chris81964: Very small system. We have the Prosine 1800 24V we have a 30 amp mppt controller and 4 130 watt panels. For batteries we used 4 100 AH 12 V AGM batteries. They are powering a small modem and router that combined use about 100 W. If you have ever used the Prosine then you know it is an incredibly durable inverter that operates in very high temp environments like what is found in the North. Thank you Where do you source your fangpusun products? Any distributor in Nigeria? |

jaybee3: It's unfair to put the blame on the boss considering she was doing her a favour and she must have had other things planned with respect to the impromptu arrangement engineered by silvofitz.
It's ridiculous to think the boss would have withheld the money as i made mention of trying to ensure there is some sort of accountability embedded in the whole process (A family member's shop is close to the boss's shop and i made sure i created the link before the money was transferred)
It's even more unrealistic to expect other people to behave like us as individuals when put in the same situation. You simply can't expect people to drop everything else they've got planned just because it suits you and all.
Fact of the matter is, she could have endured few more days as the homelessness no matter how desperate it may seem hasn't killed her up until that point so could they possibly have ulterior motives we aren't privy to?
Whatever the case may be though, i sincerely hope she is able to move forward with her life if indeed the story is true!! Naaa, you did her a favor, the boss took up a responsibility! If she was not up to it, she could have respectfully declined. We are talking ensuring accountability here and she's too busy to even go check out the house or meet with estate agent or even look for a house for her, in these type of cases, one needs to be available to ensure accountability, so perhaps, the boss was the wrong candidate from the get go ... I don't think it's unfair to blame the boss. Anyways, I guess we all see things differently. BTW, I do not support her action(confronting the boss) so whoever advised her to do that should chop Cain, it was very myopic and it's now casting shadows on her true intentions. |

jaybee3: Just so you know, i was the one that gave her the rent money (I don't usually blow my own trumpet but i'd like you to see it from my own perspective) and my way of ensuring the money was used for the intended purpose is by delegating the responsibility of making the payment on my behalf to someone i can hold accountable. It really doesn't matter now though as i've since been reliably told silvofitz advised the girl in question to forcefully demand the whole money from the boss which she was then advised to oblige by bystanders as the girl turned it into a shouting match.
The imapct of her action is as follows: We have no way of knowing if the girl will use the donated money for the intended purpose, She has severed ties from the job that gives her some sort of guaranteed income
Lessons learnt though so moving on Hope you did not misunderstand me. I was referring to silvofitz that he has not made any monetary contribution, not you Sir. Even though you did not announce it, i suspected as much that you were the one that paid for the rent. It is a pity things are going from looking positive to negative, but this current outcome was predictable. putting the boss in charge had a high probability of creating problem such as this. Another individual would have been preferable but of course not silvofitz. Thanks for helping out, I personally will put the blame on the boss. If I put myself in the girls shoes, I would also think the boss is trying to play hanky panky and has spent the money a good Samaritan entrusted to her care to use in paying my house rent. For the first house, excuse, 2nd house, excuse Haba! Money wey no be her own, some people sef, to release money na wahala for them. I dey vex for the boss sef!!! @ silvofitz You gave not done anything wrong by calling on those that gave the rent mandate to her boss, ensure she's available to pay the rent especially considering the rent money is already with her. I really do not understand why @jaybees seemed to have taken your request as offensive. You have given/dedicated your time(online and offline) to Tope's cause, which is good/commendable, but knowing as naija people don't usually value time, I suspect my naija people are expecting make you sef contribute some money So I'm guessing that's why you're getting some response that seemed negative. If to say you sef don contribute some rent money now,... Personally, I think it was the wrong step to involve boss with the rent payment, usually I don't advice any monetary relationship should exist between employer and employee other than official capacity. Especially in a case like this, it could affect the relationship, hence Tope's job. But hey!, what do I know. Kudos to all those that have assisted the Lady, you are blessed. |

pumppie: i really don't know what is hard to swallow about harvesting melange in 2 and half months at least. on water management, please kindly review the thread carefully a lot has been written on that already so nothing new to add. if you are talking about system used, its not an RAS or constant flow through. its a stagnant water system and you change water when required. no additional forms of aeration was included. like i said, you can modify and even better this result. regards Maybe you're not getting my point. I am not debating melange in 2 and half months. My fishes @ 2 months are already melange What is really surprising is the quantity of feed used to achieve melange in your example above. Especially considering you were feeding to satiation and from my own personal experience, if I were to be feeding to satiation, they will generally consume more than what I give them (I use coppens feeding table). We are all here to learn from each other, so pardon me if I wanted to know if I had missed somethingsomething |

