Politics“ogah’s Guber Race, A Huge Deceit”, Ogah, Azubuike Exchange Heavy Blows by BleedingPen(op): 10:50am On Jun 06, 2019
“Ogah’s Guber Race, A Huge Deceit”, Ogah, Azubuike Exchange Heavy Blows, Open ‘Can Of Worms’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2019 gubernatorial election in Abia State, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has described as laughable, the report that his last governorship pursuit was a deceit.

He spoke in reaction to a media report credited to Mr Damian Kamalu, where he alleged that his (Ogah’s) campaign was a deceit targeted at securing a ministerial slot, and not for winning election.

Kamalu, in an article entitled ‘Dr. Uche Ogah’s Quest For Governorship: A Deceit’, had called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to consider Ogah for any ministerial slot, warning it will be tantamount to aiding and abetting of deceit, if his warnings are not heeded to.

He accused Uche Ogah of not running a solid campaign, saying it’s a pointer that he (Ogah) had negotiated with the PDP for monetary compensation.

He said the guber candidate deliberately withheld funds meant for the exercise till the election morning, thereby, giving the opposition an upper edge in the election.

He accused Ogah of deliberately waiting till the close of petition window before filing a case before the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

“Dr Uche Ogah’s petition at the election tribunal has just been struck out on Saturday, something that is not of surprise to many people any longer because it has been made obvious before now that he was never serious ab initio.

“Ogah never bothered to collect his results on LGA by LGA basis to discover his areas of strengths and weaknesses that would have aided him in the petition. Secondly, he deliberately refused to pay for the required certified true copies (CTC) of the INEC results. Thirdly, he never paid his lawyer on time to enable him do the necessary filling, if at all he has paid him by now, and as a result the filling was done about eleven (11) days after the stipulated time by the Electoral Act, a purely deliberate ploy by Dr Uche Ogah to make himself to be disqualified in the whole petition matter.”

He said Ogah deceived the House of Assembly candidates into believing that he sponsored them with his personal money whereas the funds were from the party at the national level, adding that not all candidates got a share of the money at the end of the day.

He alleged that till date, Ogah had kept mute on the amount received from the centre APC for the governorship and house of assembly election.

“Dr Uche Ogah keeps giving everybody the impression that nothing was given by the party at the centre. When the issue was to be discussed at the forum comprising all candidates in Abia, Dr Uche Ogah quickly exited the group and few minutes later, the forum was abruptly dissolved by one of his aides who eventually was the admin of that WhatsApp forum. And two days later, when the matter was raised in another forum Dr Uche Ogah belonged, he immediately exited the platform and till today, nobody knows how much the party at the centre gave for Abia guber/house of assembly elections.”

Reacting to the allegations, however, Mr Clinton Otoro Nwaubani, who wrote on behalf of the guber candidate, said without Ogah, the APC could not have won a single seat in Abia House of Assembly.

He described the allegations levelled against Uche Ogah as “totally untrue”, insisting that he (Ogah) worked for the APC in the last general election.

Nwaubani accused Kamalu of betrayal, while alleging that he was sponsored by his “pay master”, Hon Martins Azubuike, who was Ogah’s running mate in the governorship election.

However, the rebuttal by Nwaubani seemed to have drawn more exasperation from Abia people as many keen observers and members of the APC seemed dissatisfied with the rejoinder which they mostly termed as “watery” and “below par.”

The rebuttal has since raised a dust in some quarters with many accusing him of deliberately avoiding some of the issues raised by Damian Kamalu.

A political commentator who commented on the rebuttal, tagged it ‘below par’ rejoinder.

He said the writer had only succeeded in exposing further truths while deliberately hiding “facts”.

He said, “I expected him to give a breakdown of how much was received for the polls and amount expended.

“He only succeeded in affirming the allegations in the previous report, instead of reeling out figures to absolve Uche Ogah.”

