The intensity from the preseason is pretty interesting, ballers seem thirsty for some real competition..a lot of changes to team roasters, I expect a more competitive season.

@Birdman
I really appreciate the initiative and the invitation, I wish to participate but I have numerous commitments and would hate to disappoint the group during the season by being inactive and guess what?
No worries bro. I was kinda concerned about being too busy mid season too, but Yahoo is much easier to manage.

We got 6 right now. I opened up another thread on Sports too. There have been so many power moves this year that I am not sure how the league, especially the West will shake out. Draft is next week saturday!

I just opened a league for Nairalanders who want to play fantasy basketball. If you think you have hardcore NBA knowledge, come get humbled lol. Join nairaleague here! We need about 4 more people to make this fun.

Draft will be next week Saturday, on the 31st. Its autodraft so you are covered if you miss it

On Tuesday, after the opening games, I will also create another thread specifically asking a wider audience to join. I'm hoping by then folks that visit this thread have already signed up. We need 8 minimum to have competitive and meaningful season

We have just 4 teams as at today. Will the draft still go on?
I just moved the draft to Saturday the 31st. We will miss the initial week, but I think more people will return to this thread by then and sign up. A few days watching players should make for a more informative draft too.

For example, dog and pig are not a clean animals to be eaten, it was considered as an unclean animals.

Now if God rejected them then not to be eaten because of his holiness and who he is,
will he now accept and approve them to be eaten now?

That's my question
Goshen will be on your thread like white on rice cheesy but le me address this specific one since I made a decision on this sometime back.

Jesus is the fulfilment of the law, so for you, you can eat what you want, even food offered to idols (see 1 Cor 8 ). But remember, "not all things are beneficial" (1 Cor 10:23). Specifically for pigs, modern science has found out that these animals carry pathogens and stuff that is hard to get rid of, primarily because of their eating habits. So when the law forbade the eating of the pigs, it was acting as a "schoolmaster" (Gal 3:24), teaching the Jews things they did not know in order to keep them healthy. One version calls the law a "guardian".

So can you eat pigs? Of course, you are under grace! But should you? To quote the NIV on 1 Cor 10:23, "I have the right to do anything, but not all things are beneficial". I have the right to jump off a 2 storey building, but.... I have a right to eat pigs all day, but...

Personally, I have found it harder to avoid non kosher food, eg pig meat while living in the west, so i instead try to minimize my exposure as much as possible. And I still dont get the craving for bacon huh

just joined, pls how does the fantasy sport work?
im sure i replied to this post earlier huh. U might want to read up the help page on yahoo. Its easy once u get the hang of it. Basically you draft about 10 players for your team, and play them against other nairalanders every week. You will compete in several categories including pts, assists, rebounds etc. Towards the end of the season, teams with the best record compete for playoffs

Yea,I think that site is no longer running a fantasy league again. We'll need strictly nairalanders to join this one so we can talk at it on the forum as we had people who were not nairalanders there. The draft is next week and we have just 3 teams there.Do u think we can get more teams if it goes through front page?
wsup sky. I figured people will start joining in the last week, Nigerian time grin. Lemme ping a few ppl who might be interested. I am a little wary of anyone just signing up and then abandoning after 3 weeks. the following folk are the bball regulars I know who might be interested in the league

To Seun Kuti, the answer to everything is youth. Youth this, youth that. So we should skip all the accomplished technocrats we have and hand it to a "hungry" youth. Lol. News flash...age and experience is not a crime. If you are a youth hungry for power, wait your turn and prove yourself. If you think you are too good to do that, chart your own way and show us how wrong we were to ignore you

I really enjoy your point here...but what's your take on churches owning schools? okay let's not talk about the high fee they charge...I think churches school should be price competing with Gotv owned schools...

and again after churches school has balance all its expenditure for the year..where does the remaining interest they gain goes to?....enlighten me abeg
good point, and you raised issues that are sticking points for me. The first part is obvious - if you try to run a private enterprise to be govt competitive on prices, you WILL run at loss. So I have no problems with Covenants etc charging more. The parable of the 3 servants given talents by their master is clear. God does expect that we increase what we started with.

