One of my OGs in school finished graduated as a doctor only for them to tell him that he could not be inducted because there was an irregularity in his WAEC result. I was a few years behind him. He had received all the training a medical student was expected to have and had passed all the required exams. This guy begged until i got to final year and i did my internship and left the place but got no reprieve.

Over 6 years wasted just like that.
The Nigerian university system is diabolical. Ideally the students are the most important stakeholders in the university system ; imparting knowledge intk them and tarsitioning them into the society to become problem solvers is the reason there's even a university system in the first place.

However, in Nigeria they get the least care from other stakeholders in the system. The case of Ur OG is similar to what UniCAL dentistry students are facing now. Their department's accreditation is lost and the VC is talking as if there's nothing that can be done to remedy the situation despite public outcry. I just dey imagine the kind mental stress the affected students will be going through now. Nothing can describe the feeling of watching Ur fellow students graduate and u are just stuck without any headway

This was my initial post that supply of substandard equipment lead to delays among other things you countered despite the fact that uncle Gloriousgbola citing his experience, you said it's unbelievable, now Dangote has confirmed the same thing I said you don't want to accept the fact that you goofed?
We are here to learn from each other; there are things I don't know I won't argue about it just to sound contrarian or logical
Let me just tell u straight right now ; If u want to have a discussion please stay and have a discussion like a man but if don't want to,kindly 4ck off!

You are in the habit of starting a discussion and when u can't keep up u run off either claiming u don't have strength to argue or saying the other party is arguing for argument sake.

Back to the Dangote Refinery delay-in-startup issue. You claimed Ur acquaintance told u theft, misappropriation of funds and employees supplying substandard equipment led to the delay.

For starters I hope u know what U claimed Dangote said in his statement today is Fauty equipment which is not one and same with substandard equipment. Let's even leave that aside.

My argument was that Dangote as a conglomerate deals with top engineering companies and it is highly unlikely they will be procuring substandard equipment. I went back and forth with Izzou and GloriousGbola on this insisting on my doubt about Ur claim. Glorious made a strong point talking about Dangote entering a new market being a factor and I reasoned with that viewpoint.

I know u are itching to link all of this up with that Ur "sabotage" story, but this is clearly a failure contractual liability. The fact that Dangote is not mentioning the company's name shows he has been duly compensated either by the vendor or their insurers.

I would not have responded to u but this Ur believe that someone argues to sound contrarian, please miss me with that bullshiiiit abeg!

Do u see me put mouth when people discuss American politics? Do u see me put mouth when people discuss sports like Boxing and Basketball which I don't have an idea of? There are are several discussions I sit out either out of lack of interest of because because I prefer to listen to other people's opinions/experience.

I expressed my doubt about Ur acquaintance's claim that day because I know the standard that is obtainable and expected in the space Dangote Refinery operates.

What you listed above puts you in upper class mode not in god mode that the original poster wrote in his post quoted below. A single G-Wagon or Cybertruck will almost consume the 500m
For example Cubana chief priest bought 1 Range rover for his wife and the cost was about $250K according to Naija blogs. So the cost of delivery to Nigeria you can imagine how that will end up being. Now to live in godmode, you wont have just 1 luxury vehicle, you probably need 2 or 3 of similar cars to be in godmode. Now how much will that be
before we go to the regular Hilux for escort cars

That business class ticket abroad will it be for only him or he wont have a family that are also travelling business class with him plus the hotel and how many times this godmode big boy make such trips in a year. Do you know how much eat at best places when you travel will cost and do you think the expense you described will get you VIP treatment everywhere in Nigeria even before talking of abroad?

Now when you spend that $2m, how much of it will be left
I didn't even see this before my response to him.

He is not seeing the contrast in his understanding of the situation and Elder's.

Oga - he won't be buying car every year now? He can trade in if he desires to be changing cars yearly.
Chief $2M is a lot of money anywhere in the world, and sufficient to buy you elite priviledges within reason.
In the bold u are saying $2m will buy u elite privileges within reason. You have described someone who would lowkey enjoy good life to a certain degree.

However, that is not what Elder whom u are backing refered to in his initial post that led to the discussion. Below are his own words:

Here in Nigeria, $2 million puts you in god mode. You’re hiring staff, living in a mansion in a high brow area, riding in a convoy with drivers, security, and assistants. You eat at the “best” places, travel when you want, get VIP treatment everywhere, and flex on half the country without breaking a sweat

So yeah, $2M in Nigeria can move as loud as $200m in the US, because here, money doesn’t just buy comfort, it buys power, attention, and untouchability (It all depends on if you know how to use the money though)
He claims $2m buys you power , attention and untouchability. Do you agree with him based on what u have analyzed in your own post up there?

Do u think $2m puts u in god mode in Nigeria?

