PoliticsRe: Amnesty For Boko Haram Is Wickedness - Oritsejafor by bodejohn(m): 10:16am On Apr 07, 2013
We were told not long ago by the government that we were winning the war against these insurgents.
How come we want to throw in the towel in a game we are sure of winning.
All i want to say is that it is either we were not told the truth before or someone is trying to steal money again...it just doesn't add up...that's all.

There was once a terrible flood in a country far away...
A man who managed to get to the top of his roof sat and pray for several hours till he was swept away by the gushing torrents.
On reaching the pearly gates, he was furious with the holy one, why didn't you come down to help me, he asked the one seated on the thrown. I am surprised to see you here was the response of the holy one.
I sent you two boats and an helicopter to carry you to safety as soon as you closed your eyes to pray yet you refused to be rescued.

Pray till his kingdom come and remain lazy in your wayward ways...expect no miracle....dats all.

abunafiu: Thaks 4 d reply,
i wish i could afford one MPPT 60A. pls how much do u think i can get one in lagos. Whats d make of ur panels, i mean mono, poly or what......sharp, suntech or what... Thanks. Enjoy d rest of d weekend,
I got my panels here in Ibadan, it's difficult to carry they higher watt panels because the are bigger than what a saloon car can carry. The panels are poly crystalline and i think they are branded some thing like Emerald. My 30Amps MPPT charge controller is from China, about 50k with dhl shipping, I have no idea what it costs in Lagos. I am sure other members of the forum can help you out on the price.

abunafiu: @Bodej Honestly, am getting satisfaction from my set up. I use 40A PWM controller currently. i cooldnt afford an MPPT now, may be later, Thanks.
Ok, very good. Try and get a mppt charge controller and you will you come back here to give a testimony. I use 6 pieces of 120watt panels on 6 batteries and i get a full charge almost the same time you do with your setup.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bodejohn(m): 7:27am On Apr 06, 2013
abunafiu: @bodejohn, i corrently use 8 of such panels (120w), I also use four 155AH batteries. I comfortably use my fridge(330W) from 7am to 3pm(subject to sun brightness). My batt bank usually indicate batt full arround 2-3pm daily(depending on sun br). My controller usually read 24.7V every morning(6.30am).
so u see that i hardly drain my batt bank with my 120W LED 40in TV, 200W sound system and a fan(usually on btw 6pm and 11pm daily) but the fan runs till day brake. So i think the panels are quite efficient. I know all these because i was once a victim of fake 200w panel which could only charge a motor cycle 7AH 12v batt.
So give it a try but make sure ure buying from source.
i hope to post pics as soon as i get batteries for my camera.
I was not saying that your panels are fake. I also trust that you are satisfied with the performance of the panels. I was just making a general note of caution.

Do you use the mppt charger in your setup? You can compare the highest pull you get to the total installed capacity of the panels.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bodejohn(m): 6:52pm On Apr 05, 2013
A word of caution on these cheap panels.

I bought 4 pieces of 100watts panels in lagos sometimes in December 2012, i could barely receive 200watts from them during peak periods. These panels are now resting in peace in my store as i write.

While I am not saying the cheap panels are bad, but the 120watt i got from here in ibadan performs at about 85% efficiency but costs around 360 naira per watt.

I can't stop laughing...
I have not had power for 6 weeks (cumulatively) in 2013 alone and i am been informed of a 72 hrs cut.
Until the amount same energy been invested in generation of power is also applied to distribution and transmission we will only be moving round in circles.

PoliticsRe: Salisu Buhari Appointed Into UNN Governing Council by bodejohn(m): 9:24pm On Apr 04, 2013
I once read the story of a community.

The leaders of the community usually take critical decisions when they are completely drunk but they always also ensure that someone among them is not drunk took the minutes of their meeting.

They do not just end it there, they reconvene when they are completely sober and review their decisions, if it still made sense, it becomes binding. Otherwise they go through the process again.

Looks more like the decision making process in the Nigeria is much the same only that the only sober member in the meeting releases the conclusion before the elders have an opportunity to reconsider the decisions.

Or how can one explain this? Salisu. did not only forge an academic certificate, he also doctored his age. He wasn't more than 26 when he claimed to be above 30 and he rose to be number 4 man in Nigeria. Worse is that some folks here are saying it was a mistake he made.

GEJ will soon resurrect Anini and make his a minister because he would have shown enough remorse in the grave.

March was a very good month although the Sun's irradiance dropped deeply towards the end.
I had a total of 2336Ah as measured by my charge controller. An all time high harvest of 56.064kW hr. I am not resetting the charge controller but will like to relish these moments and talk of the thousands.

