rodgers: George_D,The cost will almost return you to your village if you had one...LOL, in this business of renewable energy, you are better counting what you stand to gain, not what you need to spend. |
Did I hear you guys say you are praying for the super eagles? If you prayer warriors are God, who will you grant success, some lazy fat players or the hard working ones? Maybe the team should branch on their way to SA to the camp and knee for prayers. |
The more voices of reason we get the better for all of us, we need men of honour, not only pastors or Imams, who have not soiled their cloaks with the portion of the king's food to come out and call our leaders to order. Even as deadly as Abacha was, there were still some people who stood to his face and told him the truth no minding their lives. |
BUTONEDAY: Jump in Jump out!!!Oga Butoneday, Very nice to see you around, it is a sign that this year will be good. Cheers! |
One thing is most certain in his case, the governor cannot speak otherwise, he would have wished our super eagles success in AFCON and he cannot sit, so we couldn't be fed with something like the suntai's photos. |
Good that the ref. gave a red, a nice way of explaining the defeat. |
2Legit2Qui: OK. The GO should have called SR even when it was clear the SR came without invitation. Did they call to say sorry for their barging into an event uninvited? SR is talking about illegality, what about their own illegality? Coming into an event without adequate accreditation. Be objective. You shouldn't have picked only a part of my view and talk about objectivity. At the point that the church opened her gates to them, they became accredited to enter into their church, the church could have turned them back because they had no prior information that they will be coming. For opening their gates to SR, they are liable. I did not say that the GO should have called SR, I said such prettiness shouldn't even have gotten to their GO if the church public relations department was up and doing. This is a case that should have been closed on the day it happened, not one that the church will be giving a press statement several days after. |
The biggest problem Nigeria has is religion, what if SR had reported that this happen in a mosque, I am sure the responses of people would have been different but since it is a church we must explain it away. Now to the issue, there are several overzealous church workers who many times take laws into their hands thinking they are working for God. Have you ever seen a phone thief been handled by this holy army? They are only a few inches away from the Aluu people. I think the church could have done a better damage control instead of what I read in their statement above. It is obvious from the press release that the SR team was harassed although the incident might have been grossly exaggerated by the SR team. For me, the first mistake the security team of the church made was granting the SR team entrance into their premises without a clear understanding of what SR will be doing and where they will be going. Secondly, it was quite rude for the church's team to have forwarded the GO's number for SR to call. If the church wanted an amicable resolution, all they should have done was to call SR, and not the other way round. They are there to protect the image of their church and leaders not cheaply exposing them to every petty issue. They have by their action even dragged the person of their GO in the mid. |
bodejohn, your battery bank goes now goes quickly into absorption because your charge controller is now making full use of total power output from your panels therefore pushing out more charging current into your batteries. for optimal use of your panels always you should consider sizing your battery bank to at least 3 days of autonomy. that way it will have more redundant capacity whereby it is able to accept more charge irrespective of daily usage. with your present battery size, you will only be able to enjoy more output from your panels when you are at home whereby you're using your inverter simultaneously while batteries are charging. when your batteries are full, the charge controller goes into absorption and ultimately to float. any excess power from your panels remain unused from that point onwards unless there is a power demand from your house load.
Thanks, I also discovered this although not before I bought two more solar panels thinking that was the issue. I hope I can get two more batteries from my supplier at the end of the month. |
ItsModella: Na now we go see them...where were they when he was sick and was looking for funds for his treatment? mschew!!!Most of our celebrities live a borrowed life. How many of them can boast of a million in their accounts? |
Everybody should know that power generation capacity is different from actual power generated. You can have capacity to generate 1 million MW and only utilize half or a quarter of your capacity. More like the story of our refineries having capacity to refining 60% of what is consumed daily. We all know the usual story of the refineries. Also, the capacity actually generated can be greatly reduced or impacted by the transmission and distribution system. While the government is investing their energies in generation, much more or same effort should be invested in the transmission and distribution lines. A good example is my community with about 300 houses and without a single transformer, even if 20,000MW is generated, i will still only get about 90 Volts from the over 1km length of cable that gives me power from the nearest transformer. |
...suppose we would be playing this Cape Verde in the group stage of AFCON, I am sure some Nigerians will be betting on the three points, the eagles are obviously struggling to keep up. |
Arsenate: I hate Keshi's cap...I suppose it was my black and white cupboard tv...hehehe! |
For once I want to agree with Obj's position. Looking critically at the BH problem, I see a criminal side and an injustice side. It is criminal for any body to carry arms against his or her country and fellow citizens but we have also seen and heard of the many atrocities that our military men commit with the cover of fighting terrorism. Part of the demands of BH has been compensation for crimes against humanity to women and children in the north by the JTF, even though it might not be their main intention, it is still a fair point. So Obj is right, use the stick on the criminal BH arm and find ways of compensating those who have been wrongfully killed or maimed by the security operates. |
bodejohn, it is better to connect your panels in three to take full advantage of its mppt functionality. if you install them any other way, your charge controller works just like any plain type controller with no boost.
