iamoyindamola: Hausa in school area, that's strange It's possible. For example there is a large community of Hausas in Idi Araba which plays host to Unilag's college of medicine(LUTH). There is a large community of Hausas in Okoko very close to LASU. God forbid if such tragedy happens in any of the two locations outsiders might be saying it is strange that Hausas are living so close to a school area, but it is what it is. If you notice, there are burnt bikes in the pictures/videos from the scene circulating online. |

Roland17: For Okpa mind, BRICS members will permanently break away from the West and form their own independent power bloc, which is Putin's intention but he just received an L. Below is a statement by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We must be careful to ensure that this organization does not acquire the image of one that is trying to replace global institutions,” Modi said at closed plenary session of the Brics leaders’ summit in Kazan, Russia on Wednesday. The group should work to reform institutions like the United Nations Security Council and multilateral lenders, he said.
Countries like India, Brazil, Ethiopia understand they absolutely cannot risk a fallout with the West, consequently, they are going to play both sides. Infact, they would not even hinge their foreign and economic policies on BRICS. There is a reason Nigeria has remained mute about this BRICS because Nigeria's foreign policy is very clear. Nigeria is aiming for one of the two soon to available permanent UN Security Council Seats. Thank for this. Okpa is a human repsesntatuon of the saying: "To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail" |

Theflint1: Nigeria is a hopeless case sha...rigging elections isn't political genius. We overate fools and surprised the country is the way it is.
Full grown adults legit thought a candidate that was an active player in the Yahoo-Yahoo of his time had anything but utter misery in store for them .
A lot of us would look down on Yahoo boys in our generation making a play for political appointments yet people were speaking English, imagining strategies and tying their personal destinies to the ambition of some ex-Yahoo boy. A lot of us had folks travel abroad in their Tinubu's era, yet none of them touched the crimes of drug peddling even remotely, but someone that was actively involved in that game is who people think has good in store for them.
You'd think they speak so highly of was anything more than good vote buying and result writing. Don't get urself worked up over nothing. It's Bianca's time to chop from the national cake at the federal level and that's just what it is; nothing more nothing less. The administration don favor her and her family. |

OkpaNsukkaisBae: If we follow that logic, we can as well say that Saudi Arabia want to Islamise Nigeria because we have Arabic language on the naira currency. BRICS did their home work, Hausa language is one of the largest spoken indigenous language in Nigeria/West Africa. There's no cause for alarm. I remember when we did GS in 100L in Unizik, you have students from the SE born in Jos, Abuja, Niger, Lagos failing Igbo language. Dem no fit dey speak their language. Below is the explanation on the "Arabic" inscription on the naira notes. It has nothing to do With Saudi Arabia The apex bank said, “The naira notes retained the inscriptions with Ajami since 1973 when the name of the Nigerian currency was changed to naira from pounds.
“The Ajami was inscribed on the country’s currency by the colonialists to aid those without Western education in certain parts of the country, who, back then, constituted a larger part of the populace.
“The Ajami is not a symbol or mark of Islam but an inscription to aid the populace uneducated in Western education in ease of trade.” It is actually foolishness on the part of the people behind the BRICS currency to choose one language in a multi ethnic country like Nigeria that is divided along several tribal/ethnic lines. From the reactions since yesterday one can see it is counterproductive.Several southerners will kick and their anger is justified considering the history of the country |

putin has run multiple coups in west africa
the north does not give a fk about democracy and if putin provides them with a path to power via coup they will jump at it more so when the average northerner is content with a hardscrabble existence as long as his brother is in power
i do not see it as an accident in any way
you can see bashir creaming his pants.
they may as well be one with niger nigeria is full of lebanese nigerians who likely align with iran and would provide support we also already have shittes who align with iran then you have the born to rule mentality civil service entitled to govt employment mentality and of course you can see the north is chafing at the bit for one nation under sharia
more so when they identify with russia because they are daft enough to think that the same russia that put down the muslim chechens, the same russia that backed the serbs who killed muslims in bosnia, same russia backing the genocide in sudan is on their side.
dull witted vacuous ediats
brics has russia, china and india who deal with muslims on the regular but they are looking at the west It will be interesting to see how Tinubu will navigate these murky waters. If word on the streets is right, it appears as tho it was Buhari that pushed the agenda of Nigeria partnering BRICS in the last days of his presidency. Considering our various loan obligations to the west and their institutions like IMF, World Bank etc; I can't but wonder how this so called partnership will augur well for us in the nearest future. |

He's saying it appears the Northerners are down with Russia/BRICS while Southerners are down the West/America. I guess the BRICS people didn't do their homework well enough to really know how divided as a people we are before writing Nigeria in Hausa language on their new currency . That move alone can jeopardize whatever gain they hope to achieve with Nigeria partnering them. |

