Exousiang01: It's a global practice. Stop being ignorant. would you have preferred if innocent people had gotten mixed with this criminals and you had happened to be one of the innocent persons?
Would you have prefered if some of those boys were armed and they came out blazing and you get hit by a stray bullet? Una go just dey fault agencies even when they are doing good job Stop projecting ur nonsense logic on others . The people arrested are camped inside one single building . All EFCC did was match them down from upstairs to their bus parked downstairs . That does not warrant locking down a whole street that is a major road that is vital to the road network in the whole VI. Some of u just talk trash to defend government agencies and their excesses . I’m sure if ur relative was in an ambulance on the way to receive an emergency treatment due to the traffic that spiraled from the unnecessary road block , u won’t be saying this . I’m not surprised tho, when Nigerians are not affected by act of government and its agencies they will be willing to offer their blood to defend every nonsense the government agency does . PS : Nowhere did I ever say EFCC was wrong in effecting the arrests , it is the brazen manner in which they threw the whole VI axis into traffic gridlock that should be condemned |

reccy: The bolded is so true.
One time like that, my guy went to INEC office for Okene to get his Voter's card. He was told his Voter's card was not available. For more than five years, yet, it's not available for collection. Along the line, he had serious misunderstanding with the staff, exchanging words with them (Obviously, that's their modus- operandi. Only God knows why).
So, along the line, they called the security personnel and they picked up my guy.
We were in the field around 4pm when my guy called telling us to show for police station that he has been detained. Three of us went with our jerseys on. We were told the story that ensued and the need to bail him with 15k.
None of us came with cash. To transfer, no. Ok, let one of us withdraw for POS nearby, Omo, these guys on black uniforms refused any of us leaving the premise for any reason at all. It's either we bail him right now or join him in the cell. Which kain wahala be dis
We had to call someone to help us withdraw money and bring it for us.
Those people are monster. They need serious reform. It's that bad!!! The Bailee turn to remanded 😂😂😂😂 Nigeria police can be just crazy . U will lose valuables including money and ur ATM card ; police go still tell u to pay for reporting the crime . |

They arrested 792 people and you didn’t think they would block off a road that is just a single carriage flowing in just one direction?
I’ve seen policemen do worse in New York which is way busier. By the way, you could have walked up to them to complain while the operation was on, instead of ranting here na SMH. So it takes a whole street to be blocked to arrest unharmed individuals camped into one building off a street with several buildings? It is well with u and whatever agenda u are pushing . |

yoruboid: Even in the US, policemen create scenes and cordon roads when making arrest of just one criminal
How much more 792? We must give it to them. It’s a job well done by the EFCC I’m not giving anything to them. If u know the street , u will know blocking off the street was totally unnecessary. The people they arrested are inside just one building ; all they needed was march them down from the building to their vehicles parked beside the building . Blocking off the entire street and preventing other road users from using the road makes absolute no sense during closing hours . That singular act caused serious spiraling traffic all over V.I that day . They can effect the arrests without creating a scene . |

Pre-GSM days boys dey last 1 week inside cell if dey are roaming at the wrong time or in the wrong place. You don't have to be in a game/snooker center or caught up in a fight, although those situations increase your risk. That time it wasn’t a regular occurrence that is done arbitrarily on a daily basis with the intent of extorting people of bail money . From the little I can remember then, people get rounded up where there’s a major fracas in an area or there’s a consistent report of crime in an area . |

GloriousGbola: i regularly take my son with me on domestic errands. police stop us to greet me, smile and ask anything for the boys
i always tell him - if you are the one driving this car and you are not with me they WILL stop you and harass you they will not be smiling. you will see them in their real element, feral greedy, violent and cruel
as a young male in nigeria - police want and expect you to be doing yahoo so they can shake you down they want to catch you with contraband so they can arrest you and shake you down. you have to be constantly paranoid
i also warn the boy about being out late after dark for the same reason. and to be very careful whee he hangs out.
people play basketball in shoprite festac - but even i can see the place is now a den of drug dealers. he plays ball there and told me that yes - people approached him to sell drugs to him
and of course, nigeria police will take any excuse to run around arresting people if there is a robbery in the area - they will round people up if it is christmas eve- they will round people up - one year my 10 year old cousin was arrested for selling banger and we had to go to the station to bail her out if you are out late at night - they can round you up on top of that we all know that police profile people. you drive a lexus or corolla - you are a yahoo boy. you carry dreads, you are a yahoo boy.
even i profile males i come across
this cartoon may make it clearer - which is why ibime said as a certified ajebo the boy simply should not have been outside alone . if the boy had been ion a car with the driver the police would immediately have profiled him as big man pikin.
in fact as a naija matter i am suprised that the police saw the boys oyibo father and still insisted on hanging on to the boy. that does not track at all. oyibo man in naija can get away with anything and are extremely well connected. i who as an oyel employee had former police commissioner number - now an oyibo man with multiple friends in senior mgt positions in corporate nigeria? If u don enter police cell , they have 100% power over u o. If u don’t come with military personnel who are willing to cause havoc at the station , forget it u will be at the mercy of the policemen while in their facility . I’m sure the woman and the husband were too traumatized to be flexing power about who and who they know at that point. They only want their teenage child who must have had his belt taken off , his shirt taken off or turned inside out and being made to sit on the bare floor . As a parent if u see ur teenage son in that condition , all u will want to do is get him out of there ASAP and think of dealing with the policemen later |

