RedBenson: Problems of Nigeria has never been the population but specifically bad leaderships. China as an example can times the population of Nigeria 10x and yet thier economy is improving rapidly. Even if Nigeria's population becomes 300million next year, if good governance and proper utility of man-power is judiciously made use of, then we would have nothing to worry about. But in a situation where politicians believe by thier getting to power automatically means fending for themselvs & thier immediate family members while they siphon d rest to thier personal accounts abroad, then ur observation is as true as the postulation of a french renowned biologist (forget his name) who made assertion about evolution, the causes and its effect.

Everything is under the hands of d oga @ the top. So many youths have enterpreneurial ideas that could giv them lucrative returns & remove them from job seekers, but wen they cant raise the needed start up capital demselvs and govt does not extend a supporting hand,what happens then?

Nigeria is not China and will never be China. Why should you cite an example with China? China is trying to reduce her population. Should Nigeria allow her population to rise out of control before realizing it is a problem? Why not start now to work on the population and prevent it from increasing out of hand rather than allowing it to increase and then trying to decrease it.

There is something I think about sometimes that worries me. I decided to put it down here so the experts in the house can tell us if it is something to worry about or not.

Presently we are told that the population of Nigeria is 170 million. We all know that this figure is not static and increases rapidly. Right now, Nigeria has not arrived at the promised land. In fact, the nation is still far from it. The truth as it stands now is that development and progress is still very slow, and it appears that the population is rising faster than the country is progressing. At 170 million, poverty and unemployment is a major issue. Soon this population will increase to 300 million if left unchecked, and as things are going now I doubt if Nigeria would progress far enough to accommodate the extra human beings on Nigerian soil. If survival is tough at N170 million, how tough will it be at 300 million? If our population gets to 300 million without any progress in living conditions then we are sure to face two major disasters as follows:

1. Corruption will increase ten folds cos everyone would be trying so hard to survive the very stiff competition.
2. Crime and deaths will increase so high cos the sitution will turn out to be a do or die for many of those at the bottom that the country cannot cater for via employment.

Considering all stated above, do we have anything to worry about?

This is one reason why super eagles will never be a top team. The only time we know there is a problem with the team is when they lose 5-0 against an European team. When super eagles won AFCON there was nothing wrong with the team.
Super chickens should stop rating themselves with Africa. The should rate themselves with their outcome with European or south American team encounters.

So you're saying, since the chinkos could make these technically-complex components, they could make decent phones. However, they lack the design expertise which makes the user-experience enjoyable and intuitive.

A Lenovo Thinkpad may be more technically more advanced than a MacBookPro, but the Mac gives the user a better experience, and just as important, a feeling of superior status/taste/identity. In this aspect, the chinkos are very lacking.

A macBookPro maybe superior to Thinkpad beacause Apple has the resources to hire the best hands in the world and also pay for the most expensive high-texh and quality components to be used on the mac. The chinese firms dont have that kind of resources to deploy on manufacturing and expertise. With time they will get there anyway. They are only comming up.

onitshaigbo: You got a point there about all these companies basically sourcing parts from the same suppliers. However, and correct me if I'm wrong, the design of a phone is much more than just having the components, it's about how each part is used with respect to memory partition and power usage, etc. It's a real balancing act.

Yes. But its easier to design than bringing the design to reality. If these component manufacturers mess up during the process of bringing designs to reality then that is when we will begin to have fake products.
Apple for instance will only tell corning that produces the gorilla glass that the need a glass protector of a certain shape, size and weight. If corning doesnt get the specification right then the quality of iphones is at stake.

onitshaigbo: True, their quality does get better. But they never set the trend. It's always Apple / Samsung making the pioneer move, and chinko phones doing the chasing.

iPhones and Samsung Galaxy S4's assembled in China cannot count as Chinese in any sense. They could be assembled in Nigeria too if not for the higher cost of logistics and power here.

The truth is that iphone and samsung do not manufacture their phones wholely all by themselves. Especially iphone. Different specialized companies in different countries produce different parts of the phone before they are finally assembled. If chinese Techno for instance gets their parts from these specialized companies then why wouldnt Techno products match iphones and samsungs in quality? What I see is that Techno is sourcing their parts from within china, partly contributing to the low cost. This is a good move that would pay off in future for these chinese companies.
Samsungs and iphones have been in existence long before these chinese phone companies started picking up, so I dont expect them to beat the iphones and samsungs overnight. But one thing is certain, they will get there one day. They are just begining. Beginners dont give high quality at the start.