Happy new month folks.

Lot of things are very simple till we make them complicated.
Music and drama and the arts in general are just for entertainment until we decided to make it complicated by trying to teach people a lesson through it.
Enjoy the rythym of the song if you can otherwise turn a deaf ear, if you need morals...go to church or a mosque.

TotalGreen: hi,
"batteries still don't get beyond 49v at the end of the day." i am assumiing you are doing a 48v on the battries right?

since you have 12pcs of 280watt, and u are using @George_D type MPPT controller, you should have "3 modules in 4 strings" just like @bodejohn just rightly put it.

The morningstar MPPT 60 can handle 150vdc, with "3 modules in 4 strings" you voltage should be about 110vdc aprox which is less than 150vdc, good to go

like i always say, "i stand to be corrected", we still dey learn this solar thing.
The morning star MPPT charger might be able to handle the voltage but i for see that the current will be more than it can handle.
I think Oga George has 2Kw on the each of his 2 chargers.

kiretiv: hi guys am new into the solar stuff, just installed a couple but am not getting the max benefits. I got 12pcs of 280watt panels on a 60watt charge controller with 16pcs of 12v 150ah batteries but my batteries still don't get beyond 49v at the end of the day. I see in George D pix having 57v which is amazing. I want to know if my set up is having issues or another charge controller need to be added. fyi I use same charge controller as George D, and my arrays setup is 2 panels in series and 6 parallel. thanks
Waoh!!! you are one power holding company yourself, with a little more investment, you will be an oga at the top!!! smileysmileysmiley

But i think we will need more information to be able to help you.
I will assume that since your panels are connected in pairs you will be supplying around 60 to 65V to the charge controller.
I will also assume that you have 4 strings of batteries with each string having 4 batteries connected in series.

If the above is the case you are not maximizing your mppt charger this way. Your expensive mppt charge controller at best is just working as an ordinary PVM charger. This might be one reason you are not getting more than 49V from your bank. No matter how you connect the panels to your mppt charger, you should have around 100Amps from the panels during peak periods of the day, are you sure your charger controller can handle this current? Each of Oga George's controller can only handle 60amps.

I suggest you connect you solar panels in strings of 3 panels each, this will give your charge controller a 90V PV input voltgae (Please check that your charge controller can handle this large voltage, my charger will not take more than 70V) For example i am using a 60V PV input voltage for my mppt charger and my battery bank is 24V.

earthrealm: is it recommended to buy special cables to connect ur solar cells to the batteries...considering the distance?... i intend to install my solar panels but they are going 2 be about 35ft waya from my mppt/battery..can i just use normal ac single core cable, the separate red n black type...or do i need to buy a special cable?

Alain is the price of the solar panel below ok? 114k for 2units of 250w monocrystalline panels?
General rule for this type of installation is to pick at cable capable of handling times two of what you intend to start with. You might never be able to predict what you will want to add in the near future. For example I started out with a 400watt panel now in less than 3months I am at 720watts and I still have some little capacity remaining in my 6mm cables.

I picked a heat resistant cable for my installation considering that it will be inside the sun.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bodejohn(m): 8:01pm On Mar 19, 2013
TotalGreen: The cool part about mppt controllers is that u don't need really thick cables like the regular non mppt controllers, I stand to be corrected, but I always advice that a flex cable be used for ur DC connections, maybe in ur case 2-4 mm flex should sort u out.

For the. Pricing issue, I would like u to send a snap shot of the module spec, I am seeing really high wattage panels and low current being sold in nigeria.

Thanks
I sent you a mail....waiting for your response.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bodejohn(m): 7:24pm On Mar 16, 2013
@ Totalgreen, you are welcome on board.

I have since changed all my panels to 120watts and the results were very impressive. The 100watts panels are resting now till i can buy another charge controller and 2 more 100watt panels or maybe I OLX it.

My battery bank is 24v and I am not using a Sukam inverter. My panels are connected in 2 strings, each with 3 panels giving my MPPT charger an average of 60v.

Our "Oga at the top" (George D), it's been some time.

We shall be doing live match cast here every match day, and also expose any team that wants to behave fraudulent. Thank you
Watching the league live was one of the few opportunity I had to relax will studying at the polytechnic Ibadan. I am also committed to this, after watching this game live in the stadium, I made a silent promise to watch at the minimum 10 home games of shooting stars. We do not need to see the likes of Sunday Mba before we appreciate the stars in our league.
Next for me before the next home game is to grab shooting's home jersy.
