What I don’t understand is how will a state government compel private owned businesses domiciled in the state to prioritize employing indigenes of that state .

I know the state governor can try that nonsense with civil service jobs that are of no consequence , but how will u compel private businesses that ought to be merit based to adopt such archaic and regressive approach to talent acquisition within their organization ? 🤷‍♂️

In my NYSC days my LGI does not live in Bauchi she was living in Kogi and only coming once a month or once in 2 months, 2 corpers started fighting and dragged themselves to State and threatening to drag themselves to Federal, Normally you will say what concerns LGI with 2 adults expressing their youthful exuberance and fighting, but in the process story go reach say she doesn't even live in the Bauchi village like her contract says she should and her peaceful career starts getting K-Leg

She had to come beg them to withdraw their cases and sue for peace

If I’m a line manager and an ET decides to be openly critical of the senior management , how does it concern me? How is it my responsibility to tell him to tone it down or take it down completely ? In fact , calling the ET and being unfortunate for me to have my voice recorded may be a ground for the guy to sue the management for harassment . And this will definitely embarrass the management more .

I don’t know the kind of organizations u people have in mind o, but in a normal organization that I know everyone is responsible for his or her actions and inactions .

If me that lives and work in Nigeria knows this , I believe u who live in the west knows better sef .

in all of this the ZI still has the power. it is everyday we run across incompetent government officials and even if we are in the right, we manage the situation. otherwise it becomes a long drawn out confrontation where we are the ultimate losers.

It is pretty obvious that the moment the lady made the video and revealed she is a corper, she was ready for whatever punishment they may want to mete out to her . So the whole talk about losing , I think she’s crossed that line since .

However , no NYSC or Tinubu government send that woman to pick her number from her file , call her and start threatening her telling her to “shut up her dirty mouth “ . at the very least, she was doing private practice while serving. something everyone turns a blind eye to - but now they are out for blood.

The ZI was actually foolish and lacked tact ; which of course is common with some people like her who work in the public sector that rarely go on professional trainings.

The ZI went out of line calling the corper on phone threatening her . If at all the corper had said or done anything that was against the NYSC bye laws ( which I doubt she did ), there are official ways of dealing with such issues .

How can u call her on phone and be threatening her over the weekend when u can as well wait till Monday to invite her officially by virtue of ur office ? I read a lot of people talking trash about NYSC being a paramilitary organization and all that hogwash , but even proper military institutions have ways of doing things . A military institution will not even have a commander call subordinate on phone and start threatening him instead of inviting him for questioning through proper channels .

The ZI’s overzealousness and unprofessionalism brought the whole heat on herself . I trust dem Sowore and other career activists will milk the situation wella till it runs dry. When matter cast , the same government fit sacrifice the ZI and her overzealous self .

Instead make dem go training for public sector , dem go share the training money amongst themselves 🤦‍♂️.

Omo! The fact that I could relate to this tweet from personal experience 😢

I nearly lost a once in a life time chance that has helped thus far due to unstable electricity wahala .

I don knack suit and tie , 100% mentally ready for the Teams interview before NEPA commot light 10 minutes to scheduled time . 🥵

Before u judge me as being unserious for trying to do an interview with generator , u should know that we Dey get light steady and the timing of our light is well known to everybody . I was damn sure the light would not even go off in the next 3 hours sef .

Back to my story , I had to off suit , readjust tie and rushed downstairs to drag generator . As generator start , I reach upstairs collect small fan generator just off without warning . It was then I know say wahala Dey . As I went back downstairs trying to find out what exactly was wrong with the gen, weyrey NEPA restored the light .

By the time I was settled I had lost like 15 minutes from the scheduled time . I was already disorganized and wanted to give up already . I just used the last optimism in me to join the meeting and was kept in limbo waiting in the lobby .

At some point sef I gave up but I sha texted the HR guy who sent the meeting link that I was waiting in the lobby o and then he replied that they are aware and once they are done with the current candidate they will bring me up . I was just lucky he’s a cool naija guy who somehow didn’t make an issue out of me joining late.

That day Nigeria nearly happened to me but I survived o

I'm not actually bothered about Fubara as a person, I'm rather concerned about the political implication of his ouster. Shebi we no even know the guy until Wike anointed him and installed him.

I'm saying Wike went on Camera to call the Ijaw people weak and minority tribe of no consequence despite the fact that almost half of the LGA's in the state are ethnic Ijaw. Now he follow his outburst up by installing his own kinsman in an Ijaw man's place just to pour spit for their face.

While there are NYSC members who are using 25k for Uber, and 20K for data, there are some broke people like me over 20yrs ago who are saving up the little to start life

Not everyone in Nigeria is living the life and many are taking the little minimum wage to start life

The bulk of Nigerians public plus private do not even earn up to 70K, so its a start up funds for many

If u don't make close to 70k in Nigeria today either through legit hustle, begging, borrowing or stealing u definitely can't survive in present day Nigeria.

It was always obvious the guy is part of the "controlled opposition" in the last election na. He never really left APC na, he was just a contingency plan to divide votes in case APC wants to lose bulk votes in some certain parts of the state.

