Oga there were several dull science students in my secondary school . And for the smart science students , I don’t consider them superior because we took same courses up till the point we were separated in SSS class and they never bested me .

We are making the same point. Sharp students in science and dunces in Arts. I don't recall specifically making a choice in SS1, Science was always a given. The choice is usually with the dunces in Arts who want to do Science and have to make their will be known. But the choice is there.

If you have been sitting in an area of class with sharp minds like Bode, Souala and Arinze from JSS1 to 3, sharp irons who also sharpen your iron, you will not willingly go and sit with Mumudu and Portable in Arts class who you have known as dunces since JSS1, that's recipe to dull yourself.

Na only u know why u Dey talk down on other people’s choice of department sha . Only u know wetin art don do u in ur first life . 🤷‍♂️

Question - How do we raise our kids to have aptitude for mathematics?

I believe it's the bedrock and foundation for STEM courses and would want my kids to do STEMs.

Me, I was average in it and wifey though a first class & distinction graduate read sociology.

Though its early days, my 6-year old in Basic 2 is already showing a dislike for it and grumbles whenever its time to do Maths home work.

Have u tried getting him a home tutor ?

Sometimes home tutors help kids learn better

It's in SS1 you decide after everybody done know themselves for Junior Secondary. Nobody decides for you. Are you telling me you were decided for?

In SS1 they automatically place extremely brilliant students in Science class irrespective of what they decide . You will only be placed in art or commercial if u insist.

Other students are allowed to freely make their choice ; tho the school counselor still tries to convince them on what may be best for them .

Nobody ship anybody to science class. In my time we all choose our specialisations and the A class students all choose Science while the dunces in B-D choose Arts. Even the smartest nigga in my class that knew he wanted to become a lawyer chose Science, and he is a lawyer now.

Well, I my time nobody lets u decide ur specialization in JSS class when u’ve not been tested to know where u would actually fit in as per ur performance .

It’s in Senior secondary class the talking specialization came into the picture . We clearly studied under two different education system .

E get reason why those in class A from JSS 1-3 ended up as Science students in Senior secondary while those in classes B-D in Junior secondary starting forming Art student in Senior Secondary

I don't know how your school separated students on ability but we know ourselves right from JSS 1 based on class A to D system

In my school u write JSCE set by Lagos state ministry of education in JSS3 and that is what they normally use in determining what department to place students in Senior secondary class.

They don’t just ship people JSS3 A to science class in SS1 . That is why I kept on telling u to stop generalizing .

U can only speak for urself and the people u know . The science students in my set still respect me till date. E get reason why. I made my O’levels writing GCE in SS2 while they called it their own first attempt which they made some papers and didn’t make some . They either had D7 in English or Maths making their result incomplete .

You people should just stop generalizing based on ur personal experiences .

A science student will smash Government and all those other nonsense courses with one day revision or just general knowledge picked up from radio, TV or suya wrappers.

As an example, I smashed A in GCSE Geography without opening book one day. Just from general knowledge and simple classroom attendance without any revision. Same with English GCSE. I mixed up the exam date, received a phone call from the Headteacher who said I haven't arrived for exam and he is sending an A Level student to my house to pick me up. Luckily my house was 5 mins drive from school. I arrived 30 mins late for a 2 hour exam, still finished 30 mins early and collected B with zero revision. Mind you till today I don't know difference between pronoun, adjective and adverb. I just know how words fit together. Same thing for English literature which I sparked with zero revision. The reading of the books in class was enough. The only subjects I studied for were Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and I sparked everything except French where I collected C.





There is nothing like all rounder. You only have science students who can do non-STEM courses with their eyes closed, while non-STEM students go dey Cho Cho Cho. Even with non-STEM, the lawyers were great science students who only specialised toward law after finishing STEM at secondary school level to a high level

The secondary school education in Nigeria is diffent what obtains in the UK .

Exams that involve explanation would be difficult without some form of preparation, but for multiple choice exams, even without preparation, you can find some courses quite relatable and do fairly okay, and[b] I believe that's what Ihebu meant.

