BlackManta:
No way Black Adam will under perform..

The Rock himself is a marketing machine and his films always do well at the box office

Black Adam will do very well, there is nothing to worry about.

But from now on WB should stop producing films that no one asked for.
I have looked at DCEU slate from Man Of Steel to BOP.

BOP is the only DC film that has no business being in existence, no one asked for it, doesn't push the DCEU forward and only there to add to Harley Quinn story.

Another major reason for BOP box office travails is the fact that it is R rated...
BOP had no business being R rated...freaking Suicide Squad was PG13 and it earned $700m....if you take away the teenagers that went to see the film, you would be looking at only $400m.
So yes PG13 is an advantage, not every film can try R rated and do well. Birds of Prey is suffering now cuz many young DC fans can't see the film.

I hate to admit it but hulk616 was right

Moving forward, a spin-off like Gotham City Sirens (if it ever happens) should stick with PG13.

Female centric comic book films struggle to take off at box office....only a handful has managed to break the glass ceiling.

Looking forward to the future of DCEU.
We still have....

WW84
Flash
Batman
Suicide Squad
Black Adam
Shazam 2 and Aquaman 2

We can breath a sigh of relief as we ain't getting any more BOP-like unnecessary films again , the slate looks solid....BOP should hopefully break even but nothing spoil.
I have seen Black Adam.

I was wrong about Dwayne Johnson.

That bastard needs to be stopped.

The werey was hyping this movie as his passion project.

If this is what his passion project looks like, I don't want to know what he has in store in the future.

The man is not a producer and should not have creative control over any DC character.

I have no interest in a Black Adam 2.

We don't need "Venom films" in James Gunn's DCU.

My prayer is that Shazam 2 will out gross Black Adam.

If it does, WBD will make a third Shazam film which is the perfect opportunity to use Black Adam as a villain that he's supposed to be and get his ass handed to him by Billy fvcking Batson.

And hopefully, kill him off so I won't have to see his stupid face again.

3 years ago DC films with big characters like Superman, Batman couldn't even earn a billion but now since 2018 DC films earns billions effortlessly.

I expect the streak to continue this year with Wonder Woman, Batman or Black Adam next year and Aquaman 2..

When DC films start earning more than $3b in one year, you will be here to share testimony. grin

We are getting there cheesy
I made this comment before Coronavirus became a full blown pandemic.

COVID-19 changed everything, every fvcking thing.

Wonder Woman 1984 was released simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters in December 2020, in the very peak of COVID-19.

The Batman could have easily made $800m if HBO Max didn't limit his potential.

COVID-19 is still a factor in 2022. It significantly changed how often people go to theaters till date.

The MCU is also feeling it, none of their movies are hitting a billion this year. Even a sequel to a billion dollar movie will be lucky to pass Doctor Strange 2.

Right now, unless your comic book movie promises to be as big as No Way Home and releasing in an extended holiday period like Christmas with nostalgia bait and everything....no billion for you.

I was wrong about Black Adam.

I thought it would be an epic blockbuster but it turned out to be a complete garbage.

Aquaman 2 is releasing on Christmas day 2023.
If it gets a China release date around that holiday period, it's definitely making a billion.

Lastly, fvck you Hulk616 for digging up my pre-covid predictions.

I think this franchise can still do well....on streaming like all those Star Wars shows

I don't think general audience are ready for a pirates movie without Johnny Depp
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by BlackManta(m): 7:00pm On Nov 14, 2022
abduleez1:
I still think $150mn is more than enough to do anything they want in that movie. Aquaman was around $175mn, while Wonder Woman was $150mn.
Look at Dune's budget. If that movie could do all that visual feast for $165mn even with that humongous top A-List cast and also earning academy awards and nominations for its visuals, costume and design; then Black Adam had no reason to be as big as a tentpole DC movie. Not for a relatively unknown character and a first movie.

You expect critics to give BA a Dwayne Johnson DC flick a favourable rating when Black Panther was 3 weeks away? If Thor: Love and Nonsense could get around 60% RT score, then you'd see how bias these w@nkers can be.
Most of the reviews you'd see it's just pure vitriol and hate they spewing and not anything to do with professional criticism.