The second issue is about fairness. In the book of Acts, all the believers gathered money together and split resources to share especially for the needy etc. Question is how do we apply this principle to today? How does a church plow its profit from ventures like universities etc back to benefit the needy among its parishioners?

Frankly, I don't know that simple profit sharing will work in today's world - how do you determine how much of the profit goes to helps versus keeping the business healthy etc. I do think that the needy should get some help more than just food...maybe scholarships to said universities, grants to open businesses, loans etc.

The reason I don't criticize the Oyedepos and Adeboyes is that truth be told, I dont know if they do these things or not. And based on the Lord's command to do acts of kindness with little noise, I dont expect them to tweet about every single act. So, until I can prove that they don't, I run the risk of criticizing innocent people, and probably hinder God's work more than help it. Not to mention that by judging other Christians, I immediately set myself up to be judged by the same measure.

Of course, if I were a member of any of these churches, the questions you raised would definitely be in my mind.

The Pope rode in a $20K mini car as a proof of humility?
Wow!
I guess He would have been even more humble if He rode a Donkey.
You are very correct. I think the intrinsic problem is that many people, including christians, do not really understand what wealth is, and the role money plays in it. They see a footballer taking selfies on a "private" jet and think the the dude has made it. His boss, the club owner, sees the same selfie while on his yatch and laughs becasue he knows what true wealth is, and what you have to do to get it and keep it.
Christianity EtcRe: Pope US Visit Proves Nigerian Pastors Wrong!!! by birdman(m): 3:51am On Oct 03, 2015
paris10:
The Pope's US visit was a triumph in upholding Christ teachings. If anything, one thing it does teaches us is that you don't need a private jet, nor a limousine nor even the most expensive carrier to ride in to do God's work.

It teaches us humility in the face of plenty, humbleness in the face of pride, and godliness to silence the greedy and the new generation pastors we have been condoning.

Creflor Dollar needed a $65,000 jet to do God's work ( his congregation are currently donating the money ). Adeboye, Oyedepo et al also need this amount of money to do God's work. Pope rode in a $20k mini series car. He specifically demanded this because " as a man of God you cannot live confortably and ride the most expensive cars whilst the children of God are suffering".

Over to the gullible Nigerian pastors defenders.
I beg to disagree. The pope can request that plane anytime he wants. It is reserved for him. In essence, the state itself has bought a jet for the pope.

Now compare that with a pastor preaching a sermon in one city on saturday night, and another sermon in another time zone the next morning. Obviously driving is not feasible. Neither can you carry all your staff for 4-5 hour wait at the airport every weekend, assuming you can even find a flight when you want. Have you ever flown a 12 hour flight before? What evangelist is going to try a world missions trip lasting a 3 months flying every two to three days. Even Reinhard Bonnke, on moving to the US, needed a private jet. God so kind, he found a preacher that gave it to him for free!

Are there carnal christians and pastors that lust after jets because it is a status symbol? Yeah. But there are also carnal christians, like you, who think all there is to a plane is the status symbol. The plane is a tool. Its very effective for Ceos, vps , presidents because they can get from point a to point b quickly. . And it is a very effective tool for moving significant ministry resources from point a to point b at a moments notice

He is actually someone that doesn't like to offend people as much as possible and likes to think things out deeply..which will make him an Obama-style pragmatic president. I think America needs a shade of the perceived firm, powerful presidency alongside that.
As Obama as shown, America doesnt do well with presidents that are too cerebral, so I can see a Carson presidency as a a foreign policy disaster. Plus the fact that he has managed to avoid even talking about police brutality, blacklivesmatter etc tells me all I really need to know. He reminds me of Condi Rice - very smart, used civil rights movement to advance, then got to the top and started singing another tune. When push comes to shove at the primaries, he is going down the same way previous black republicans have eg Herman Cain, Alan Keyes

http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/21/okonjo-iweala-joins-us-investment-bank-gets-bill-and-melinda-gates-board-appointment/

"Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has disclosed that she is joining United States financial advisory and asset management bank, Lazard.

