I dont use any detergent. I only use soft cloth and water. If its dust i use 1 bucket of water and i drive a really big car

Same here, I've been doing so for years now, I've never had to consider respraying any of the cars I used.
Car Talk / Re: See How The Range Rover Has Evolved Over The Years by billy187(m): 9:19am On Apr 19, 2018
I think the third gen started around 1994. The one that you have mentioned as a '94 is an earlier model (late 80s, earlier 90s maybe?). Otherwise, nice compilation.
Car Talk / Re: A Man 25 Years In Mechanic Repairs Cannot Detect An Issue For Over A Month, why? by billy187(m): 9:14am On Apr 19, 2018
I agree with baconline on this, experience isnt always directly proportional to knowledge. This is even more true for cars, where the underlying technology changes exponentially every year. Technology that run cars 25 years ago is remarkably different from what runs modern vehicles. I think you should cut your mechanic some slack wink

Car Talk / Re: Today, I Found Out For Sure That, Connecting Radiator Fan Directly Is Not Good ! by billy187(m): 6:40pm On Mar 18, 2018
obmade:
Ok guys. So today is the first time I ever did enjoy driving my car since I got it in November 2017! I want to say a Huge ‘Thank you’ to all the contributors on Nairaland who give quality advice on Car Matters. I have silently been reading, reviewing and correlating different contributions and these have helped me in recognizing anomalies that could be present in a car.

Ikenna always talks about Lions, lol (Peugeot)! Mine is just a Kitty Cat! How do I know? This is because, today we helped him to become calm . . . Now he purrs very nicely, instead of the previous distressed roaring (when he is not a Lion).

I drive a 2009 Corolla (US Spec). When I got it, I didn’t know the ride’s radiator fan was connected directly (that is, they by-passed the fan control module). Every time I start the vehicle, the engine would roar to life, and keep roaring (I diagnosed and got error codes saying “timing is over-advanced”). Of cos it was over advance! Unlike non-sensor cars that you could just adjust the throttle cable, tinker here and there to get the right setting, I didn’t want anyone tinkering here and there on my Corolla, lol. I asked mechanics for explanation towards possible solution till I got tired. Then I encountered Nairaland contributors (Worldwide famous cc Gazzuzz, cc Ikenna, and many other popular resourceful contributors). I learned here that by-passing the ‘fan control module’ is not a good thing to do (Meanwhile, 96.888888888% of our mechanics (As you guys funnily call them “Kazeems”, lol) believe they are saving the world when they advise motorists to trash thermostat and connect fan directly!) That direct connection had been my problem all along! At car start, my engine always struggles to attain optimum temperature for efficient performance, but the constantly running fan won’t let it! In order to counteract the fan, the engine would trigger an advanced timing in order to get the engine to heat up and attain optimum temperature. This in turn caused my car to roar, guzzle fuel and make me feel dissatisfied overall.

Today, I decided I would get a good electrician to revert the status quo. Guys, the eleco who came highly recommended turned out to be a KAZEEM! He started with the whole ‘As your fan be, na the best. Naija temperature too hot!’ I tried to get him to see reason, but he argued on behalf of Africa! Two other people I met were stuck on the same false argument. Eventually, I got one to do my wish . . . And Voila, Advanced Timing is no more!

Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate you guys. And please, there’s got to be a way that the sea of unqualified mechanics can be salvaged, on behalf of the unsuspecting Nigerian car owners. Maybe, if mechanic associations exists, group training can be given on workings of recent cars! Just saying.
Glad to see you have found the light, I had mine reverted many, many moons ago and much like you I had to go through like 4 mechanics before I got one that begrugingly rewired it. I really wonder why most mechanics defend shallow beliefs so dogmatically. Frankly, I find it quite frightening grin

Car Talk / Re: The 1million Miles 2007 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 (video) by billy187(m): 1:49pm On Aug 14, 2017
Now that's great build quality, no two ways about that! Lots of cars start having awful power train problems north of 200000 miles.

The owner, I hear was gifted a brand new truck after Toyota bought his for research purposes.

Great photos billy187, this is a 1953 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, has been in Ghana from new.

Would it be possible to get original size photos for my archive please - I am researching Rolls-Royce and Bentley owned in Africa.

Thanks Wayne.

Sure thing..I'll send them to you as soon as I figure out Nairaland's cryptic method of sending emails.

Car Talk / Re: How Economical Is The ⛽ Consumption In Renault Cars? by billy187(m): 8:30pm On Jul 07, 2017
The Megane for this model has no less than 8 different engines, some diesel, others petrol. You gotta be much more specific to get any feasible answer.

I would advise that, armed with a pic of the car's engine....you use the net to determine what engine is in it....heck, whiles you're there you could figure it's consumption too.

Cheers!

The car wasn't hit by any other car.

The cause of this accident can only be overspeeding. There are many Lagos drivers that believe they are one of a kind. That they can drive for the universe.

True, true....combine that and the haphazardly fixed up accident vehicles that have polluted the second - hand market.

Yes Honda are notorious for ball joint failure but it doesn't occur without signs, so mom chalant drivers have no business with Honda.

And some of the pictures u posted are not even Honda, let the second picture from this quote, it's not a Honda.

1. Toyota 4runner
2. Toyota Tacoma
3. Toyota tundra
4. Lexus Gs

True...I can see a Chrysler Sebring in there.Frankly, I've seen waaaay more late 90s- early 2000s Tacoma and 4runners with such ball joint issue than Hondas.