Roger that. One more issue came up after connecting 3 of the panels in series, the Vmp from the panels is now 60V but the battery quickly runs into absorption, where less of power is required from the sun. Yesterday i got only 23Ah from the panels but battery only got charged to 26.1V. It is beginning to look like i will be needing another pair of batteries pretty soon, otherwise i will only enjoy more power from the sun when i am at home during the day. What do you suggest is the ration between the battery bank size and solar panels? |
Mrs. Benard Egwuatu? I hope the popular satellite item shop owner has not list his livelihood. |
Oga George, I noticed that my charge controller was only able to push about 25Ah charge to my battery bank yesterday when i was not at home with the Inverter switched off, the battery voltage was just 26.1V indicating that it was not fully chargered. I regularly got about 52 to 54Ah since installation when i was home and used the inverter. I suspect that the circuit voltage of my panels that is about 40V is responsible, because the PV voltage sometimes drops below 30V, what do you think? I plan to connect 3 panels in series as you once suggested. |
jayboskie7: bodejohn, here is my phone number 08060615464.flash mi i will call u bak okI sent you a text message yesterday, did you receive it? |

It has become a passion for some folks to just attribute honor to some days. Is Jan 2, 2012 to Jan 2, 2013 not one year? Why are ther no cross over or watch night services for it? Nothing special in all these dates that we keep talking about, I will call a day special if it runs for more than 24hours. |
pdozie: @BodeJohn,Yes, my panels are on the roof now, will post the picture later, when the sun is down. I got my charge controller from China, no brand name, just an inner believe that it will work and it is working... |
I think these postcodes have been available for some time, good work by the people at NIPOST. But a watchout for people who will want to use this for addresses on parcels to be delivered by DHL, you could get charged more, just stick to the 234xx, speaking from experience. |
My CyberPower of 3KVA came with default charging current of 20A. I have reduced it 10A, to ease load on my 5KVA Gen (if PHCN prove sturborn for more than 2 days blackout) With High Charging current, it may charge faster but also deplete faster. I love the charging at 10A, as I look to celebrate 2yrs of usage by Feburay ending.
Thanks for making this point, I will like to also quickly point out that charging current is not just low or high based on it's number maybe 10A or 20A but on the capacity of the battery expressed in Ah. I can still remember when I was building my first battery charging circuits, there are different charging methods, constant current, constant voltage with a rule that the charging current should not exceed 0.1C, where C is the capacity of the battery. With microprocessors becoming widely used, charging of batteries too have been revolutionised. Standard battery chargers, the type that I expect to be in cyberpower, now comes with a three or four stage charging...bulk, absorption and float. During bulk charging, as much as possible current is pushed to the battery till it reaches about 80% of it's full charge. At this point, the battery is charged at a constant current that is less than the bulk charging current till it is fully charged and kept at constant voltage at float charging. To avoid all these technicalities, just get a good inverter or charger and everything will be done without you worrying about how the charging is done. |
bing: @bodejohn thanks for your response... Charging current is 10a... Can i start using without fully charged?I think you should be able to use it without it being fully charged, however there are some watchouts.... DO not use it if the voltage is less than 12.2V, this is to ensure the DOD of the battery does go below 30 - 40%. if you can wait for it to fully charge up, i advise you do. @ all, i am reading up on how DOD of batteries ensure a longer use life, will hit the forum when i have sufficient links and information. |
bing: @all just bought a 200a zenith battery... According to the manual was ask to charge for 8hours b4 using with a 1kva cyberpower inverter for close to 9 hours now... Battery still not fully charge..... Can i start using it for the first time without fully charged?Do you know the charging current made available to your battery by the cyberpower inverter? The time it will take for the battery to be fully charged depends largely on the amount of charging current and some other factors like temperature. it might take longer than necessary to charge the battery if the charging current is low and will be quite fast if the charging current is high. Hope this helps. |
Was discussing my solar power setup with a colleague in the office who is equally intrested in alternative energy sources, he informed me that that there is a bill already in the national assembly to mandate some incentives for people who have solar panels installed in their homes and those who will be willing to sell to the grid...Good news for all those interested in green energy sources. |
bodejohn, i hope you're still basking in the light of your first 24hrs uninterrupted power supply?
Very sure, I have only had power like this when I step out of the country. I had to even switch off tv today so I could catch some sleep in the afternoon and my fridge has worked more hours in two days than in the last 3 months.I am also thinking of the next phase which will be to increase my battery bank and then the solar panels. |
Oga George and all, welcome to the new year. I am celebrating here with the first 24hrs of uninterrupted power supply. May the new year bring sunshine to our lives and our panels. |
Thanks all for the messages... I was able to harvest 12Ah on day one, 33Ah on second day, 45Ah yesterday and I have already done 50Ah today. To enjoy the solar panels and the MPPT charger, you have to really load the inverter during the day or really drain the battery at night. I have been running since 7am till now, I can only imagine how much fuel I would have consumed. Meanwhile for anyone interested, my 2.7kVA generator is now up for sale... |
Marriage is not only about these rules...actually most married couples are aware of these stuff, the only issue is making use of them. The secret to a blissfull marriage is not only reading but doing... |