Ultimately they didn't really need him sha cos Sanwoolu didn't really perform too poorly like that as governor. But I guess the whole ENDSARS thingy made him jittery

There is an opportunity cost and the NYSC is part of it too. The Govt is paying lecturers and the University on our behalf for those 4-5yrs of study. The difference between what you paid for your public school and a private school even with 1yr of minimum wage job cannot cover it

For me, I was able to earn minimum wage, I got some extra side income by teaching students and helping with UNICEF gigs, the money I made from the NYSC I used to buy GRE textbooks, kick start job search like buying browsing time, transport fares to VI for resume submissions, aptitude tests and interviews instead of going to meet my parents for that money again

We are talking about 2025 u are talking about over 20 years ago when Cyber cafe browsing was a thing .

U are so detached from reality of things in Nigeria in the present day but u will never agree.

Whatever hustle u think u did back then, the youth of today are doing more by selling goods services and their skills online yet they are groaning under the weight of serious financial pressure. You see them almost everywhere on whatsapp status , tiktok and instagram selling one thing or the other just to augment their income. The so called minimum wage of 70k would not even scratch the surface on their basic needs (not wants sef)

You are the one saying because public university is "cheaper" than private school, then public university graduates must subject themselves all sort of nonsense we go through during NYSC as "Thank You" to government.

All I did was show u that there is an opportunity cost to that so called "cheap" public university education. Saying they must go through NYSC hassle as payback despite the opportunity cost already highlighted above is an overkill.

The conducive learning environment , well motivated lecturers , state of the art learning aids and even exposure to professional exams at the earliest stage in a university system are part of the package the private university system sells for good value for money . Some of them even conduct job fairs for their final year students which is facilitated by their alumni doing well in their respective industries/sector .

If the government owned university is not selling this package , why should anybody be guilt tripped for not paying “high fees “ for a degree program ? 🤷‍♂️

I never like NYSC while I was doing it and I still don't like it till date.

When I see people carrying the whole thing for head I'm always at a loss as to what exactly the fuss is about. It is just a complete waste of a full year of one's life where the government makes the most of it by exploiting a young graduate for cheap labor sef.

Even when one could still manage to save from the 19,800 back then sef, I will never be caught doing all those epic foooling that guy was doing twerking for politicians wey no send am.

I remember where I served, they gave us one yeye recommendation letter at the end of our service year and some of my fellow corpers were gassed thinking it is a door opening passport in the labor market since it is from a federal government owned institution . Las Las, everybody eyes later clear when dem enter streets

No single person has questioned why NYSC has continued to pay 33k which is 37k below the official minimum wage in this country for the past 10 months.

Like ….. I’m annoyed in my spirit reading all of those crap . Personally I know quite a number of people who have reached out both online and offline for support due to the hard times being faced under this government in the last two years. How people who are genuinely not lazy have been incapacitated financially and have their income eroded due to the economic crisis being experienced day-in-day-out and yet u have people knocking the girl’s lifestyle and abandoning the message in her rant .

Even if u are serving in Sokoto or Yobe, how can 33k fend for a full grown adult in 2025?

For example a liter of kerosene is N1,058 as at March 2025 ( according to online sources ). Let’s say a corner will need at least 10 liters in a month to cook at least twice a day for 30 days, that means kerosene alone will gulp N10,580 out of N33,000.


Think about how much a paint of rice , beans , corn, garri, pepper ,tomatoes , onions, a tuber of yam, and small bag of semo will cost and how much that will take out of the remaining N22,420 of the allawee; then u will see how unfair it is to shush the lady who was bold enough to speak for every other youth that has been suffering and smiling .

We’ve not even talked about common basic things like the lady buying sanitary pads from her allawee sef 🤦‍♂️

Nigeria is a country that is designed not to work and the citizens are definitely working tirelessly to make sure it never works . (No pun intended )

From the foolish political slaves who will defend the government for almost anything to the educated & privileged few who would always find grounds to provide justifications for a failing government & its policies ; it’s just sickening 🤮

A government announced in May 2024 that it has increased minimum wage from 30k to 70k due to the high prices of things which followed its ill advised economic policies . Even though this increment does not scratch the surface in cushioning the effect of the economic crisis on the people’s disposable income, yet the people are willing to take the increment and move on with their lives hoping things will get better as promised by the APC government since they took power in 2015 even when the reality has shown things have always gotten worse under them .

The same government increased the 33k that was being paid NYSC members to 77k on paper .In the last 10 Months since this was agreed , the NYSC has paid their members 33k as against the newly announced 77k and there has been no uproar whatsoever . Life just continued 🤦‍♂️

Now someone who should've been a beneficiary of that extra 44k per month comes out to vent her frustrations about how life has been unfair , how the person who heads the government has been a terrible leader and suddenly every ediot out there starts attacking her , her source of income, her choice of lifestyle , her supposed political leaning , her side hustle , her morals , her choice of meal , etc .

How does a president make an announcement concerning increment in minimum wage across board and 10 months later a certain demography of the workforce still gets paid the old amount without any consequence? 🤷‍♂️ . I mean if u are so used to experiencing bad governance and singing the praise of the culprits , why must u expect every other person to follow suit ?

I don’t think this is about defending bad governance sef , it’s about people who find a way to always shush others who complain about the comatose state of things in this country .

I say it is not about defending bad governance because I don’t really think the man was defending bad governance going by the initial tweet he made February 12. He just seem like a man who is optimistic to a fault and thinks anybody talking about the inadequacies of the Ebonyi State government is a propagandist paid to discredit the government .

However , when he suffered an irreparable loss which is due to actions and inactions of persons who are employees of the same Ebonyi state government , he now understands that people can actually be victims of the state and can cry about it in the open without being paid opposition propagandist .

I pray his family finds the fortitude to bear the loss . No parent deserve to lose and bury his or her child .
