Politics › BREAKING: Saraki, Dogara, 51 Others Defection Unlawful, Court Rules by BleedingPen(op): 12:31pm On May 17, 2019
The defection of 53 lawmakers in the National Assembly to other political parties is unlawful, rules the Federal High Court.

Delivering judgement on Friday, Justice Okon Abang held that based on the judgement of the Supreme Court, which gave reasons that would allow for defection, the lawmakers did not meet that requirement.

Igbere TV reports that the judgement followed a suit filed by the Legal Defence Assistance Project (LEDAP), challenging the defection of the Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and 51 other lawmakers.

LEDAP had asked the court to order the lawmakers to vacate their seats in the National Assembly and return all salaries and allowances earned since their defection, arguing that the lawmakers defected from their political parties for selfish reasons other than division in their parties as prescribed by law.

But in the case of one of the lawmakers, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Justice Abang held that he is not in violation of the law because he neither decamped nor defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the facts before the court.

The court had on Monday, granted leave to Senator Akpabio to file an application challenging the suit by LEDAP, saying that there is no evidence before it that he was personally served, since the suit is not a class act against the Senate.

Politics › Police Arrest Suspected Boko Haram Members In Edo by BleedingPen(op): 12:13am On May 17, 2019
The Police in Edo State on Thursday said they had arrested four suspected members of the deadly Boko Haram sect.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed DanMallam, disclosed this in a statement in Benin.

The Police chief told Igbere TV that the arrested members of the sect had escaped into the state after perpetrating heinous crimes in neighbouring Kogi.

DanMallam said the suspects were nabbed on a tip-off in their hide-out in Afuze, Edo North Senatorial District.

He said on interrogation, one of the suspects confessed to having killed 40 of his victims, while another confessed to having escaped from Koton Karfi Prison in 2014, and also participated in an armed robbery in Ekiti in 2013.

He however said that the suspects would be handed over to the Police in Kogi for further interrogation as their crimes were perpetrated in that state.

DanMallam also said that since the inauguration of “Operation Puff Adder” in the state on May 2, the command had recorded some achievements in the fight against crime and criminality.

He said 34 suspects had been arrested in connection with armed robbery, and four others apprehended in connection with kidnapping.

He added that 32 suspected cultists had been arrested since the operation began and that 10 different arms and 215 ammunitions were recovered.

The police chief disclosed that nine victims were rescued from suspected kidnappers, while 11 vehicles were also recovered.

He said the fight against crime was continuous and that the command was committed to reducing the cases in the state to the barest minimum.

DanMallam said that it was untrue that any life was lost in the clash by cult groups in Benin on Monday.

According to him, nobody died during the cult clash around Murtala Mohammed Way, but there was an attempt by some cultists to cause trouble, but we got credible information and the police team repelled them.

“We arrested two of them who are still with us and under investigation because they are from rival groups.”

Crime › Gunmen Kidnap Eight, Demand N50 Million Ransom by BleedingPen(op): 12:06am On May 17, 2019
No fewer than eight persons have been abducted in Kanoma town of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen, Igbere TV learnt on Thursday.

Narrating the incident, a resident of the town, Alhaji Ibrahim Kanoma, said the bandits invaded the town around 1am on Monday and shot sporadically to scare the inhabitants.

Ibrahim disclosed that the bandits abducted 24 persons but later released 16 of them “because they looked very wretched” and went away with eight.
According to him, after several phone calls, the bandits were demanding the sum of N50m before they could release the victims.

Confirming the incident to Igbere TV on the telephone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Shehu, said the victims were abducted in Kanoma town around 1am on Monday.

The PPRO said on hearing the attack, the command mobilised a team of policemen to pursue the hoodlums in order to rescue the victims.
Meanwhile, a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheik Ahmad Umar Kanoma, has appealed to the relevant authorities to urgently do something to rescue the victims.

Speaking with Igbere TV, he also called on the government at all levels to find a lasting solution to the security problem ravaging the state.
Kanoma, who described the insecurity problem in the state as a “time bomb”, called on the Muslims to intensify prayers for God’s intervention.

Politics › Fayose, PDP React To Sack Of 2,000 Workers In Ekiti by BleedingPen(op): 9:07pm On May 16, 2019
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the sack of 2,000 workers appointed by him shortly before leaving office.

