Business › Re: CBN Insists It Won’t Reverse Restriction On Naira ATM Card Abroad by blackpanda: 5:10pm On Dec 28, 2015 |
Bevista: The CBN should allow demand and supply to determine a fair price for the dollar. A price where supply can clear all demand; they do not need to deplete the Foreign Reserves to defend the naira.
The problem is that if they allow the exchange rate to adjust downwards, there will be serious backlash on the new administration. So they are allowing political considerations to influence their monetary policy actions. Well that sounds like something taken out of a television script. If CBN allows the exchange rate to fall without any intervention, how exactly will we support investment or commerce or our economy. When $1 exchanges for N600, how do u import raw materials or pay for goods and services. Inflation will go haywire and spiral out of control. It will be total chaos landing us in deep depression u might never recover from. We certainly dont want to become like Greece |

Bevista: That explanation is plain ridiculous. How can the CBN blame the banks, when they (CBN) are the ones that stopped banks from receiving dollar cash lodgements into domicilary accounts. Where did they expect banks to get FX to meet their international payment obligations, especially with the meagre Dollar sells to BDCs. --- For the records, I fully understand the constraint the CBN is facing from low FX inflow into the Foreign Reserves due to low oil prices, however, the restrictions imposed by the Central Bank are extreme. With a daily limit ranging from $100 to $1000, How do I make a payment of $1500 for my professional exams? Or am I not supposed to write such exams again because the government is on a fvcking mission? --- I believe the current CBN Governor is a weak link in this administration, as he may not providing the president with the right monetary policy options/advice. While there are obvious benefits from the CBN policy, I strongly believe that the NET result of the policy on the economy will be negative. You sort of answered your own question. How do you pay something for some you have no money for. If you pay with your atm, where will your bank get the foreign exchange to do the transaction I agree it is a painfull situation we find ourselves. But this is the reality we have to deal with till we become a real exporting country. And no cbn wasnt blaming anybody, rather just stating the facts |

All those clamouring that PMB should stop travelling have not the slightest clue the job description of Mr President These are not pleasure trips. You can sit in your home and expect investment to just fall on your lap. You can sit in your home and expect to be miraculously relevant in the global scheme of things. The world needs to hear Nigeria speak. Nigeria needs to exert its presence as the giant of Africa. These are what the President is meant to do. He wont secure support for the fight against terrorism by sitting at home and wishing for help. This is what Presidents do. All serious heads of Government must exert themselves in the international community. In all the trips he has undertaken, you see that he is not the only President there. He was with the queen in malta, with president Obama and angela merkel in france and in south Africa he is championing Nigeria's course to secure investment from china. |

[s] bellyjean: No, GEJ was not a disaster, his administration was. We should all be grateful to GEJ that he conceded defeat even before the 'powers that be' (the powers that wanted to drive this country into ruins) in his administration could tamper with the election results.
GEJ knew that the cancer (which he couldn't cure/terminate during his first 4 years) in his cabinet would terminate the life of NIGERIA in no time. Thank God for his courage and humility. He decided to forego his interests for the interests and the greater purpose of NIGERIA (though his wife and those powers were behind the curtains threatening him . I call them saboteurs).
I hate PDP with passion. You know they say 'it will only get worse before it gets better'. GEJ was instrumental in leading us from the inner prison to the door that leads outside; that leads to freedom, to liberty, to honour, to dignity, to light.
God bless President Goodluck Jonathan, God bless the Federal republic of Nigeria.
Why don't we pray that this wind that is Blowing will expose many fowlses yanshes
A word to president Buhari, please make sure you RECOVER ALL. Because if you don't, you have only wasted GeJ's efforts. [/s] Trash! You are part of the problem we talking about....unpaid sychophancy! Nigeria will probably never make as much money from oil as under gej...yet what do we have to show for it? Compare with other oil nations like Saudi Arabia, apart from the 1st amenities they were able to provide for themselves, Saudi is sitting on untouched reserves of more that $800,000,000,000! Whereas GEJ dragged us back into the darkness of poverty and begging |
