EducationRe: UK Education Scam by Blue2(m): 1:04pm On Sep 24, 2006
@ Salsera
If it is established that there is some form of quota on teh number of nigerian studnet visa issued every year, isn't ut right that the Embassy officals let prospective student visa applicants know, so that they don't throw their hard earned 24,750 naira not to talk of the part payemnet made to the school. If indeed this is the case then the embassy can be accused of scamming people!!
Again i stand by the fact that if everything were run properly here in the educational system then we wouldn't need to go through such humilations at the embassy. Pity the Nigerian governmnet can't see the opportunity.
The truth is that the Nigerian govt can't do much to stop teh exploitation by the british embassy, abi dem wan retaliate! No way! the best way out is to stem the flow of nigerian studnets going abroad by providing good quality eductaion here in nigeria
EducationRe: Appealing The Refusal Of A British Student Visa: Intricacies by Blue2(m): 12:54pm On Sep 23, 2006
My advice is that you should foregt appealing, if you still intend to go for your studies that reapply. appeal takes too long, just address the points the ECO made on your refusal letter in ur next application. These ECO dey Kolo (mad) sometimes! Best of luck
EducationRe: UK Education Scam by Blue2(m): 12:40pm On Sep 23, 2006
I have read this thread with keen interest chiefly because I have myself been a “victim” of visa refusal by the British embassy. Let me state here that when it comes to visa “na God hand e dey!”. On the surface I agree with the initiator of this thread that the British embassy has not been fair to applicants, though I consider his use of the word SCAM a little overboard.
Here are my views:
Firstly I think quite a number of applicants in Nigeria are naive on what the embassy truly requires, this is made even worse because the embassy doesn’t seem to come out clear on what is needed. I applied for a student visa last year for a masters programme in Aberdeen, and after paying 24K I was stunned with the usual bla bla… what caught my attention was the fact that three paragraphs in my rejection letter was similar to a friend’s own inspite of the fact that we submitted different documents. Abi was it a case of cut and paste!
Anyway, I overcame this disappointed and tried again, this time I co-opted the services of a student advisory body Lawrie Green Education (LGE) and I discovered quite a lot of lapses on my earlier application. Let me state here that inspite of the insight I got from LGE there services were less than professional. Firstly for one going for a masters programme one must show evidence of the TOTAL amount of tuition and living expenses in your account/ sponsor’s account. The embassy people don’t want to hear that you or your sponsor has shares/stocks or maybe they earn 1million naira a month from which they hope to source your fee/living expense, for a one year programme they want to see the CASH NOW!
Another thing is the issue of sponsor’s letter,
• This letter must be clear and concise, i.e. the relationship between applicant and sponsor must be stated clearly,
• LOGICAL reasons why sponsor is paying your fee,
• Clearly state sponsorship and to what extent.
• state what sponsor does and financial status with evidence
• list assets owned with evidence
One thing people take for granted is feeling the student questionnaire, O boy this people dey read this thing well. Take time out to read each question and answer them properly. Your answers must be logical and convincing

You should endeavour to as must as you can submit the original of any documents but beware! Documents get missing in transit so make copies and consider whether you would want to risk your documents getting lost. In the event where you can’t submit an original let them know that you would be more than willing to oblige them the original in person.

As to the issue of money making by the embassy, I can understand where this feeling is coming from. I ask myself why the embassy should refuse me a visa and yet hold on to the 24.5K, at least one should be given something back! Considering that 90,000 Nigerians were reported to have applied for US visa last year, I would leave the maths for you guys to workout! The UK embassy receives an even greater number!!
Again this year people who paid their full tuition and living expenses were denied visa! How do you explain that! I have seen three cases like that this year. There is this rumour that the embassy has a quota on the number of students that they give visa every year, my question is this if this is true then wouldn’t it be fraudulent to continue to ask people to continue to apply for visa that they already know would be refused come what may!