pumppie: Hello all, sorry for the delay as I am not in any way keeping us in suspense. Please let me say that what I am about to reveal is not something unusual and not a top secret, and like I said we can modify and improve on it. It’s just a template of some sort. Please also note that prices of feeds have changed since the last time this model was used. And harvest time was 2 months and 3 days. Some schools of thought, are of the opinion that you must hatch before you can make it big in mélange farming, this is not always the case. Cos truth is we cannot all hatch, even though hatching will definitely save u some cash but it also comes at a cost (N). Just ensure you get your fingerlings from a reputable breeder and pay attention to quality issue. What I’m presenting to u was achieved by a client last month. Before I proceed let me shed light on some obstacles to attaining this target.
1. Low quality fingerlings: Please and please MAKE SURE ur fingerlings are of very FINE QUALITY and must be picking 1.5MM conveniently. 2. Apply the recommended mélange spacing ( don’t over stock a particular pond) 3. Don’t under feed: though there are recommended feeding schedule based on body weight, I feed to satiation but avoid wastage. Feed twice in a day and avoid feeding late at night. 4. Effectively use multivitamins: I use aqua pro and livstovit. 5. Effective water management.
COST 1. Fingerlings @ N10 x 6000 N60,000 2. 1.5mm coppen @ N4000 x 3 N12,000 3. 2mm Durante(scretting) @ N5,550 x 8 N 44,000 4. 3mm coppen @ N6000 x 8 N48,000 5. 4mm Vital feed @ N4,250 x 48 N204,000 6. Aqua pro @ N350 x 2 N700 7. Livstovit @ N500 x 1 N500
TOTAL COST: N369, 200
Total Kg (after 2 months plus): 1920kg
N;B (1) mélange is sold in bowls(bafs) usually containing 30kg/bowl for this cycle, 64bowls were obtained.
;B (2) : he sold @450/kg, thus total sales was N864,000. Gross profit: N864, 000 – N369, 200 = N494, 800 (excluding miscellaneous)
N:B (3): I don’t use vital, I use durante (sktretting) (4MM ) but I suggested vital to him for convenience sake cos it floats unlike durante which requires spot feeding and patience to use.
N:B (4): you should target an average 300g to make profit, however you will find out that a reasonable number will even attain 400/ 500g.
N:B (5): I normally sell at N430/kg, but he was able to sell at 450/kg which I think we should all insist on selling now (feeds and cost of running this business is quite higher now).
I am currently trying out alla aqua (3mm) at the moment cos coppen has increased drastically. Will update when the cycle is complete. Please if there are areas to be elaborated on I will be willing to, regards. Very interesting model, though it's hard to swallow looking at it on the surface. Can you tell us more about the water management practice used to get this particular result. Is it a RAS, constant flow through, daily water change, or do the ponds have a form of constant aeration?. This will help shed more light on the success of this particular example. I personally would like to achieve this same result, would appreciate further breakdown, thanks. |

Seun: Dear Nairalanders,
We are thinking of completely banning the promotion of forex trading and sports betting on Nairaland.
Forex day-trading and sports betting are fundamentally fraudulent because they're promoted as a quick way of making money whereas due to mathematical facts, the only people who make money are the middlemen and marketers. The "investors" almost always lose their money.
In our experience, it's not enough to warn Nairaland members about the dangers of forex day-trading and sports betting. The promise of quick profit is just too strong for thousands of vulnerable Nairaland members to resist. The only way to protect them is complete censorship.
We believe that the complete ban of such content will make Nairaland a better platform for discussing legitimate entrepreneurship and finance.
What do you think? Please click 'like' if you like the idea; thanks. Great idea. Government should also ban Nairaland cos its promoting ethnic/tribal hate which could lead to another civil war |

