That you don't care about updates does not mean you'll not inform others about the problems they'll encounter when they try to flash theirs.

There were cases of bricked device when trying to flash official rom, so what is wrong in telling people what to expect? Someone here @scarr also wanted to get updates but was unable to flash his phone.

A lot of people use their phones for mobile banking and other related transactions and using a phone with a vendor rom increases security risk.
there's absolutely nothing wrong in informing people about possible problems they may encounter when trying to flash their devices.

on the other hand, telling people to "avoid a device" and saying the device is "not a finished product", just because some vendors installed vendor roms and some people are finding it difficult to go back to official rom is a bit far reaching.

there are a lot of vendors out there that install official roms or state the type of rom installed on a device eg xiaomi online store, so you know before buying. its also even possible to chat up a seller and request that you want an untouched device with the offical rom.

so if xiaomi makes a product, puts an official rom on it, and some vendors remove the rom and put thier own, how does that make the product an unfinished product?

the same thing happened when redmi note 3 snapdragon first came out. a lot of poeple where bricking their phones trying to revert to offical roms from vendor roms. there are so many unbricking guides for redmi note 3 on the internet. does that make redmi note 3 an unfinished product too? even till date as we speak, some redmi note 3 phones still ships with vendor roms from china, and till date, people are still bricking their redmi note 3 phone trying to change to official rom. it doesnt take anything away from the device

you are doing a great job on this thread and im sure even if people dont say it out loud, they do appreciate and respect your contributions. keep it up and keep it real.

if anyone here has bought the redmi 4, there's no need to be scared, its a good device. once its popular and out of china, global roms will be available and you can flash to to your hearts desire.

thanks, lotsa unappealing comments.. I will go for the Note 4 then.
I can also fish out for you lots of unappealing comments for the note 4 grin depending on the site or who is making the comment., especially considering we have a lot of people out there with a negative bias for MTK processors, lol. This does not mean the phone is not good.

Every single phone will have negative comments, as long as its not a general problem like the Samsung note 5 or hardware issue, you're good to go.

So because people are having issues flashing roms, it means the phone is not OK? I don't get your point o.

Not everybody cares about flashing or updating phones, they just want a phone that works.

I do not think the above is enough reason to discourage people from buying the phone Sir.

Even when redmi note 3 came out, people initially where having issues unlocking and flashing before better guides using edl modes came out.

There are good reviews by ordinary users out there, even opinions page on Gsmarena by ordinary users is not bad.

Personally I don't think a community full of geeks/flashers/rom tweakers is the best place to get a user opinion about a phone for a newbie.

It's like telling an average Nigerian guy or lady to go to xda-developers to get opinion before buying a phone.

Tell me the best phone in this planet that you will not find a flashing, tweaking or rom issues on any of those geek sites, yet the average user keeps on enjoying their phones

Yeah. So the wait may be longer than anticipated.

Anyways, people are different. For someone like me, I use a phone minimum of 2 years before changing, so I'd rather buy what I need now and enjoy it. Not on the lookout for the next best thing till another 2 years, lol

Hello House....
I want to advice all those that are gearing up for purchase of Xiaomi Phones to chill for another 2days as the Company are about to announce a ton of new devices, this devices could include a Mi Mix variant with a smaller display and probably a Mid-Ranger, and also there may be drop in price of current devices
follow the link below and enjoy
http://www.mi.com/en/events/ces2017-live/
Good advice,

If you're really sure of what you want, you can as well buy it and enjoy your device. From history, xiaomi are known for incremental updates except some few surprises.

The truth is things are not yet stable in Nigeria and exchange rate can fluctuate higher. So not taking a plunge now may be taking a huge risk.

Now, we can still purchase at rate of 320 / 325 per dollar, who knows what will happen tomorrow.

Even gtb and access bank may tow the line of other banks and cancel online transaction for naira card, which means you'll have to source dollars at N490 current rate.

Good to know both Sims supports 4g.

As per battery life, can you help us with more specifics as per your usage scenario and how long from 100% charged to fully drained.

So far, how is the battery life? All day, 2 days?

Is both sim supporting 4g or just sim 1?

thank you so much for your response... But something is nt clear here. I google the spec of both mi5 and mi max, but i notice the spec of mi max beat the one of mi5. Mi max has 64gig rom and 4gig ram with 4400mah as against 3000mah of mi5... I thought mi max wil be more expensive with that kind of spec. Please explain why mi5 is more expensive than mi max.
Thank you
Simple explanation is the processor powering the devices.

The mi5 is powered by a flagship purveyor processor while the MI Max is powered by a mid range processor.

There are other reasons, but the above is the major one.

Mi5 is a flagship device, MI Max is a mid range device

Actually, different phones have different strengths.
some last long on the internet while some are just more efficient playing videos.
Yes, you're correct, that's why I said its better one looks at the breakdown and pick what is important to you.

Cos the overall endurance rating may be based on a scale that may not matter much to you. For example, I don't do calls, so the talk time is not important to me but web browsing is.

Anyways, sometimes all these benchmarks are just to give people an idea. Gsmarena has come a long way with various fine-tuning of the endurance rating along the way, so it's not in itself perfect.

That's why sometimes it's good to look at different reviews to have a more balanced overall view

Gsmarena test isn't realistic for whatever reasons.

I followed them back then, thinking a Lumia 520 could actually last 6hrs browsing. grin
Don't mind then jare. The endurance rating could be funny sometimes.

Better to view the break down and pick what in important to you.