Itsrm: Exactly. No be me Tinubu go send go village.
Besides, I no dey do my papa work. If anything happens, I have to fall back at something.
Now, if things are this bad already while I'm still working, imagine how it will be if I lose my job.
This means no matter how difficult, I have to spend carefully and plan for rainy days.
Besides, the so called contributory pension will be useless by the time you're eligible to receive it. If I have my way, I would have stopped it and collected all my money. Let me plan my pension myself.
My mums pension has just been paid since 2013 by the Ogun state government. It's slightly less than 5m.
Imagine what 5m would have done for her in 2013. This is one of the issues with the contributory scheme despite being better than the previous Pension system pre-2004. If by 2013 the employee stops contributing to the scheme due to retirement and he or she is due to receive the lump sum immediately after retirement; then there should be interest on the lump sum for as long as the PFA delays in payment. Like in ur mum's case, 2013 to 2024 is 11 good years of interest that should have accrued on the N5m lump sum. Unfortunately, that is not so. It only means the PFA or whoever warehoused the lump sum for 11 years has been doing all sorts with the money and not giving the retired employee any form of interest is just robbery. |

Theflint1: I get, I'm just saying their problem might even be bigger than whatever stiff taxation policies the FG is introducing. I'm sure the management of MTN are not unaware of the risks inherent in the entrant of disruptors like Starlink into their market. Most big multinationals like MTN have a fully functional Risk Management team that assess and manage all forms of risks faced by the company ranging from operational risks, liquidity risk, credit risk, market risk, reputational risk etc. In short they would've set in motion different risk management measures to manage such risk. What they they don't want is the FG springing a surprise on them with another round of taxation that will do their books dirty.(which the telecom tax will definitely do) |

Reno might be talented at propaganda and creating narratives, but when it comes down to it people would more often than not pick the less talented but more loyal person. People like Reno can never be committed to one employer, they are gun-for-hire type of contract staff. He didn't even wait for Atiku to lose at the presidential tribunal before he started riding on Tinubu's diick. I'm sure someone like Tinubu is wise enough to keep him at arm's length knowing fully well that Reno is never really loyal to anyone but his pocket and personal interest. Theflint1: Nigerian's are yet to tap into the full potential of satellite technologies like Starlink, by the time they do, and players from China flood the market, MTN and similar network companies would be well under water, tax breaks or not. This is not about tax breaks or no tax breaks; instead it is about the federal government not scoring another own goal unprovoked. Like the author opined, imposing the proposed 5% telecom tax on telecos will only add to the problems of telecom providers like MTN and the likes. Currently the telecos are groaning that every other business in Nigeria have increased the prices of their goods & services except telecom providers. NCC has placed a bar on telecos increasing their tariffs while they keep dealing increase in cost of production. Now if the 5% tax is added to their burden it will be practically almost impossible for them to continue to thrive under the current economic realities. For the first time since they started operations in Nigeria, MTN declared loss in 2023 without the proposed 5% telecoms tax. Imagine what will happen to their books if the 5% tax is introduced. When worse comes to worst, the investors will pull their funds and sell to whoever can perform magic to continue to thrive in the Nigerian hostile economy. People will certainly lose jobs and the company will lose customers to dem Starlink and the likes. The crazy part is that the starlink dem will not be paying Nigerian government a dime. |

A huge message: “The CEO of MTN Nigeria, Mr. Carl Toriola, has expressed concern regarding the latest proposal by the National Assembly to reintroduce a 5% excise tax on telecommunications and related services, such as gaming and betting, warning that such a move could critically damage the telecom sector in Nigeria, which is already grappling with significant financial challenges.”
Netflix took down IrokoTV and similar companies, but Netflix does not operate in Nigeria even though many Nigerians use it. Sure, they can help you collect sales tax or VAT, but that is not corporate tax. Where am I going? Nigeria must calibrate out additional taxes on the telecom providers because the asymmetric competition from satellite providers remains huge. If you weaken the GSM operators, you will make it easier for other competitors to take over, and pay you nothing.
Look at Europe, they come here and preach globalization, but they are increasing tariffs on Chinese EVs because China is beating their local companies. Even in the United States, if the US removes the tariffs and restrictions on Nio, BYD and broad Chinese EVs, Tesla will go bankrupt because China makes better and affordable EVs. So, Nigeria must develop thick skin and protect and protect because jobs and taxes are on the line. Yes, we must modulate on how we tax local players Wise words 🧠 https://www.tekedia.com/playing-with-fire-mtn-nigeria-ceo-warns-nigeria-on-plans-to-implement-5-telecom-excise-duty/ |
