Christian129: Okay, journey of 6 months officially came to an end today at around 7am. God bless the VO that approved my visa. i really dunno where to start from, but anytime i remember how the journey started with Lagosismyhome paying my application fee without collecting a dime, i'm always jolted back to sobriety. I'd drop transcript shortly. Special shoutout to my virtual family; God's own scholars, especially Prof Charles, Adebimpe (aka Wikipedia), Egbon Kenny of Illinois, and Femi - i swear if this guy na VO, nobody go dey receive visa . i also appreciate Pastor Walspring, Texrem, Sureboy ,Francis, Bobority ... the list is endless mehn. Goodluck to those going for their interview this week and the subsequent ones. I love this family mehn. God bless you all. Congrats bro! i am so happy for u |

seeker88: Greetings to everyone in the house. Please, I'd appreciate any piece of advice from the gurus here with regards to my admission and chances for funding for Fall 2017.
My undergraduate major was Petroleum Engineering and I don't really want to further in that area 'cos it's quite streamlined and also considering the current situation in d upstream sector of d oil n gas industry, I don't think I'd be wise to do Masters in d same field.
I am considering switching to Mechanical Engineering (or something close) which I think has a better job prospects over there in the US.....kindly correct me if I'm wrong. The problem now is that most schools i checked in d US require UG degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering as a prerequisite for Masters/PhD in Mechanical Engineering....which means taking some UG course before d masters program n this requires more money.
Please can anyone kindly help with schools where I can be admitted in Mechanical Engineering with full or partial funding for Fall 2017. Funding of any form (GA, TA, RA, etc) is a priority, and the schools ranking for now doesn't matter to me.
Please, can someone also suggest other STEM courses which I can easily switch to in order to secure funding and for better job prospects after graduation? Ur assistance will be highly appreciated. I want to start applying immediately to meet up with most schools priority deadlines...
Below is a summary of my profile: UG Degree: Petroleum Engineering CGPA: 4.23/5.00 (3.57/4.00 after WES conversion) GRE : 305 (154Q, 152V, AW 3.5) TOEFL: About to write Years of Work Experience: 3+
Don't know how to proceed now.....Please make una help me.... Hi, just a few schools I know of... but I don't know any other STEM course u can go for. I guess that should be based on what ure interested in.. University of New Mexico Texas A & M University College Station University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Michigan Technological University New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology University of Maryland Baltimore All the best! |

lovelani: thanks Sis...
please I would still like to know if going for a second Bsc. is gonna raise a red flag.
thanks. Hi, sorry i am just seeing this. I wont lie to you. It is a red flag but we have seen people on here who did it and it was successful. Another option people go for is apply for a masters degree and then transfer to the school where you applied for the Bachelors degree (if that is actually what you want to do) when you get to the USA. But be sure to make your findings well. All the best |

lovelani: hello guys, I'm glad to be here finally, after the long wait, reading through part 1 through to this part. I've this questions bothering me:
I have a Bsc in comp science , applied to a school in Michigan, but was surprised when the I20 letter arrived , I saw liberal Arts and Sciences, I became furious and wrote the school international student affairs officers, and he replied that, that's the course they give at start, that when I resumed at the school, then I will be given my main major. P.S: the course is Bsc. now my questions and concerns : will it be a red flag that I'm going for another Bsc degree and not same discipline as my former Bsc.? I've read about the liberal arts and Sciences online extensively and found out its even a lovely degree, as it's an Interdisciplinary course. please help a brother as I hope to book an appointment soon. Hi, i stand to be corrected on this. This also happened to me. Though mine was a Masters degree, i am not too sure the same applies to Bachelors degree. I applied for MSc Biomedical Engineering and it appeared as Material Science on my I-20. After mailing the department, i was told that Biomedical Engineering is categorized under Material science under SEVIS and that i should explain to the VO if i was asked. I was a bit worried about this but on my interview day, when i was asked what my plan was in the USA, i said i was going for my masters in BME to do so, so and so.... and no further question was asked. So its either the VOs are familiar with stuffs like that or she just did not see it. I do not think this would be a problem. Any other person that has gone through something similar might have something else to say. All the best! |

Ekofisk: Hello. Good to know you arrived NM safely. I'll be flying Emirates early August and I'll have a 22 hours layover in Dubai. I wanna know if I have to check out my luggage at Dubai. I'd prefer leaving it with the airline. How did it play out for you? Thanks alot bro!... Well, mine was an 8 hour lay over... I didn't check out my luggage in Dubai... it was moved into the connecting flight to Chicago by Emirates... to be double sure, i asked at MMIA and i was given a baggage claim ticket in MMIA for chicago n not Dubai, I asked at d Emirates help desk in Dubai again to be sure make person no go enter one chance I even waited at d baggage claim in Dubai for some minutes to see if my stuff go show face but it didn't (I guess Dis wasn't necessary).. once u get to the MMIA, u cld ask to be sure or u call emirates help desk to confirm but I think it's Deir responsibility to transfer ur luggage.... all d best bro! |

There is no amount you have that's enough as a student but before we continue, give details about the percentage covered by this 1/2 GA and is it likely that they increase the GA by next semester?