You have a habit of renovating people’s speech and “saying what u think someone meant “. Person wey talk no put any qualifying words to say he was referring to multiple choice or theory exam.

He just felt because of his general knowledge of systems of government , current affairs and listening to news he would ace a subject called “Government “ . He attempted saw a glimpse of multiple choice questions and agreed he won’t ace it like he claimed earlier .

I never claimed I will ace a science course without proper planning and preparation . You were the one who claimed u will do what u couldn’t .

If I intend to take a science exam , I will take my time to take lessons on the fundamentals , do hours of study and practice questions . I won’t just wake one Saturday morning and claim I will do the unthinkable .

These are stand alone topics in WAEC and JAMB syllabus. Those constitutions are taught in relation to their specific features , what they introduced into governance in Nigeria , what was considered as their Merits and demerits and reason what issues the constitution introduced after it addressed .

You will fail woefully listing generic merits and demerits a constitution. That is when u will know the so called smart students is actually not smart

Na that Intro Tech people dey first use know say whether dem go do science or not, and after SS1 when they meet Physics and Chemistry they'd come to that decision finally. You can still wing integrated science, it was just a notch more complex than basic science that's very relatable, science inclined or not.

Even within domains where there's a higher degree of proximity between the courses, some courses are more difficult than others. For example, accounting grad no go dey talk say e course hard make business admin grad follow put mouth. Or in Sciences, a biochem grad would be saying their course was hard, and a botany or microbiology grad is putting mouth inside, or Chemistry grad put mouth inside pure Mathematics grad talk

The same applies to Ihebu . I have proven that he won’t pass Government the way he assumed earlier which he acknowledged .

U are only making my point for me. Nobody should sit and be assuming they will pass subjects in other people’s field because it feels funky to do so.

I'm sure even within BlueRay's social science, he'd acknowledge that some areas and topics are more difficult than others, but let somebody say science is more difficult than social science, he'd be up in arms

Some things are naturally more relatable than others, hence they'd be easier. For me, in order of difficult I'd rank it physical sciences/engineering, arts/biological sciences tie, then social sciences. I think social sciences are easiest because on some level, we all can relate with it, doesn't mean there are no very difficult aspects in the social sciences, or outliers in social sciences that'd best some of the best science students.

E get why US and global scholarship opportunities tend to priortize STEM subjects...even the ordinary physics you talk, for secondary school, it was far from ordinary.

You are not saying anything new that we don’t know or that I have not addressed up there .

There’s a reason people are advised to go for courses they identify as their comfort zone .

I once mentioned it here that I was placed in the sciences in SS1 off my JSCE result which was actually the best in the whole school . But because I don’t feel any real passion for the sciences , I took it upon myself to have me reassigned to commercial class .

I could as well have gone to the sciences , struggle like most students do, pass WAEC after 2 or 3 attempts , get into the university to study a course , struggle with my grades , have sleepless nights , graduate with an average grade and then join the hordes of people shouting “ science is hard “ .


If u are cut for science do it, if u are cut for art or sciences , do it as well. But don’t sit in one corner and be running mouth on other people’s choice of career/study path u have not walked in. E no gel at all

The same way u think physics , chemistry and maths are hard , some people actually find them very easy to assimilate . It’s more like brains are different from each other.

Some people find it easy to pass courses ghat involve calculations and principles , while others find it easier to pass courses that involves reading , understanding and application of the knowledge to real life scenarios or case study.

Do not make the mistake of thinking because u find it hard to understand and pass courses involving calculations ; then others will too. Brain pass brain. Some people are all rounder, some people are just numeric knowledge centric , etc

It’s that fact that u actually think Government as a subject just involves them testing ur knowledge of democracy , socialism , communism etc.

By the time u see 10 consecutive questions bothering on McPherson constitution , policy of assimilation , Clifford constitution, Lyttelton constitution and Richard’s constitution and u didn’t get one correctly ; u will be humbled .