So this was why EFCC blocked off the entire Oyin Jolayemi street last week ( I can’t remember if it was Monday or Tuesday ) ?
It was a complete mess that day , they caused a massive traffic for every law abiding Nigerians that day around office closing hours . Anybody in V.I that day would remember how terrible the traffic was and how people were stranded .
I really don’t understand why our security agencies must create one problem while trying to solve another one. They literally prevented anybody from accessing Oyin Jolayemi street with a vehicle by parking vans at the beginning of the street and had to force everybody to pass alternative routes that were quite narrow and overflowing traffic . |

Ibime: It is what it is. Like Diddy said, I tell it how it is and you tell it how it might be. There are countless examples of young people being interned, I'm surprised that you are surprised. FGC PH students are very familiar with being interned in Bori Camp in my time, they will just come and round up anyone they see, same way Comprehensive students in my hood in Borokiri are regular in Navy Camp. We are talking 13 to 17 year olds, no be anything special, na Naija we dey talk. While this lady go on Twitter like it's something unheard of, these incidents na wetin my guys dey use joke today like "Remember when Bori Camp soldiers round us up that time, carry us go sanko and X and Y father had to come and get us released". God forbid they even catch you outside without exiat, you go swap dormitory for cell. Well, maybe because we grew up in different cities and at different times sha . Growing up in Lagos, the only reasons u will get rounded up and locked up by the police are : 1. You get arrested when police carry out raids on Game Center’s where gambling on video games ,table tennis , snooker and whot are being carried out . 2. You get caught up in a fight between ur secondary school and another secondary school or outsiders which members of the community called the police to come and break up. In each of the instances above , u will hear an earful from ur parents when they eventually secure ur release from the police cell cos u have just brought shame and disgrace to ur family . Parents care about what neighbors gossip concerning the behavior of their kids and are always embarrassed for being put in such position by their kids . Now to the boy arrested , that’s an all time low for the Nigerian police . Even me that was already an adult and a 200level student in the university when I was arrested , the whole thing was traumatizing for me and my parents . Imagine my parents having to find their way to police station around 12 am to 12.30am in the middle of the night only to be told their son whom police randomly picked on the street around 9.30pm to 9.45pm cannot be released until next morning . Prior to that time, we all thought only people who have committed a crime or misdemeanor get arrested and locked up by the authorities . We didn’t know police authorities make random arrest of people just to farm bail money for themselves . So, I can imagine the rude shock the boy’s parents would’ve experienced seeing their 15 year old boy being detained in a foul smelling police detention facility . Even me , when I was released I left home for school same day and didn’t return home for a long time cos I was traumatized by the whole incident . Till date , I get nervous when I see any commercial bus slowly moving with its full light in my direction in the night. I sometimes freak out not because of robbers but because of policemen. 🤦♂️ |

And based on the son being arrested, the Oyinbo man eye finally opened to take his family out of Naija?
I won't say that's the trigger, the Oyinbo man must have had something worthwhile doing in Nigeria in the first place that makes him overlook all the danger of Naija. Simple arrest of his wife's son won't be the main cause of him relocating.
The lady is acting surprised at Naija Police as if her leg never strong for ground all these years. These are all part and parcel of being a Nigerian. About 7 years ago one of my relative was falsely accused of rape of a minor. We know the people who made the accusation and know they wanted to shake us down for money. The father of the minor is even one of Atekes boys. After the family have approached us for "settlement" running into the low millions, all I did was release N200k to the Police chief in the station where my relative was held and get a lawyer on his case. First thing the lawyer asked the Police to do was to send the "victim" to Medicins Sans Frontier for examination where it was determined that she had not been defiled and her hymen was intact. Still they wanted to prosecute through this FIDA group who were working with the extortionists. Long story short we were faced with settling the extortionists plus FIDA for some low millions, or settling the Police plus lawyer fees for N500k total and going to trial with a favourable report from the DPO for an innocent man. We took court option, make dem no say these guys done settle for neighborhood, and the innocent man was exonerated. Around N700k total.was spent on the matter and that was the cost of justice even though the man was innocent. The way u trivialize a 15 year old kid getting picked up by police officers within his estate and getting locked up like a criminal several kilometers from parents’ residence is confusingly amusing sha . I only said that of the Immigration should be different.
I never said what the Police does makes sense. The entire Police Unit sef doesn't make sense to me at all. The excuse does not hold water and visa interview is quite different from capturing at an immigration center . Maybe FESTAC center is quite different from Ikoyi o, but there’s genuinely no reason for them to ask people put their phones away in an immigration capturing room. At the Ikoyi capturing room , u can have 20 people ushered into the room at the same time sitting in chairs patiently waiting for their turn. U have like 4 cameras and 4 officers manning them . When 4 passport applicants are asked to step forward and have their biometrics done, the rest 16 people will be seated patiently waiting for their turn . While the capturing is going on for those 4 people , u have immigration officers keep barking instructions and telling the remaining 16 people to put their phone away. Even if u have a work related email or message u need to urgently attend to while waiting , u won’t be allowed to . They will threaten to send u outside once they see ur phone in sight and won’t allow u in again . While u are patiently waiting , u will see them bring in one or two people who will directly go to meet the officers doing capturing without joining the waiting list . When u want to protest , they will ask u threateningly “ madam what is the matter ? “. That way u just have to keep quiet and allow since u have waited that long to make it into the capturing room. They don’t even hide it taking money from those people they brought in and fast tracked their capturing . It is my strong opinion that their hostile attitude towards seeing phone on sight is to prevent u from making either a voice or video recording of the rubbish they are doing . |

