Car Talk / Re: 7 Reasons Nigerians Will Buy This N160m 2017 Bentley Bentayga SUV. by billy187(m): 1:12am On Jan 09, 2017
It's not the fastest or most powerful SUV for sale today...that honour goes to the 50 million naira Tesla model X P100D: which makes 760hp and can do 0-60 in 2.5 secs - a race between the two would end up with an embarrassment to the Bentley.

is the Ford made of plastic ? Everything from bonnet to rear thee crumbled completely angry

On the contrary, the 2004 Ford Focus (pretty much same body style) offered adult occupants full 5 star rated protection, according to Euro NCAP. For perspective, the Toyota corolla, Honda Civic, VW Golf, Nissan Pathfinder, Mercedes C class, Honda Accord and BMW X5 of the time were all awarded 4 stars, while the Nissan Almera and Hyundai Accent managed only 1.5 stars.

Now armed with this info...imagine how any of these cars would have fared at such speed...the less said for occupants, the better sad

Well, funny thing- I can't really put a finger on it. But then I prefer getting around by driving my jalopy much more to being driven around in an S Class.

Perhaps it's the content I feel from having absolute control over a metallic one tonne monster that feeds on dead dinosaurs and is propelled by little explosions. grin

Car Talk / Re: 15 Tips To Prolong The Life-span Of Your Vehicle. by billy187(m): 8:56pm On Jan 01, 2017
SirJeffry:
To avoid all these wahala, buy a brand new car from a manufacturer.

I have 2015 Avalanche and Chevrolet company reminds me when it's due for maintenance so also my 2016 camry. Infact, Toyota gave me mileages to bring it in.

If you aren't a mechanic, never touch your car to avoid complications.

Strange, I thought the last model year for the Avalanche was 2013.

With the free help you can get off the internet, I also find getting my own hands down and dirty to fix faults on my car extremely rewarding as well as a quite fun alternative to visiting a mechanic.

Car Talk / Re: 2009 Toyota Camry Vs 2009 Toyota Corolla For Uber by billy187(m): 7:47am On Dec 14, 2016
For an Uber cab I'd go for the Corolla as it's a bit more fuel efficient than the Camry.

Less trips to the fuel station means more of that sweet, sweet cash money to spend on stuff like your girlfriend's/wife's/random ladies Brazilian hair or MMM grin

Car Talk / Re: What Would It Take For You To Buy An African Car? by billy187(m): 7:36am On Nov 29, 2016
sultaan:
There is no such thing as African brand.

Innoson and almost all the rest are Chinese Assembled rebadged automobiles.

Just post the pic of the car label by the door frame and let us see the vin number(manufacturer and serial number)

http://global.innosonmotors.com/innoson-vehicle-manufacturing-ivm/

If you want a car made in your name, go to alibaba.com
Look for any car or truck you like
Order the specified minimum or what you need
if you have a special request like changing the grill and light, you can.

Get your import waiver, regular allocation of dollars, line of credit
Then call yourself a manufacturer which could be true by Nigerian standard.
IF your inventory is backed up you can resell your regular dollar allocation to keep business afloat since it is a lot easier to make 40% profit overnight at the parallel market.

The fact is those models are not exclusive so all the badging is removable, there is no engraved manufacturer or model name on any of the trims.
So if you remove the badge on the steering, back and front of the car it will be blank and you can call it anything you like.

If you think Ghana make Katanka, well they are like Innoson too

Phones / Re: 5 Very Important Things To Note Before Buying Any Phone by billy187(m): 5:42pm On Nov 13, 2016
prettyboi1989:
battery first, the rest follows. some might say sebi there is powerbank, fvck powerbanks cos u will hardly find the one with the exact capacity stated on its body. a 20,000 mah powerbank comes with half the capacity(10,000) in real sense of it. dont waste ur money buying an expensive phone that has 2500mah, guy ur ba3 will run down in 4hours on heavy usage. a phone with 4000mah plus can go 7hours plus on heavy usage.

I think the battery capacity of a phone is merely one of the factors that go into its actual battery life - how the phone manages it's power is another factor.

My Motorola G3 with a 2470mah battery makes pretty high 'screen on' numbers, and that's with both networks at full throttle, data and location always on ( I don't like getting lost grin ). It runs a pretty stock os, so without any heavy UI getting in the way, there's not so much battery drain.

.....And I've always been wondering why it's so easy to steal a Honda

You know, I drive the same car as a lady colleague (a generic gold- brown 2003 Ford Focus wagon). The only differences are the wheels- and of course, the license plates.I've got a good view of the parking lot so I usually park right next to her, just to watch her figure out which car is hers. It's something my evil, evil mind never gets tired of amusing itself with.

Yeah, I probably need fasting and prayers.

I'm in Ghana and it's seems the 2003-2008ish corollas are EVERYWHERE. The previous model is mildly common though they are slowly succumbing to old age. The mk3 Opel Astra is also a popular car here, especially among taxi drivers.

Car Talk / Re: Installing Speed Limiters In Vehicles Does Not Make Common Sense by billy187(m): 8:29am On Sep 01, 2016
MPVGoddess:
imagine being a passenger in the back seat of a speed limited hiace bus going downhill on Abaji Lokoja road at 100km and there is a semi behind you with failed brakes pounding his horn relentlessly.

We were coming down a steep and very long decline on I-80, just ahead of a big rig. Mind you, we were in a 4-cylinder Subaru Forester. He was suddenly right on our tail and started blasting his horn like mad. We quickly realized he had lost his brakes, so we floored it and were just barely able to stay ahead of him as we, and he, wove from one lane to the other at 100+ mph.

Other cars didn't really have time to react, which was just as well. Fortunately there wasn't much traffic, so we could maneuver, but there were too many cars to just pull into another lane an let him get by. He was driving so erratically that we were afraid he would hit us for sure if we pulled onto the shoulder. Staying ahead of him seemed the safest thing to do at the time.

At the bottom of the grade, his rig eventually slowed enough that he could get on the shoulder and let friction help his stop. I couldn't believe our Subaru could go that fast on its puny 4 cylinders. Thankfully it could.

And that is why I'm glad cars are capable of traveling at "illegal" speed.

Source: Aaron Percefull on Quora

Subaru makes some of the fastest 4 cylinder cars available.

It's kinda frightening to think what would have happened with a speed limiter- those poor fellows would have been merged into the truck's radiator!

There's a reason pretty much every other country thinks it's a dumb idea to put speed limiters on passenger cars