With that inconsistent rating I think critics identities should be made very public... I ain't talking about the few popular ones. So they can come and defend their opinions online.
COVID may have something to do with the big budget....That is, if it was indeed filmed during COVID

Batman originally had a 100m budget, COVID came and the budget rose to $200m

After harassing James Gunn and trending #ReleaseAyerCut on the day TSS released in theaters back in 2021, they now turn around to beg James Gunn, the new head of DC, to release Ayer Cut.

How the tables have turned.

James Gunn is crazy good with comic book characters.

This guy turned an obscure Guardians of the Galaxy into fan favourites.

This guy picked up Suicide Squad, dusted it and polished it and it sparkled.

This guy made a hit with Peacemaker of all people.

I have no doubts that any DC character that Gunn touches will shine.

He's a comic book fan and one of the best talents at DC right now.

He has an impeccable record with comic book characters.

Welcome....The anti-Kevin Feige cool

It's okay for a movie critic to be a hardcore Marvel fan, most of them are anyway, so I understand.

What I don't understand is...not nipping your Marvel bias in the bud when reviewing a DC film.

The worst thing about critics calling Doctor Fate a discount Doctor Strange, or Cyclone a copy of Storm is that we all know damn well that when Namor releases next month nobody will call him a copy of Aquaman.

These people should try to hide their MCU bias at least, not pour it all over a review.

There seems to be some consensus about Black Adam being pure action with barely any plot

Not a bad thing tho...if done well
One of my guys compared Black Adam to Transformers...

The plot of Michael Bay's Transformers are not remarkable but the movies are entertaining af.

At least I now know what to expect when going to see it

Why bother paying critics when the director is an Oscar winner grin

Nobody hires an Oscar winning director and still pay critics.

I was rooting for this guy until I realized how much he hates Superman.

This guy made sure that Man Of Steel 2 never happened while he was in charge.

He prevented more focus on trinity and blocked any chance of Henry Cavill returning as Superman.

He also greenlit the black Clark Kent Superman movie by JJ Abrams that nobody asked for.

I can't believe I have to say this but a bona-fide Superman hater should not be head of DC films.

Especially now that I'm hearing that David Zaslav actually wants to sell WB to Capcom in the next 2 to 3 years.

MOS 2 is still in early development, at least 4 years away from hitting theaters if it actually happens.

Sure, Discovery likes Superman and Henry but what if they sell WB by 2024 and new owners wants to scrap everything and start afresh?

We go back to square one again

I hope the next movie is not a direct sequel.

I prefer if MOS 2 is a re-launch akin to what James Gunn did to Suicide Squad.

A fresh take on Superman with the cast of Man Of Steel and Henry Cavill with a new director.

It gets better

They are eyeing Christopher Macquarie to write it, he might not end up doing it but this shows that WB wants the best possible hands to handle Superman moving forward.

I personally want Dennis Villenueve to direct the next Superman movie.

He's already working with WB on Dune franchise and he was one of the few people that was eyed to direct The Batman before Matt Reeves got it.

They've turned on Henry Cavill undecided

TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by BlackManta(m): 8:07pm On Oct 16, 2022
Raalsalghul:
I wouldn't get too excited for Cavill's appearance as Superman in Black Adam.

Me thinks it's just a strategy to drive nostalgia and boost box office sales.

Would only take it serious when they announce MoS2.
At first I thought he was just doing Dwayne Johnson a favour since they are friends but apparently he's also in the Flash movie.

This is the same Cavill that wouldn't show up in Shazam or Peacemaker.

The truth of the matter is Henry Cavill would not have returned for BA and Flash if his role and future as Superman wasn't guaranteed by the new WBD regime.

Henry Cavill and WarnerMedia (the old regime) had fallen out and they didn't value Superman... Any possibility of MOS 2 was impossible with the old regime.

Dwayne Johnson even confirmed to the press that he and his manager had been begging WarnerMedia for Henry Cavill's Superman for 6 long years and they said "NO".

The old regime have been replaced by David Zaslav who happens to be a big fan of Superman and out nowhere Henry is back... not just for BA but in Flash too.

It's not a coincidence.

His return is a big deal.

It means that he has nailed his spot as the Superman of DCEU and any of talk of replacing him are pretty much nonexistent now.

The new WBD leadership wants him to keep playing Superman, his relationship with the studio is fine now and Man Of Steel 2 is a possibility.