Igbere TV had previously reported that Governor Fayemi Kayode on Thursday, approved the sack of 2,000 staff appointed by Fayose after the July 2018 governoship election.

The decision, according to a statement made available to Igbere TV, followed deliberations by the State Exective Council (SEC) on the report of the committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, that reviewed ‘irregular appointments’ made between 2014 and 2018.

The government declared that their recruitment did not follow due process and was politically lopsided to give undue advantage to the cronies of the former governor.

Reacting, former governor Fayose described the action by Gov. Fayemi-led government as “height of wickedness and political vendetta.”

He called on all the affected civil servants not to be disillusioned, but to approach the court to challenge the State Government’s decision.

Fayose, who spoke through his Spokesman, Lere Olayinka, on Thursday in Ado Ekiti, said “sacking of people duly engaged in the service by a duly constituted government was most unfortunate.”

He however, said that the incumbent governor, by the action, had succeeded in writing his name in the history books of Ekiti as one who inflicted sorrow on the people.

“He has demonstrated this by sacking Ekiti people who were duly employed by the state government.

“Whoever that applauds this show of wickedness will be reminded in future when actions of Fayemi will also be reviewed.

“As for those who have now become victims of this act of wickedness and political vendetta, they should enforce their rights to seek redress in the court of law,” he said.

On its part, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a statement, described the action as “insensitive, ungodly and anti-people.”

The statement issued on Thursday in Ado Ekiti and sighted by Igbere TV, was signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Jackson Adebayo.

Politics › Lady Commits Suicide After Majority Voted For Her To Die In An Instagram Poll by BleedingPen(op): 7:58pm On May 15, 2019
A teenager has taken her own life after majority of her followers Instagram voted for her to die, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV gathered that the Malaysian teenager had taken to her Instagram page to ask followers if she should die or live.

“Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L,” the 16-year-old girl asked her followers.

Police Chief, Aidil Bolhassan said she was found dead at the bottom of a building in the city of Kuching, on the island of Borneo.

According to him, the “D” stood for “death” while “L” stood for “life”.

“As many as 69 per cent of the teenager’s Instagram friends had supported the decision for her to kill herself via a voting poll,” he said.

He said she appeared to have jumped to her death from the third floor of a shopping centre.

“We are conducting a post-mortem to determine whether there were other factors in her death,” he said, adding that the girl had a history of depression.

Ramkarpal Singh, a lawyer and member of parliament, said that those who voted for the teenager to die could be guilty of abetting suicide.

“Would the girl still be alive today if the majority of citizens on her Instagram account discouraged her from taking her own life? Would she have heeded the advice of citizens to seek professional help had they done so?”

Igbere TV gathered that under Malaysian law, anyone convicted of abetting the suicide of a minor could face the death penalty or up to 20 years in jail.

Saddiq Abdul Rahman, Malaysia’s Youth and Sports minister, also called for an investigation into the girl’s death and highlighted the need for national-level discussions about mental health in the country.

“It is very unfortunate a young life was lost in this manner,” he said.

Police do not believe anybody else was involved in the teenager’s death.

Our correspondent reports that her body has been taken to the Sarawak General Hospital, Forensic Department for a postmortem.

Igbere TV recalls that in February, Instagram announced that it would add “sensitivity screens” to block images that promote self-harm or suicide.

The screens will blur the image behind them until the user explicitly indicates they want to view the graphic content.

The move came in the wake of the death of British teenager Molly Russell, whose parents said she took her own life at the age of 14 after looking at self-harm posts on Instagram.

Politics › Senate Rejects The Establishment Of Maritime University Of Nigeria, Lokoja by BleedingPen(op): 10:28pm On May 09, 2019
The Senate on Thursday rejected a bill proposing the establishment of Maritime University of Nigeria, Lokoja.

Igbere TV reports that the bill which was listed for second reading at plenary, was sponsored by Senator Isaac Alfa (PDP, Kogi).

Our correspondent at the National Assembly Complex reports that the bill was rejected by lawmakers through voice vote.

While making their contributions, the lawmakers had advised the sponsor of the bill to withdraw it following several reasons including the need for more work to be done.

Alfa however, refused to withdraw the bill, saying he had done a lot of work on it.

He instead urged the lawmakers not to attach geographical location and other sentiments to the bill.

On his part, Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano North) noted that there was a new federal university in Lokoja, while suggesting that the proposed maritime university should be sited in another riverine community of the same state.