Another political analyst who gave his name simply as Mr. Chidi, said; “Abians are suffering from bad leadership, both APC and PDP. Nonsense! If they did not come together for a common good of Abians, it is still going to be family afair.”

A Facebook user who commented on the post, wrote; “Did Uche Ogah actually contest the election? APC in the day, PDP at night. Nonsense!”

Sources, mostly members of the Abia APC who pleaded anonymity, said they were disappointed in the “watery defense.” They were, however, unanimous in their stance that Uche Ogah should give a proper account of the expenditures and “where, who and what he spent the monies on.”

They argued that Ogah abandoned his party, the APC and the leaders in the guise of prudency, only for him to show up on the election morning.

“Despite the fact that the party sent money from Abuja, we did not see money to spend on the election. I read he gave some units how much? (Sic). It is laughable that Ogah would write through a pseudonym instead of coming out to address issues.”

A party chieftain who identified himself simply as David, said the rebuttal by the guber candidate was not only shameful but insulting to the intelligence of Abia APC.

PoliticsFinally, Buhari Sends First Message To Nigerians After Inauguration by BleedingPen(op): 11:45am On Jun 04, 2019
In what many considers as his first message to Nigerians since after inauguration for a second term, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, said the sacrifices Nigerians made in voting him again into office during the 2019 general election, will never be in vain.

Igbere TV had reported that Buhari came under fire after failing to address Nigerians immediately after his swearing in, May 29.

In defending the president, a presidential aide had told Igberee TV that the president is expected to deliver his speech June 12, democracy day, saying, “the speech was not meant for today (May 29)”.

In his special Sallah message to celebrate the end of the Ramadan fast, on Tuesday, the president reassured Nigerians of his commitments towards the ‘project Nigeria.’

Read the full statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, and made available to Igbere TV...

EID-EL FITR: PRESIDENT BUHARI COMMENDS NIGERIANS ON PEACEFUL ELECTIONS, URGES MUSLIMS TO PROMOTE RELIGIOUS HARMONY

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed satisfaction at the conduct of peaceful elections in Nigeria, despite what he called "doomsday predictions of social disharmony."

In his Sallah message to Nigerians to celebrate the end of the Ramadan fasting season, President Buhari commended INEC for a good job despite the initial difficulties and praised the voters for their tenacity and strong faith in the democratic process.

"Before the 2019 general elections, prophets of doom didn't give the country a chance to conduct peaceful elections. Despite these fears, the country overcame its political challenges.

"For abandoning their businesses in order to vote, the voters had demonstrated great patriotism in coming out to exercise their civic duty.

"Let me use this opportunity once again to reassure all Nigerians that your sacrifices in voting for me won't be in vain. I will ensure the ordinary voters feel the positive impact of government," the President said.

Turning to the lessons of the Ramadan, President Buhari urged Muslims to always put humanity before personal interests.

"The Ramadan period is meant to reinforce us spiritually, therefore, we should use religion as an inspiration to do good at all times.

"The virtues of the Ramadan should be sustained beyond the celebration. Going back to bad ways after the Ramadan might defeat the essence of the message and lessons the fasting period was supposed to inculcate in the hearts and minds of the Muslim faithful," he said.

President Buhari also used the occasion to commiserate with victims of terrorism, kidnapping and banditry in the country.

He reassured Nigerians that under no circumstances would criminals and mass murderers be allowed to hold the country to ransom, saying ‘‘their days are numbered because this administration will pursue them relentlessly and bring them to justice.’’

BusinessOANDO: Court Restrains SEC From Removing Wale Tinubu, Omamofe Boyo by BleedingPen(op): 6:34pm On Jun 03, 2019
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, has restrained the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from removing Wale Tinibu as Oando Plc’s Chief Executive Officer, Igbere TV reports.

The court also restrained the SEC from removing Omamofe Boyo as the Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

Igbere TV learnt that Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Lagos High Court granted the interim injunction following an application by the embattled CEO and DCEO.

