In order to promote accountability and transparency in political finance in Nigeria, the political parties are expected to file three reports to the election management bodies, i.e. INEC. The first is the annual report. S. 86. (1) of the Act says “Every political party shall submit to the Commission a detailed annual statement of assets and liabilities and analysis of its sources of funds and other assets, together with statement of its expenditure including hard and soft copy of its list of members or in such a form as the Commission may require”

The second is election contribution report, S.90 (4) of the Act says “A political party sponsoring the election of a candidate shall, within three months after the announcement of the results of the election, file a report of the contributions made by individuals and entities to the Commission.” The third is the election expenses report. S.89 (3) of the Act says “Election expenses of a political party shall be submitted to the Commission in a separate audited return within six months after the election….”

No be write the law bro. The PDP will submit report of all contributions they received from members, private individuals and entities just like other political parties. They will also submit report of their election expenses. Na electoral act mandate them to do so

By law the presidential expenses of a campaign should not exceed 5bn

Maybe it is only businesses that are supposed to track their funding and spend to ensure they are not in contravention.

Your argument is that a political party should not have a proper framework for finance and a proper set of rules, but should be freestyled.

1. In January 2024 A chieftain of LP in an open letter requested that Obi gives an account of his campaign funds.

2. In February 2024 Obi releases records of his campaign spendings made available to him by his party's leadership. He didn't stop there, he called for his party's National Working committee to further. (The news was actually reported on February 15th, 2024)

3. The link u posted stated the maximum a candidate is allowed to spend on campaign is N5bn and Obi's campaign had cost N3.5bn .

Now anybody who read ur post earlier would've thought Atiku and Tinubu had released their respective campaign financial report, that they had appointed auditors to audit the records and that only Peter Obi is lagging behind on this.

U might no like to admit the fact , but definitely Peter Obi is a different stock from those other candidates u are trying so hard to equate him to.

As regards being incoherent and looking on helplessly; that is exactly what Tinubu is doing as far as our economy is concerned. This is evident in how things have fallen apart and we are closer to anarchy than we are to a renewed hope. 1) peter oi was not able to keep members of his party in check, bear in mind - most of the members of the party, like him were just passengers who jumped onto LP.

3) Peter obi has not been able to initiate consequences for everything that has happened so far.

All I see in this post is forced false equivalence.

For starters a political party is not one and same with a Limited Liability company. A company is owned by shareholders who may range from one to an infinite number and those shareholders have a firm grip on the affairs of the company; they decide on what happens or what does not happen as far as the affairs of the company is concerned.

Political parties comprise of a group of people who do not own the party. It's more like an association u can choose to belong to if it will serve ur political interest or dissociate urself from if u feel ur interests no longer align with the party's leadership.

Now u making it seem as if Obi a politician who joined Labour Party in May 2022 ahead of February 2023 election should go around dictating each and everything that happens in Labour party is u thinking like a Tinubu supporter. That's a Machiavellian way of doing things Tinubu is known for; that's not being democratic.

Peter Obi was asked by the public to provide records of his campaign finances and he brought the records made available to him by his party leadership. How has he qualified to be dragged for that?

I affirm it again that Peter Obi cut down the cost of governance in Anambra when he was the chief executive officer of the state by virtue of executive powers at his disposal.

Now I think we may have gotten to the point where I will request u provide for Tinubu and APC each and everything u have requested of Obi and LP as regards campaign funds, Party finances, and accountability. I believe APC will have this being a mega Party that has structure .

Maybe these people don't even know that NB, MTN, Nestle that u see declaring losses and reporting shareholders fund has been eroded completely; they subtly stated in their financial reports that " strong and aggressive cost management, and other efficiency measures" will be put in place going forward. Part of cost management will be the companies shedding weight and some staff losing their jobs.

All this happened during the election and Peter obi the disciplined man, the man who saves money, the man who demands receipts for petrol somehow missed that all the people around him were embezzling campaign funds. He somehow did not have a system in place to monitor the inflow and outflow of campaign funds.