Agriculture › Re: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by bily(m): 5:59am On Apr 06, 2016 |
NUVEMBARZINTL: There's no law to the amount of feed to give to your fish per time. All you need to do is to feed to satisfaction but DON'T OVER FEED to the point that you are leaving left over feed on top of the pond. Such practice will eat into your profit and at the same time polute your water which can end up in killing your fish. I personally don't believe nor give formular for feeding regime. This is because, farmer A that feed his fish EFFECTIVELY once or two twice a day will have a better yield to farmer B that feeds SPARINGLY 4times a day. All that matters is the QUALITY & the QUANTITY of feed that you are giving to your fish. Also, you have to be conscious of the cost of your production. That should GUIDE you to know how much to expend on your production. Always carry out a constant market survey analysis to know both the current production cost and the selling price. Endeavour to always monitor the growth/weight of your fish also on weekly basis by randomly picking and weighting some fish. You MUST also train yourself on RECORD KEEPING. Detailed book keeping will help you to know when to sell your fish because you have an idea of what your production cost should be. Hence, you begin to prepare yourself for the harvest once you've spent the expected production cost per unit on them. The reason why you should not exceed the production cost of your environment or locality is because you are selling your fish to the same people that will buy from other farmers around you.
Wishing you all the very best!!! Well said Sir, On the issue of feeding, I personally do not practice feeding to satisfaction. The current set of fishes I have, if I were to be feeding till satisfaction, Na Gbese u go enter, those fishes can eat ehn! What I do is a follow a feeding table recommended by coppens, the simple reason I follow coppens feeding table is because it's in line with my personal targets ie to achieve average size of 1kg fish in 4 months from 10g juveniles. I feed them the quantity coppens recommends per day,if they like let them still be acting hungry, what I have discovered is every week when I take a sample of their weight, it corresponds with the weight it should be on the feeding table so I know I'm on track. I have discovered that feeding to satiation could lead to wastage of feed, catfish will eat more than their stomach can take, and they will gradually vomit it. For those using earthen may not notice this, but if you're using concrete and observant, you may see it. Just my observation though, this has been what has been working for me, even for fries, I take weight samples and feed accordingly to feeding table, let's just say I prefer the scientific approach to farming. the most important thing is to have an idea of what your fishes should eat and not to be too far off the mark. Imagine giving your fishes 10kg of feed per day when they ought to be eating 40kg, that difference is much and will lead to bad result or extend your harvest time. So the feeding table can act as a guideline, nothing is cast in stone and they are different ways to skin a cat, the Koko na for all of us to keep smiling to and from the bank |

Now why should your intro send chills when it's open to see on my profile. Yes am the lead analyst with Astute Financials so what's the fuss? It's there for all to see bro.
Regarding your second paragraph, we are not in the same class neither are we in the same league, so we ain't competing please note this.If we are I'll be posting details or something. Astute has more that 5 serious technical traders,And even the third of them provides webinars for 3 brokers, In case you don't know Astute provides PAID webinar service for 8 standard brokerage companies, just wanted to observe you and probably recommend but then you turned out to be a joke.
The stats displayed there is enough for any serious analyst to observe, and deduce what ever from it. Thing is if you are a pro, you would know the risk level of a portfolio is not determined by the leverage, but by its usage, which is also available to see by all, but then you ain't a professional so you cannot even know what to look for.
I seriously wasn't here to challenge you, really but I just wanted to follow jeje and see how it goes, thinking you are a serious trader who knows what he is doing but unfortunately you don't.
You spoke about high risk, let me school you from your account, you have a $200 account yet you trade with $40 per trade , in my calculation that 20% of the account, yet you do not have 1 way of handling the risk, no stop loss no nothing, and you are here talking about high risk trading. You need to do a more careful study of that live explorer maybe you would learn something.
The reason for my critique is not because of any other thing other than to let you know that what you are doing and how you are doing it is wrong. You are trying to mislead people, the young and aspiring ones with all this your rum you kept posting. If you are right I will support you, you piqued my interest with your topic but unfortunately you have digressed, being behind different handles and calling yourself a team. Funny guy.
This is one of the main problem with young traders, you guys are so emotional and egocentric when you are being corrected, instead of listening and learning, you tend to get ahead of yourself. Am hopeful you will be less arrogant after you have gotten more experience from the market.
Think about it, isn't it wrong to start selling what you don't have? Atleast you have seen a longer term account with serious stats, you started something within a month, no profit, no defined risk pattern, no defined analytical pattern, yet you are advertising to sell. How can you sell what you yourself do not have, team you have not profited from, with 5 consecutive loss count, you are selling. What's to guaranty that you would not lose the next 5 trades? Why not get that 10-15% you spoke about first. Funny how ones target can reduce so much from 1 million dollars to 15%.
I am criticizing you because someone has to and simply because I know more than you and I COULD PROVE IT. No hard feeling here just learn. Why not make a history first, please stay on course.
What else do you want to see or do you mean by making it public, isn't it public enough,or do you mean to see how much is in the account? You see the trades and everything what else do you need?
The lesson here is simple, be patient, work on your consistency, grow your account first, get a record to show, then you can start selling.
Just focus on your trading bro, you can't sell what you don't have, don't mislead people.
Stay Good. I took a cursory glance at your ff trade journal. For someone who has been a proponent of sound money management, I must confess, I expected more from you. Over 50% equity draw down? I hope it's your personal account and not your astute financial abi wetin you call am. I actually like your criticisms, but I think you should first channel it to your trading, it will do you a lot of good. @ OP, I agree it's too early to be advertising fund management when you have not yet proven yourself, common, your account is just 1 month old! |

If you can get a pond aerator for night use will reduce the respiration effect. In the afternoon, there's no problem cos they produce oxygen during photosynthesis. |

ab1x: Thanks for the report. The analysis shows that fish meal has 72% crude protein while Clupeid fish meal has 70.6% crude protein. My take is that farmers can combine the two to get better result or better still combine fish meal 72% with local fish (Eja Gbigbe) to reduce the cost of feed production Yes it's stated in the report that the best result was when the 2 was combined with the same ratio, but used individually, the difference i's negligible, hence does not justify the wide price margin, which BTW, has been my point all along. I'm sure someone would have gained something from the discuss. Peace |

A while ago, a feedmill in my location did an analysis of clupied and the result shows that crude protein is less than the fish meal. It is not as if fish will not grow if you use it but for better result you should go for fish meal. There are many ways to reduce cost but that is not the subject of the matter on ground Ok, please do tell Sir, is there any reason why I should accept animal care analysis and not Nigerian institute for fresh water fisheries research?