Adding his voice, Senator Olusola Adeyeye (APC, Osun), said there was no need for the university, adding that universities across the country were poorly funded.

“You create universities and get under funding. I will continue to oppose every new university until old ones are funded.

“Let the universities in the maritime areas create maritime faculties. We should not embark on 419 for our children until old ones are funded,” Adeyeye said.

Senator Biodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti), therefore, called on the sponsor of the bill to withdraw and do more work on it.

President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, thereafter, put the bill to a voice vote and the nays had it.

Politics › REVEALED: See How Much Abia State Govt Owe Health Workers’ by BleedingPen(op): 10:00pm On May 09, 2019
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Thursday said Abia State Government owed doctors and other health workers at the Abia State Teaching Hospital up to 13-month salaries.

The NMA also said members of the state Hospital Management Board had not been paid for 10 months.

Igbere TV reports that president of the association, Dr. Francis Faduyile made the revelation in Abuja, while reading the communique issued at the end of the 59th Annual General Conference and delegates’ meeting of the NMA, which was held in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Faduyile noted that the salary of Nigerian doctors was abysmally lower than what their counterparts get in other countries, stating that the NMA would appear at the next meeting of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum to discuss the issue with governors.

The NMA Boss disclosed that the Imo State Government pays only 70 percent salaries to doctors and other health workers in the state since September 2015, saying, “the medical body frowns at such development.”

He called on the police and other security agencies to secure the release of two doctors kidnapped in Taraba State — Dr Sunday Oduniya and Dr Audu Sule, adding that the two doctors were still being held even after the ransom demanded was paid.

“We have been working round the clock to ensure the release of the doctors. Unfortunately, after meeting the demands of the kidnappers, they are not released. We believe that with improved security arrangement, our doctors would have been released,” he said.

Faduyile decried what he described as ‘criminalization of Nigerian doctors,’ noting that all grievances relating to the medical and dental practice should be directed to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

Politics › “EFCC Can't Probe My Government” — Gov. Wike Blows Hot by BleedingPen(op): 7:17pm On May 09, 2019
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has declared that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has no powers to investigate financial transactions of his government.

He said before the EFCC can investigate his government, the anti-graft agency must first vacate a Federal High Court judgment that declared that it cannot investigate the financial transactions of the Rivers State Government.

The governor made the declaration on Thursday when he received the Group Managing Director (Designate) of Zenith Bank, Ebenezer Onyeagwu.

“EFCC has no powers to look into our financial transactions. You cannot be giving our financial transactions to the EFCC, because that it is illegal.

“Unless the EFCC sets aside the judgment, they have no powers to look into our financial transactions. Not that we are afraid, but due process must be followed.”

He said that if Zenith Bank refuses to obey the Court judgment, Rivers State Government will be compelled to file the necessary processes to ensure that the right thing is done.

Wike congratulated Onyeagwu on his appointment as the Group Managing Director (Designate) of the Zenith Bank, stating that his appointment was due to commitment and hardwork.

On his part, Onyeagwu congratulated the Rivers State Governor on his re-election, adding that “everyone of us in Zenith Bank is very pleased over the success you have recorded . We also want to use this opportunity to congratulate you on your victory at the last election and wish for a glorious second term”.

On the reason for his visit, the Zenith Bank GMD Designate said he was in Rivers State to inform the Governor that he would take over the leadership of the bank on June 1, 2019.

Crime › Kidnapped OAU Professor Reveals How Much Was Paid For His Release by BleedingPen(op): 7:31pm On May 07, 2019
Prof. Olayinka Adegbehingbe, the Obafemi Awolowo University lecturer who was kidnapped on Sunday, has revealed that N5.045 million was paid to secure his release.

Adegbehingbe made the disclosure on Tuesday in an interview with newsmen at his Ile-Ife residence.

The university don, who said he was hale and hearty, attributed his release to the power of God.

He said the kidnappers, whom he described as herdsmen, had initially demanded N30 million but later collected N5.045m after much negotiation.

He condemned the level of insecurity across the country, saying majority of the youths were jobless and had now resorted to crime.

He called for community policing as well as provision of employment for the youths, saying “idle hands are the devil’s workshop.’’

“The federal government needs to invest more in security; we need to know the identity of people coming in and going out of the town, state and the country at large,” he said.

