The only thing that comes to my mind is that this Twitter user sef will grow old and some younger generation will see him as a wise elder ? 🤦‍♂️..... Just look at the sense he has as young adult.

One thing I'm certain, I know that Arteta must give us that big trophies with the way he's going. Every moves he and the team(ie scout, board and players) are taking Is gearing towards that. I don't need to see trophy first before I start praising the road we're taking to the trophies (or to get to the top). Like I said last season, I've never enjoyed arsenal as I'm enjoying now and the great part is that we aren't even at our peak yet.

What I he said was excatly the same thing I said at the end of last season , but the pain of losing the league to city made most people here to be shouting " Arteta bottled the league " up and down .

In one breath we don't rate Arteta as a genius football coach and in another breath we expect him to outsmart 19 other managers some of whom are actually world class managers .

From all indications Akpata is rich and he's not even hiding it. He just name dropped his two uncles Tayo and Olu Akpata who were NPN & UPN members respectively in the 70's.

The guy definitely doesn't have any qualms fighting dirty going by word on the street on how he got the NBA chair.

I don't know why anybody that will not benefit from his largesse would be defending him or trying to exonerate him from what he is not really denying with full chest

I had some friends and family that they were not taught Yoruba growing up, Their parents maybe thought it will affect their English, but as adults now they all speak it

There are people born abroad who dey scatter their native language anyhow. Not speaking your native tongue probably shows you don't care for it much or don't want to be associated with it until it became politically relevant.

It just feels odd you going to your people and speaking to them in another language. In many families its even considered rude to try speak to your aunties and uncles in English

At the end of the day, no matter how cosmopolitan and nationalistic we thump our chests to be, we are all tribal animals fiercely loyal to the interests of our ethnicities primarily. Especially in regional politics.

This is a wide generalization don't u think ? Not everybody places tribal interests first in all things.

As regards regional politics, the reason tribalism always rears its ugly head is because we actually don't practice democracy like we should in a plural state where u have different people with different interests. When u see a governor who would site most developmental projects in his own region of the state, it is only normal that the people of other tribe fight tooth and nail to have their own son too get the number 1 seat and favour them as well.

GRV is a solid guy, he's done well for himself professionally, been involved in Lagos state politics for almost a decade, he's studied the state sufficiently (you'd hear this when you listen to him speak), and been involved in Lagos state's politics gives him access to a fair deal of insider info...only recently he provided some privileged information on the blue/red line rail project of Lagos, so I don't think he's an outsider to governance in Lagos even though he's not been personally involved (for obvious reasons).

Also, GRV is someone I agree with on how Nigeria should be structured, have had an opportunity to listen to his ideas outside of him talking as a politician, and think he has his head in the right place.

As for Sanwo-Olu, he has a strong enough personal profile, but I didn't see him doing much in his second tenure...also his being APC is more than enough of a reason in itself for me not to vote for him. There were only two candidates that stood a realistic chance in Lagos for 2023, and if I'm to vote, I won't bother on candidates I know don't stand a chance.

GRV is actually an outsider in governance and public service . Aside from contesting and losing in previous elections , I really am not aware of anything he knows about public service .

Funny enough , it's now this second term Sanwoolu is working . The first 2-3 years of Sanwoolu's administration he didn't try at all. Towards the end of the 3rd to 4th year was when he started working .

See ehn, I wanted change of guard in Lagos from
APC to another party but GRV was just not that right person to effect such change of guard . GRV no be am at all. The only thing I was against was the tribalism card they played on him.

Now that said , are u saying Akpata has absolutely nothing to offer ?

Don't u think u supporting Asue of PDP is same as supporting Sanwoolu of APC in Lagos ; something u avoided doing .

Careerwise, he has the strongest profile of the three candidates, he's been involved with governance with the state on some level, and I've listened to him speak, he's smart and well-rounded plus I believe he has the most connections when it comes to being able to pull capital to the state.

But GRV was none of this, yet u supported him in Lagos.

1. GRV Careerwise could not be compared to other major aspirants in Lagos
2. GRV didn't have any strong profile aside his family name
3. GRV has never been involved in governance or public service at any level in Lagos
4. GRV doesn't really sound smart like that when u listen to him.
5. I doubt GRV has much connection that could've attracted more investment to Lagos. GRV is more of a son of an elite who did well in school and doing well for himself in his private business as an architect. I don't see him having much connections.

I'm just thinking, If u can support GRV why not Akpata?

Quite a fascinating history.

As much as I enjoyed every bit of the story ; I would've wished some of our veteran Yoruba journalists had taken it upon themselves to interview the Late Alaafin about this incident .

One would've learnt what happened to the relationship between Alaafin and Ashipa after this incident. U know Yoruba's would say " a kin to kootu de wa shore " i.e u don't comeback to be friends with someone who sued u to court . Like Ashipa is a chief in Oyo kingdom and somehow he instituted a legal action against the Alaafin and MKO who was going to be bestowed with a chief famcy title .

That said ; I think the story also confirms how big Afe Babalola really was. One senior lawyer once described the same scenario of how Afe Babalola would appear in court with so many junior lawyers pushing trolley of legal books behind him and when court session starts he will start quoting legal sources that even the judge has never heard of before . . He said some judges will borrow some of those books from Afe Babalola sef .

I've seen social media videos of kids born and bred in places like Canada, UK , US , etc who speak Yoruba , Igbo, Urhobo , Bini etc pretty well.

I don't know much about his upbringing , but I find it disturbing that a child born in Nigeria and had his first degree in a Nigerian University cannot speak his native language . Considering he grew up in the 70's /80's even makes it worse.

There are protectionist laws that favors citizens in different countries of the world. No be Nigeria e start.

My friend's elder brother who once lived in Qatar told us if u want to start a company in Qatar , their law requires that u have at least one citizens as shareholder/partner in that company. Like u will practically be sharing ur future profit with a Sheikh who has zero contribution to the profitability of ur company just by virtue of being a shareholder in a company u built from conception till profitability stage.