After all said and done the fault is in our government and it's policy toowarsd education. The question is why should i pay 10,500 pounds sterling (fees)+ 6000 pound sterling (living expenses) in another man's land and yet my country after more than 40 years of independence can't guarantee me quality eduction. for those asking people to look inwards for higher degree, the sad thing is that today on nigeria these higer degrees are not worth the paper they are written on, employers would value a British first degree higher than a nigerian masters! Unless and until we get our acts togther we woudl continue to suffer in the hands of embassy people and foreign schools who make millions of pounds from our ill-structured edcuational system. i rest my case

PoliticsRe: Oil In Nigeria Belongs To The North by Blue2(m): 3:53pm On Jul 01, 2006
I have read the much my patience could afford me of this thread! And I must say couple of people are getting sentimental and have missed the point!
The question or is it claim was that the oil in the niger-Delta belongs to the north. Well as a geologist I know that isn’t true.
First of foremost three things are required for oil to form and then deposit. Which are source rock, Reservoir rock and a good trapping system. Oil has been reported in marginal quantities in what is referred to as the Gongola Basin and Bornu Basin (larger Chad Basin). Yes oil is found in Chad Basin and with the prodding of northern politicians this has intensified exploratory activities in Bornu Basin (which holds the brightest prospects of Hydrocarbon (HC) find in the north). But unfortunately the geological settings are just not right, even if there are evidences that the source rocks in Bornu basin are marginal good, presence of volcanic intrusions means that any oil formed wouldn’t survive (HC can only “survive ” in temperature of btw 65-175 ) and moreso there aren’t any good trapping systems in the Bornu basin so it means again that if HC were formed they’d probably migrate.
Which brings us to the question did the HC in the Niger Delta (ND) form as a result of migration of HC from the north. The answer is a BIG NO, there is no proven pathway between the two basin, they are separated by igneous/metamorphic belts and it’s a well known fact that igneous/metamorphic rocks don’t offer the kind of porosity/permeability to allow for such follow, sedimentary rocks are bets known for this characteristics.

What’s all the argument about whether oil (the devil’s piss) belongs to the north/south, I believe the damn thing has been a curse anyway!
BusinessRe: Ideas For Starting A Nigerian Business With $1-5 Million by Blue2(m): 7:38am On Jul 01, 2006
If i had that type of money i'd invest it in education (primary and secondary); there is a big demand by nigerian parents (both home and abroad) for quality education and they are ready to pay reasonably for it. if in doubt check out the numbers of nigerians jetting to the UK for 1st and 2nd degrees and considering the rates international studnets pays you go know say e no easy!
Dating And Meet-up ZoneRe: Online Relationships by Blue2(m): 3:06pm On Jun 18, 2006
are online relationships possible, i say yes. the internet can act as a means to meet people, teh key word is after meeting what next. it is possible that you two might be compatible and things work on from there. from that point of view online relationships are possible and can work. but if you keep it on the cyber level then you both would probabaly be living a fantasy!
and what's all the stuffs about nigerian men lying online, yes we do have our bagages but common girls some of you tell some really fabulous lies, like i live in, , my daddy is, , i went to so-so and so school,
There are honest people out there just as there are wolves both boys and girls. and how about those girls you meet on;lien and after exchanging numbers teh nexy thing u get is "abeg send me credit!"

Girl leave the guy alone, he is quarter to marry and i don't think you would want to be rememebered as that girl who nearly spoilt someone's garri! these things have a way of back-lashing. so my advice is leave teh guy alone and lok for your own. As per teh love thing, i don't think teh guy really loves you, when push turns to shove he'd fall back into the arms of his fiancee not U!

Two of my pals in school graduated with a thrid class, today they are the most successful of us all! in the outside world "1+1=2" isn't always equal to two, it takes the "clever guy" to fathom this. mind u i didn't say brillant! 3rd class isn't a fantastic result but its a result all the same! so don't let it weigh you down, dust your shoes and find out where your 1st class talent lies out there in the world!!