The Oando chiefs had applied for enforcement of their fundamental rights, Igbere TV gathered.

Ruling further, the court also restrained SEC, its servants or agents from taking any step concerning the commission’s letter dated May 31 in which it barred Tinubu and Boyo from being directors of a public company for five years.

It also restrained the commission from imposing a fine of N91.13 million on Tinubu, and from taking any action on the said letter pending hearing and determination of the applicants’ motion for an interlocutory injunction.

The court also restrained Mutiu Sunmonu from acting as the Head of Oando’s interim management team pending the hearing and determination of the motion.

It, therefore, urged all parties to maintain status quo ante pending the determination of the motion.

The court adjourned the case until June 14.

Politics9th NASS: Kalu Endorses Gbajabiamila As Reps Speaker (photos) by BleedingPen(op): 8:36pm On Jun 02, 2019
Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State, has endorsed Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, as Speaker of the lower legislative chamber in the 9th Assembly, Igbere TV can report.

Igbere TV reports that Kalu, a Senator-elect of the All Progressives Congress (APC), endorsed the lawmaker when he received him at his residence in Abuja, on Sunday.

He was accompanied by some lawmakers, including Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, Spokesman of his campaign, Gbajabiamila Group.

The Forbes-rated billionaire urged Gbajabiamila to carry every member along in the 9th Assembly irrespective of party affiliation.

Recall that the former governor had similarly endorsed the candidature of Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan for Senate President of the 9th Assembly.

Kalu is a top contender for Deputy Senate Presidency of the red chamber in the 9th Assembly.

PoliticsNinth NASS: APC S’south Group Backs S’east For DSP, Endorses Kalu (photos) by BleedingPen(op): 8:10pm On May 30, 2019
Ahead of the June 8 inauguration of the Ninth National Assembly, a group of the South-South All Progressives Congress, Urhobo Political Group (UPG), has thrown its weight behind the South-East geopolitical zone to produce the next Deputy Senate President.

The group also endorsed the candidature of Senator(elect) Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu for the position of Deputy Senate President of the Ninth Senate.

Igbere TV reports that the endorsement was carried out through an unanimous voice vote by members of the group during a meeting held at the Owumi Guest House, Ughelli, on Wednesday.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of members of the group, UPG Coordinator, Hon Jerry Uloho described Kalu as a man of integrity whose track record as governor of Abia state was enviable and without blemish.

He said electing the former governor as Deputy Senate President would add candour to the image of Nigeria that is presently in a near obscure level.

As an industrialist who has made much input in the economy of the country, the group said Orji Kalu as DSP would be a plus to the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari in his attempt to salvaging Nigeria economy and the fight against corruption.

“Orji Kalu is cool headed and a personality whose character is not in doubt. We are not comfortable with having a rascal and controversial figure that would rubbish the image of the Senate and the nation at large in the eyes of the global community.

“If Orji Kalu becomes the DSP everybody will sleep, heavens will not destroy heavens. His promotion will not be a punishment to fellow Nigerians and with Orji Kalu, not only the South-South and South-East but the entire nation would be comfortable,” he said.

The group, therefore, urged all elected senators to give Orji Kalu the needed support to emerge as Deputy Senate President of the 9th Assembly.

Recall that Kalu, had on several occasion, declared he would contest the Deputy Senate President position of the Ninth National Assembly.

The Forbes-rated billionaire, while maintaining his position on the DSP post, said he was the 56th senator to endorse Ahmed Lawan for the Senate Presidency.

Speaking with State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Buhari, on Monday, the former Abia governor said, “Well, I am going to contest on the floor of the Senate. I am waiting for the party to zone (the offices) and if the party continues to hold it, and don’t zone it, I will contest on the floor of the House.

“I have already endorsed Ahmed Lawan as the Senate President. That is sacrosanct in my mind and I am appealing to the other parties, let us have only one candidate in the Senate instead of going to drag for it. So, we are on course.