“The people who abducted me were herdsmen and they had four guns and multiple rounds of ammunition as well as different dangerous weapons.

“I also thank the security operatives, the entire OAU and OAUTHC communities, our families, church members and all other well wishers for their prayers and other support rendered.”

Education › Strike: UNIBEN Pharmacy Students Protest, Storm Oba Of Benin's Palace (Photos) by BleedingPen(op): 4:12pm On May 07, 2019
Strike: UNIBEN Pharmacy students take protest to Oba’s palace

... Benin Monarch to intervene

... Students, shuttle drivers beat management to their game

Pharmacy students of the University of Benin, Monday took to the palace of the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II to register their grievances over the industrial action embarked upon by academic staff in their faculty, CAMPUS GIST reports.

The protest comes few weeks after a similar peaceful match they staged at the university main campus, April 23.

CAMPUS GIST learnt that the decision of the lecturers to embark on strike is due to non-payment of their earned professional allowances by management of the institution.

Already, the induction ceremony of the faculty which ought to hold April 26, had to be cancelled.

Our correspondent reports that academic activities in the faculty had been put on hold since the strike started, and till date, not much has been done by the authority towards ending the industrial action.

A short video clip obtained by CAMPUS GIST, showed the entrance gate of the palace with throngs of students displaying placards with various inscriptions.

According to a reliable source, who is also one of the protesters, the students resolved to hold public protests when efforts to seek the understanding of the university management failed.

The source, who asked for anonymity for fear of being punished by the school, said management had already concluded plans to shut down the faculty after a meeting with the aggrieved lecturers.

His words, “We gathered in the school as early as 9.00am to proceed to the palace. But I don't know how management got wind of the information, so they ordered policemen to block the main gate obviously in a bid to stop us from leaving campus. They were interrogating students, those going out, checking ID cards to see if they were Pharmacy students or not. So we decided to make use of the Anatomy (back) gate leading to the Teaching Hospital. But, again, school got wind of our plan and the officers left for UBTH main gate. We got wind of their move and called on some shuttle drivers to take us to the palace instead. We were able to maneuver our way out, to the palace.

“But getting there, we met yet another strong resistance. The officers tried to stop us from entering but through dialogue, we were able to buy our way in. We waited for some hours before we were able to establish contact with the Personal Assistant to the Secretary to the Monarch. We were asked to submit some letters, which we did, but demanded to see the Oba. So, we stayed back, even though some persons got tired and left.

“While waiting, at about 3.00pm, we started agitating to get the attention of the Monarch. Though the police (palace security) threatened to use force to eject us from the palace saying we had no rights to be there, we, however, stood our ground. We told them we had rights to be there as Oba’s children, after all ‘uni of BENIN’ is part of his kingdom.

“At about 6pm, the palace chiefs came out from a meeting (with the Oba) to address us. After our discussions, they went back to communicate with the Monarch. The Oba, upon hearing we are students and due to his love for education, invited us into the main palace where he heard our grievances and appeal.

“On our way back to school, we were told that management had threatened to sanction the shuttle drivers that took us to the palace, that they won't allow them work within the school premises anymore. So the drivers had to stop very far away from the school for fear of being penalized. And we had to find our way back to campus ourselves.

“There were threats from every angle; intimidation and oppression. Police called interrogating some of us, wanting to know those who participated in the palace visit. But we stood our ground, even in the midst of intimidation and oppression. Every Pharmacy student that stayed up till 7pm that we saw the Oba and left the palace will forever remain heroes and heroines in the faculty.”

Asked about the details of their meeting with the Monarch, our source declared, “I may not be able to give the details of the meeting for now because the struggle is still ongoing but at the appropriate time, we will talk.”

A highly placed source, however, revealed that the Monarch promised to intervene in the matter, adding that a meeting had already been fixed between the Oba and the VC.

When contacted, the Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Mike Uhunwangho declined comment. He instead directed our correspondent to speak with the university Spokesman, Osasuyi Michael. But several calls placed to Michael's phone lines rang out.

However, an official of the institution's National Association of Pharmacists in Academia (NAPA) called on the management to meet their demands.

“They are already politicizing the whole thing,” he declared.

The ongoing industrial action is not the first in the UNIBEN faculty of Pharmacy. CAMPUS GIST recalls that the faculty had on the 2nd of July, 2018 embarked on a warning strike to drive home their demands over non-payment of their earned allowances.