Folks think ALL Westerners have great maintenance culture. Whiles it might be better than Naija maintenance culture ....there are always those oyinbos that tend be terrible at maintenance- the results of which op has posted here.

A Citroen DS- in the United States? I'd be darned.

You know, if Citroen was still as serious with technological breakthroughs as they were when they made the DS, we would have had telepathic Citroens by now grin

No it has an electrical fault, so the owner decided to leave it on the road.

I'm quite sure it was a lack or fuel..I saw the owner show up later with 2 gallons of fuel.

billy187, out of curiosity how is this old 1950's beautifully crafted vehicle still up and running, how is it serviced and how are the parts gotten if any of the parts go kaput? cc:Denn,GAZZUZZ,

I've wondered myself but then I won't be surprised the owner might have that one veteran mechanic that knows the car like the back of his hand. Parts, I bet would be ordered or fabricated overseas. All this would be at ridculous expense of course.

But then we are probably talking about someone who has managed to own a Rolls Royce for longer than Nigeria has existed, so I bet costs ain't a problem.

I am so happy to see a comrade of similar interest. I have 1.6 zetec se engine. I have had mine for close to 5yrs now. love it to bits.

fuel millage is very very insulting and sweet to the extent ppl keep asking me

" se u no go buy fuel ni?" and "are u sure ur fuel gauge dey work properly sha" grin grin grin

And all dat time i had it same tyre still running. I bought some parts to mode it will be very interesting..

i want to change cabin air filter & seal soon next to de windscreen - lets keep this alive and discuss on this lovely car.

We definitely should! I do have the 2.0 zetec but then I always smile to the bank as fuel economy is awesome. Like cheaper-than-taking-a-bus-awesome! grin Or maybe it's because it's predecessor had a 5.7 litre v8 grin

Noted boss.
It's a Honda CRV 2004 model

That's a great choice for a first car- those things when taken care of, run pretty much forever grin ; I'm even looking for one for my sister.

If you dont mind me asking, whats the mileage on your baby? For a 13 year old car you might also have to look out for those stuff the manufacturer recommends are changed at a particular age/ mileage. Stuff like rubber gaskets, tubing, timing belt, water pump, in your case (most likely) differential juice, etc etc..

Keep the rubber side down!! wink

i have one too. nice car .....very very nice car

That's quite observant of you! I've had her since 2012 and have no plans of selling her anytime soon. Very fun, reliable and cheap transportation- the only thing I detest is the compact engine bay; working in it always results in horrible bruises! grin

I really like the colour of yours too! What engine have you got in there?

Car Talk / Re: 5 Seriously Annoying Things Nigerians Do After An Accident by billy187(m): 12:56pm On Jun 22, 2017
True talk here, especially about those jerks that turn accident scene into photo studio but I'll go out on a limb and add another point that might contrast our last point a bit- helping victims too much.

Some people, in their over-enthusiasm to help victims actually harm them even more. They'd rush to yank the victims out of the car and inflict much more serious injuries had they just waited or even undergone first aid training.

I read the story not too far back over here of a lady who had her legs crushed by a container. In their rush to free her, someone quickly chopped her legs off. She inevitably bled to death. cry The number of cases I know of people that ended up with lower paralysis due to manhandling is awfully high too.

It is not difficult to learn first aid skills to use during an accident...there are so many resources on the net nowadays, heck: your community Red Cross will be more than happy to teach you!

Has lots of resemblance with Sanusi's Rolls Royce Silver Wraith. Maybe it's the same model, but definitely not the same year.

I'll say 1950s. It's guess work, don't copy my book.

Most definitely a Silver Wraith. I did think it was a Phantom IV ( which looks awfully similar) but it fits the Silver Wraith name perfectly. I think the smaller headlights will put it circa 1958 ish?

I bet it belongs to Royalty because of the shealthed flag and the unique (not customized) number plate, which I've blotted out. I'm in Kumasi, Ghana so it's mostly likely part of the fleet of the Asantehene.

The make of the car is quite obvious already, but the model and most especially the year, I would leave to the vintage experts on this page.

My upholstery Guy gave me an inhouse quote N50,000 and 1week to get the seats done, I will check owode onirin, ladipo in Mushin, and onyigbo in yaba to see if I can a complete stock interior. I will weigh the prices and decide on next line of action. Patience is not one of my many virtues sad.

Will try and strike out all the minor stuff on the undone list this week.

it's amazing how a set of new headlights and a grill give a new lease of life to the face of your car. Great job so far!

That is a toyota haice bus and looks like it was bought fairly used(direct tokumbo).
It is worth that amount! Go check the price around before saying thrash!
The brand new goes for close to 20m!
That bus is worth 3m!

I patiently scrolled through, looking for someone that at least knows what he's talking about. I guess you are the first person I met. Most of the loudmouths here have probably never bought car air freshener, let alone a car.

Car Talk / Re: 10 Of The Lowest Rated Cars In 2017 – Consumer Reports by billy187(m): 10:48am On Jun 19, 2017

Surprised to see Toyota in bottom 10...but after reading I don't think it should be there. They said very good off road.... ruff and tumble truck... I think that's exactly what buyers wanted... a simple bare bones pick up that they can take anywhere and treat anyhow. ..while the raters are worried about cabin noise and comforts.

The Tacoma is a good truck by many standards. But then I think it was last in it's class 'cos it didn't seem to match up to it's competitor(s) in overall experience.

I think it is also worth mentioning that it went up against very few competitors- the Colorado and the Frontier (that's if the Frontier is still being made) so the lowest rating might not mean it's as crappy as hell.

I do find it suprising that it managed to be less reliable than them though.