“Yesterday (Sunday), when I returned from Venezuela, Ahmed Lawan was with me in the house and I became the 56th APC senator to endorse him. As I am talking to you now, we are having two more people who are in Mecca, one senator from Katsina and the other from Lagos. Fifty-eight senators are going to sign in and we have the majority to make him Senate President.”

He expressed optimism that the executive and the 9th National Assembly would work harmoniously unlike what obtained in the outgoing 8th Assembly.

PoliticsREVEALED: ‘reason’ Why Buhari Failed To Deliver Speech At Inauguration by BleedingPen(op): 12:37pm On May 30, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari was on Wednesday sworn-in for a second term alongside the Vice President, Yemi Osinabjo at the Eagle Square Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

Our correspondent at the event observed that after taking his oath and partaking in other ceremonies, Buhari failed to deliver any speech to Nigerians.

The oath of office was administered on the Nigerian leaders by the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.

His refusal drew wide reactions and condemnation from opposition politicians.

Igbere TV learnt that the president failed to deliver any speech because of the forthcoming Democracy Day.

An impeccable source said Buhari’s inaugural speech would be delivered on June 12 during the Democracy Day.

Igbere TV recalls that the Federal Government had shifted major events for the president’s inauguration to June 12.

“The president’s inaugural speech was not meant for the swearing in,” the source added.

PoliticsAppeal Court Reverses Judgment That Made Regina Daniel's Husband Senator-elect by BleedingPen(op): 12:05pm On May 30, 2019
The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has reversed the April 3, 2019 judgment that saw Prince Ned Nwoko, the billionaire husband of Actress Regina Daniels, emerge as Senator-elect, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV recalls that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had sacked Senator Peter Nwaoboshi as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Delta North Senatorial District.

The Court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept Nwoko as the party’s candidate.

Delivering judgement on Thursday, however, a three-man panel of the Appeal Court held that the Federal High Court had no jurisdiction to have heard the case filed by Ned Nwoko.

The Judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, held that the suit by Nwoko was statute barred and that Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja ought not to have heard the case.

He, thereafter, reversed the April 3 ruling, and pronounced Nwaoboshi as the rightful candidate.

PoliticsMay 29: Saraki Was Acting President For 10 Hours (see How) by BleedingPen(op): 11:24am On May 30, 2019
Did you know that Senate President Bukola Saraki was “Acting President” of Nigeria for approximately 10 hours?.

Yes, constitutionally, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s tenure elapsed midnight May 28, so from one minute past 12, May 29 till 10:30am when Buhari and Osinbajo were sworn-in for a second term, Nigeria had no President nor Vice President.

Igbere TV had reported that President Buhari and VP Osinbajo were sworn-in for a second term on Wednesday at a low-key event at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

Reacting, Osinbajo at a dinner organised in honour of President Buhari and himself, at the State House Banquet Hall, thanked Saraki for not taking advantage of the vacuum in power before the presidential inauguration.

He said: “Something interesting happened earlier today; I am a lawyer and a law teacher and I like to test and interrogate legal scenarios.

“At one minute past midnight today, the four-year term of the President and I ended by effluxion of time.

“So, from one minute past 12 of last night, May 29 to about 10:30 am when we were sworn in for a second term there was no President or Vice President.

“Interestingly nothing went wrong, all was okay; when such a situation arises, it is the Senate President who acts as President.

“So, when I arrived at Eagle Square this morning, some may have noticed that the Senate President and I were enjoying a joke.

“He said to me jokingly ‘You better be careful, you know I’m the acting President now’; so, we thank the Senate President for not doing anything funny.’’

Igbere TV State House correspondent observed that Buhari was conspicuously absent at the dinner held in his honour.

Politics9th NASS: I'll Contest Deputy Senate Presidency, Insists Kalu by BleedingPen(op): 5:43pm On May 29, 2019
All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator-elect, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has said he would contest the Deputy Senate President position in the Ninth National Assembly.

