Education › Re: Nigerians And Spelling Errors! It Keeps Getting Worse! by blackweaver(m): 5:42pm On Sep 04, 2008
stanloski:
Its not just spellings ma people some use completely different words.

What about a school signboard that said:"We give your children the best education under a SIRENE environment" huh Lets not even talk about our newspapers (newspapers mind you!) You will read about the BURGEONING footballer who was transferred for a WHOOPING sum of money and walked into a restaurant wearing a BOGUS suit and asked for the MENU LIST angry . This same guy is expected to WRECK havoc on opposing defenders huh That he will make money is a MUTE point shocked. ssiiiggghhh! I need a BRAKE from these eye poppers lipsrsealed
emm mr stanloski while i get the point of most of the comments you made i believe you have me at "MENU LIST"
what should it be? MENU? or perhaps some word that i have never heard of but i understand what you say
about newspapers, in fact i believe they are responsible for a lot of the grammatical errors that we observe
nowadays

Programming › Re: Should A Programmer Marry A Programmer? by blackweaver(m): 6:19pm On Sep 03, 2008
i don't know why all of you are making so much noise about a programmer lady,
there are programmer ladies in the world and they do get married so if a lady
programmer can marry a non-programmer and have a happy marriage why not a programmer?
That being said it might make things uncomfortable for the kids when they start growing up
especially if they don't have programming tendencies.
Phones › Re: Why Do Nigerians Prefer Nokia Phones? by blackweaver(m): 2:52pm On Sep 03, 2008
I presently use the Nokia E50, before that i used the Sony Ericsson K750i
Next phone i intend to get is the E51
I think i prefer the Nokia Series, first of all there;s more variety;
beyond that i fiind it annoying if every other day i see the type of my phone with
someone. When i had he k750 two other people had the phone in my office
and when i still sometimes see the phone outside. i have absolutely no regrets
about selling it at 2/3rds of the price less than a month after buying it. As for the
E50, i think 3 people have it in my office but i haven't seen it with anyone outside.
The phone is just not popular - the way i like it and for all its shortcomings:
it can be annoyingly slow, is not 3g compliant, no radio, 1.3 mpixel camera, it still has features that i haven't
seen on many phones - like being useable even without a sim (of course you can't make
calls in that situation) and can see the details of my calls for the last 30 days (including the call duration)
and i hear the E51 doesn't have the limitations i listed. ok they are mid - range phones but for E-series,
they are about the cheapest you can get
Family › Re: Your Wife Or Your Extended Family by blackweaver(m): 1:04pm On Sep 02, 2008
easy question 4 me, am not particularly close with my extended family,
even my nuclear family know that i like being on my own - without
family interference.
Nuclear family always comes first and once one is married that becomes the
nuclear, any other is extended
Computers › Re: Which Among These Is Best For Internet Browsing. by blackweaver(m): 9:54am On Aug 29, 2008
personally i say that anyone who uses i.e. is not much of a pc user
pre -ie7 browsers don't come with tabbed browsing which was started with opera
some over 10 years ago, besides ie is only a windows thing. one thing i used to
like about ie was that it wasn't only a browser, it was also a ile manager i.e. i could use
ie to view my computer instead of windows explorer, which is petty helpful if your explorer gets messed up
and vice versa. With ie7 that functionality has been dropped. what rubbish
i generally use firefox or opera. unfortunately opera doesn't have the following that firefox and ie
have so that it may not be able to view some pages properly that ie and firefox would have - although this also makes
it open pages faster that the two others most times, however
as far as i know it is the browser that has been ported to most platforms, even mobile and it has a better in built
download manager that firefox and explorer.
firefox has many of the benefits of opera though it's download manager is not as reliable.
conclusion: for me it's either opera or firefox

Nairaland General › Re: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by blackweaver(m): 5:41pm On Mar 27, 2008
i think snakes are fascinating creatures,
i've never kept a snake and i don't intend to keep one
but if i have a friend that keeps one and can convince me that it's non-venomous i don't see any reason not to play with it
Programming › Re: Java Has Failed! by blackweaver(m): 4:40pm On Mar 27, 2008
Personally i don't believe that java is dead , i'm not a java fan and i'm not a java pro either but i'm yet to see anything to convince me that java's dead or dying.
personally i prefer c/c++ but the truth is as has been said java is more portable. Then there's C#, i've heard people say M/S did on "fast 1 behind Sun's back" with C#. Personally i think it's more like java than C/C++ and now people are begining to port the .net to other oses with the mono project which means very soon .net programs will be as portable for java - if they aren't already. For all that i still think java has ways to go before "dying". Yeah i feel it's quite annoying that java based programs seem to be slower than native os programs but i think what determines whether a program/programming language lives or dies is the followers and the developers. I don't think Sun is ready to drop Java anytime soon and as can be seen from some of the replies here java has a strong followership so at the end it all boils down to one question: Do you like java or not? for me as i've said before it's ok but i prefer c/c++/c#. Everyone's entitled to his/her opinion

>>What are three things woman can do that men
>>can’t?