Agriculture › Re: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by bily(m): 5:34pm On Mar 17, 2016 |
ab1x: I doubt if you've used both. Let me remind you that fish meal 72% current price is #850 per KG and Clupeidae current price is #550 per KG. There are two types of Clupeidae. One is white and the other one is gold. The gold type is better than the white. White has about 52% crude protein while the gold is around 60/62. Like I said earlier and I will say it again, fish meal 72% is better than Clupeidae anytime, any day. Unless of course if you buy fake fish meal and there is a lot of it in the market. If Clupeidae is better than fish meal, a lot of people will go for it as a cheap alternative instead of buying imported products. Most Nigerians do not listen/read to understand, rather they listen/read to respond. I never said clupeid is better or Superior to 72% crude protein, I said it can totally replace 72% without any difference in final output. The point is considering the price difference viz a viz the negligible difference in outcome, it makes more business sense to use clupeid to maximize profit. If you also read my previous submission, you would see when I mentioned I too was always of the opinion of its 72% fish meal or nothing else, especially considering I tried the imported 65% fish meal about 8 or 9years ago and did not like it, even the fishes did not respond to it well. But I can tell you clupeid is way better than the old 65% fish meal and I was suprised at the result, that's what even led me to do a search more info on it. like they say necessity is the mother of invention. Some are forced to reduce quantity of fish meal cos of price and supplement with soya meal, you even mentioned you reduced from 40kg to 30kg. Now imagine if you used clupeid of 40kg, you may actually get better result especially given the fact that research shows they are comparable in final output. I would appreciate if you can point me to where you you saw 52 and 60% crude protein for clupeid cos I see 68.5% and 71.3% I think the major purpose of this thread is for sharing and ultimately a community where fish farmers will come together with the ultimate goal of maximizing profit. No one is forcing anything on anybody. If I have not used something, I will say so, I mentioned garlic as attractant, but I stated I had not used it. |

So you are the only one in the field and the only person that knows what's up. Congrats. It is cos of arguments like this, that prompted the research. I will check, cos I believe I also saw same research done here in Nigeria by institute of marine research and oceanography. There's no end to knowledge and we keep learning everyday. ab1x: There is nothing wrong with clupeid fish. Alot of people use it to compliment fishmeal in their feed composition. It is protein level is not upto 72% (check with animal care). It is not as if you will not get result using that but you can't compare coke with pepsi ( with due respect to pepsi) What's the difference between 71.3% and 72%? Unfortunately I don't know where I kept the research document, I'm sure anyone can google it. In some cases, clupeid performed better and vice versa. Point is the difference is negligible. This is not about something wrong with clupeid or not, nor is it about complementing fish meal.. . it's about replacing imported fish meal 100% without any difference in output. When you talk of soya or chicken intestine etc, that's when you talk of complementing fish meal. The only issue wet may have with clupeid is that they are 2 major strains in Nigeria, one with 71. 33% and the other with 69% crude protein. But even the 72% imported fish meal is +or-. Analysis may actually give you about 70% give or take. As per coke and pepsie, all na sugarsugar difference Na marketing and brand/mind share. Non is actually better then the other |

Ttalk: I just asked a friend the price of imported fish meal 72% protein and he said 50kg goes for 41,000 meaning 820naira per kg. What is your take in the use of foreign fishmeal in feed composition. Ab1x, excellesoir, Soft777, Nuvembarz, Robonski, Ayosat and my respected gurus please come and do justice to this pressing question You can replace the imported fish meal 100% with clupeid fish (I think it's Yoruba call it yoyo) I read a scientific research comparing 72% imported fish meal from Holland to local clupeid, conclusion, no difference. So don't waste your money please. Will find a link to the research and post. I used to believe solely in imported 72%,but the high cost and research changed my mind |

It's only in Lagos the same road will be one way in the day time and dual carriage in the evening without any sign or notification to that effect.
The particular road OP is referring to is one way any time before 5pm (I think), after 5pm it's not one way. That's why you always see police there capitalizing on it, cos there's no way a driver will have that info if he is not a regular on that route. |