Okonjo-Iweala added that she also got a new job – chair-elect of the board of Bill and Melinda Gates’ Gavi the Vaccine.

“The two appointments I’m going to undertake embody a continuation of what I’ve tried to do in my career”, she told the Financial Times.

“My work at Gavi will help me continue my work in strengthening institutions and building systems to improve the health of children through immunisation,” she said.

At Lazard, she would advise countries on structuring their finances and dealing with debt issues, the newspaper wrote.

Okonjo-Iweala served twice as Finance Minister, first under President Olusegun Obasanjo and then Goodluck Jonathan.

She has been accused of tactically backing the looting of oil funds, among other allegations.

The economist has consistently denied all the claims.
"

What do you think of this?
I am not surprised. The advisory position looks very shady. Anyways the damage has been done already....

^true. gsw is also a ground up team. still though, unless one of those draft picks has MVP like talent, there is no telling. And there is the kicker. Who knew Curry was going to bet the most valuable PG someday as earlyas2014/2015, ahead of even CP3. I guess this is what makes the game exciting to watch these days

With multiple pieces to arrange, it's pretty hard looking at the current roaster to predict the future of the Celtics, one thing for sure is it's a very young roaster with hunger, additions like David lee (Golden State) and Amir Johnson (Raptors) are good but we still need that experienced super star, that rallying point...the man with the magic wand Danny Ainge is renowned for shaping roasters and I have a gut feeling we are getting there.
#greenrunsdeep
i hope some kind of diamond in the rough comes out of this for the celtics. it looks like the storied franchise is going to go down for a while, a la Lakers. I remember we had a tiny beef earlier in the season where you thought the front office savvy regarding draft picks was going to help the celtics. But NBA talent is a funny thing - all the teams that have tried this route have almost always flopped, chicago bulls pre-rose being the poster boy. other than okc thunder,, i havent seen any team that built from ground up and had lasting success. You always needed that superstar. In todays league, even 2 superstars is not enough.

Still, that team should be fun to watch and very marketable to the local boston fan base. In the East, they might even make the playoffs. Unless they get a 6 seed or higher though, obviously it will be a round 1 exit

Does Kanu think the looting that has been going on in Nigeria was from only one part of the country? Didnt a SS christian just break all the looting records? How does he plan on stopping the SE looters from looting in his new empire. When u live abroad for too long, you start to lose touch with reality. Smh

My own top 10 smiley

1. Spurs - who wants to bet against pops and timmy 2 years in a row. not me
2. Cavaliers - kyrie and love will not play full minutes until midway thru the season. Fresh superstars + lebron will be dangerous come playoffs
3. Rockets - Yeah I'm a homer, but having Ty and the bearded one on the court at the same time will bust any zones
4. Golden State - Teams have all offseason to study mr MVP and GS rotations. Plus Gentry, the genius behind the offensive sets imo will likely be gone
5. Clippers - They added Josh smith so they have a deeper bench, but in the loaded west it is not enough
6. OKC - I expect Durant to return having solved his one weakness, passing when it counts. But OKC will be learning new offensive rotations
7. Miami - My boy dwade will do what he does. A healthy Bosh should keep the pressure off. Lets see how the newbs perform on this team
8. Memphis - u already know what time it is. perennial trouble maker. but i fear grindhouse has no secrets left
9. Bulls - I want to see what a creative coach can do with rose, gasol and noah. but im not sure rose wont get injured again.
10. Hawks/Wiz - Both are solid teams, and it is hard to tell who will be better if both teams are injury free