Igbere TV reports that Kalu, a former governor of Abia, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja, while speaking with State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reaffirming his earlier position on the DSP post at the presidential villa, the Forbes-rated billionaire said he was the 56th senator to endorse Ahmed Lawan for the Senate Presidency.

“Well, I am going to contest on the floor of the Senate.

PoliticsApapa Gridlock: Sawon-olu Blames FG, Promise To Act In 60days by BleedingPen(op): 7:11am On May 20, 2019
Lagos State Governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has blamed the Federal Government for the Apapa gridlock, saying it is playing politics with the road.

He said the gridlock will be resolved by his administration in his first 60 days in office.

Sawon-Olu spoke at the weekend, in Lagos, during a congratulatory dinner organised in his honour by the 1999/2000 MBA class of the University of Lagos, Igbere TV reports.

His words, “If the government had been forward looking, it would have known that the volume of imports coming through the Apapa Wharf has since out-grown the port. The Apapa trailer issues is very serious. It was a campaign issue, it is a very serious issue. There is a lot of politics being played around it, but we cannot give excuses. I believe we are going to solve it in the first 60 days. We will take them out.

“Five to 10 years ago, if we were forward looking, we would have realised that the city has outgrown that port. The long term solution is to build another port because the amount of importation that comes through that port clearly shows we need another port.”

Igbere TV reports that the governor-elect also said Lagos as a mega city has its peculiar challenges but that what matters is how the government is positioned to turn the challenges into opportunities.

“Twenty years ago, Lagos did not have the kind of environment it has today. Lagos did not have 22 million population. Lagos did not have the highest vehicular density in Africa. What has happened is that we have seen growth, we have seen development all around the city, we have seen wealth being created and, of course, a mega city of this status will come with its own challenges, it comes with its own nuisances. But the issue is how can we turn all these nuisances and challenges to opportunities and how well is government positioned to be able to handle these challenges?.”

He said his administration will be focused on the central theme ‘THENES’, which he said is designed to capture all facets of governance and welfare of the people of Lagos.

THENES, he said, represents Traffic Management and Transportation; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Needs, including housing, ease of doing business and power; Entertainment and Tourism; and Security.

He promised to pursue an integrated transportation system that will encompass road, rail and the waterways to address the transportation problems of the state.

“What we are trying to do is an integrated transport system using the BRT, the rail and the waterways. We are looking at a situation where road will work, water will work and rail will work.

“The waterway in Lagos is not like the waterway you see in Amsterdam or Boston that meandered well through the city. The waterway in Lagos is just one big massive water flowing from one direction to the other without any stoppage in between,” he said.

PoliticsPresidential Candidate Demands N500m From Buhari’s Aide ‘for Defamation’ by BleedingPen(op): 5:31pm On May 19, 2019
Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has demanded for N500 million from Lauretta Onochie, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, for defamation.

The former Vice President also demanded for a written apology from the presidential aide.

In a letter obtained by Igbere TV on Sunday, the presidential candidate threatened to commence a N2 billion suit against her if she did not meet his demands.

The letter dated May 14, 2019 and addressed to Onochie, was signed by Mike Ozekhome, SAN, lawyer to Atiku Abubakar.

Igbere TV recalls that Onochie had on the 7th of May, 2019 tweeted that the former vice president was on United Arab Emirates (UAE) security watch list.

“Atiku on UAE Watchlist — Security Sources.

“Security operatives in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are keeping a close tab on a former Nigerian Vice Pres Atiku Abubakar who has been in the Middle East nation for several weeks now. What is he doing there?

“Me: Shopping for Terrorists?,” she tweeted.

Her claim has, however, turned out to be false.

Atiku Abubakar has asked Onochie to publish a retraction in six national newspapers and one international daily as well as on social media.