Not at all, bro. I wasn’t even thinking about those people when I made that post. Honestly, if you hadn’t mentioned their names now, I wouldn’t have remembered they existed.

It’s not that I’m turning amala, it’s just clear that you, Raumdeuter, and a few others are deliberately choosing to miss the core of my argument. What Chief Oluwunl01 said earlier already settled the matter.

Sometimes, it’s just good to follow the person who knows the road, so you don’t end up in the gutter. Blueray my man, there's nothing wrong with admitting you're wrong. Swallow this L in peace, and stop trying to shift it.
Oya put a price to the luxury lifestyle u have been talking about. Tell us how many luxury cars one should own to live the kind of luxurious lifestyle u are referring to, give us the number of security escort vehicles u will have and put a price to it.

Why are u running away from putting a price to ur imagination? If u can think it, u can put a price to it can't u?

Chief Olawni10 also didn't tell us how he will spend the $2m beyond placing it in TBills. He said the Tbills will fetch an annual income of $200k but what he's not saying is that a 2024 Landcruiser Prado costs around that same amount.

So if u use this year's annual income off ur $2m investment to buy a luxury car, where will the funds for u to live the luxurious lifestyle for the reminder of the year come from?

Elder, U either want to come forward with an intelligent plan on how to realize this luxurious lifestyle u dream about or just keep trolling.

I know he was talking about luxurious lifestyle he was referring to the kind of lifestyle being portrayed by people lik Jowizaza, Obi Cubana and co. The issue with you is that you view everything through a Lagos lens, as if Lagos defines the entire Nigerian experience.

I know plenty of people living that kind of lifestyle. Some might be worth more than $2M, sure, but many of them aren't even close to that figure. Even my own dad, back in the day, had a convoy with security guards in their own vehicle following him around, and he wasn’t even worth $300K.

Just because certain things aren’t common in Lagos doesn’t mean they don’t happen elsewhere. Nigeria is bigger than one city, and the cost of influence or perceived “elite” status isn’t uniform across the country.

Let’s be honest, we’re probably never going to agree, because we’re clearly speaking from two very different realities. And that’s fine. But at least acknowledge that your experience isn’t the national standard.
The way u make assumptions and jump into conclusions needs to be studied. That I don't come here to be announcing the number of states I've been to in this country does not mean I don't move around. No dey talk like small pikin say I only see things through the lens of Lagos when u don't even know the state I'm typing presently.

U can see up there that when I was responding to bluelines I asked him to answer using the lens of PH, Abuja and Lagos being major commercial capitals where things dey really happen for this country. U don't expect us to be talking about living premium elite lifestyle and I will be using Ibadan , Jos,Kano, Asaba or Umuahia as the base location. It's not like those states don't have upper class neighbourhood/GRA but we are discussing based on the parameters u set in ur initial post.

U literally painted a luxurious lifestyle that fits what the everyday life of an extremely rich individual will be in an upscale part of any of the major commerical cities in Nigeria. U are only trying to be clever by half when u want to make this about Lagos vs other states . Premium lifestyle is premium lifestyle when we take away the pricey amount charged in the real estate sector in Lagos.

The amount u will buy a 2024 Landcruiser Prado, security escort trucks and payment for security personnel in Lagos is the same amount u will buy it in PH. The cost of travelling anywhere in the world (which u claimed is part of what the $2m will fetch u) is the same whether u are based in Lagos or PH or Abuja. Scratch that! The amount u will be spending on Security in PH will most likely be higher than what u will spend in Lagos. I go to PH often and I see various companies always having their Security team on standby at the airport waiting to pick their expatriate and national staff who fly in regularly. The fear of Niger Delta boys is the beginning of more security budget.

I know u are one of those people who look at a particular sum of money and just assume it should be able to do x, y and z without actually putting a figure to those items. That's why I understand why u are making this kind of assumptions sha. For example, look at u assuming that because "ur dad had security escorts back in the day while worth way lesser than the $2m, that means the $2m can do all of the aforementioned and more over 20 years later" Do u understand time value of money?...... grin grin

You can honestly do all of this in Nigeria with 3b naira, nothing up there is too extreme, you’re definitely not the politician level rich but you’re a proper big man, Nigeria is a poor country flexing on people don’t actually require too much, the main thing is are you just sitting on the $2m or they’re in investments yielding returns, anybody could go broke but in the society we are today, 3b puts you up there above majority of the society because those are in themselves luxury
He simply said "With $2m in Nigeria you can live the sort of life people worth $200m in the US are living.". To me this means the person is worth $2m in assets, cash at hand and in goodwill.

So u are saying a person worth $2m will live in a mansion(The value of which is inclusive in the $2m), he will own at least one luxury vehicle , have at least two security pickup trucks, have at least 8 security officers in his security details, will be able to fly anywhere anytime , buy VIP treatment for himself anywhere he finds himself ,etc all inside his networth of $2m?

