Nawa ooo. I don't know what the op intended to achieve by stating the ethnics of the concerned people. Even the the heading is misleading. The conflict between two individuals is now painted with ethnicity. We need to mind the kind of information we are spreading. Thank you for the advises that you gave me regarding the subject.

Please recall that I informed you earlier that I received credit alert of about ₦200,000 in bank account but the transaction was certainly not mine because I didn’t do transaction to have expected such money especially at that time.

Meanwhile, like I promised to update you the outcome of my efforts to achieve my task of returning the money wrongly transfer to my bank account to the true owner. With the help of advises and information given to me by the NairaLanders, these are actions that I have taken so far though it sad that the ultimate objective has not been achieved but there is progress:

1. I drafted email to the bank and copied CBN to lodged my complain as advised. (The mail is attached here). Based on the response I received, I’m hopeful that the email is addressed to the appropriate channels.

2. The bank and CBN responses to my email (the bank’s response is attached). The bank’s requests was somehow frustrating especially some of the contents in the indemnity form that I was required to sign before my request could be processed.

3. Despite my tight time schedule and some of the contents of the indemnity form that I am not comfortable with, I had to reluctantly signed the form so that it will not be an excuse for not processing my request. All the documents requested from me were scanned and emailed to the bank and CBN was copied in the mail
.
4. The bank acknowledged the receipt of the email and promised to get back to me but I am yet to receive the feedback of the outcome of their findings as at this moment. It is almost two months that I have fulfilled all the documents required from me.

Sequel to my email to the bank, I observed that the amount of transaction in question has been made to only appear in my ledger balance. The implication of this is that I can not withdraw more than my actual savings and I’m fine with that.

I hope to send a reminder e-mail to the bank next week which will mark eight weeks that I have instructed to them to do the investigation and return the money to the right owner.

Useful advice to achieve the objective of locating and returning the money to the right owner is welcomed.

In 2019 I mistakenly transferred the sum of 215000 to one Amos Ojomo in First bank. I tried to get the money back but never did.
I know you will save a life by returning the money

I also observed your point. When I want to send the mail, I will copy CBN and let the person attending to it to know that CBN is aware so that he/she will handle it with care so that he/she will not be implicated.

1. Request for your own account statement from your bank if you cannot access it fully online.

2. Spot the particular transaction and flaggers (date, ATM code, if possible which type of card eg. Visa/MasterCard etc and the amount and time of transaction).

3. With the details handy, do an email to your bank indicating your willingness to refund erroneous credit transfer. In that mail, blind copy (Bcc) cpd@cbn.gov.ng
This should make whoever attends to the issue sit up.

4. Once the details of the cash owner is ascertained, your bank will contact you.

You are putting yourself in a dangerous position by keeping the money without any form of reporting. if the money was a proceed of crime, and it's traced to your account during investigation, you will held liable and you wont be justified for not touching the money.

My advise: Do an official e-mail to the customer care of your bank. Ask them to do their investigation and return the money to the sender's account, as you do not know him, neither are you expecting any inflow to your account. Also ask them to acknowledge your e-mail. By so doing, you have reported officially to the bank. Again, it will be difficult for any bank staff to divert the funds as the customer care will contact their domestic/payment support to do the needful. I see issue like these every now and then.

Bros police started tracing where the money was sent to your move might be useless then and you might be arrested.

That's why I brought this to the public so that I can have a pool of suggestion to be able to choose action that will enable me to achieve my objective of returning the money to the owner. This your suggestion serve as a protection on my side. By God's grace any action that I eventually taken will be communicated here.

I experienced the same thing last year, I got an alert of #20k on my access bank. I was not expecting money from anyone. So I waited for two weeks no calls nor message from anyone regarding the money. I tried to trace it from my banking app, it only showed me the transfer was done through an ATM. I spoke with my banker friend, he said " my bank will finally contact me regarding the wrong transfer to my account " till today , over a year, my bank is yet to contact me. The the money is still lying in my account waiting the day, the owner calls. But anyday, the real owner comes for it ,confirmed by the bank, I will give it back willingly.

That was how 12k was mistakenly and wrongly transfered into my account with one super market account name.

I immediately transfered all my personal money in that account to my other account leaving only the 12k in the account. Within 2 months, there was a reversal immediately. My bank didn't contact me for any approval. The 12k was reversed back to the same super market account.

Bro try and visit your bank , drop a complain. The owner will be contacted and the money will be reversed.

You can request for bank statement and it will show you the account details of the sender or narrate the issue to your banker they will profer solutions to it

Bro. Contract your bank. No bank official will conspire as the money will be reversed to where is coming from.. It could be that the owner has gone to the bank and complain and somebody in the bank is not doing his or her job. Just do your own. I know you have a good heart.

Allow the money continue to rest in your account, when doing account reconciliation if found they will trace it and if found in your account definitely a call will be put actross to you on how to refund it or perhaps the rightful creditor will beg you for the refund through the account Officer. Still allow the cash in your account for now until demand beckons for it.

I pray for securing good job to earn fat pay, to secure highly profitable contacts, triumph on my legitimate business etc. but never prayed or will never pray for Just receiving credit alerts. Please visit your Bank and explain to them , they can trace the bank and account where the money came from. You need to give your bank approval to refund the money.

I forgot to add, the money is not unmerited favour. Anything that one got which the true owners can be located or traceable for return is not unmerited favour.

It is just like you helped some one picked up his/ her lost phone. The true owner of the phone can be located. If one decided to keep it for ones use, it amount to theft.

I feel like seeking your advise about how I can accelerate the process of returning the money that I guess was wrongly transferred to my personal bank account.

About two months ago, I received credit alert of about ₦200k in one of my savings accounts. Based on the narration of the credit alert, it shows that It was done through ATM and I did not do any transaction to have been expecting such money.
I have been expecting to get alert for reversal of the transaction but the money is still sitting in my bank account.

I have also been expecting my banker to have contacted me for approval to reverse the transaction but I have not been contacted by my banker.

I was considering the option of complaining to my banker to trace the owner from their ends but some people discouraged me from doing so; stating that those bankers may conspire with someone and falsely claim the money.

I have been thinking of possibilities of tracing the owner by myself but credit alert did not state the details of the account from which the money was transferred to my bank account.

I am feeling concerned for the person who did the transfer because his fund has been tied down.

A banker told me that the owner must have complained to his/her bank but banks ways of attending to the customers complain is slow but definitely they will contact me for reversal.

Do I keep my fingers crossed and be expecting my banker to contact me for reversal approval?
or
Complain to my banker to help me locate the owner of the transaction?

Or any other suggestions will be welcome from you but my objective is to hasten process of returning the money to the true owner.
