daveP: Did you just spit down on African talents to justify Brazilians? Like seriously
Abeg forget that Afcon excuse. It's not enough reason to ever justify what Edu did. Never. The Brazilians he focused on las las, how many don arrive do anything unique like the Chilean, Sanchez? Many Africans are balling. Many European and Asians dey too. South Americans talented than Brazilians dey too. That was too low for such a position to do. Tomorrow, if we get one that suddenly prioritize Africans, it will still be wrong.
I can't believe you wrote a whole paragraph to justify this. I gave u two examples of 2 Brazilians currently in our team who are actually doing well. I didn't just write without facts; I gave u reasons why Edu's decision is not bad and gave u example of such players he has brought-in who have gone on to be successful and importatnt players to our team. Aside that we see Brazilian players generally doing well playing for European clubs which is the reason why u see them winning more world cups than other countries and also doing well in Ballon D'or/WPOTY history. Now answer the question: How many Africans have achieved that much? Do u even know bad it is that a single nation like Brazil is doing better than the whole African continent with over 50 countries? What u call spitting down on African talent is me saying the truth the way it is. Football is more of serious business than emotions. Emotions will not get u anywhere; In the past when we had African players they were always leaving at the crucial stage of the league to represent their team in AFCON due to the awkward timing of the competition. |

GloriousGbola: that is why successful first generation athletes and artistes are usually from very poor backgrounds. they never had anything to lose in the first place. but you already have opportunities available to you - and your parents were weighing the risks.
and it is much worse with football in particular which has a very narrow window in which you can hammer. You are very correct ; the few people who made it are those whose parents couldn’t afford to send them to higher institutions even if they wanted to . They are mostly people who struggled to finish secondary school despite being beneficiaries of Lagos state free education up to secondary school level . For those who had options, their parents encouraged them to have good SSCE result to have a good shot at university and then make something out of their degree in the future . |

daveP: Im pissed to just find out that Edu was doing scouting for Brazilians as though Arsenal was Brazil FC. He did lots of ground work towards recruiting and 60% of this project was on brazilians?
60%
Wow. That's insane. Guy didn't even look to Africans once😂😂😂😂
Real pissed Pissed keh? It's no secret that Brazilians are mostly better footballers compared to Africans na. So many talents have been unearthed from that country in the past. If he gets very good defenders from Brazil and they deliver I have no issues with that honestly. Just juxtapose the number of Africans that have won Ballon D'or/WPOTY with that of Brazil and u will see that he's not wrong prioritizing Brazilians over Africans. In fact let's not go far, look at players like Gabriel who is a Brazilian; see how well he plays for us. How many African CB's play as spirited and talented as he is in the EPL for a top club? Don't also forget that African players can be a pain in the arse for any coach particularly in January of an AFCON year when they will go for the competition at a time when the EPL is getting interesting and u need all hands to be on deck. We have fallen victim of this as a club in the past. |

raumdeuter: Someone wrote an interesting thread on going for football trial and making it as a pro in Europe Most of this we already know
https://x.com/tobyasky/status/1882533784924356819?s=19[/quote]Last week I was at my sister's, and we were discussing how and why I didn't play professional football despite being a talented amateur footballer back then. She was curious as to why I didn't pursue a career in football, and I reminded her how our mum would not even allow me go for training while my mates whom we play set together had registered at a local academy where they all train.
Back then our parents see playing football as a means to waste away your future. There are enough bros in the area who followed the path of football and never made it to professional level despite being very good footballers. This speaks to the number 1 fact in that guy's thread which states that only about 1% of youth players make it to professional level. We had so many of those bros who wasted their years going for trainings, playing local competitions and even going outside the country for trials strictly on self-sponsorship level.
Some of those bros are now in their 40's now, no skill whatsoever, they didn't learn a trade and don't have education beyond ND at most. This dampened the spirit of parents, and they forbade most of their kids from towing that same line. The few ones who made it to play in NPFL, other African country leagues and eastern Europe quickly relocated their parents. Even when those ones come around and bring agents to do preliminary talent hunt/trials at the local field, the few people who still get selected still have to deal with possibility of rejection when they go for trial outside the country. The margin of success was just too low that parents will force their kids to go to school over choosing a career in football.
However, now with the advent of social media and youtube being a veritable tool for posting clips of how good an amateur player is; I think the odds are much better in favor of the young talents. |

raumdeuter: Bros when I see some former players dey yab current players, I dey wonder say no be the same footballers we watch? Carragher, Gary Neville Lescott
For the current Liverpool team I dont know who e fit bench. It's usually those that weren't spectacular footballers that always get the Sports analyst gigs. While their mates will be getting invited to FIFA and UEFA events as legends in retirement, they will be on TV criticizing current players who are clearly better than them . |

raumdeuter: But there are some careers that are not valued in certain countries. Maybe IT skils are not valued in Nigeria that much compared to Western countries. For example Medical related professions in Nigeria. I know a few doctors post housemanship went to apply for Bank jobs and worked in a Bank in the mid 2000s. Na when you go abroad na him Doctors and Nurses get value, for Naija na same level with teachers and those Auxiliary nurse equivalent of CNA in America. In Naija Auxiliary nurse no get rating at all
I am not sure but a Bank worker probably makes more than a doctor today in Nigeria(same year of graduation). I get u , but that's not the case here. IT skills are very much appreciated in Nigeria. People who are just IT support staff get well paid 6 figures ,not to talk of a front-end developer that can code in at least 2 different programming language. I think it is just this particular recruiter that is fumbling. And u are right, the salary of ET in Nigerian banks as full staff is very much better than a fresh medical doctor's salary |

GloriousGbola: Actually the onus is on the job seeker to jump and pass. At least they are up front about the salary. No ambiguity. Not that you will go through recruitment process, multiple test and interview and they will now tell you this is what we are offering
It is actually a typical story in employment Depending on the company you are working in you can be doing the exact same thing as someone else for a fraction of the salary
Which is what happens to contract Staff in particular. You are right, the people who have the required skills will just see the job advert and laugh it off; there's no need wasting time to apply and go through a rigorous recruitment process. |

If you are into Tech, then Nigeria shouldnt be your market This recruiter is just deliberately wicked ni jare or maybe they are looking for a student who just passed out of secondary school and learnt coding.
