Hey there! I was searching for a capable OBD reader to buy (scans are pretty darn expensive this side of the world-for me! ) and I came across this device (pic below) for only a naira equivalent of 7800. It looks too cheap to be true- basically cheaper than some scan jobs around here!I would like to ask, especially to those that happen to own one...what are its capabilities? limits? Does it detect engine issues? abs problems? airbags? Does it take real time info? I hope it ain't a fancy thing to reset the check engine light! Thanks in advance!

X6 ---'cos i've always felt the Gle is a copycat work......besides, the X6 looks pretty matured as compared to its awful looking predecessor. |
I would have gone with the mazda....it comes with one of the most fun manual trannys i've ever used! |
kingreign:I've never driven a Fortuner before- or even its corresponding Hilux ....so i don't know their turning radius-you might as well be right. However, my Focus is is pretty easy to maneuver....i'm pretty confident i can park it in that space.....as long as there's someone to yell "Oga! u don crash am ooo!!" ![]() |
Whoooaaa or wait, is that your tranny going? |
Must be the grandson of the guy that invented parallel parking ![]() |
tenry:pics pls!! thanks. |
mili3kid:Exactly bruh. Anyways, I drive an '03 Ford Focus SE wagon. She's pretty much stock and except for reversing all the 'tropicalization' the former owner did to her....its pretty much routine maintenance. |
I drive a Ford and its been very reliable. The sterotype around that Fords tend to break down at the slightest whim is pretty false. But I must be hasty to say they do not tolerate half-assed mechanical work- deviation from the manufacturer's recommendations can quickly turn them into your WORST nightmare! (ask my uncle!! )Most of us have terrible maintenance culture and so prefer jap mobiles...which are more tolerant of abuse. Thus demand is low...and that brings down the prices. Keeps them nice and cheap for us aficionados though |
Now that is one fine civic! |
Whizpeter:As long as its in your garage....move it out and we'll all be speaking volumes--at your funeral ![]() It seems like a collectors item though, this particular one is at the Lane Motor museum at Nashville, Tennesee- which is of course, in the US. Apparently the fellow asked for a drive of the worst car they've got; and they delivered! |
Siena:Much better as a collectors car; this thing is too damn risky to be a commuter's car |
What is the worst car ever made since man started attaching engines to chariots? You might think its one of those tetanus traps universities around tend to release now and then; or maybe its that terrible car of yours that spends more time at your neighbourhood kazeem's stop than in your driveway (coughs***land rover freelander). But then you'll be soo wrong. Introducing the 1951 hoffman. I will not say much; watch the youtube video in the link (a jalopnik review) below and I bet you'd pretty much agree! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y16ObVRvgOE

It's thread's like your's and Gazzuzz 's that make me really wish I were in Nigeria! My Focus will be hitting 200000 miles pretty soon and I'd have to do the routine maintenance for that milestone (timing belt, water pump etc, etc). I would also love to get someone who can actually fix my direct fan issue. It would have been great to watch it all come together online. Heck, I would have made the journey, if it weren't for those notorious naija police. ![]() |
d33types:I had a similiar problem a week ago...it ended up being the starter's wires to the terminal being frayed....fixed it up in 10 mins and now everythings golden |
koboko69:I think the early 2000 hondas actually had trans problems, especially the odyssey( http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/Odyssey/2002/) and the accord (http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/Accord/2002/). I lived in the suburbs and these were the standard means of getting around then. I definitely agree with the 'hondas are awesome factor'. Funny thing, I have a serious crush on the '05-09' odyssey and the accord known in nigeria as the ' discussion continues'. I dunno why I like a minivan that much, but ahh well........ ![]() |
I guess the best option will be to replace the entire oil pan- regardless the size of the leak. I bought my Ford focus from a guy that preferred "bandages" to replacement. It had a similiar oil leak problem; and informed me that he had welded the oil pan to no avail, and had since given up on the issue. I also noticed that the entire oil pan had been coated with epoxy as well. On scraping of this 'layer', I noticed the leak was from a tiny hole in the side. I quickly bought a new oil pan and the problem disappeared. My focus does not consume a drop of oil between changes. So just swap it out and prevent any headaches, bro. |
Is fowhit the same as epoxy? Are u refering to the oilpan? |
As for this, i will comment. I've lived in neighbourhoods with folks that mostly owned Hondas... I've never, ever seen this 'leg-pulling' thing that seems so popular for some reason. Trans problems? yes' but NEVER 'leg pulling!' The only 'joint' issues ive noticed were with german cars (vws especially) I think its a stereotypical belief- like American cars being unreliable and german cars being speed demons. |
redcliff:Quite true...Still very interested in what comes out! ![]() |
Ill be blunt: toyotas are more reliable than fords: on average. But you guys make ford look like a piston throwing, oil leaking rusty orgasm of a car, which is not the case! Ive been driving an '03 Ford focus for almost 4 years now and the problems that ive had can be all related to me foolishly buying a locally used 'tropicalized' car-and even those are few! So op, if you do go for that escape..id recommend a non locally used one.... oh...and some trivia.....My neighbour owns a Toyota Avensis and its been hell for him? How do I know? He joins me almost everyday to work! . Ps: I really cant see how a '15 camry looks better than a '15 fusion! most consumers sites seem to agree....but then opinions are like noses; everybody has one!! |
colossus2:whoooaaa....lol! |
I'd set the ball rolling... the best car I've ever owned is a 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback! It was ridiculously reliable, sold her with 250000miles on it! The full time Awd made it better offroad than most My next car might as well be a 2009ish outback- a tribute to my old trusty companion!
