All the nurses , doctors and other professionals wey japa in recent years and are making a kill off their skills abroad are funneling back home those dollars and pounds to buy properties in that axis . Naturally those resident in Nigeria trying to buy same property will be outbidded by the dollar/pounds wielding abroadians like yourself .

One bros wey I go greet wey come home from Scotland in January told us that he’s in his 3rd year abroad and he’s managed to buy 3 properties within that period ; two in Ogun state and one around Alagbado part of Lagos state . I wasn't against Olumide Akpata's candidacy, but knowing the mood of the people that election cycle, I understood why his candidacy would be tricky, hence why I referred to it as non-starter.

Asue Ighodalo, the candidate I supported is a very accomplished individual and some even say Olumide Akpata's experience as a legal professional doesn't hold a candle close to Asue Igodalo's. Bar the Obaseki baggage, AI was head and shoulder above any other person that was running.

It's clear that GRV has chosen to make public policy and governance his focus, leveraging his experience as an MIT-trained architect to provide ideas on urban planning, social engineering and other aspects of governance. When it comes to matters like that, he's quite the guy, and that's one of the reasons I supported and continue to support him.

He didn't have any likeness for any of the previous heads of state/president so it was easy for him to criticize their government without caring whose ox is gored. However, because of his "likeness" for Tinubu is most likely due to whatever favours Emilokan has done him in the past, he just can't help but let his bias shine through.

This is how I see people's expectation of Soyinka's critical assessment of Tinubu's administration:

1. Most people think he's a hypocrite for keeping quiet under this administration, despite being a vocal critic of past governments when things were not this bad in this country ...... If u ask me, I don't think those people are wrong calling him hypocrite because we can all see its just his bias that has made him keep refrain from that critical assessment he's done for various governments in the past.

Anyways, he's human afterall and entitled to his bias like the rest of us.

2. I think most people are angry that Wole Soyinka is quite old now and we might not get to see what he will be like when a new government takes over after Tinubu's administration ends (either in 2 years' time or 6 years' time whatever the case may be ). I mean he is 90 now, nobody will care much about the opinion of a 92 or 96 year man when a new government takes over; so people actually want to hear his unbiased opinion now that he is still lucid enough to grant interviews and make appearances on TV/Radio programs.

3. Wole Soyinka's disposition confirms the line of thought that "If you live long enough, you will see heroes turn villains)". I guess the baba just decided he doesn't want to be that guy who was neutral and gave opinion devoid of bias. He finally decided to pick a side during Tinubu's administration and that irks a whole lot of young people that have read about how he used to be an activist seem to have abandoned his calling when they needed him most.

People no dey gree sell their Naija used cars again because for u to get a replacement , u break the bank. So anytime someone puts his naija used car for sale no matter how old it is, u will see people rushing and calling for inspection ASAP.

Most vehicles bought as Tokunbo in the last 5 years , their naija used as of today is more expensive than the Tokunbo back then.

I know we have some finance gurus here who have different ways of investing their funds/hedging their funds against inflation and other uncertainties, but for the sake of those who don't I feel I should share this info on how best to increase ur savings while not being unduly exposed to risk of losing ur funds.

Stanbic IBTC asset management Limited has a product they sell which is called Stanbic IBTC Money Market Fund which is a very low risk investment vehicle with interest rate that fluctuates between 21% and 22% in recent times. What this means is that if u put let's say N5m and the prevailing interest rate is 21% all through the year, u will get at least N1.05m as interest at the end of the year( U will definitely get more than this because the interest is compounded for as long as u don't withdraw the funds).

So, instead of keeping N5m in your bank's savings account and ur bank will be deducting Account maintenance fee, sms charges and other associated bank charges on a monthly basis; u can keep the N5m in Stanbic IBTC Money Market Funds, and it will grow on a daily basis. The good thing is you can always check and monitor how your money grows on a daily basis when u log-in to your online funds account.

This is not a PR for Stanbic IBTC, but it needs to be said that Stanbic IBTC is the biggest manager of mutual funds in Nigeria as at 2023-2024 and that should tell u how secure your fund is due to the low risk associated with the fund. The minimum u can invest is N5,000 and there's no cap to how much u can invest. I know someone who sold a property and was paid around December. He invested N30m as at December and by end of February he has had over N1m in interest on the N30m invested.

The scary thing is that things don't actually get better in this country.

THIS present administration has got many things to worry about. Insecurity is one of them. The high cost of living is another. The worst appears to be hunger and extreme poverty, which could trigger unrest with debilitating consequences. The government should act fast to arrest this ugly situation.

Worried by the situation, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria recently warned that the economic reforms initiated by the Bola Tinubu administration have triggered sky-rocketing inflation and pushed more Nigerians into poverty.

The bishops merely reiterated what Nigerians already knew. In the 2022 Global Hunger Index, Nigeria was on the list of the 10 hunger-ravaged countries in the world.

In 2023, it was among the 22 countries classified as hunger hotspots in the world. The situation is worse in the North-East, where over four million people are on the danger list of food insecurity.

The World Bank Food Security Update Report, released in September 2024, noted that the number of people facing acute food shortage in Nigeria increased by 28 per cent in 2023. Also, 82 million Nigerians, or 64 per cent of the country’s population, may go hungry by 2030, per the UN.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (a UN agency) projects that over 31.1 million Nigerians faced the risk of acute food insecurity during the lean season between June and August 2025.