Imagine redmi note 3 has a higher endurance rating than redmi 4 prime.

From their break down.

Redmi 4 prime browsing 20hrs
Redmi note 3 browsing 12.55hrs

Redmi 4 video play. 9.48
Redmi note 3 video play 12.56

3g talk time. 29.15hrs
Note 3 3g talk time 21.41hrs

So looking at these, which do you think should have a better battery rating

Performance is noticeable when you multitask heavily not just gaming. I don't do games. You just stated why you prefer the Redmi 4. The Redmi note 3 has better screen to body ratio, even my redmi note 2 is better than the Redmi 4 in that aspect. The Redmi note 3 pro actually has a better battery. Check the endurance rating, 93H against 91H on gsmarena, bugs in recent Redmi note 3 pro is what is responsible for the less efficient battery performance people are complaining about.
I still doubt an average user will notice the performance difference even with multitasking. Don't under estimate the 625, it's almost equivalent to last year flash ship according to benchmarks.

As per battery, I prefer reviews that state SOT instead of just looking at Gsmarena endurance rating.

In a review, a 720p YouTube video was played via Wi-Fi at a measured screen brightness till the the phone went off. Note 3 got 10hrs SOT while redmi 4 prime got 14hrs SOT. Men, that 4hrs difference in huge by Nigeria standards o.

I agree both phones are great though and I'm tilting more towards note 3 SE

Unless you like 5 inch screens, you can't compare both in terms of performance, the redmi note 3 pro is the boss here.
But an average user won't notice the performance difference.

Probably only those into games and other hard core stuffs which I don't fall into that category.

Redmi 4 has better battery life, which cuts across all users, it has a better design, and Superior fingerprint sensor and I think the camera is somewhat better too than the that of the note 3.

The only ish is the 5inch screen size,. Hmmn

The problem with waiting for a better phone is that there will always be a better phone about to be released around the corner.

One may just end up waiting forever, lol.

Maybe xiaomi should just stick to making a few phones at longer intervals. Too many similar models leading to problem of choice for consumers.

No point in chatting with the seller, cos the seller will just tell you he has shipped so you should wait.

Would have to go for the note 3, because is what I'm using and very impressed
Of cause if you can afford it, it's advisable to go for the 3gb ram, cause only the operating alone would take a whole lot of space and would be very useful for future ROM upgrade
What's the battery life of the note 3 like. Especially total screen on time. Are you using Kenzo or Kate?

I'm torn between redmi note 3 and redmi 4 prime.

Xiaomi gurus in the house, which one do you think it's better.

Also I currently use a 2gb ram phone without any issues, will buying a 3gb ram phone make any meaningful difference? Or I should just stick to a 2gb xiaomi phone to save cost.

This is not new.

In secondary boarding school then, in the 80s, our provisions usually included canned jollof rice, baked beans and canned salad. All imported, I think made by Heinz

So it's possible to have canned Nigerian food.

Is there anyone who can assist me with this?
In this current climes, I doubt if it can ever be profitable using imported feed throughout, especially considering the price of fish is not commensurate to price of feed.

Your calculation is on point, I believe you just have to look for alternative/cheaper feed, probably go for local sinking pellets after a few weeks of imported/local floating

it is not all engineer that know how to correct high voltage, through avr, many just go and buy new one, and some times even the new one will drop to like
190-210 volt, not upto 220. but they will not know, voltage can be increase and decrease through the coil, or the avr.
am not just a mechanic,am also a REWINDER, i rewinde all types of coil, all type of Gen coil, anyting coil, anyting using copper wire, i think this is what make me differ frm order mechanic. then also, if i tell u am work on ELECTRONICS, u all will now say, jack off trade is master of noon, but am master in all this,
so bro let me come back to ur avr stuff, if ur mech says he will get another avr just let him get it, but my fear if the new one will be like the follow come avr.
Maybe you did not get my post.. .

I have already adjusted the voltage from the avr myself following your advice.

I was just letting you know what different mechanics said before I consulted you, and you just have me a simple solution that worked. Thanks again

the firing increasement does not ncrease the voltage of a gen with an AVR. allthough there are some applainces, that 240 will bw toomuch for,

the voltage can be reduce frm the AVR, if u can loose the avr out, there is a resistor with screw on the AVR, is there u can reduce it.
Any guide on location of the avr? Thanks

Was able to figure it out. I adjusted the voltage to 230v succesfully.

One Generator Mechanic said it can't be adjusted, that it's fine at 240v.

Another one said 240v is too much, that I will need to buy a new avr grin

Thanks a lot. you be correct engineer.

.

Good day Chief,

I have a tec Oga Generator, the 5.5kva with ATS.

The voltage display on the panel is always 240 volts. I have tried adjusting the screws, but the voltage stays the same, though the engine speed reduces.

Any adjustments I make only reduces the displayed frequency to below 50hz but voltage still stays @ 240v.

Is this normal? Should I be worried? I feel 240v is a bit on the high side, 230 would have been better.

What's your opinion on this

Eazy on the system man. From your explanation above, i can deduce there's a 48v battery unit connected to a 24v inverter system.
I believe you have the answers to your question already, you only want to hear someone else say it to you again & again.
Yes, you are running a overload unit. The extra back-up time your get is as a result of the back-up batteries connected in parallel.
#MyTake
If the batteries are connected in parallel, then how can it be a 48v connected to a24v inverter. Also I do not think it's possible to connect a 48v battery to a 24v inverter, if the inverter does not support such.