Chelsea seal £16m Mikel transfer!! Finally all has ben resolved Mikle is offically a BLUES! ManU got £12M while Lyn got £4M! those greedy A$$Hole$!! How much of this money is going to pepsi Academy the place where Mikel cut his teeth. This should be a lesson to Nigerian clubs and youth academies, they should have a clause in their contracts that guarantees them a little something if their products are sold for big money in europe. Makabi Hifa got a percentage of Yaks fee when he was sold from Pompey to Middlesborough

This thread specifically said “strictly for Chelsea fans” and also not foul mouthing Chelsea. Why can’t Arsenal an Man U fans levae us alone!! Abi is it a crime to be successfully!!
As to the accusation of Chelsea bring in finished products, again I say na bad belle! People seem to forget so easily that Chelsea had big name players in her kitty! What with the likes of Michel Dersaille, Zola, Floyd, Weah….
And would u call Joe Cole (the most skilful English player), Lampard, Cech, John Terry, William Galas to mention just a few finished products. These players are TRUE BLUES through and through!!
Yes we bought some experience because we want to finally conquer Europe; I don’t think that is a crime. After all Madrid started it all with the coming of the “Galaticos”, no one complained now its Chelsea’s turn and “our enemies” are shouting BLUE murder!
Abeg if una no like the way Chelsea dey succeed go find una Russian financer!
PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Foreign Reserves: Why Suffer In The Midst Of Plenty? by Blue2(m): 5:45pm On May 21, 2006
My dad told me that back then in the seventies when he was in the UK studying, a British paper came out with this head line, "The fool who won the Pool" in respect to Gowon's infamous statement that "money isn't our problem it is spending it that is the problem" .
I laughed my head off when i heard this grin grin grin! Can u imagine how a foolish fool would behave if he won a jackpot at the pool!! Well that was what i leaders did in the oil boom days of the seventies and just a couple of weeks ago we paid off that expensive debt!

I agree with Seun we should think hard and long before undertaking any major project or borrowing money. We should just throw money at problems that has always been our problem. If we need power stations, the question is what is the most efficient and cost effective source should it be gas, solar, biogas.

Like someone rightfully pointed out a string naira would be detrimental to our export economy, the main reason many Nigerians sort a strong naira is because they want cheap foreign products. The Chinese are giving us just that but their currency is low and their government makes sure it stays low!

What we need is an export driven diversified economy, we have the resources, both human and natural all we need is a visionary leader to galvanise our positive energy in the right direction.

Again I end with something my dad told me, he was part of the generation Soyinka called "the wasted generation", they had so much potential yet they achieved so little. Many of them were trained in the best schools in Europe and America and today we can all see the result. He (my dad) said that in the sixties there was this self belief amongst the Nigerian intelligentsia that the country was destined for greatness. I still believe in this dream with the right leadership Nigeria can be a super power, twenty years ago ho would believe that the Chinese would rule the world’s economy.

The 2-2 drwa btw nigeria and Cote D'Ivoire @ the Senegal 1992 Nation's Cup. The second goal which was a one-tow pass btw Okocha and Benn Iroha was a beauty to watch. And Yekini's winning thunder bolt penalty kick was the icing on the cake

Nutter and Asiwaju! you guys are heating this thread up! You both have your points but i can sense a bit of sentiments creeping in. I say you guys shake hands and be FRIENDS! we can safe nigeria by going for each other's neck!

As for the thrid term thing, if i were a politican fear go catch me o! becos believe me Baba Iyabo was floored on that day and teh man no dey forgive or forget (4get that him born-again crap).
The good thing i see in all this is that OBJ would slowly satrt releasing dossiers of these politicans to teh public, Atiku has questions to answer on his activities in BPE and NCP, Buhari hasn't accounted for the PTF largess, IBB that one his sinns would fill this world and spill into Mars! who again! is it Ogbeh whose tenuse as PDP chairman was characterised by rigging and bribery.