>>First: we can give milk without eating grass.

well even if we men ate grass i don't think we would be able to give milk anyway
i think it's cows that do that

>>Second: we can bleed a week without dying.

i've cut myself on more than one occasion and in most cases the
part where i cut myself bled. as of now i am yet to die from bleeding

>>Third : we can bury a bone without digging

this i am confused perhaps someone who understands this statement can explain it to me

Politics › Re: Is The Average Nigerian Fraudulent? by blackweaver(m): 5:10pm On Jul 20, 2007
i Dont believe that Nigerians are particularly more fraudulent thatn other nationalitites, however i've got to admit that many Nigerians were brought up in an environment where one can cheat , defraud and get away with it , also there's this poverty mentality, everyone likes money and a many people will do almost anything for it, now put an american, no matter what his color in nigeria and give him the same upbringin as the average fraudulent nigerian and u'll have exactly the same result
Everyone is entitled to his opinion, but generally the people i have been close to are people on whose bed i can put money  and expect to find the money the next day (no matter how much, in fact the larger the money the greater the chance of finding it next day) --"birds of s feather" so if u don't trust ur best friend it's very likely u're not trustworthy urself

Culture › Re: Thunder Bolt (Magun): Myth Or Reality? by blackweaver(m): 6:27pm On Jan 09, 2007
i believe it's possible, after all i've heard enough stories of jazz being made to make a man run mad - unless u guys don't believe that either, i once saw a woman strip down naked in full view (okay i didn't acsually see her strip but her clothes could be seen on the floor and she walked across the road butt naked, everyone was staring at her, i just walked away nyself, later on as i passed by i saw that she had put in her clothes and seemed to be in control of her faculties ? (must have been very embarassing for the woman); now if that's not spiritual, what is it?
Computers › Re: My Computer Freezes Abnormally (what Can I Do) by blackweaver(m): 6:00pm On Jan 09, 2007
Fdeveloper:
have you considered the possibility that it's a hardware fault that's causing the problem?
i agree that is probably the case especially since it's been reformatted; what kind of hardware do you have? p2/p3/p4 etc, what's the clock speed? 1ghz? more? less?
also i would recommend that when next you start it, go to the bios settings (you'll probably have to press f2 or delete or some other button when ur pc is just coming on.) check the hardware monitor and see the cpu watch the cpu temperature for a while; if it exceeds 70 degrees u probably need to change ur cpu fan or it might be something else there

Travel › Re: Hurray: Benin To Lagos Is Now 7 Hours! by blackweaver(m): 7:04pm On Oct 30, 2006
personally i don't think the government 'spent' that much money to fix that road but i'm shocked at you people, we all know that electricity is erratic in Nigeria 'cos powerful pple are making money from the sale of generators; isn't it obvious that some powerful people are making money from the sale of car spare parts grin therefore they are not willing to have that road repaired and if they want to travel to the east they can always fly - though that may not be such a viable option with the recent adc airline crash incident
Computers › Re: Take the Linux IQ test by blackweaver(m): 4:01pm On Mar 17, 2006
You are a LINUX MASTER
(9 of 10 questions correct)

You may be the type to compile your own kernel. You're certainly no novice. We have a feeling you'll enjoy ZDNet's Linux IT area.

AbujaBoy:
Hahaha, this is a joke. You're a real Linux Network Admin when you edit the sendmail conf :p
my thoughts exactly, so okay i have recompiled my kernel but it doesn't mean a thing, after all i just followed the instructions given in the install file haha i havn't even configured my network card -although that's 'cos i have no network.
Programming › Re: Java Has Failed! by blackweaver(m): 1:28pm On Mar 17, 2006
actually i don't think java is a very difficult language, as sbucareermentioned, try to rewrite that line of code in C/C++ actually i'm still more or less just learning both languages and am more familiar with C++ however i think making headway in java is easier; also, yes c/c++ used to be noticeably faster than java but i've heard that java's catching up.
Computers › Re: I Need Linux CDs by blackweaver(m): 1:13pm On Mar 17, 2006
depending on the type of distro u want u might want to do what i did; i presently use slackware, originally all i did was download Basic Linux 2 which is a very scaled down (2 -floppy) version of slackware 7.1 then i started downloading modules from the main distro; that way i have a full distro from scratch

Phones › Re: "0806" Phone Numbers on MTN Nigeria Network by blackweaver(m): 4:40pm On May 24, 2005
seun:
MTN Nigeria does not have 10 million subscribers, so it is either:
[li]For some reason, they have decided not to use all the numbers in the 0803 range, or[/li][li]They have a special plan for the 0806 prefix and are going to be providing phone lines having both prefixes[/li]
We will definitely be hearing more from MTN in the next few weeks.
personally i have no problem with the idea but like Seun said, i guess they have some reserved lines, for instance we all know that mtn staff use 0803200****, perhaps they have some reserved lines for other major clients; however i don't understand why anyone will take them to task over the issue after all even calling within the network u still type the whole 11 numbers; if they think it's necessary, leave them alone
Phones › Re: Internet Over Bluetooth by blackweaver(m): 4:32pm On May 24, 2005
i'm going to deviate a little off the subject, i was thinking some time ago that it would be nice if they enabled some sort of intercom communication on phones that support bluetooth i realise that at 10m range it isn't really worth it but if a version that had up to 100m range was developed, you could talk to ur next door neighbour without going to his house and for free; what do u pple think of it?
Romance › Re: Why are Women Not Crazy About Tall Men? by blackweaver(m): 12:51pm On May 23, 2005
Personally i don't blame ladies (to a degree) i myself prefer ladies that are shorter than myself (would be embarasssing if in an argument the girl conveniently gives me a knock on the head - actually it's more than that) but a man is supposed to be the head of the family and it's easier to defer to someone who is taller than u. The only issue i have is those not tall women who prefer very tall guys - though they could also argue that they don't want their children to be so tall
