Personally I believe if those houses were not built on canal/drainages , then the government should allow the occupiers to regularize their documents ; if possible pay additional money to the government instead of Pulling the buildings down to render the people homeless

Omor, this is a tough position to be in o, Lagos needs to do better in things like this, it's not enough to say so and so didn't do due diligence, especially when there's so many different agencies working at cross purposes.

That's the problem. If u wan just change ur windows from the old fashion to modern casement aluminium type and maybe renovate one or two dessigns in the house; no matter how remote the location is u will see at least one LASG agency will mark ur buidling asking u to stop work.

I am always conflicted on issues like this because in my expereince, 90% of the time, the developers simply bribe and bulldoze their way through during construction. someone erected a mansion in my close - start to finish. i doubt there was any approval. someone else conveyed a compound to hotel. local govt came and did marking, but those one las las are hungry hustlers. the real deal is if LASPAA becomes aware of the building. then this story will repeat.

in 2002 -2004, my then HOD did multiple upgrades without approvals. come 2015, we wanted to upgrade the same sites - we had to pay fines and belated payments.

and in my own experienec lag go serve you 3 - 4 notices . contravention, reminder, final notice, then demolition. their demolition ca be immediate, or it can be in 6 months. we had a site we had to abandon. it was 9 months after the notice they took the site down - some of us had even been thinking about moving back in.

In the past too I always believe most of the people caught up in this situation are those who built on lands they didn't do enough due diligence. But now with people claiming the have C of O and other legal documents to backup their legitimate ownership of the land I'm beginning to think the government and its agencies are complicit in all of this.

Just last month Abu Abel was lamenting how his land which he has title documents to is about to be grabbed by one of Sanwoolu's aide. He had to arrange boys to go protest in Alausa, I believe he has gone to court sef.

We should also not just dismiss some of these guys' claims particularly the one in which a Federal minister through the FHA can sell an estate land and once he leaves the post the original occupiers/owners and the new owners start slugging it out with each other

There was even one I saw his post claiming he has C of O and every necessary documents . He said they were later informed that FHA had since sold their estate to another developer under Fashola as minsiter for housing and they have been trying to regularize their papers afterwards to no avail. Now FHA has marked their buildings for demolition .
