Family › Re: Extortion In The Name Of Aso Ebi by bobchigar(m): 11:29pm On Sep 11, 2019 |
What is this thing about clothing for ceremonies. I don't buy aso ebi, in fact I hate it. I will wear whatever dress I have to attend your function. But there come instances when you just have to buy. My brother in-law got married late last year and I had to join them in buying their aso ebi only to discover that the dress they sold for 7.5k is just 3k in the market and the dress faded on first wash. I told my wife that she forced me to buy it. That one is gone. Now, they are planning a funeral programme again and my wife is telling me I must buy their clothing material again. The dress, mine and hers will cost 29k, I got small sample of the material (for male and female), gave it to my textile dealer friend and she told me four trouser length of the male material will cost 6k, while the one for women (wrapper and head tie inclusive) will cost 13k making a total of 19k. I told my wife I'm not buying but she has been on my neck since two days now. How can someone be extorting me just because they wanted to do funeral? What kind of family thing is this? I'll cough out 29k in this Baba's economy and still give financial assistance to the woman whose father died o. Why are our people like this? Still standing my ground while my wife is still insisting I must pay even till now. The funeral comes up first weekend in October.
Op, it is actually one way of assisting one another financially. |

I don't know why we Christians refuse Ruga settlements in the south in order to restore peace. We complain about the destruction of our farms by herdsmen and alleged killings yet we reject Ruga settlements meant to isolate Fulani herdsmen nationwide. What do we Christians really want? Don't we want peace in this country Thank you. You have spoken my mind except that I don't relate it to Christian alone but all those that are opposing establishment of Ruga. |

In fact, despite the barrier, some Christians still deny their faith and cross the barrier just to cause trouble. |

Iblad0994: Anything wrong in accepting Christianity or Islam if you think that is the way for you ?
The Yorubas are people with brain and liberal enough to decide what’s best for them. The tribe with a gentle culture that respects all religion and practice them based on their conviction.
The other Nigerian tribes take religion to the extreme and can even kill or denigrate their kinsmen for sharing a different faith. I’m talking about the East and the North.
The world is changing, people should not be dogmatic and we need to respect people choices. I’m proud to be Yoruba and proud to decide the religion I want, most especially live in peace with my neighbors irrespective of their religious affiliation.

Please note that all the members here were elected, if one religion dominate the house through election from their various constituency, are saying that other religion must also present in the house before things can go on right? |

itcolony: Let's be realistic & objective. No book is more influential than the Quran. With over a billion Muslims around the world, they stick to it more than Christians stick to bible. They even memorize it completely... No religion venerates his book as much as Muslims do to Quran Your simple comment addresses the Op's ignorance or deliberate bias. This is enough for an open minded person. Does the Op know the meaning of influential? |
