Shugavee: lol i know soyinka is great n all!! N i see no need for comparisons!! But achebe did liberate Africa when it came to africian literature !! His book things fall apart cannot be over emphasised!!! Soyinka is a great literatus not withstanding!! That book is overhyped. It didn't liberate Africa in anyway. Instead, it presented Africans as barbaric. Achebe talked about killing of twins, human sacrifices (Ikemefuna's murder) and then painted the whites as liberators. Things Fall Apart is just exactly the same note made by the whites. Achebe was not original. In another of his novels, No Longer At Ease, he portrayed the Africans as thoroughly corrupt and the whites (symbolized by Mr Greene) as incorruptible. Achebe simply painted the whites as good in his novels set in precolonial and colonial era. He doesn't come close to Soyinka in depth, originality and the sustained voice. Tell me how Things Fall Apart liberated Africans. The only thing it did was even expose us as savages and portrayed the whites like Mary Slessor for instance as our liberators from the worship of dead gods. Read Things Fall Apart, and you will see that Achebe revered the whites and even couldn't hide his disdain for the African religions. |

unohbethel: yes ur right..by the 1980's, those things u mentioned (black oppression, racism etc) were gradually coming to an end thats y in 1984, soyinka won the noble prize.. thats y many people especially the yorubas think that since achebe didnt win any nobel award, that he is not a great writer.wat they actually dont know is that achebe (as one of the pioneers of african literature) would av won the award long before soyinka came into the literary scene if not for the aforementioned cause above. You people have started displaying ignorance. Achebe did not win the Nobel Prize simply because he was not good enough for the prize. There are many writers who wrote about racism and still got a Nobel Prize, for example, the first and still the only black woman to win it, Toni Morrison wrote a lot about racism in America. Achebe was not even as traditional as Soyinka. Soyinka gave no damn about the whites. He chose to bear his Yoruba name right from the start and he never shied from telling people that his patron saint is Ogun, the Yoruba god of war. Soyinka also speaks against the destruction of shrines and he never wears suit. He received his Nobel Prize dressed in Ankara. If there is one writer who is deeply African, it is Soyinka. All these conspiracy theories that Achebe was denied because he liberated Africa is hogwash. He was even more European than Soyinka. |

Also, he should reserve Mikel and let Iwobi play centrally. We don't have time. |
Politics › Re: Should Nigerians Vote PDP Again? by BluntBoy(m): 2:40pm On Apr 12, 2018 |
plaetton: Dear adult , this is no time to play hide and seek. Elections, in case you haven't noticed, are usually contested by 2 LEADING parties. And for change, in this particular case, an emergency that has the greatest implications for the future of every living soul in Nigeria, this is not the time to play and experiment with fringe political parties. And where have all these other parties been ? What national voter infrastructure have these so-called other parties built since 1999? This is the reason that politicians take the average voters for fools. At the most critical juncture, you start confusing yourself.
If we want to vote out the locust government of APC, we must unequivocally vote PDP. Any votes wasted for any other Fringe political party or group is an indirect vote for Buhari. Nigerians must leave no single stone unturned in voting out the Dinosaurs in ASO Rock. Simple. Buhari is far better than anything PDP can present. The recession had been predicted as way back as 2014 when Goodluck was warned to save and fight corruption or suffer a recession. I am going to look for the article. I think it was in the Economist. Two other experts in the field of economics, Charles Soludo and Sanusi (both former CBN governors) prior to the 2015 election also predicted the recession and said it didn't matter whether was Jonathan or Buhari that won. Jonathan had messed up the economy. Only fools believe that the recession just happened like that. The fact is recession build up overtime and the signs had been there during Goodluck's years of mismanagement. Let us be factual, which Nigerian past president would have been able to survive a recession and still grow the foreign reserve? How many of our leaders can save? Jonathan couldn't save in the time of plenty, how would he have survived a recession |

Kanu is not dead. He ran away to Ghana the same way his cowardly mentor, Ojukwu, ran away to Ivory Coast dressed as a woman.
I knew it all the time that Kanu was running his mouth. I knew he would run away as soon as Baba had his time.
Kanu is not dead. He is just a coward who wanted fame for himself. |

Very stupid decision, a classic example of what our police force represents. Stupid and unprofessional. You want to scare the mob away while awaiting backup and the only thing you could think to do was shoot at the tarred road. Whatever happened to shooting into the air Where do they train these policemen for heaven's sake And yet, they want the FG to provide them weapons. The little they have, they can't even use them judiciously without harming civilians. Reminds me of news that made FP last year. A policeman was chasing two purse snatchers that were getting away on a bike and he was shooting squarely at them. What nonsense. What if bullets hit innocent civilians |

swiz123: Ronaldo disgraced me even more.
After an insipid performance from him, he was served a penalty and when he scored, he chose to take off his shirt.
I have never seen a player who appreciated mediocrity that way.
I don't think Messi would take off his shirt If he scored from a controversial penalty. Well, I guess that action of his(ronaldo) showed he has something in common with Nigerians, and that's appreciating and endorsing mediocrity. It is not that he is celebrating mediocrity. Ronaldo is just someone who is obsessed over records. As long as he is concerned, he has another goal to his name. He is obsessed with personal glory hence the display of selfishness. In summary, he is not celebrating mediocrity, he is just celebrating himself and his enviable records. |

Ladyhippolyta88: I need to get going. Hippolyta is busy today. I won't drop feminism for anything I don't care about your view. Just look for a non feminist that would be submissive and respect, obey your commandments without challenging your decisions. If you marry hippolyta it won't work that way. Alright. I will be busy too. But when I said I would love you, I would take you as my queen and it won't be a master-servant relationship. I am not that type of a man. Later, my Queen |

I have personal convictions dear and feminism is a part of it sorry. I want an egalitarian relationship and not the other way around and you seem to be a member of the other way around. 7 kids That would be too much. I like kids but that is going to be too much stress on your body. Let us just have two (a boy and a girl) and adopt at least 2 so we can give homeless kids a good and stable home and a wonderful future. |