If everyone was on their phones and making calls, there's a tendency to make errors or capture people wrongly.
How come the same excuse holds water in a visa interview for any embassy? They even ask you to switch it off, and we gladly do it.
I haven't seen exchange of monies in a capturing room. Yes, people are brought in after sorting officers, but it doesn't happen inside that room. Maybe you have seen sha.
But no usage of phones happens in many places. That is my own reality at the Ikoyi passport officer. I even know the name of the junior officer , but have no reason to mention his name here sha. Nobody stays on long queue to wait for his turn and them starts pressing phone when it is time to capture. Just like how you are not allowed to use your phones in a visa interview. This excuse holds no water at all. They literally bring people(special candidates) to jump queue while u are patiently waiting for capturing. People do protest but there's nothing u can do about it. They threaten to send u out even if they see ur phone in sight without u operating it. Which attention are they looking for when u are in an enclosed room and patiently waiting to be captured? They are simply preventing u from capturing the jumping of queue and money exchanging hands happening. Na wetin I use my two eyes see I dey talk o, not hearsay. |

On Xmas eve some years ago they arrested my 10 year old cousin for selling banger. We went to the station and it was full of different people who had been picked up. They clearly had a target sum of money to raise. You are looking at things from the viewpoint of someone living on the mainland with next door neighbors u relate with . People who live on the island with a whole building at their disposal and no next door neighbor they relate with don’t have much social circle outside their family members . There are people in this Lagos who don’t even know what Oshodi looks like and there’s nothing wrong about that . They stay most of their life on the island and only go to the mainland to board a flight at Murtala Mohammed international airport ikeja . You don’t know whether she has fertility issues or not . She didn’t deny or confirm that in her post ; she only said she was pregnant which is normal for any woman who’s not past menopause . If she were to be in her 50’s as at the time of the incident , we may start doubting her story that how’s it possible she’s pregnant with child as at that time . The point is it makes absolutely no sense for the police to be arresting people at random and claim it’s “raiding “ . It is against the law , there’s no justification for that at all. |

GloriousGbola: It is a harrowing story but as an aside - that woman is not preparing her children for life especially in Nigeria
Homeschooled No social circles outside the family Never went anywhere without us.
Unless she is exaggerating sha.
The part about her being pregnant is also kind of off to me. 15 years between children? There are enough homeschooled children in this country . There’s nothing wrong with being homeschooled at all . Recently I saw one sharp 3 year old kid and I was told she’s homeschooled ; she sounds more intelligent than her contemporaries who got shipped to crèche since they were one year old . As regards being pregnant 15 years apart , there absolutely nothing wrong with that . Some people are unable to get pregnant after having one or two kids not by their own design , I’ve seen countless videos on TikTok where Gen Z’s make posts about their mums having kids 18 years after they had them . There’s no hole to pick in her story at all. Nigeria police arrest kids for looking fresh , they arrest kids for owing iPhones and they arrest kids for just being outside their parents’ house . Police don arrest me for trying to buy recharge card in the next two streets around past 9 and they claim it was “wandering “ . So, I can relate to her story of how naija police can move really mad . |

popizaino: I was just about to share this story. Na person way Nigeria never happen to go dey form patriot. It’s very easy to form patriot when hand never meet u. The thing can be frustrating . Imagine the lady having to relocate abroad because of that ugly incident . She had to leave her Naija friends and family and follow her white husband to relocate for her immediate family’s peace of mind . Imagine how her white husband will feel when the useless DPO told him their son’s crime was just because he dyed his hair . |