The Archbishop of Owerri and President of the CBCN, Lucious Ugorji, amplified that scenario in his speech at the opening session of the 2025 First Plenary Meeting of the conference in Abuja.

Quoting the World Bank, which projected that 129 million Nigerians lived below the poverty line, Ugorji added that the 2024 Global Report on Food Crisis listed Nigeria in second place globally in the acute food insecurity index.

Many Nigerians are frustrated, confused and sad. In August 2024, disturbing hunger protests rocked different parts of the country. Some citizens have developed some form of mental illness, while some who cannot bear it have committed suicide.

The Presidency is wont to defend the Federal Government policies despite criticism. On March 14, President Bola Tinubu met with the Catholic bishops in Abuja. He said the reforms were necessary to build a stronger country.

But reforms should have a human face. The sudden removal of the fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023, and the floating of the naira exchange rate devastated many individuals and companies.

Consequently, the naira has grossly depreciated. The prices of goods and services have quadrupled. Many Nigerians cannot feed. Many companies operate at a loss. Some multinationals have exited Nigeria. Factory closures and job losses ensued.

Rather than lead by example, the political leaders engage in luxury. Last year, the Presidency added another expensive aircraft worth $150 million to the Presidential Air Fleet. The new residence for the Vice-President gulped N21 billion.

Members of the National Assembly went home soon after their inauguration with sports utility vehicles worth N57.6 billion. The NASS leadership reportedly moves about in a convoy of luxury vehicles that cost the country over N7 billion. About N90 billion was spent to subsidise the 2024 Hajj. This is a shame.

The government must retrace its steps. Agriculture is a priority for many advanced countries because they do not joke about food security. South Africa embraced biotechnology and encouraged its farmers to use genetically engineered seeds, which has improved crop yields.

The Nigerian government should emulate this. It should encourage mechanised all-season farming and lower tariffs to aid the growth of the productive sector.

Tinubu should not just focus on raising revenue, he should also ensure favourable ease of doing business in the country.

Excessive borrowing should stop. The welfare of the people should be paramount in whatever the government does.

The guys story I told briefly was actually my very close friend from primary school. I will call him S. cos his name starts with S. He is a Moslem guy from a polygamous home but his mom was the first wife and was bounced for the newer wife. I don't know if you have encountered all those Moslem guys who learned Quran early, Very sharp with Math's but deficient in English. S was so good with Math's that in primary school that when we go Math's and English. S will score like 95 but his English will be like 60, while the rest of us will probably score 80-80

His mom knew me from primary school and my parents knew him to because prize winning day Math's is sure for him

By the time we got to SS1, He was already reading Engineering Maths by Stroud, Bunday textbook for Maths, he already took GCE and passed but 1 subject, By the time we were in SS2, he passed all the subjects so he never finished Secondary school because he was too good

So when I was in SS3, He already entered OAU Year 1. So when I was entering year 1, I deliberately wanted to stay in the same room so he can rub off him. His Year 1 GPA was about 4.4.

That year we stayed together was when one weed head guy we called "Elder" he was like 28yrs and an extra year student was also in our room that was who started teaching us how to play "Kashi" but my friend took extra interest in it and started the gambling life

In our room pre cell phone, my guy will just disappear for 2 weeks on those gambling trips from one school to another, get into trouble, no transport fare, enter lorry and just wandering around

By my year 3, I continued staying on campus and he moved to town where his life now took a very bad turn

One day his mom came to my house and told my parents that she found weed in commercial quantity in the traveling bag he was taking to school an they should tell me to stop being friends with her son before S corrupts me too

Many years later I tried to reach him and got info that he was still staying with his mom, got involved in an accident that broke his leg, I told him I will sponsor his MSc in Instrumentation from UI. I was paying the fees directly to the school (because I knew he would gamble with it). He finished his Masters and got a govt job.

2yrs ago, was when I heard from him that his mom died and I sent money to him for her burial

A wasted talent, I just realized that anything he wanted to do he always went in hard, whether gambling, weed smoking, Maths, Electronics

U were really invested in his success and u gave him a second chance which not many people in his situation often get.

I know this because my friend used to work with the company in the past and back then he does help people who win to collect their winnings from the head office. He told of a particular man who usually wins regularly; the man will win at least twice in a month and it is usually big money.

Because of that most people always want to play his game but by the time the man is on a straight losing streak of like 3 weeks people wey dey play his game go rest. Then he will win again and the people will start biting their fingers cussing themselves for not persevering till the man's game finally booms.

My friend said the seem highly educated and always buys that their chart of past results to study patterns and trends in order to forecast his games. Anytime my friend helps him to cash his money then, he gives him between 20k and 50k as "dash". This was around 2011/2012 o.

people commit suicide over money matter - and las las - it comes back to gambling or crypto - because those are the ones you really and truly cannot recover from.

That bukka hut founder, I'm not really sure his suicide was linked to having a bad debt. But for that FCMB manager, I know most bank managers always find themselves in such mess when they give out non-collaterized loans to customers against the bank's policies and such customers refuse to service the loan facility over time.

Those ones are their own problem not gambling addiction. They just don't like to do the right thing for reasons best known to them.