“Your odious publication is clearly also aimed at rubbishing our client’s image and reputation.

“It has caused him national and international backlash and embarrassment and done incalculable damage to him.

“Your publication has also caused our client, in the eyes of reasonable members of the public, unspeakable odium, obloquy, hatred, ridicule and psychological trauma.

“He has thereby been subjected to the shame and infamy of being viewed by members of the public as not only corrupt, but as a terrorist and sponsor of terrorism. Numerous telephone calls, emails, visits, letters and private social media chats by his family members, friends, political and business associates, and international statesmen and women in the last few days attest to the alarm and serious concerns generated by your false publication,” the letter obtained by Igbere TV read in part.

PoliticsDaddy Freeze Tackles Adeboye Over ‘hell’ Comment by BleedingPen(op): 12:42pm On May 18, 2019
Popular critic, Daddy Freeze has dropped one of his controversial bombshells again. This time around, he tackled Leke Adeboye, son of Pastor E. A. Adeboye, for saying that Michael Arowosaiye, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) gospel singer who committed suicide has gone to hell.

In a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Saturday, Freeze said committing suicide was not a criteria for going to hell.

Leke Adeboye had said in reaction to the suicide of Arowosaiye: “So a young man committed suicide and what everyone is talking about is what church did he attend or not attend or why he sang or didn’t sing or his accommodation situation or not,

“Come one people, nothing is worth killing yourself over, after all his sacrifices here on earth and now not to make heaven. I pray for his family that just lost someone they have invested so much in.”

Reacting, however, Freeze said he had a mandate from God to eradicate erroneous doctrines in the body of Christ.

“Now, permit me to say dear brother, that your tone in this message rubs off as rather insensitive to the plight of the young man’s family in the aftermath of losing their loved one, especially since he attended RCCG.

“Also, the statement you made; “after all the sacrifices made on earth and now not to make heaven,” is rather judgmental in my opinion and not scripturally correct for suicide victims, being one of the many incorrect teachings of today’s church,” he said.

Quoting several scriptural passages that clearly showed he does not have a grasp of the subject, Freeze said death is like sleep that men would eventually wake up from, as long “as we believe in the power of the resurrection of Yahushua, the first fruit of those who slept.”

“The scriptures also tell us that God wants all men to be saved because he so loved the world he gave his son (John 3:16), and that he wants us to come to the true knowledge of his truth.

“Yahushua clearly said, in Matthew 25 from 31, that when the final judgement comes, he would separate those who will make heaven, from those going to hell, like a shepherd separates sheep from goats and suicide wasn’t one of the criteria he listed for the hell bound.

“In no instance is suicide the answer, but if the church has taken marital wellbeing of members upon itself, I feel mental health issues should also be a priority of the Church,” he said.

PoliticsPresidency Disowns Akeredolu Over Planned ‘Marijuana Business’ by BleedingPen(op): 10:02am On May 18, 2019
The move by Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to establish a legal marijuana industry in the ‘sunshine’ state may have hit the rocks even before his very own eyes, Igbere TV reports.

This is just as findings by Igbere TV on Saturday showed that Akeredolu is not likely to find a willing ally in the Federal Government over his pursuit.

Despite the collaboration being received from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the governor has been disowned by the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA), an appendage of the Presidency.

PACEDA, in a statement made available to Igbere TV on Saturday, stated that no amount of money could be worth the lives of those that would be affected should marijuana be legalised in the country, as being canvassed by Akeredolu and, by extension, the NDLEA.

The warning came four days after Governor Akeredolu advised the Federal Government to encourage the cultivation of medicinal cannabis, also known as Indian hemp, in the country.

The statement was signed by the PACEDA Chair, Mohammed Buba Marwa.

Marwa, a retired military top officer, noted that the timing was so inauspicious, considering that the government had been doing everything to eradicate drug abuse in the country.