The protest was, however, suspended after six weeks following an “agreement” between the striking lecturers and management of the university.

Politics › Peter Obi Sick, Goes To Hospital by BleedingPen(op): 10:25am On May 07, 2019
Former governor of Anambra and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice-Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi is ill.

He had on Monday, visited Queen of the Rosary Hospital, Onitsha, where his blood samples were taken to run some tests.

He was also admitted for few hours where he received treatments for an undisclosed ailment.

Contacted, Obi’s Media Aide, ‎Valentine Obienyem said that his principal has since returned back to work.

“He only complained of being a little feverish. Yes, he visited the hospital but has since returned and gone back to work.

“Like every human being, he gets sick. But what struck me this afternoon was that one of his friends that visited him, who also learnt that he visited the hospital, argued so vehemently that for a person like him, any sign of discomfort should see him of the UK for good care.

“I watched in amusement when Mr. Peter Obi disagreed with him by telling him that the urge to travel is because our leaders neglect the health sector.”

He quoted Obi as saying, “There are many hospitals I can confidently visit when ever in Anambra State. I can visit Odumegwu-Ojukwu Teaching Hospital at Awka, we got it accredited. I can visit the General Hospital at Onitsha, we also got it accredited. Mr… Know it today that Peter Obi can visit Our Lady of Lourdes, Ihiala; Queen of Rosary, Onitsha; Borromeo, Onitsha; St. Joseph, Adazi-Nnukwu; Diocesan Hospital, Amichi.

“Why do I say so? I know the resources our Government committed to these hospitals and I can testify the level of their improvement before we left office. If leaders sustain such efforts, in 20 years, nobody should be talking of medical tourism. I went to Waterside and received fantastic treatment. I spent not up to 1/30th of what I would have spent If I travelled.

“Remember to add the flight ticket and other expenses. This is exactly my argument when we started supporting mission hospitals – these hospitals are in Anambra State and primarily treat people from the state.”

Politics › Garba Madami: I Was Offered Money To Compromise 2019 Elections — INEC REC by BleedingPen(op): 11:49am On May 06, 2019
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara State, Garba Madami on Monday said he resisted money offered by politicians to compromise the just concluded 2019 general elections in the state.

Madami disclosed this while speaking with newsmen after his daughter’s wedding in Minna.

His words: “There was pressure by politicians who offered me money to compromise the 2019 general elections in Kwara state but I stood my ground and refused to give in.

“The nature of our job at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is too tempting.

“It is left between you and God to do the right thing and keep your integrity or compromise and lose your integrity. You may even go to jail.”

He decried money politics and a situation where politicians think they can buy peoples conscience to do their dirty work.

“The politicians have money and some of them feel that they can buy anybody with the money.

“It is a matter of integrity, it is left for you to be careful and work transparently to keep your integrity.

“What I did in Kwara state before the elections was to go on air and tell the people that no amount of money can buy me.

“I made them to understand that their votes will count and was not ready to compromise,” he said.

Politics › JUST IN: Army Bans Use Of Okada In Some States (See Why, Full List) by BleedingPen(op): 9:15pm On May 05, 2019
The Nigeria Army has banned the use of motorcycles, popularly called ‘Okada’ in seven Northern states.

This, the Military said, is in furtherance of its efforts at curtailing the murderous activities of armed bandits and kidnappers in Northern Nigeria.

The affected states are Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna and Niger.

Colonel Sagir Musa, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Sunday.

Explaining the reason for the ban in the statement which he made available to Igbere TV, Musa said that perpetrators of criminal acts made use of the Okada.

Full Statement,

“The Nigerian Army (NA) over time has observed the use of motorcycles by armed bandits, kidnappers, criminal elements and their collaborators as enablers to perpetrate their heinous crimes especially in the states within the north west geopolitical zone of the country.

“This informed the decision and directive to ban the use of motorcycles within the hinterland particularly around the Forests where the armed bandits, criminals and kidnappers hibernate and all around where troops are conducting operations alongside other security agencies.

“While this may cause some inconveniences to some law abiding citizens in the area, the need to use all means possible to stop the dastardly activities of these bandits across the North West part of Nigeria needs no emphasis.

“The general public, particularly in the North West and some parts of North Central in Nigeria where Ex HARBIN KUNAMA is ongoing are enjoined to bear with the NA as concerted efforts are being made to combat the insecurity menace ongoing within the area.

