You're funny, bros.

That's just a video of students driving out. Where did the school forbid them from driving cars?

They specifically listed what they warned them about, of which the video proves none of it, and you don already equate am to mental laziness.

What exactly in this video relates to the memo you posted?
Na wa for u o.

The search bar on the video reads "AAU Sign Out 2025 " meaning the video is in relation to the recent sign out at AAU. We discussed earlier about the memo in which the school announced cancellation of some papers because the students did car parade, blocked some access roads with their convoy , etc as agsinst the school rules.

Someone has gone ahead to bring a video of the students' vehicles leaving their faculty (probably proceeding to the point where they blocked the access roads in their road show) , but here u are still trying to claim what I don't even know.

You spent all morning trying to justify the unreasonable punishment. You were sounding as if all the students own cars and were guilty of the offence, now dem show u the number of cars involved in the parade u don dey change mouth. Haba!

You see now that it is only just mental laziness that made the school management come up with the nonsense decision of cancelling the entire students' exams.

I know the intention of the lecturers is to ensure all the students who flashed their expensive cars come back to rewrite the course so they can mock them and if possible fail as many of them as possible. But this is Nigeria, we all know that most of the students who owned those cars are not relying on whatever they have written in the exam hall. Most of them will sort their way even if they re-write the exam 100 times.

The school management while chasing shadows should be reasonable enough to know that the real serious students are the ones whom they will end up punishing. The serious students who want to go for NYSC ASAP will end up getting punished unjustly. Most of the people who own those cars don't even give a 4ck about school.

Your matter is at the departmental level , so it will always go down that way.

At the SUG level , those kind casting level no dey happen. Even some of their protests used to have blessings of some alumni who are now in state house of assembly as honorable and different position in government. I once shared a story of how I almost had an extra year here in my final year.

Our school started no school fees no test not even exam oooo. As the immediate ex President of my departmental association, our people came to me to ask me to talk to our HoD. I asked our HoD if they will allow final year to write the test even without paying yet or they will allow us to write it after paying the school fees. He answered NO to both question. So we final year agreed that once the test start, we will all refuse to enter the hall to write it. First paper was our HoD paper International Accounting, test about to start and he said those that have paid their fees should enter the hall, omo na so some girls started entering and some follow follow guys. Don't forget that we all agreed not to write the test ooo but they betrayed us. Out of 112 students, na about 60 dey inside hall, na so this outside begin riot, throwing pure water at the students inside, banging the door and all. Some even threatened to slap our HoD. As the ex President and recognized leader, I tried to ask our HoD for way out, he asked me to go speak to Dean of student affairs but unfortunately the man wasn't around. The chaos refused to stop so our HoD cancel the test, as he came out of the hall, he came straight to where I was, pointed at me and said I will never graduate.

Like play like play, rumours started flying to a other campuses that Accounting Department
President wanted to beat their HoD and all sorts. A week later they pasted my names and all my friends to face panel. Out of over 50 students, they only pick me and my circle of friends. 6 of us. We faced panel 3 times. It was one of our lecturers that told me that they want to expel us as a lesson to others and that the only person that can help us is our HoD and our Provost.

Thankfully our Provost was a Pastor, we left our school to go to his church inside Ibadan, after service we just started prostrating and begging. The man was visibly embarrassed and decided to hear our plea. He then told us to go beg our HoD and that if the man can forgive us, the letter an be used to help us reduce from expulsion to just 1 semester suspension. Las las we begged and begged our HoD and he wrote a letter on our behalf.

On the day we were suppose to begin final exams, we got our disciplinary letters, thankfully our HoD recommended total forgiveness for us and they just gave us last warnings and let us off. I'm still grateful to our HoD till today. Funny enough, both of his course he taught us during that period I had B in both.
Any protest that don't have the full co-operation of student union and majority of the students will surely fail. That's why they always say injustice to one is injustice to all. Na why when dem wan start aluta, they always have series of meetings on how to effect full compliance from all students after they must have done rigorous consultations.

Nowhere in the memo was there any mention of any havoc being wreak to the school properties. You are importing this into the discussion just to make a point that is non existent in the discourse.

So because the school cannot fish out the guilty parties, then they should punish everybody both the guilty and the innocent?

Yes! We had people who wrote their exams and left immediately. We had people who couldn't even afford to buy that Final year shirt people customize.

Why are u acting like u didn't even saw extremely poor fellow graduates in NYSC camp? There were people who couldn't afford to miss a single meal served at the NYSC kitchen simply because they couldn't afford to buy food at Mammi market.

This is something they have been planning all semester, the school knows students have cars and have blocked access areas before
They released a memo to address this, the students couldn't plan their FYD in a way not to violate school law
The school react , you want to blame the school
The students should snitch on their mates then if they don't want to rewrite because that's what I will do
This is where u are missing it. The law is made for students and not for departments/buildings.

If the school is saying students should not do this and they believe students have done exactly this thing, the onus is on the school to fish out the erring students and punish them accordingly. It is mental laziness and complete irresponsibility for the school management to punish all students for something they do not have evidence to show that all students did.

I have given a very logical example of police arresting the whole occupants of a building simply because one person in that house assaulted a policeman. It is wrong and illegal.