The cost of running a retinue of security agents that will be seeing to his travels will burn a sizeable part of the money he thinks is big money. Except he's suggesting the kind of "king"he wants to be will be one who rents luxury vehicles and security escorts anytime he steps out.

I know u are smart and a fair sense of judgment on what it would cost to afford the lifestyle he mentioned up here. Please tell me, do u honestly believe in Nigeria of today a man worth total sum of 3 billion in landed assets and cash at hand will be able to afford this "lifestyle"?

I don't think so. I think it's the reality of the money-worshipping complex prevalent in our society in general.

We really are in a very poor society such that even having 500 million naira guarantees you a lifetime of adulation and praise from your surroundings.

An amount which is almost nothing in the western world.
We have a money worshipping culture and no one escapes that. We've seen it on some abrodians here when they brag about flexing in the richest places on vacation here with an amount of money that wouldn't really go far where they are.
You are right that we have a money worshipping problem as Nigerians (Maybe Africans in general), but 500 million doesn't guarantee u a lifetime of adulation one bit. If u get the 500 million as seasonal/periodic income then maybe u have a point.

You guys are not getting his point. Maybe it's because he's using the dollar figure.
$2m is approximately 3.5 billion naira. That is indeed enough to guarantee you the life of a king in Nigeria. You can build a correct mansion with like 400 million naira in the lesser high brow and enough to maintain your wealth while being able to afford premium healthcare in Nigeria.

Yeah his comparison with that of $200m is far fetched. But the main point stands that the lifestyle of 3.5 billion naira is better in our own dysfunctional society to it's equivalent in the USA where you're still very much in check by the society.
While trying to help elder with his argument u are making it worse. How will 3.5 billion guarantee u a lifetime of living like a king in mansions and u will still be able to afford premium healthcare?

Do u even know how much it will cost u to acquire and maintain ur luxury vehicle, ur security convoy and pay attendant bills annually ?

If u really mean living like a king in the way elder has described, trust me ur 3.5 billion will not even last beyond a year or two (I'm being generous here). Except the 3.5 billion is a regular/periodic income and not some lump sum he's not sure where the next one would come from

No one’s denying that $200M in the US gives you everything, real power, global access, generational wealth, and a kind of freedom most people never touch. That’s not in question.

But you keep missing the main point, it’s not about comparing dollars directly, obviously, $2M can’t do what $200M can anywhere. The point is that $2M in Nigeria can functionally give you the kind of lifestyle and social weight $200M gives in the U.S. Context matters, bro.

Let’s not forget that with $2M, you’re already richer than 95% of the entire country. You’re not middle class, you’re elite. You can own property, have a fleet of staff, ride with personal security, and move through society with power and respect. People don’t treat you like some regular rich guy, they treat you like a god. And no, it’s not just sycophants, it’s influence, access, and privilege.

Yes, land in Ikoyi or Banana Island is overpriced, but you don’t have to buy there to live extremely well. Meanwhile, in the U.S., $2M barely gets you a decent home in a major city, no driver, no personal security , no real social pull, just structure and peace of mind.

So again it’s not about who has more money. It’s about how far the money goes in its environment.. $200M is global-level wealth, no one’s arguing that. But $2M in Nigeria, if used wisely, gives you serious lifestyle leverage and power, the kind most people will never experience, even in the West.
Leta do it this way, can you put a price to all of those stuff U listed up there?

Like tell us how much of the ₦3billion (which is the naira equivalent of $2m) that will be spent on each of those fantasies u wrote in the bold.

How much do u think they sell a bullet proof Toyota Landcruiser that will be Ur personal vehicle? How much will u buy the two hiluxes that will be in your convoy? How much will u pay at leasg 8 security guys that will always mount the escort hilux anytime u go out? How much will u buy Ur house and which location? How much will u pay Ur live-in chef?

I await answers to these questions first for us to proceed

60% of the things that will make him a big boy in Nigeria are imported. E.g Will your cars be cheaper than the person buying in America? Your electronics your gadgets, your vacations, Your flight ticket? Before we go to your healthcare.
Upper middle class and above, Almost all your expenses are on imported items

Will you also buy a flat on the Island and how much do you buy them for?

Nigeria wey everything na billion billion dem dey mention.
Don't get me wrong, $2m can make you live like a king in certain part of Nigeria, actually most places in Nigeria but not everywhere especially in prime areas of Lagos Abuja PH
Elder just dey call number wey come to his mind.

See this $18m waterfront property at Banana Island, I'm sure this is the kind of luxury lifestyle he thinks a man with $2m in Nigeria can live. He just doesn't know that the lifestyle cost pass as he think am.