“In this wise, it is hereby reiterated that the use of motorcycles remain banned within the forest areas in KANO, KATSINA, ZAMFARA, SOKOTO, KADUNA, KEBBI and NIGER States. Anyone caught using motorcycles within the named areas will be taken for an armed bandit, criminal and kidnapper with dire consequences.

“The respective State Governments are enjoined to please disseminate the ban on the use of motorcycles in the named areas and enforce the ban in conjunction with the Security Agencies.”

Sports › Ex Football Star Turns Rapper, Releases New Song by BleedingPen(op): 2:38pm On May 05, 2019
Brazil’s former football star, Ronaldinho has found a second calling after retiring from professional football.

The ex-FC Barcelona star has released a song along with Brazilian singer Jorge Vercillo decrying corruption in their country.

The 2005 Golden Ball award winner appears in a video, recorded in a studio, wearing a black beret and a white tank top emblazoned with the image of Saint George slaying a dragon.

Halfway through the duet, he plays drums, then breaks out in a 30-second rap solo.

“Love is our game, from start to finish, in my heart there are no longer enemies,” he raps.

He then asks the armor-clad Christian saint to slay “the dragon of greed” and corruption, while a chorus bemoans the squandering of public funds in detriment of “schools and hospitals.”

Igbere TV reports that 39-year-old Ronaldinho quitted professional football in January 2018.

Since then, Igbere TV gathered, the ex-football star has also performed with Tunisian rapper, K2rhym.

He was featured in the official World Cup 2018 song performed by Will Smith, Nicky Jam and Era Istrefi.

Ronaldinho even made a surprise appearance playing drums at the World Cup closing ceremony at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

The famous midfielder however is not free of controversy. In November 2018, a court ordered that his passport and that of his brother Roberto be withheld for failing to pay a $2.3 million fine for environmental damage incurred during the building of property in Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil.

And during last year’s presidential campaign, he joined the far-right PRB party and threw his support behind their candidate Jair Bolsonaro.

Bolsonaro, who was elected on a sweeping promise to fight corruption, has faced his own scandals since taking office in January.

Crime › Overzealous Police Officers 'commit Sacrilege' In Edo (photo) by BleedingPen(op): 1:01pm On May 02, 2019
Just like every other arrests of hapless citizens carried out by the police resorting to huge amount of money in securing bail, this particular arrest and detention of a traditional ruler in Benin Kingdom shocked the Edo state police command and unsettled the Kingdom.

Igbere TV reliably gathered that in Benin Kingdom, there is a priest called 'Ohen'ukoni' or 'Oba N'ikhuen' who is prohibited by Benin tradition and custom not to set his foot in Benin City or see face-to-face with the Oba of Benin. It's believed that, whenever he sees face-to-face with the Oba, the “unimaginable” would happen.

Few days ago, acting on a petition, the state police command were said to have invaded his palace located along Auchi-Benin Expressway in Uhunwonde Local Government Area to arrest him.

According to our source, upon the arrival of the police, the traditional ruler informed them that he is not allowed to enter Benin City owing to the dire consequences to the Kingdom.

“The officers were adamant and took his warning with a pinch of salt, saying, ‘nothing dey happen.’

“They even boasted that they can arrest anybody including Mr. President,” a source told Igbere TV.

“They forcefully brought him to the command and detained him.”

Igbere TV gathered that as soon as he stepped his foot in Benin city, the Kingdom got the signs which resulted to a heavy rainfall experienced on the said day. It was also gathered that the Benin Monarch got the signs and the uneasy tension set in.

Our source disclosed that, “It became more serious when it occurred to the police command that, the suspect in their custody is not just a mere one but a VIP in the kingdom as soon as they began to hear incantations in their premises and several dogs were slaughtered too in different locations within the command...”

Igbere TV, however, gathered that the traditional ruler has since been released but the tension and dust raised are yet to settle even as the petitioner is on the run.

“The matter is still hot presently as there must be some spiritual cleansing of the Kingdom,” our source added.

Efforts by Igbere TV to reach the Spokesman of the Palace for comments were unsuccessful. But a source familiar with the scheme of things confirmed the incident.

Police in Katsina State on Wednesday said the suspects in connection with the abduction of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Aide de Camp (ADC)’s father-in-law, have been arrested.