“It is disturbing that at this time when about 10 million Nigerians are abusing cannabis, anyone or group will be considering or advocating for Nigeria to legalise the growing of marijuana for economic or whatever purposes.

“Our committee has spent the last six months going round the country to obtain firsthand information about the dangers of drug abuse and how to combat it and we have been faced with the stark reality of how deep the menace has damaged and still damaging lives, especially the youths.

“No doubt, President Muhammadu Buhari was worried about this emergency situation, hence the decision to set up PACEDA to find a lasting solution to the threat. We should not, therefore, fold our arms or keep sealed lips while deliberate attempts are being made to sabotage the genuine efforts of the Federal Government in the interest of the nation.

“We should not forget so soon how many over-the-counter (OTC) drugs were made prescription medicines when millions of our young minds and adults were abusing such. How can we then turn around to call for legalising growing of cannabis when the Federal Government is still in the process of curtailing and eliminating the same?

“We dare say that no economic gain is worth the life of any Nigerian daily damaged on the street as a result of the effect of cannabis. There is, therefore, the need for all stakeholders at the federal, state and local government levels to rally round the Federal Government’s efforts at eliminating the menace of drug abuse rather than engaging in any counterproductive venture,” the statement read.

Despite the widespread appeal of Akeredolu's position on social media, some critics have rebuked the governor.

Among those who criticized the governor include Senator Shehu Sani, the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly.

Sani, who took to Twitter via his handle @ShehuSani on Wednesday, May 15, wrote;

“My brother Akeredolu, Lagos partnered with Kebbi for rice, please partner with Niger for beans, Kaduna for ginger or partner with Benue for yam. Please leave this Indian Hemp matter for now, abeg.”

But Akeredolu is determined in his pursuit, despite several condemnation and backlash received in the last few days.

“The governor believes that the global legal marijuana industry is primed to be a jumbo in years ahead and Ondo State is trying to think ahead of time,” an aide of the governor, who did not want his name mentioned, told Igbere TV on Saturday.

CrimeCultists Kill 4, Set 10 Buildings Ablaze In Edo by BleedingPen(op): 8:21am On May 18, 2019
No fewer than four persons were killed and 10 buildings destroyed in a renewed cult clash at Afokeplla in Etsako-East Local Government Area of Edo State on Monday, Igbere TV has learnt.

Our correspondent reports that residents of the area are now living in fear of reprisal attacks, following the attack by members of the cult groups.

A resident, Ahmed Seidu, said the killings were as a result of a misunderstanding between members of rival cults groups in the community.

He said the crisis escalated when one of the leaders of one of the cult groups was shot dead, resulting in a show of force by the rival groups.

The Chairman of the council, Aremiyau Momoh, who visited the community, confirmed that 10 buildings were set ablaze in the attack on the community.

Momoh told newsmen that the council had imposed a curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in the community until the situation was brought under control.

He said the police have commenced investigation and very soon, those who are found wanting will be brought to book.

However, when contacted by Igbere TV, the Edo Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Police Chidi Nwanbuzor, said the command was not aware of the situation.

“We don’t have that report yet at our command, I will have to get across to the Divisional Police Officer of Okpella on this development,’’ he told Igbere TV on telephone.

EducationNigeria Varsity Suspends Student For Calling VC ‘foolish’ On Facebook by BleedingPen(op): 8:13am On May 18, 2019
A student of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Ms. Joy Nkanang, has been suspended “indefinitely” from the school for allegedly calling the University Vice Chancellor ‘foolish’ on Facebook.

Igbere TV learnt that Nkanang, was in her second year in the department of Performing Arts before her suspension on May 9.

Igbere TV gathered that the suspended student is a native of Akwa Ibom State.

In a search by Igbere TV on Nkanang’s Facebook wall, she wrote;

“AKSU what is happening? A dry cleaners shop was robbed last night along college road….”

The comment was made on May 5.

Further findings by Igbere TV revealed that Nkanang’s Facebook comment was about the increase in cult activities and insecurity around the university campus.