You steal public funds in Nigeria? You go to jail
You steal in China? You are killed.

If you don't want to be killed, go and steal in Nigeria.

AAU has a right to put a law. You and I and the 3 departments cannot dictate to them how to run their school.

They repeatedly passed the memo and yet 3 departments decided to flout it. How come others didn't? You should ask yourself that

We can fight for the others by using videos to fish out the perpetrators; since what the Dean and HODs saw on that day isn't enough.

Or better still, they shouldn't rewrite. They should protest like you said.
You are just trying to turn logic on its head but u are failing woefully at it.

You claimed 3 departments flouted the school laws , nobody has argued to the contrary .Now answer this question: "Is it fair to punish all the final year students of the 3 departments for an offence committed by few of them?" .

I'm sure u will never answer the question because u know the answer will flaw ur own logic.

If the Dean, HOD's and lecturers are that are saddled with the responsibility of Moulding leaders of tomorrow who are supposed to create a fair and just society cannot be fair in apportioning punishment to specific erring students; what gives u the impetus to think this country will ever be better?

If u will support such unreasonable stand by the school authority, why not let us just revert to military rule in which anybody can be punished at the discretion of whoever is in power without thinking about fairness and proportionality when meting out punishment?

Why are you emphasizing on injustice, when all the departments in AAU obeyed, except these 3?

Should schools not have laws again? If someone was killed in that celebration or properties were vandalized, we will still come back and call AAU a useless school.

I hope they don't rewrite it sha. Is it not Nigeria again?

You are providing example of covenant kicking specific Muslim students out (not all Muslim students but the particular erring ones) to justify AAU punishing all students who took their final exams that day. Can't u see how flawed ur logic is?

You have stylishly refused to address the injustice of punishing students who wrote the same papers but didn't have car to block gate nor bundles of cash to throw away.

U can't claim to be enforcing a law while trampling on the rights of innocent students.

You really don't know the evil u are supporting at all. It's just like one person beating a policeman in uniform in a 3 storey building and the next day the police shows up to pack all occupants of the building, detain them and charge them for assault on an officer of the law. If the police cannot identify the specific individual who assaulted the officer, then they are wrong to arrest and jail the whole occupants of the building.

Some of the students couldn’t even afford to eat a meal before the exams .

When I was in 400l the school management abruptly announced the date of our 400l 1st semester exams and date of closure of course registration on the school portal out of the blues .

A lot of students were in disarray and saw extra semester staring them in the face . They appealed for the school to have a rethink but the school management didn’t budge . To think indigent students comprised the vast majority of the student population didn’t move the school management one bit.

The portal was eventually closed and a lot of 400l students hadn’t registered their courses before the closure . The implication of this is that even if u pay ur school fees after the cut off date , u still wouldn’t be able to register ur courses and any exams u write ; the result will never get uploaded to ur academic profile .

On the day th me school scheduled for the first paper , student union guys and multitude of students don mount school compound as early as 5.30am. They pursued the school security guards off their duty post and stationed patiently waiting for the reinforcements of armed anti-riot policemen to show face . They sacked the VC and deputy VC’s cars , had to be dispersed by anti riot policemen and the school was closed indefinitely .

The school management caved in and allowed ample time for the affected students to register and write the exams as against their initial position. I never saw anything like that before 🥵

As it then I wasn’t in support of the students’ actions and even till now I don’t think their actions sit down well with me , but that was the first time I saw students acting in unison against what they believe to be against their common interest and won.

I believe the Ekpoma guys can take a leaf from the situation.

So if schools should have laws , the penalty should be to cancel all exams written by all students and ask them to reseat exams Abi ?

What happened to identifying the students involved in the “breaking of the school laws “ and punishing them for their” offences “?

If u want to go about the route of UK or US schools then u should be ready to do what they will do in the same circumstance . Those schools u want to reference will fish out the perpetrators/guilty students who carried out the car display , unnecessary hooting and blocking of access roads; they will punish them accordingly .

The point is: It makes absolutely no sense for u to tell me wey borrow money to buy candle to read for my last exams to go back and reseat am exam I gave my 100% best simply because my fellow students chose to break the law . Nobody punishes the entire populace for the sin of few in advanced society .

Matters Arising at Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma:

The school earlier issued directives prohibiting excessive celebration of final exams involving car display, spraying of money, shouting and hooting within ghe campus. Apparently some students violated this directive and the school management in its "almighty wisdom" thinks the best punishment is for them to cancel all papers written on the final day of the exams .

My personal opinion on the matter : The only reason this nonsense injustice will stand is if student unionism has died in public universities in Nigeria . Under any guise , there’s no justification whatsoever for any student to be made to rewrite an exam he or she didn’t fail nor was caught engaging in exam malpractice .

If the student union of this school knows their onions, they should stage a massive protest that will shake the whole state , shut down every academic and non academic activities within the school premises indefinitely and force the school management to come down from the high horse they are seated on.

In fact , they should occupy the school indefinitely such that even if armed policemen and soldiers are deployed to the school premises they will be unable to curtail the students who will insist the school management goes on radio to announce reversal of this callous and useless memo. The school senate/management should not even be allowed to seat and deliberate on the matter within the school premises .