The State Commissioner of Police and Police patrol team were said to have later arrived the scene and arrested some of the suspects.

Igbere TV, however, gathered that one police officer was hit during a gun-duel with the kidnappers.

“The state Commissioner of police, CP Sanusi Buba, along with police patrol teams immediately arrived at the scene.

“Police patrol teams at Kusada Division Katsina State intercepted the hoodlums and engaged them in a gun duel and as a result of which one Inspector Muntari Maikudi attached to Kusada Division sustained a gunshot injury and was rushed to the Federal Medical Center Katsina for treatment.

Crime › Heavy Gunmen Storm Girls’ School In Zamfara, Kidnap Teachers, Students by BleedingPen(op): 10:43am On May 02, 2019
Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked a secondary school in Zamfara state, kidnapping some teachers and students in the process.

BBC Hausa reports that the bandits struck at the Government Girls Secondary School, Moriki, in Zurü Local Government Area, on Wednesday night, and opened fire immediately.

They were said to have killed one man in the process and abducted two teachers and four nursing students.

It was, however, gathered that the gunmen were unable to gain access to where the majority of the students were sleeping.

The incident, according to report, happened while residents were watching the UEFA Champions league match between Liverpool and Barcelona.

Efforts by Igbere TV to reach the village heads and police in the area for comments were unsuccessful.

Zamfara State has been under heavy attack by bandits in the past few years.

But the attacks have heightened in 2019 despite efforts by the security agencies and the government to address the situation.

Just recently, Igbere TV reported that the Federal Government had to put a stop to ongoing mining in the state, and ordered foreign miners to leave immediately owing to the security challenges.

Meanwhile, The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) says it has combed and bombarded all areas in the state serving as hideouts for bandits and recorded huge success in the fight against the hoodlums.

Though, traditional rulers have accused NAF of killing "innocent citizens" in the process, a claim which did not go down well with the NAF authorities.

A committee was recently set up to investigate and look into the allegations.

Politics › Governor-elect Sends Strong Message To Outgoing Governor (MUST READ) by BleedingPen(op): 9:54pm On May 01, 2019
Oyo State Governor-elect, Engr. Seyi Makinde has warned against any action taken by the outgoing administration in the state that has effects beyond the May 29 handover date.

He warned that such actions will be considered to be in bad faith.

Makinde gave the warning in a letter addressed to the outgoing governor of the state, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi on Tuesday.

In the letter which was sighted by Igbere TV Wednesday night, the governor-elect also called on Ajimobi to rein in his appointees, who he accused of engaging in activities that could hamper the take-off of his government on May 29.

Makinde particularly accused the state’s Pilgrims Board of announcing plans beyond May 29, when the tenure of the Ajimobi-led government would have ended.

He also referred to the alleged instruction given to Local Government Chairmen to mop up the stabilisation account, describing it as another move by the government to scuttle the transition process.

“Your Excellency, since March 11 this year and 48 hours after the gubernatorial election, I have observed serial infractions that connote efforts to thwart smooth transition come May 29, 2019 under the guise of spurious legitimacy.

“I have highlighted some of them to the public through my campaign office, including but not limited to deliberate haste to rush out fresh contracts, backed with mobilisation running into billions of naira even while other residual issues of more importance were crying for attention.

“The instruction to the LG chairmen to mop up the Stabilisation Account which was strategic savings is also one of the infractions I refer to.

“I wish to draw your attention to yet another development in similar manner presently playing out at the Oyo State muslim wing of the Pilgrims Welfare Board, which continues to make far-reaching plans and even radio announcements in relation to the board’s activities beyond May 29, 2019, when it is crystal clear that the tenure of this outgoing government ends on the above-stated date.

“While the chairman and the board are still well within their rights to function in that capacity till the end of this outgoing administration, it is however unacceptable and mischievous for the board to be making long-term plans that are well beyond May 29, 2019 with regards to the coming hajj operations, as my administration will not be bound to accept any of these arrangements, including transportation, accommodation and welfare of Oyo State pilgrims for the coming hajj operations.

“Any action executed by the board that will continue after May 29 will be considered to have been initiated in bad faith. I, therefore, call on your Excellency sir, to prevail and rein in all overzealous officials who may wrongfully perceive the lame duck situation in Oyo State as a gold rush,” the letter read in part.
