Good the team raised their game and won. For me, I am not happy the team won but I am elated that keshi has crossed the hurdle of the FA, so we will keep the coach and the team for another year or two and we will see the real progress of the team. Hello guys, I ended the month of January with 1,418Ah of free energy from the sun.
Assuming an average of 24V, that equals a total of 34,032Wh approximately 34KwH.
While this looks like much for a beginner, I am setting my sight to double this before the end of the year.

Only disappointing is that I only have to pay less than 500naira to PHCN for same amount of power.
PHCN charges 12.5naira for 1 KwH in my area, so 34 X 12.5 is just 425naira, ofcourse the story will be light years different if I had to run on generator.

Following the recent controversy surrounding a tweet by zeebook and retweeted by El Rufai, I decided to google who @zeebook is.
It will surprise many to know that @zeebook is a social critic who freely uses biblical tones for his poetry.
I found out he wrote the lootitudes, a bible like one chapter article, that we all laughed and liked on our Facebook walls both Christians and Muslims alike.
The lootitudes, which sounds like the beatitudes, was written at the time of the Farouk Otedola scandal. He is also an editor of a blog with a slogan, book or revolution.
While I have not at anytime met or seen @zeebook, I am more convinced that he had honest intentions within him as he tweeted the now controversial words. You will find more of @zeebook's passion in the link below.

Daily average variations of power flunctuate all over the world. Why it is an issue for Nigeria right now is because we do not have adequate power to supply the national need yet. The point is that the daily flunctuations are not really a big issue. What will be a big issue are long periods of drop in power. For example if the generation were to stay at say 2500 to 3000 MW over a 3 weeks period. Between now and when we fully attain stable power, there will be these regular flunctuations because a lot of work is going on. The whole of the east, for example, was thrown into complete darkness as they were moved to new trasmission lines. These are major infrastructural changes and should actually be celebrated, not ridiculed.

The combine output of both kainji and shiroro dams stand at 1300MW. And most times, they don't even deliver their full capacity. In other words, they mostly deliver somewhere between 800 to 1200 MW regularly. Most of the other power in the country right now comes from gas plants. Even if another Noahs rain fall and cover Nigeria, the power supplied by kaini and shiroro will not exceed 1300 MW which is their full install capacity.

So if there is a drop is power, you have to look at other reasons including transmission and supply of gas. In fact, gas supply is the biggest threat to the current improvement in power, not rain!

The most important thing in all of this is that the sold DISCOs and power plants are about to be handed to the bid winners. That is what people like us are interested in and waiting for ernestly. Hopefully, that should happen within the next few weeks. That is when the real journey begins. The days of Kainji and shiroro are long gone. Even ebonyi is about to launch a new power plant. Akwa ibom is set. Geometric is going live in march. Those are the important things, not childlike arguments about rainy and dry season.

It is also an added plus that there is a website where you can actually check the daily power output. It is a really big step for us Nigerians to have such a tool! A big kudos to the ministry there!

This is the type of intelligent, structured without insult reply that i wish to see daily on Nairaland, but you should not make this the only time you will be saying it.
Although I am not a fan of both ruling and opposition parties, there is a lot of things that Nigerians need to learn.

It takes time to build infrastructure, especially power. it is more than the wishes our leaders want us to believe.
The quick fix, short benefit we have seen in the power sector coupled with many failed deadlines have made many Nigerians to loose faith in the uninterrupted power supply story. I sincerely think it will not take less than 4 to 5 years of consistent and focused investment in the power sector before we can all see the benefits.
Our governments owe us the truth and we also need to be open to learn and see the realities of our circumstance.

I have said it before and will say again, religion is the biggest problem we have, the blame I put on both actors of the leading religions in Nigeria. Shouldn't people keep their beliefs to themselves and respect others for theirs too.
If a Christian didn't see anything bad in making the tweet, why must others condemn another who simply retweets.

In my own understanding of this policy, the CBN wants to increase the amount of information of each customer the the bank keeps, the popular KYC.
But to make these easy for the banks and their customers, these additional KYC information will only be required on accounts with big balances.

So if I only withdraw or will not withdraw more that 20,000 naira, the bank does not need to verify my address and other stuffs.

This is a welcome idea and does not necessary mean that there are new limits to what can be withdrawn or deposited.

How does charging you battery bank with 2 solar chargers compare with charging via the inverter when there is grid power on a sunny day?

I read in a piece that only the source with the higher power level gets to the battery while the lower is blocked.

Secondly, I noticed that your panels are arranged at the very top of the roof, any reasons for this? How often do you clean the panels?

We need to keep educating ourselves, power generation is only a lap in the marathon race of providing uninterrupted power supply to Nigerians. That an athlete is leading the first lap does not mean he is the winner.

I have said this before and I say it again, generation is not the only problem, there is also transmission and distribution. If he fed. govt. like they can generate 10000Mw, if the distribution and transmission systems are weak, we will not see any result. It's just like a range sport suv without tyres.

I think the govt should leave the propaganda off we can generate so much power and concentrate on building better transmission and distribution systems.

permie: I am a newbie from Kenya though i have been following the thread. I have a set up of 2 x120W solar panels, STECA PR3030 charger controller, two 12V 100Ah champion batteries, OPTI-UPS IS1100LT 1100VA/660W (24V)inverter. The batteries are connected in series, the problem is the state of charge does not pass beyond 65% even when the sun is hot from morning to evening and it drops significantly when you switch on the appliances. The total load of the house is 650W though i use 75W tv for 2 1/2hrs, 20W for 1hr, 14W for 1hr, 36W for 1hr but the system cannot run more than 3hrs and the load does not run simultenously. I also have 135W tv and cann't use it coz at times on switching on it switches off the inverter and the system running is reduced. What could be the problem and remedy to these?

@ Permie, it seems although not completely clear that you are off grid, that is, you only charge your batteries with the solar panels.
If this is the case, the timing that is bolded above does not add up for me.

I am attaching a simple excel sheet that will give you an idea of what you require in terms of battery bank and solar cells.

Your 3.5kVA sukam inverter operates on 24V or 48V? Will it at any point in the near future be up for sale?

Did you directly couple the outputs from the mppt controllers into the batteries? I am asking because i can see that the charge available from the mppt controllers are not equal.

Are you using any special connectors like the MC4 for the cables from the solar panels?

Was there any special recommendation for the fuses between the mppt controller and the solar panels? Why not a circuit breaker instead of the fuse?
