Well, they mostly are not second hand products. They are actual scrap. The us is a hard consumer society and is driven by acquisition. Discarded goods have to be disposed. As an example, enterprises have a policy of replacing laptops every 4 years. Once the time has elapsed the 4 year old laptops are e waste to be disposed of. Get rid of the hard drive and dispose of the laptop. People who know their way will get these for free, maybe even be paid to dispose of them, and then they find their way to third world countries where they are marked up. This speaks to scrap items though, not recent model cars that still have market value.

This is actually what we think car dealers do. Personally, I think most of the cars we buy here as toks are vehicles that are involved in accident abroad which the insurance company makes total claim payment and then sell the salvage at scrap value after which the scrap finds its way down here.

However, with this news of cars being stolen in Canada & shipped down here, I am alarmed that one can actually be benefiting from a proceed of crime without knowing.

Where I used to live before , there was one gebon who is a neighbour. He is married here in naija with 3 kids but also allegedly has a white woman he's married to abroad (Some said he's in the UK while others claim he's just in Europe without the specific country being named).

This bros can travel now and spend as much as 6 months outside the country. when he returns to naija, he will go to the port and clear his cargo which will include at least 3-4 cars and other second hand used items ranging from rugs, lawn mower, cooking utensils, blenders, etc. He has a shop within the estate where he sells those items. Even the Right handed vehicles he imports, he sells them off within a month or two.

I don't know if it's so easy to just go abroad, scrap up a lot of econd hand products, send it down to naija and sell it off at a profit instantly. If someone like that is cuaght up in this car theft mess, I won't be surprised at all.

Bandits who abducted 16 residents of Gonin Gora area of Kaduna metropolis have demanded for a ransom of N40 trillion for their release.

John Yusuf, a community leader of the area, disclosed this in a telephone interview on Monday in Kaduna.

Yusuf said the bandits called and demanded N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans and 150 brand new motorcycles for the release of the victims.

The estate developers selling you the land could be in court and they would not tell you.

I am working with some dudes who are building a new office. They wanted to buy their present office but found issues during investigation.

There are even court cases that will not begin until several years after u must have been occupying the land. U see some of the lands the government acquired under military government and later sold to people; the descendants of the original families that owned the lands can institute action against government & win.

Some of those cases may last as much as 30-40 years till final judgment at Supreme court. There's no how any due diligence can prepare u for such.

Paranoia is required. Extra level of due diligence. Confirm if the land is involved in any past or present court case. The fact of the matter is the lessors or estate company just want your money.

We had a case where we started upgrade of a site, only to be stopped by the new owners. Somehow everyone but us knew about the court case (what happens when you gut your real estate unit)

And we had paid our lease less than a year ago to the previous owners who were fully aware of the case.

One time we leased a site only to find it was encumbered in a billion naira bank debt and the bank wanted to take over the property.

Some families who claimed to be initial owners of the land took Lagos state to court and won Lagos state government at the supreme court level. Now the occupants are under constant harassment by the family that won the case who have tried to enforce the supreme court ruling giving them powers to take possession of the land.