The post attracted some comments, including one Facebook user calling for a protest against insecurity in the university.

“No…. we don’t want to spoil the schools image…. foolish VC,” Ms. Nkanang wrote on the social media site, in response to the call for protest.

The university’s attention was drawn to her “foolish vc” comment which the authority, in the suspension letter, described as “gross misconduct” and a “breach of matriculation oath”.

“Ms. Nkanang would remain suspended from studies and barred from entering the campus until the conclusion of investigation on her case”, the university said.

The suspension letter sighted by Igbere TV, was signed by the school Registrar, John Udo.

When contacted by Igbere TV, the Registrar said Nkanang admitted before a meeting with university officials that she did call the Vice Chancellor foolish.

But a source who witnessed the meeting proceedings said the student was not allowed to make any comment when she appeared before the officials.

“They just asked her where she’s from in Akwa Ibom and who her father is.

“At the end of the meeting, they told her she is dismissed from school. She knelt down and begged, but nobody listened to her,” the source told Igbere TV.

Nkanang declined comment when our correspondent contacted her, Saturday morning.

On his part, the university's Spokesperson, Akaninyene Ibanga, said Ms Nkanang may be recalled or expelled from the university when the case is “determined”.

He said the suspended student is yet to be invited to appear before a disciplinary committee of the school.

Professor Eno Ibanga is the Vice Chancellor of the university which is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government.

Politics“Produce Your Certificate Of Mental Fitness”, Court Orders Lawyer by BleedingPen(op): 11:17pm On May 17, 2019
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered a lawyer, Orji Nwafor-Orizu to produce a medical report from a recognised government psychiatric hospital confirming that he is mentally stable to appear before the court.

Nwafor-Orizu is counsel representing Senator Osita Izunaso, the third defendant in the ongoing certificate of return suit filed by outgoing governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Igbere TV reports that Justice Okon Abang who issued the order on Friday, stressed that Nwafor-Orizu would not be accorded audience in court until he produced such report.

In addition, the court held that Orizu must equally enter an undertaken to be of good conduct throughout the hearing and conclusion of the matter, not just before the Federal High Court in Abuja, but before any other superior court of record.

Our correspondent reports that the order followed the conduct of Orizu at the resumption of hearing on Friday.

It all began when Orizu who was not in court when the case was called, walked in when counsel to the plaintiff, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN) was already on his feet to address the court.

Meanwhile, in Orizu’s absence, another lawyer, S.N. Anichebe, had announced his appearance on behalf of Osita Izunaso.

But just as the plaintiff’s counsel was about to make his submissions, Orizu interrupted and insisted the court could not proceed with the matter claiming that he was in possession of an order of the Court of Appeal stopping proceedings.

While brandishing the alleged order of the Court of Appeal, Orizu shouted, “this court cannot sit on this matter. This matter cannot go on.”

The judge asked him to sit and allow Okorocha’s counsel to continue his argument but the lawyer insisted, saying; “the court will not proceed until my motion is heard”.

The judge warned that he was frustrating his proceedings and should desist from any further antics.

Following the warning, the judge rose for about five minutes and when he resumed, he asked the security personnel in the court to watch Nwafor-Orizu closely, saying he didn’t feel safe with him in court.

The judge said he felt unsafe because he was not sure of the mental state of the lawyer, adding that no sane lawyer would act in the manner he did since he had not announced himself on record and yet was insisting to be heard.

He asked the security personnel to be ready to remove him from the court should he display such conduct again, and that where he resisted, he should be arrested.

Justice Abang also sent for court’s doctor and informed her to be on standby as he might need to send a lawyer to her to ascertain the lawyer’s mental fitness.

In spite of pleas from Nwawuche, counsel to the second defendant that the court should pardon Nwafor-Orizu’s behavior, the judge said he would only acknowledge him after he presented a certificate of mental fitness.
