries whose governments do not fully comply with the minimum standards and are not making significant efforts to do so
Trafficking Victims Protection Act: Minimum Standards for the Elimination of Trafficking in Persons http://www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/tiprpt/2009/123142.htm

Countries with poor relations with the US are almost certain to fall in TIER 3, irrespective of the level of human trafficking involved.

The fact that the classification is based on a country's compliance with a US act, raises a question of objectivity in classification of countries with less cordial relationships with the US e.g. N. Korea, Cuba and Iran.
The classification says little of the actual level of human trafficking this countries are involved in, and thus going from compliance with a US initiative, to being guilty of human trafficking is too long a stretch IMO.

The hubs for human trafficking are mostly in developed countries. Even in europe the main sources are from the former eastern bloc countries, with destination being the more developed countries of France, Italy, Netherlands. Even India has been classified as a key passing hub for human trafficking.

I think Valencia is an ok buy for ManU. He is definitely not for the big games, but should be a good tool against the lower premiership clubs like wigan ( grin )and co.
I dont see him as one of 'ManU's best 11' in his first season, unless SAFf is primarily focused on the carling cup, but he should be a good enough player to have in the rotation.

ManU's pursuit of Benzema is not the best option IMO, as Aulas will skin SAF for as much of the CR 80 mil, as he can get. Benzema is nowhere worth the 40M price tag Aulas is angling for, but he will likely get it with Madrid helping to drive the prices up. ManU would stand a good chance of landing eto though, and I think that would be better value for money.

At under $20M, Dani Guiza might be the bargain striker of this summer.

Not a bad signing for SAF, but he really needs to address his striking options.
Aulas is a tanner and would skin alive any club that comes for Benzema.
I think ManU should try luring eto, as that might be a club that is too good for samuel to turn down.

Barca tried getting rid of him last summer, and yet he came thru for them again this year, but guess what? the dunces wanna sell him again.
He is the best finisher in the squad, and I would take him ahead of Villa for their system of play.
He should see out his contract, and leave for free. This clubs need to learn that they are not God.
I wonder if his skin color has anything to do with it, as I doubt yaya is being treated that well too. He has a buyout clause of $100M when his salary was $2M till recently.
Bayern got their dues with ballack, holding on to him when he wanted to leave, and then trying to sell him when he ad only one more season. He left for chelsea on a bosman.

You cannot put a control on players salary and transfers without also controlling the source of income. Either you run a free market system or you control everything. You cannot have bayern essentially getting a free stadium, while Madrid can negotiate individual TV rights, and some small clubs not allowed to play european games in their own stadia.

The conditions vary in the different league, and unless such rules are first successfully implemented on the domestic scene, you cannot seek such on the international stage. Bayern cannot be cash bullying other teams in the bundesliga, and turn around to cry foul when they in turn get bullied in Europe by the likes of Madrid, Chelsea, and ManU.

I wonder how they would determine the right figure to capthe fees.

The only thing I feel is needed is for transfer fees, salaries, and buy out clauses to be proportional. It is absurd for a player like toure to have a buyout clause of $100M, which exceeds the total amount of money the club would pay him for his services till the end of his contract (the guy used to be on $2M with a $60M buyout clause). Also the buyout clause should be pro-rated with the time remaining on the contract.

Tell me about the EPL's records in the 2 UEFA competitions
In the last 5 UCL both clubs had 4 entries

Liga: 2 in knock out stages (0 topped their group); 0 in QF; 0 in SF; 0 in Final
EPL teams were better

4/5 seasons EPL teams were better in the UCL.

Granted that the UEFA cup success of Sevilla cannot be rignored, but using the UEFA cup to assess the strength of a league becomes dubious, cos while the UCL features the best of each league, the entrants to the UEFA cup are a more diverse collection, and also include those teams who failed to make an impact in the UCL, and the wierd one leg affair used in the group stages makes the indices more questionable.

2008/09 - There were more EPL clubs at every stage of the knockout rounds (3 v2 in R32) with 1 EPL club getting to the QF, and no La Liga team progressing beyond round of 32. EPL were better
2007/08 - There were same number of clubs in R32, 3 EPL v 1 Liga in R16, 1 Liga progressed to QF with nine from EPL. Tied
2006/07 -  There were more LA liga clubs at every stage of the knockout rounds (3 EPL v 4 La liga in R32, 2 EPL v 4 Liga in R16) leading to an all La liga final. La Liga were the better teams
2005/06 - There were equal or more LA liga clubs at every stage of the knockout rounds with sevilla winning the final final. La Liga were the better teams
2004/05 - There were more La liga clubs in the R32 (5 v 2) but same for subsequent rounds, and were all eliminated by the QF. Tied

2/5 La liga were the better team

Overall EPL is the stronger league

Premier League - City make Eto'o 'stratospheric offer'
Samuel Eto'o could be on his way to Manchester City after Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed the Premier League club had made the striker a "stratospheric offer".
Speculation has been rife about where Eto'o will be next season as, with his contract set to expire next summer, Barca were keen to either tie him to a new deal or cash in on the Cameroon striker.
Reports suggest the Catalan giants have accepted a 30 million euro bid from City and Laporta believes the temptation of a mega salary would prove too much for Eto'o.
"Eto'o has a stratospheric offer from City, which would convert him into the best paid player in the world," he told Catalan radio station iCat FM. "It's starting to become clear that he has this monster offer. He wants to stay but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse. If Eto'o accepts this stratospheric offer we will have to bring in someone."
Eto'o contributed 36 goals last season as Barca claimed an unprecedented Primera Division, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble.
Should the 28-year-old leave the Nou Camp, Barca would likely step up their efforts to land Spain and Valencia striker David Villa.

With Barry and Robinho already on the books, and Tevez and Eto likely coming in, Man City might become a force to reckon with in the EPL sooner rather than later. 'Big Four' might soon become 'Big Five'. Though I feel they need to fire Hughes.

I am not sure how they came about the 10% figure, and I think the deadline is too soon, but given the political problems in Nigeria, I think it is good to limit exposure of banks to the government.

debosky:
going by that daft assertion, the EPL is better than any league in Europe given their CL finishes for the past 5 years.
The EPL is presently the best league in Europe, else which league is? The other choices would be La liga and Serie A.
As good as la liga and serie A are, they havent been as successful as the EPL teams in Europe.
Barca's white washing of madrid last season showed that barca was not a true reflection of La liga.
Liverpool manhandled Madrid, while ManU's and Chelseas manhandling of the serie A elites buttresses the strength of EPL as reflected by the UEFA coefficients

Nice game fro the US boys. They still lack the individual player that can single handedly turn the game for them, but have improved a lot in their technical approach to the game.

Dunga has developed a balanced system for brazil (unlike in 2006 when either of Ronaldo or Adriano shoul have been dropped for a midfielder), but the fact that the team seem to be built for counter attacking is always evident when they go behind, as they struggle to break the opponent down.

I feel their best lineup is that which finished the game i.e with Alves as a make shift left back, and Elano as RM. They need more consistent players in those two slots but I feel they should have at least one of Alves or Elano in the starting lineup cos of their set piece abilities.

Ramirez and Santos are far from Worldcup 11 material IMO, and would really need to improve before then. Luisao was also not too impressive, though he seemed to get better as the game progressed.

I have never been a fan of Fabiano as a top striker, but his performance in this tournament is giving me second thoughts.

It was a shame that we didnt get to see Brazil v Spain, but still a great tournament.
