Politics › How To Criticize Government Without Being A Hopeless Wailer by blackpanda(op): 9:50am On Mar 04, 2016
With the way politics in nigeria is going, it almost seems as if nigeria is running a one party state. The longest surviving political party that ought to have functioned as a strong credible opposition has found itself being ravaged by corruption, impunity and political scandals. Nigerians are now split between those who believe in the change mantra of the present administration and those who simply hate apc.

But this need not be. If our country is to grow we need credible opposition that can deliver constructive criticisms without insults or bias or any form of hate.

That said, I have compiled a list of things i think any intelligent nigerian who means well for this country ought to look out for:

1. What is the motive of your criticism?
This is the most important factor in being a constructive critic of govt. If your motive is to spread fear or hate or your own personal bias, then nigeria doesnt need to hear it. The motive of any critic must be the growth and devt of the country not "i hate buhari" or "apc are liars" etc

2. No insults
Many people think they are making a point when they spew insults on political leaders. When u insult people, they wont listen to you and as such u make no impact whatsoever. Rather being civil and respectful in your comments. Breathe and try not to show anger, you will be more likely to get support and a listening ear

3. Provide a reasonable alternative
Many come online or go about saying things they hate or do not approve of government actions and policies. But ask them what they would do differently, and they absolutely no idea. If you dont have an alternative solution to a problem then dont make it worse by mindless comments.

4. Speak to policies and actions of government and not persons.
Do not say "I dont like buhari". Rather speak about his actions that you do not approve. You dont impress anybody but yourself when you show bias

5. Do your research
Some people who claim to be critics end up mumbling and juggling up facts, and sometimes they do this intentionally just to backup their preconceived selfish agenda. Telling lies or jumbling up facts does not make any impact. Rather you just show how shallow and unproductive you are.

6. Give room for counter-criticism
Some of us have so much in-built anger that the moment anybody disagrees with us, then next thing is to throw insults and tantrums. But this is really unnecessary. Nobody is perfect so be open to other people disagreeing with your point of view. Rather than insult them, learn from it.

With this said i really hope we all can abandon this polarized hateful arguments. It doesnt help government or citizens or the country. All governments need a counter balance and persons who can genuinely criticize govt policies with harboring hate or a personal agenda/bias. It is through credible opposition that govt can hear the cries of the nigerian people

HungerBAD:
What? what is the definition of idle?

Is there not a clause in our Banking Laws that stipulates that Monies left after a certain time idly(hoarding) in the Banks, should be reported to the C.B.N who in turn have the powers to convert it into Federal Government Money? Cant the C.B.N name this owners of this $20 Billion? who are these Nigerians sitting on top of this money?

The Government should identify, arrest and prosecute those Nigerians who are guilty for the slide in the value of the naira by embarking on dollar speculation.

This Government is working.
Think before you blab! How can Government convert private citizen's money into govt coffershuh You want govt to steal people's money? Hian..all these wailers sef! Smh

MrLouisVanGaal:
We elected a 1985 president who believes the country can only survive by running after foreign investors no matter how suspicious whatever pact signed is. I have not been surprised by his traveling about. This is how he believed it is done in in the 80's, and this is how he still believes it should be done now and his gullible supporters like i once was will tell you 'he's strengthening international relations' 11 months after coming to power. I only regretted supporting the man as it was a choice of the devil and the deep deep blue sea. Turns out we elected a major disaster and a potential catastrophe. It won't be long before we hear that Nigeria has been sold to the highest bidder.

Stop talking trash. You dont know what you are saying since when did going after foreign investors become a bad thinghuh Smh
Politics › Re: Buhari's Questionable Deal With Qatar - Olusegun Adeniyi by blackpanda: 6:49am On Mar 04, 2016
OP I think you are mixing two different issues. BASA Agreement and issuance of Visa are 2 different things. Every country has there own policy on issuance of visa to another country, this does not imply discrimination. Try applying for american visa or south african visa and see how difficult it is. Visa policy is completely different from BASA. Nigeria also has their own visa policy too, and it is very stringent for some countries. And while we may not have a national carrier, Arik Air has since been operating unofficially as Nigeria's national carrier. However, there are plans in the works to unveil our official carrier soon.

Mrs okigbo case is regrettable and i believe its something than can be negotiated between the two countries. I think the real problem here was misinformation or lack thereof. Never apply for visa from an airline's website, they might not be able to give specific accurate info since its not only nigerians looking to travel there.

Love Machine:
Our local manufacturers depend on imported raw materials to produce their goods.Nigeria as a whole doesn't have it locally and it will take several years to start making it.The only raw materials we produce here are tomatoes, onions, pepper,Banana, pawpaw, salt and it is due to our fertile land.
Which raw materials are Truworths and Clover bringing into Nigeriahuh Nigerians make clothes and we have our own juice companies. Your analogy doesnt apply to this case. The companies leaving are those that import finished products.

True investors stay for the long haul.
Do they have a factory or farm in Nigeria or they are treating Nigeria as a dumping ground for excess production in South Africa
Exactly! Its a good thing they are leaving. We dont need excess imports at this critical stage. Especially for goods that have a local alternative!

Corruption is the reason why pdp could never defeat boko haram. All funds were diverted to private pockets.

Corruption is the major factor why pdp could never construct any new road in its entire 16yrs of leadership

Corruption is the reason why none of our universities are in the top 100 universities in the world

Corruption is the reason why almajiri's are in the streets begging, 50million are living in poverty and over 20million youth are without jobs at home doing nothing....

Need I go on? Like Mr President said, it is either we kill corruption or corruption will kill us. No matter the wonderful ideas or policies govt may have, corruption will rubbish it completely!

The above were your words were you mentioned a particular political party and I had to tell you to be apolitical if you want the issue of corruption to be addressed.

I wil advise you go thru them again so that you won't think your words ain't been digressed by others shocked
I was talking about corruption, not the political party. Any sane intelligent person can see that. Stop quoting out of context!

Pls stop telling lies. Scarcity happened several times under GEJ...lies are unnecessary to prove a point especially when we all witnessed it!

And by the way, while u are comparing regimes, subsidy is technically out of our budget. Recall the massive chaos when gej tried ithuh

Actually I dont think any of them should be punished. This is simply a case of young love gone wrong. Unless, I am wrong both parties are determined to be together, so its not a case of forced kidnapping.

I think what they need is counselling. The guy is just 18, what does he know. These are kids that made a grave mistake!

corruption thrive in both parties.

All the points you listed are predominant between our major political parties in Nigeria and until we stop playing partisanship. we cant have an headway.

If APC could accommodate all PDP members whom they have accused of corruption and sponsoring BH and encouraging Almajiri and killing the university system, What then is the blame game if both parties have shared members .

The recent denials of campaign promises and padding of budget is another corruption that must be addressed quickly .

Nigeria will be great and God Bless Nigeria.

Now that Saint Buhari, Oyegun, Tinubu, OBJ and Co are killing corruption, I bought fuel yesterday for N200, they take N50 from my account each time I send or receive money yet I pay tax, all the foodstuffs I was buying cheap during the era of corruption have become expensive, transportation cost has increased, data and electricity cost has increased, I think I prefer our corruption.
You bought fuel 200 because u prefer to buy black market than queue. You are quick to forget that under gej tenure there was also massive fuel scarcity. The N50 stamp duty u pay is as a result of the stamp duties act that was amended under jonathan as well. So be careful how u nag. Most of d things u are complaining of were initiated by jonathan!