The whole sordid mess shows it was a compete free for all where multiple players had uncontrolled access to campaign funds.

Even worse is that in the aftermath Peter obi did nothing while a whistle blower was hounded and eventually suspended. This is a month later and there is still no engagement of an auditor. And I doubt there will be. Whatever report released will be an indictment of the ethics of the movement and at the very least, the supervisory competence of Peter obi.

U expect him to have the party structure of a party he joined less than a year before the election? I thought it was APC people that sang it loud and clear that no matter how impeccable his records are he still needs a party as a vehicle to take him to the polls and that he got in Labour party.

Yes, some members of labour party have been confirmed to be insincere about their loyalty to Obi's presidential ambition but that has not in any way painted Obi as a potential Buhari like u are alluding here.

Buhari is Buhari. Buhari is a man who was drinking satchet milo and milk during campaign but lived large all through his 8 years as president. That bloke parked Presidential jet abroad for months accruing thousands of dollars daily as cost for parking while he was hibernating in a foreign hospital . He never cut cost of governance, kept appointing incompetent people in his government and allows his corrupt appointees to remain in power the moment they swear " Wallahi Talahi" .

I was sold-in on Obi cutting down on over bloated cost of governance and there are evidences he has done that before. Obi cut down the cost of governance in Anambra by reducing the budget of Governor’s Office from 30% of the total budget to four percent, thereby, saving more funds for education, health and other critical sectors. That is what Nigeria needs at this time not some damn Tinubu that will approve N1 billion for a 37 man committee to sit on Minimum wage that would not even better the lot of the masses considering inflation & high cost of living due to Tinubu's policies.

After reading all the posts about the Labour Party guys helping themselves to the party funds and some of them trying to use the clout they gained before & during the 2023 elections to make money for themselves in the upcoming Edo 2024 governorship election , one thing still stands true :

the warring factions as being a corrupt politician who contested to make money for himself and his associates.

Among other things that remains true is the fact that it was established by court records that Tinubu had $460k traced to narcotics trade seized by the US authorities ( which his supporters denied until Tinubu himself admitted it in court ) , Tinubu has appointed friends , families and associates nicknamed "technocrats " since he was sworn in and has made Nigeria worse than he met it; Tinubu has also implemented anti-people policies that have made his most ardent supporters set aside their pride to cry of hunger and hardship . Companies that have been profitable since their entrance into Nigeria decades ago now declare losses in less than 9 months of Tinubu's rule .

These are not hearsay or rumor monger if but facts that can be checked by anybody that is not a politician's slave but disguising as progressive .

This Edo election that me I'm seeing , the biggest winners when all is said and done will be lawyers irrespective of who is sworn in by INEC .

APC, PDP and LP have at least two factional candidates that will drag each other to court over their infra party politics . The cases will spill over till even after elections .

Whoever now wins at the polls and gets recognized as governor elect by INEC will still spend at least a year in court fighting cases from his own party (if they don't reconcile ) and the other two candidates .

First of all answer what I asked you and not try to change your goal post. In the message I quoted, you clearly said that Obi was advocating that what ever amount used to open the Form M should be what the importer is charged when the goods arrive. So if form M is raised at 1500 and CBN later increases it to 1600, the importer should still pay the 1500.... Now the counter argument is that if the CBN or custom reduces it to 1400, do you still agree that the importer should pay 1500 or the new 1400? That is the question/

And no, they did not reduce it because of Obi, rates were increased according to prevailing rates and have also been reduced close to the prevailing market rate.

A low import rate favors all importers including the names you called and the populace because of price reduction, but exporters will wish it goes higher, so that is not the argument at all.

If after almost 3 weeks u still don't understand the point Obi made ; I don't think I should be wasting my time trying to explain it over and over again.

My advise to u; share what Obi posted with a serious 100level or 200 level student in any Nigerian university and let him break it down for u.