|
A lot of us have owned and driven alot of cars; from that awful jalopy with red L plates stuck on, to the mighty 'chariots' we refer to as our own. Some change cars on the slightest whim and others......well lets say are a little more loyal to their huge metallic projectiles. But in between there has always been that car that you owned/drove that stood out....the one that you couldn't wait to hop into on your daily commute to work/school/nowhere. If you've sold that car, your heart skips a beat anytime you see a similiar model puttering down the street. And if you've not sold it? Lets just say your great grand kids will definitely rep the back seat at some point! ![]() So enough of the boring rambling! What's the best car you have EVER owned/driven? |
This is a mistake I made when buying my present car, a I was moving from a Chevy Suburban that I had used in the US and I did not want people to ask why I'm downgrading from 4X4 to small car. It happened to be the first locally used car I bought and I had no idea of the concept of 'Tropicalization'. A while after I bought the car I took her for a scan and voala.........no thermo, fan relay error, dpfe sensor error: the works. I've managed to fix up the exhaust and thermo errors but nobody seems to know how to fix the botched up fan wiring. (one kazeem even claimed he'd attach it to pulley...like a rwd car!! I ran away sharply ).The cars runs pretty good (reaches optimal temp in 3 mins!)--except for the fact I cannot 'sneak' into the house with the noisy fans and the batteries I have to change every 2 years!! ![]() the Lesson: NEVER, never buy a car secretly! Nice one OP ![]() |
A Sec restore: now this is what I joined Nairaland for! I intended to do one earlier this year and document everything here; even found a specimen. Problem however is that the poor thing had been so kazeemized I had to sadly turn it down. It had a little carburrated engine scavenged from some car I couldn't even identify and the instrument dial was kaput. I did intend to restore to more stock form, however. I intended going for a deep blue like in your pictures with maybe some AMG rims + ash turn signals. All the best in your project! ![]() |
I've followed this thread since day one and I must say, lots of nairalanders certainly have death wishes!! Anyways, mine: Audi RS 7, 185mph, Autobahn..... Ha!! Just kidding! In all my years of driving....my fastest speed is ***drum roll*** 150kmph...In my old Ford Focus wagon- on some motorway in Ghana- but never again...the car could do more but naa...I prefer topping out at 110-120kmph. Yeah, I'm that annoying guy in the outer lane you race junkies almost rear end every now and then... ![]() |
I don't see what's awful about this write-up; actually find it quite funny! The wind-up-your-windows thing is actually an astute suggestion: if you're driving your own car. A while ago, I witnessed a phone being straight up snatched from a lady's suv. She had her windows wound down so the dudes just straight up walked to the car, snatched the phone and vanished into the crowd. Op...you might wanna post the rest here though, us cartalkers are pretty allergic to 'wild' links. |
apexquest:Up to? I guess its in there somewhere; 'cos it will take forever to reach midpoint if that was not the case |
apexquest:How long does it take for the gauge to reach midpoint? |
I'd probably reconsider buying a car with that pendant hanging over the rearview mirror too. ![]() |
