EducationRe: Should Part-Time Study Be Abolished? by boay(op): 3:52pm On Nov 08, 2013
If our full time graduates are called 'half-baked graduates'. Then what will the part-time graduates be called. Inasmuch as there are many people who are GENUINELY benefitting from the program we must not be slow to look sternly if the program is really achieving its purpose.

Part time is for the working class, how many part time students are working class?
It may be an herculean task for the government to critically assess the program because of the revenue from it. But we must call a spade a spade and not a shovel

Why do you think part time student pay more school fees?

I have gone through the thread, but I am very surprised that only few managed to be objective. This is an issue that demand a serious attention and only few who are objective and critical enough can see the reasonableness of the topic. I am very surprised that people who dont know me assumed that I am a full time student for raising a topic like this. Someone even said I am from ministry of education. Anyway, I remain objective about the topic

Though the program is beneficial to some and many other countries are also doing it, I believe no country is exactly like Nigeria. How many part time students are working class?

The same program maybe very beneficial in other countries but I believe we need to look critically if the program is achieving it purpose in our own country. Thanks for your comments

nerodenero: It all depends on the dimension you are looking at it from:
1.It generate more revenues for the University.
2. Most graduates from Part-time programmes to an extent do not really know the rudiment of the course of study owing to short time required for such programmes.
3. The high demand for tertiary education led to the introduction of part-time programmes and this isn't a bad idea.
4. Most students that enroll for such programmes are not necessarily the working class. It affords people the opportunity to school and work at the same time.
There are two sides to the coin. I cant say yes and at the same time, I cant say no. The best thing is that more funds should be committed to the Educational sector such that both infrastructural and manpower would be made available to absolve the ever-demanding masses seeking tertiary education.
Good points. Thanks. But assuming you are the minister of education, can you consider abolishing it to increase the standard of education?
EducationRe: Should Part-Time Study Be Abolished? by boay(op): 1:02pm On Nov 08, 2013
